IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCSC to TSC to NVC: the Saga continues

Unfortunately, every now and then, someone will never have the AVR to work properly. So, if you ever want to hear updates about your case, you're going to have to call an operator. No, it's not exactly "normal", but it does happen every so often. Did you speak with an operator about this?

Hey again,

Called again today and one operator told me that the I-864 has been processed and that there is no record of the DS-230. Called again and the operator told me that both have been scanned into the system as received and there are no other updates. At least they got the goods and thank goodness the I-864 is OK. Now just keeping fingers crossed there will be no problems with the DS-230!

What a difference a day makes

Yes, they told me that it takes 20 business days from receipt of the material to be entered into the system and then I should hear an accurate AVR response. I've been calling daily for updates and they tell me the same thing over and over again. I tracked my packages, and I know they arrived at the NVC, I just want to hear that they have been reviewed!

Hi all,

Quick question: I sent my I-864 and DS-230 on 3/23/11. To date, when I call the automated system it still says they have no receipt of my case. Is that normal?

Hi everyone,

Congrats to all approvals :)

I have a question to put out there. Is it too late to assign/add an attorney to the case (I'm still pending approval of my I-130). Should I wait until the NVC stage (assuming I get there one day).

Middle East and North AfricaIran K-1s -- would love to connect with you

Hi

I filed my petition in June 2012 using an attorney and paid him 800 for filing. Once I got the approval notice (NOA2) I followed up on my own because at that point I had already read so much on the matter that I knew more than my lawyer. Our interview was done 3 months ago and we are waiting for the Administrative Processing. I would recommend using an attorney to file the petition and then if you have the time and feel comfortable, do the second step yourself.  Good luck

Middle East and North AfricaRamadan internet finds thread
Assalamalaikum. I don't think I've ever posted much in the ME forum as my hubby is Pakistani! But I read your discussions often! :)

I enjoyed reading the materials posted here on Ramadan. Another important aspect as we all know is zakat. I don't know about you but I have struggled with how to pay zakat here and make sure a clean charity receives my money.

This year, GlobalGiving, an online portal for charity, has launched a Ramadan Giving initiative. This is a pretty new concept for a non-religious gorup to help Muslims in their charitable giving. It was undertaken in consultation with American Muslims and a site has been put up with these projects.

www.globalgiving.com/ramadan

You can donate to Sudan, Palestine, Jordan, Morocco, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Please do check it out and consider donating a few dollars and SPREAD the word!

QUOTE (tammy sue kay @ Jul 5 2008, 05:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Oh, I know the questions they asked him were just the requisite questions they can ask anyone, I just got a sarcastic laugh out of it because my husband didn't even know how to change the windshield wipers on the car, so making a bomb just seemed way out of the realm of his knowledge base. LOL
My worrying question isn't about the AOS, but about the EAD. I cannot imagine why it has taken so long, and tho I have made phone calls to the USCIS, the last they told me is that we need to wait 45 days more before we make any more inquiries as to if and when it will be granted. By that time it will have been almost 10 months with no work. Yet they don't want them to be a "public charge"?
I'm not complaining because I am supporting him, I knew that I would have to, and really, his needs are not that expensive. It's just so disheartening to know that he want's to work but because of no EAD, he can't. By the time he gets it, it will be near to fall and jobs won't be so easily found, not that they are in Michigan anyway. Supporting 5 people on less than 40 thousand a year is no easy thing to do, but by letting go of a lot of extras we have been doing okay, but an extra income would really be nice right about now!

sorry to hear about your situation--esp that you are still waiting for the hubby to work. I'd definitely contact the congressman or better yet the senator--AND try the ombudsman. It has been well over 90 days and your husband doesn't have the EAD yet so make that case with the ombudsman. Also, if you write the ombudsman, do call them say about 7-10 days after they get the papers. They are quite nice.

Good luck!

I am so so sorry to hear this story. It is infuriating. I swear the people they have at the airports are amongst the most uncivilized bunch of people i have ever come across. I had the same thing happen to my uncle in 2002 b/c of some confusion. I kept calling Dulles to ask about him and i was given NO information and I paged him and everything. Finally after several phone calls someone told me "they are sending him home" and it took me a while to understand these @#$# were sending him back (they tried to make him pay $$$$ for his own return ticket). He later told us that they were rude, humiliated him, treated him like a criminal , and told him "don't worry about a hotel, you can spend the night in jail." They also did not allow him to take his heart medication and said that "you don't have a heart problem, if you did, you'd be on the floor now"

keep us posted..and let us know we what we can do..

interesting...i think really the contract is attempting to rid those communities of practices that are terrible: abuse, financially manipulating the wife, laying claim to HER assets and income...

i think this is very cool...you know in parts of pakistan, the nikahnama/contract has the woman's right to divorce crossed out with magic marker...I made sure to check mine and made sure it was in English smile.gif

I don't think the concepts in themselves are new and revolutionary per se BUT I like how the contract is reiterating that marriage is a partnership with both parties having rights and responsibilities.

a step in the right direction indeed...

I read most of your posts about this issue and I believe most of the replies are really helpful. I believe you should put your marriage in the proper setting, an Algerian setting. Marriage in Algeria, as in most of the Muslim countries thankfully is not an individual personal matter. It's a family matter. Your fiancee's mother is not being a nut or a pain in the ... she's being a mother. she rather see her daughter married to a good person who shares the culture and the land (she wants her daughter to stay close to her) than married to a good person coming from "nowhere." Also marriage in Algeria brings not only two people together, but too families together, so they rather marry their daughter to someone whom they know the family than "a stranger".
So when you understand that all what the family wants is the best for their daughter, you will know from which angle approach them. Good luck.

P.S. Marriage is an important issue that needs time to get done.

Well it's not a swear word, and it's one I wouldn't admit I ever know, ... and personally I never admit I know what any of the bad words mean... I'm serious.. After 31 years with arabs I've learned it's much better if they don't know what you know... and especially if you happen to know bad words.. and more so if they are bad words directed at WOMEN...

I only know Malika... innocent.gif (angel)...

Before I knew what the word meant, I had only overheard it used in conversation, so one night I was at dinner with an Egyptian friend and his two Jordanian friends... they asked me what Arabic words I knew, and that was the first one that came to my head, so I said it. They started shooshing me, looking around us to see if anyone had heard, and blushed like crazy. My Egyptian friend was just cracking up, because I'm sure he knew where I had heard it tongue.gif

I asked Waleed what it meant and he was so disgusted and angry I learned it. He doesn't want me to know any bad words in Arabic much less say the English ones in this house.

Then Waleed seems to be a good person because that's how his word should make you feel: disgusted and angry.

husband: I have never met her so I don't know if I like her.

me: haven't you at least heard of her?

husband: yes. she is very young and so is the king. They both grew up wealthy so they have the whole world in front of them.

me: have you heard of the things she's done?

husband: you have to know this, she could do a mountain of things but she will never be able to feel what it is like to be the people below her. they are very high up and the people are very low down. how nice of her to have been born so very rich that she is able to do things.

dry.gif

me: do you think she's pretty?

husband: i don't want to talk about this anymore.

me: as you wish!

So apparently the husband is not too keen on royalty. Hates the Saudi royals with a passion because they live in such uber luxury while people are starving and apparently dislikes any other royalty just as much. I'm just glad he doesn't mince words. tongue.gif

Queen Rania should whisper to her king before going to bed to give more liberty, freedom, and a sense to Citizenship to his people. She talks like if the problem far away from her and she's trying to find a solution. The problem is right next to her. Arab rulers are the problem of the Arab world. If you like her dress, that's another subject.

Anyone heard of this? I hate to say it but I'm a little upset because summer is coming to an end and this so called belief that he has, means no more swimming for the kids before the pools close! He doesn't want me to go swimming but comes up with this too?

Yes. I've heard and read about your husband's "so called belief." Ramadan is not about giving up drink and food only, but also other things you are allowed in other times of the year. That, in addition to the risk of drinking water while swimming.

You know when I think of judgement day I don't automatically think of being judged on what I ate, especially if my intentions were good. I think of other more important things (imho anyways). I think, did I kill anyone? did I worship any other God but Allah? did I not fast during Ramadan? did I spend money on frivolous things instead of saving up for Hajj? did I not pray five times per day?

That kind of stuff is always first and foremost on my mind and when I think of what I did wrong, I ask myself what my intentions were and if they were good then I cut myself some slack. I do this because I can become my own worst enemy at times. If I spent my precious time thinking of the little minute details then I will become obsessed and I will eventually fail to be able to see the forest from the trees.

Some can't afford to buy halal or spend the gas to drive forty five minutes. In that case, in my own opinion, if it were me...why not eat vegetarian for a while? I know I'm only human but I can't fathom Allah sending someone into the fire because they chose to buy their kid a pair of shoes, etc. instead of buying halal meat.

Anyways this thread is for Ramadan 2009 and I hope everyone is doing well physically, mentally and spiritually.

I quite don't understand your post, or you don't understand the concept of "Halal meat.":

"Some can't afford to buy halal or spend the gas to drive forty five minutes. In that case, in my own opinion, if it were me...why not eat vegetarian for a while?" You seem to imply that eating meat is mandatory. Well, no. You can do without meat if you chose to.

" I know I'm only human but I can't fathom Allah sending someone into the fire because they chose to buy their kid a pair of shoes, etc. instead of buying halal meat. " I don't understand what you mean by this. wacko.gif Where did you get such an idea from?
