IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresfor those who have Interviews in Mumbai in Nov. 2008
My wife also got Packet 4 from VFS wihch had DS230 attached to be filled out and it asks for originals for all the other things.

And guess what it says courier fee of 365 where as their website says 394.

These guys are idiots as they have not updated their Packet 4 instructions as to if you submitted everything to NVC already no need to submit it again.

There is one good thing thought, on their instruction it says you may wish to submit all documents at your interview only but it is advisable to submit it to VFS for review and correctness.

I told my wife call VFS and find out more information but most probably we will just pay courier fee to avoid confusion and fill out a new DS230.

Anybody who had recent interview from Mumbai..what did you guys do?

Mystique,
My wife hasn't received anything from Mumbai consulate so far.

However, instruction packet 3 from Mumbai consulate is totally confusing and it seems that it's outdated. It's asking to submit DS 230 Part I, Birth Cert (Orginal and photocopy), Marriage Certificate (orginal and photocopy), Police Certificates....
We have already submitted these documents to NVC. I have received letter from NVC confirming the date of interview for my spouse and that letter also contains the checklist of documents that they have received.

To make matters worse, the Packet 3 instructions also asks beneficiary to pay $400 in Visa Fee. We have already paid this too....Oh and you also have to sign the Applicant's Statement on the last page of instructions....I have never seen this stuff.....

So What else is there left to send to Mumbai consulate via VFS???? Everything they ask for in packet 3 is already with them...I am totaly confused....

CS

I am totally confused too.....one of the letter has the IV fee, IV surcharge and stuff included as follows:

IV COURIER FEE

IV PROCESSING FEE

IV COMBINED FEE ($355 + $45)

IV ISSUANCE FEE [For applicants who have paid the current $260/-IV application fee via the NVC]

IV SURCHARGE (to be paid by IV and DV applicants) (to be paid by all applicants who have already paid $335 combined processing fee.)

SURCHARGE FOR DV VISA APPLICATION

DV COMBINED FEE ($375 + $400)

It lists prices in $ and Rs....but all I know is that I've paid IV fee for $400 so that counts for the IV COMBINED FEE...but what's all the other stuff? the IV ISSUANCE FEE says for all applicants who've paid the current $260 IV application fee??? and what's DV for?? This stuff is so confusing.

They do ask you all this but they also state that if you already paid your IV fee it ignore this. Also they list all the fees on 1 page..even if its not for immigrant visa. DV is for diversity visa and nothing to do with Normal Immigration fee.

All we have to pay is IV courier fee of 394 rs.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresValidity of Indian Police clearance certificate for us IR1visa
It's weird actually. The consulate website says PCC's are valid for 1 year but if you actually get the PCC from passport office, they tell you its only valid for 6 months.

Since its required to be submitted at NVC, ask them about validity...

It was just the certified orginal copy to NVC. The local police in his district do not want to give more than one out. They are really giving him a hard time. They are even giving him a hard time for sending it out of country to the NVC! This is at the police station, I don't know nothing about the commissioner's office. Oh Course, I am not there in India, just my husband.

I dont know where your beneficiary lives but in my case it's south bombay and the passport police certificate took 45 days... its ridiculous how the process takes so long.

Passport Police Cert Process in Mumbai: Passport Office --> CID (Commissioner office) --> Local Police Station --> CID Office --> Passport Office (they issue you a little document). Most time in our case took at local police station... it was ridiculous.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFiling Tax Return
This might not be the right forum to ask but

Can you apply for a Joint Tax return even if the SSN was not issued the same year you filing Joint return?

In my case her interview date is in end of November but she might come here middle of december so her SSN might come in January which puts into 2009.

Do I need to get an ITIN to file for her Tax return or will I be able to use her SSN issued in 2009 for 2008 tax return?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisa Approved !!!
Just wanted to share with everybody... We got the Visa Approved today.

Reached at Mumbai Consulate @ 6:45 am for an interview at 7:30...

took her inside around 7:10ish..
finger print around 7:30ish...

1st lady she just collected the 2nd PCC which we never submitted at NVC...gave originals back.
asked couple of questions..like who's the petitioner, how long you guys been married... and then gave originals back and told her to wait..

2 hrs of wait..

interview begins with Indian & American officer at same time..

How did you decide on your husband and not other guys..did you meet other guys before?.. (what a irrelevant question)
Show me the marriage pics...point out who's who...
Why only 5-6 pics... she's like I didnt know i was supposed to bring a 10lb album smile.gif
where honeymoon..any pics of that... no only in digi cam..never printed
Where does he work...
Made the DS230 sign.... (the one we submitted at VFS not the one we submitted at NVC)

Didnt even collect the XRAY report...

Your Visa is approved......

she asked for collecting the passport same day..but they refused saying some technical error we ahve and will be couriered to you in 2-3 days.

anyways, overall it was very easy process... took just 3 hrs...and she was out....

Thanks to my fellow VJ Members for helping me out in this dreaded Visa Process.......Good Luck to everybody!!!

I dont know I just got entered into NVC process. I got my IIN but all operators I talked to were not willing to give me IIN saying online payment system is not working, you have to wait till you get AOS feel bill in mail.

You should contact NVC operator and tell them what's going on. If their site is not working they should just put page "not to be used" or something.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS 230 Questions
I know I'm far off sending DS230 package yet but I've following questions based on what I read it seems.

NVC requires all the following (original documents or certified copies) to be sent with DS 230.

* Birth Certificate
* Court and Prison Records
* Deportation Documentation
* Marriage Certificate
* Marriage Termination Documentation
* Military Records
* Photocopy of Valid Passport Biographic Data Page
* Police Certificate(s)
* photos

my questions are:

1. Who sends this to NVC... does Beneficiary receive a letter for all these to be sent to NVC..or can I (Petitioner) gather these from the beneficiary and send it to NVC after having it signed by her? If beneficiary receives a letter, do I need to wait for her to receive or can it be sent before it?

2. website of NVC says original or certified copies. What's the best way to make a certified copy - can any lawyer do it? If originals are sent to NVC, how do they send it back..and how will the beneficiary have the originals at her interview?

DS 230 form:

I'd been trying to fill the DS230 form and it seems in so many fields u cannot complete the address or information u're trying to fill as the fields length is limited.

I've also used Acrobat professional to edit the form to adjust font size but it doesnt allow me as it's a secured and when I choose to unsecure to make changes it asks me for password.

Has anybody had issue with filling out an address or any other filed in the given space? If yes, were u able to modify the font on the PDF or how did u overcome the limitation.. I appreciate the help

DS 3032 form

Also the DS 3032 form choice of agent form..last name filed on I appoint and country field on I do not appoint has same name i.e. last name. so if u modify 1 both gets modified at same time. I only found 1 form online and it says on top right hand corner: EXPIRATION DATE: 12/31/2006. is there a newer form for choice of agent out there?

I had the same problem with the DS-230, I simply wrote in those fields with a black pen.

With the Ds 3032, why doesn't the applicant(not the petitioner), send an email like in the James Shortcut. I did and it is much faster. If you need more information, just ask.

Yeah I'm planning to use email for choice of agent but this is just for backup. It sucks DS-230 has limitations

One thing I heard is, if consulate holds her passport, visa is granted. If they return it, visa is not granted and need additional adminsitrative process.

Can she ask to the consulate officer about visa issue after the interview or will the officer let her know after the interview ???

Is there any other way to know that such as some colored slips (white, pink, blue etc.) ???

Well most of the time they grant you the visa same day but if not they'll say you'll hear from us. In my granny's case they Mumbai Embassy couriered after passport back with Visa packet after 5 days I think. 1 time it was couriered back to ask for some sponsorship information. Rarely they give it to you right away as either way they have to mail you a a visa packet which is not to be opened by beneficiary but only opened by visa officer at the POE.

Guys, I dont think this is a caching issue of removing temporary internet files or cookies.

VSC shows September 3, 2007 for some and July 30, 2007 for others.

I believe this is a load balancing issue. Let me explain what that means as I'm technical guy...

their webserver is probably load balanced to direct internet traffic to either server to balance the load. 1 of the server has July 30 dates and other has September 03, 2007 as their date.

I can certainly guarantee that is the case as I asked my friend it showed him setptember 03 and it showed me july 30 but when I refresh the page it goes to september 03.

so lets just hope september 03 is the correct date and not july 30...as if it's july 30...It TAKES THEM F***** 1 year to process an application?????

Also, does anybody knows how do they determine these processing dates as clearly july 30 or sept 03 applications have been approved post those dates...

He is a young male, we do not own property and we have middle class income and we still were kicking.gif approved.

So I just wanted to say that it can be done and everyone who wants to apply for one should give it their best shot. It is surely worth the try.

I received and sent DS-2032 on Nov. 2007 but I haven't IV Bill yet. So, I sent a letter to NVC to send it me.
To save time, I would like to prepare something for IV bill and DS-230.

1. how much the fee for IV bill? and, payable to Whom?(I would like to prepare money order beforehand)
2. what is required documentation for DS-230? I downloaded DS-230 in USCIS site and fill it in. What else document I should prepare?

Thank you in advance.

NVC will generate and then send out IV Fee Bill after it takes care of DS 3032. The IV Fee is $400.00 which can be paid with a money order or cashier check and is payable to Department of State. DS 230 part I should be signed by the visa applicant but part I must not be signed now (he/she will be asked to sign during the interview).

You meant part 2 should not be signed until the interview takes place- correct?
