I can send you a copy of the translation we got for our marriage certificate, it's pretty simple and the translator, no matter who it is just have to sign the translation saying that they are fluent in both languages.

As far as the affidavits, they also have to be translated. Rule of thumb is anything you send to the USCIS or the NVC that is not in English, will need to be translated.

I need to translate my Costa Rican certificate of marriage prior to submission of the I-130. I cannot find any requirements about the potential translator's credentials. As long as the translation is accurate, does it matter who has translated the document from Spanish to English? It would not be me or my wife translating, but a third party.

Also - does the same apply for the affidavits of a bonafide marriage? These will be from Spanish speaking wtinesses.

When submitting my I-130 packet, does the copy of my divorce decree need to be certified? I tried to search previous forum questions about this subject, but it is still unclear to me. If not, is there another time in the process when I might need a certified copy? I don't have a problem going to get one, just curious of it's a problem for the initial I-130 submission. Do I need originals with original signatures of form 325A for the petitioner and the beneficiary for both the I-130 and for the I-129F? Can I submit a copy for, say, the I-129F if the I-130 has an original signature? The K3 visa guide says originals.

Are you asking about CG's docs? If so, you can find his posts by searching under his screenname. He has a very good, detailed post about his I-130 packet and the documents he sent in. As for me, I am also sending in affadavits from friends asserting that my wife and I have a true and bonafide marriage (despite living in separate countries) as well as travel docs from pre-wedding visits.

I have noticed several people sent both their I-130 and I-129F off to the appropriate service center at the same time, presumably without waiting for the NoA1 to arrive. I, too, received approval of my I-130, but, so far, no word on the I-129F. I filed them together in September. The I-130 was approved at the VSC on 11/14.

I have been following the discussions on the I-130 & I-129F with respect to the K3 vs. CR-1/IR-1 paths. Specifically about the two petitions, in most cases, traveling together with most applicants ending up on the K3 route. I filed both petitions at the same time in early September. Currently, my I-130 is approved and my case is with the NVC. I am waiting on the I-864 and the visa bill from NVC. I called this morning and they are about to send those items out (or else they just did). So far, I have heard nothing from the USCIS about my I-129F except for an NOA1 I received in October.

Does it sound like I am on the CR-1/IR-1 path? Or, do I misunderstand the K3 process (which is not out of the question)? I know some people have had one petition held in order to "catch up" with the other, but I cannot tell if this is the case. It doesn't seem like it. Thank you for any feedback or advice.

We have a NVC case complete date of August 10th 2012 and waiting for interview date for Mumbai Consulate...This wait is freaking ridiculous.. i don't know why US Citizens have to wait for 9 freaking months to be united with their spouse while these stupid fools on H-1 visa can bring their spouse along with them.. this is RIDICULOUS... i know most of you can feel my anger at this sheer stupid immigration policy... :ot2:

But just called NVC again and the lady said that they scheduele interviews for next month in the 2nd week of previous month and to check back next week to see if we made it to September scheduele or not.

Can I chime in? All of us want our fiances and spouses here ASAP. Having said that--look over the posts and note the ones describing less than blissful conditions. There is a benefit to taking some time to get here. It is called getting to know your spouse and....getting to know yourself.
Do keep in mind that when someone thinks they have found a loophole and attempts to circumvent the process--it causes everyone in the qeue to get messed over, adding time to the process.
My OPINION is: K1 Personally I see no benefit being "married" to someone I can't visit. If over the time it takes to get to know them and apply, we discover that we don't belong together there are no legal aftershocks. This is even more important if children are involved. If you need him to work immediately when he gets here, I suggest saving up some money so he can get here, get acclimated and then go to work where he will be happy.
don't mean to rain on your parade but.......all of us have had this conversation with ourselves and others.
Our one year anniversary will be this month. It started with a three line email, matured into weekly phone calls, morphed into a ten day visit at the six month point and then we decided that we wanted to marry and for her to come here. K1 applied for at the 9 month point. Do I want her here now? Of course. But I don't want to rush it and I don't want to screw the process up for anyone else-so I am taking my lumps like everyone else. Sorry if this comes across as hard or severe but...take a giant step back and look at the whole picture.

If your timeline is up to date and you really haven't gotten an NOA2, you should try to contact VSC and see if they can give you any info. Seems to me that 4+ months at VCS is really long. If it goes too much longer, the US Citizen can contact a senator and request that they make an inquiry.


I have an appointment with the Congressman office and USCIS on 5/7/07 . So please wish me luck. Maybe this will help everything move swifter.

Those of us who frequent this forum are pursuing K-1 Fiancee visas. The two types of visas are different and I think also the processing times differ between the two at the USCIS level.
