I emailed the embassy yesterday (by the way, they are awesome answering emails) and ask them about the Interview date. When I woke up this morning, they said that it is scheduled November 21. Woohoo!!!! It has been a smooth journey (around 3 months) and thanks to everyone at VJ.

This is what I did. I emailed the embassy and ask them what is needed. I prepared my documents according to their email. I also print out their email as evidence in case they try to BS your fiancee to bring more evidence. At that time your fiancee can show them the email.

That's why I list Rio de Janeiro on my topic title and that's why I ask the embasy to get the straight answer from them. I am sure every embassy is different and that's why people should email the embassy directly and print out the email as evidence. If during the interview they try to say to my girl "oh, you don't have enough financial evidence", she can show them their email and say "nope, that's what you guys said to bring".

I am preparing documents for my fiancée's K1 interview and have several questions about I-134 financial evidence.

1. Last year's 1040 federal tax return.

I e-filed my tax through www.turboxtax.com and printed out the federal tax return from the website. Is it ok to show this printout during the interview?

YOU CAN PRESENT THE TRANSCRIPT FROM IRS

2. Employment Letter

NOT NECESSARY

My company's HR prepared the letter, digitally signed and emailed it to me. Does the embassy require the original letter or is the printout ok?

3. Bank statement

NOT NECESSARY

My saving account is on ING Internet bank and I also print out my saving account info via the website. Does the embassy require the original signed letter by someone from the bank or is the website printout ok?

NOT NECESSARY.

4. What other financial evidence may the embassy need if my salary alone is above the 125% poverty line?

IF YOUR SALARY IS ABOVE THE 125% OF THE POVERTY LINE YOU JUST HAVE TO PRESENT YOUR LAST INCOME TAX.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Time frame - From USCIS to NVC
I was approved December 07, but as of today, NVC never received my petition. NVC will tell you 15 working days from your Notice date before NVC will review your issue.

Before I checked my email today, I called Vermont Service Center - they told me they have 30 days, to get your approved application to the NVC

Then I check my email today, and NVC instructed me that my petition is in enroute to the NVC.



We received approval on December 15.. and on Dec 16 our case was being forwarded to State Department...

We called every day and NVC has not received case yet.. :unsure:

Has anybody case been sent from USCIS to State Department in or around Dec 15? Has NVC received it yet?

What is the time frame for NVC to receive our package?

Hopefully they receive it soon

My wife is from India and her birth was not registered as she was born in  a village and didn't have this facility of registering her birth back then. She has now got it registered (few days back). Will this birth certificate be acceptable by NVC or do I send any additional proof of birth (like affidavits from parents). I read on VJ that birth which are registered after one year of being born can be a cause for RFE. Anyone in this situation, please help.

Honestly I am still confused. The "appointment letter" is what exactly? I got a packet 3 with a bunch of forms in it. I also received a letter from NVC. I never received a packet 4. Also, the embassy only emailed me the date because I requested that they do so and so I just have an email that I can't print because they've written the text in color and my printer is only black ink. If it is something they send in a packet, how do I get it, what does it look like, what does it say exactly? Is it on their letterhead with the seal and all? I really don't know. Thank you everyone!

Polytechnic? Dont even bother tipping anyone. I graduated from a university in nigeria. Couldnt get it the transcript before i left. Spend alot of money to get it when i got it. Bottomline, i was being sent a fake transcript(Its Naija)
my husband graduated from a Polytechnic. He spent time calling the school and people he knew in the school..... Sent money to get it done.... Finally, the said they mailed it to WES...... WES has it but dont think we would convert it.



Personally to me, Its not worth it for Polytechnic. Thats just me ! Especially if he is looking into the medical field.

I'm a bit confused about the DS230 form. A few questions:

- Can you email Part 1 back before you get your NVC case #?

- What other information needs to be emailed along with it?

- and finally, when you mail the hard copy to the consulate, what goes in there?
I've been looking all over VisaJourney for a checklist, and haven't been successful in finding one on the Dept of State website either.

Any answers you have would be much appreciated.

generally takes 10 days for the email to get acknowledged. If you have signed DS3032 its quicker depending on how fast you use the mail service.

This would vary by country but I hope you're right about cutting NVC time to 4 or 5 weeks. Mailing time can become a big issue when the DS 3032 has to take the slow boat overseas so I would think certain pro-active steps need to be taken in order to keep the NVC time short.



yes I was refering to NVC time and in turn total time keeping in mind that Mumbai, India doesn't treat K3 and IR differently for scheduling interviews. So for this filer, it should really come to 4-5 week difference if the person is proactive in getting DS3032 in the system quickly, using the online payment system, and having all the document ready since Mumbai is now an appointment post.


So then it would have been more accurate to say that for an appointment post like Mumbai and a pro-active DS 3032 notification, the time difference can be as little as 4 or 5 weeks, than to say "is down to maybe 4 or 5 weeks".

I know you had no intention of misleading anyone but if one is not pro-active in providing context, they are often misconstrued to the ultimate severe heartache for he/she who misunderstood.

Thanks guys I understand the steps for being proactive i.e. not waiting for DS 2032 and emailing them choice of agent etc but usually isnt the fact that Immigrant route takes long time b/c of the bottleneck at NVC and that increases based on # of applications. I'm not sure but based on what I've seen it takes 4-5 months for your I130 to process at NVC - Is there any place other than this site whre real stats for applications are posted i.e. I130 processing time at NVC?

Looking at the timeliness it seems it takes about same time for both to be approved.

questions I have are:

1. Is K3 worth it? ($1010 is a lot for AOS mad.gif )

2. If she comes to this country on K3 visa, do I need to wait to get her AOS approved before I can apply for SSN?

3. Can I put her on my tax return if she doenst have an SSN and comes to this country on K3 (I.e. non immigrant visa)?

If yes, than I guess its worth it as she might be able to come here in 2008 and I can file her as dependent on TAX return.

when you file married filing joint you need to also apply for ITIN. for the ITIN you need to have a embassy notarized copy of your spouses passport...not just any notary will do (I did joint return this year, I know about this). now if you want to know about this silly "stimulus rebate" we are to get this year as american tax payers, if both parties do not have SSN's you will not get the rebate until your spouse receives SSN's and you eiter file amended return or file next year.

I'm in kind of a dilemma at this point.

I just recently sent my I-130 petition on April 19th and received NOA1 was April 29th 2008.

Currently I'm debating whether to go thru the hassle of K3 or not because it takes based on timeline just 2-3 months faster.

so my questions are:

1. How easy is to abandon your k3 process if you think its taking too long? If both I130 and K3 gets approved at same time, it means it got processed same time at USCIS correct ant not NVC? NVC will take additional 4-5 months for I130 where as K3 just stays at NVC for 2-3 weeks. I'm confused as so many ppl ask question that it got approved at same time what should I do now.. is that approval from NVC or USCIS?

2. Does she needs to be physically in U.S for me to apply as married in my 2008 TAX return (Note, I just sent my I130 on April 19th). If not, can I get ITIN for her without her physically being here? I heard some ppl saying just notarized copy of passport is enuf for ITIN but that way I can get that for anybody..whats the proof that she will be coming here.

3. If she needs to be physically here in order for me to apply for a joint return, what are my chances of getting her here on K3 in 2008.. ppl usually say 8 months..so I'm looking at december probably.
