Yay OBX! You're moving right along!

Chibby, have you and your spouse ever done the Canada Day celebration @ the DC Embassy?

No, we haven't. I've only been to my own embassy once lol. Its like you have all these cultural events and sights but you never do it until somebody visits you lol.
Have you been?
Btw, I'm def thinking about doing early biometrics. My husband would have to take off work but I might just catch the bus down richmond hwy on my day off. My AOS biometrics were done in twenty min.

what about RFE?? in what part of the process they are sent? if there is one of course, which I hope I don't get

First you will get the NOA 1 meaning they received your petition to put it in a box and let it catch dust for the next few month. When it's your file's turn, the adjudicator looks at everything and IF (!) there is anything missing, a form filled out wrong, a signature missing, or idk insufficent proof of the ongoing relationship, etc, they will send you an RFE, requesting more evidence. They will exactly tell you what they need from you. Of course it's not mandatory to get a RFE, it really lies in the hands of the person looking over your stuff. So IF you get a RFE, you sent the requested papers back in a certain timeframe and most likely they continue to work on it. Shortly after that you should get your NOA 2, the approval notice.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsConfusion on Igor's list
QUOTE (PB&JAM @ Oct 24 2008, 12:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It is indeed. I was moving up and down for DAYS before I got my NOA 2. Igor's list helped me a lot but in the end I was approved ranking 141 on the VSC list. So you can't really rely on it, altho I read somewhere that your approval is near when you get under 100. But I agree that it is very important to update the timeslines, otherwise the whole system and list just doesn't make any sense.

wow, thats a relief to hear that u dont need to go all the way down to no. 1. I did notice a few ppl on the list are listed twice.

Yea I noticed that, too. I think either both partners have their own accounts and therefore have two timelines, or some people made a timeline before they registered with VJ, and when they finally signed up they didn't know that the (previous made) timelines can be linked to their newly made account. But there shouldn't be too many double posts. I'm more worried about people not updating their timeslines, I mean you come here to VJ to get help and support during your visa process, so why not give this little bit of information back? The stats could be more precise, ppl would feel better and have an actual image of where they stand. Just my 2 cents of course wacko.gif

Hello everybody...

I just wanted to let you know that I was in Frankfurt for the medical and the interview today. The medical was easy, just the regular check-up, x-ray, blood sample etc. I had all my vaccinations done before, just the HPV is insufficient due to time interval now. It was fairly easy. Then off to the embassy, the people there were very friendly and helpful and it was quite easy. I was asked a few questions by the consul in the end and then she said "We'll issue the visa as soon as the medical results get here."

Soo, here I am smile.gif

Cant wait to see you post that you have your NOA2
Just a bit of information for you, as of June the 1st for AOS you nees to have the TST scratch test, I know somone who had his medical after that date had the jabs but was not told he had to have the tst, so now he will have to have another medical in the States just so he can have the TST, so will have to pay for it all over again
Just thought I would pass this informaiton on to anyone having the medical, well this is what happened in the UK, I have my medical on the 19th so I will give them a call tomorrow to see if they are now doing it.

Hey, thanks for sharing this information.
What exactly is TST? helpsmilie.gif

Will they do that test with me anyways at the medical since I guess they should know that it is required?! Anyone else here who knows anything about it?
I already got so many shots lately that I should be immune against everything right now! star_smile.gif (didn't want all of them at once at the medical that's why I already did them)

@ Chibby: Und? HPV Impfung überlebt?! hehe

I'm so happy to hear your case wasn't lost or anything. Now that officer needs to hurry up good.gif
I'm sure you will hear something soon star_smile.gif Cari had her medical like 2 weeks ago and she didn't say anything about a TST test. I wonder how they would control it, from what I read you would have to come back after a few days to have the result read...

Daniel is having an infopass appointment next monday. Not sure if that helps, but we hope to get some more info (if we are stuck somewhere or already assigned for example).
I mean I don't need to be worried for our wedding as long as we have it until 200 days of waiting (which I think was a reasonable timeframe for USCIS to work on our petition).
But I'd rather not wait but get active until then. Yeah maybe we have NOA 2 at day 170 or 195; but what if not?! (Am I not really German?!...hahahaha)

How did you enter the US in the first place without a birth certificate? Use that in place of the birth certificate! I sent certified copies of my BC (done back in 1984 when my relatives filed petition for my family) and it was ok

I am in very similiar situation. We left Vietnam when I was only 6 months old. I have no birth certificate. What I plan to do is to submit the old document I have that verifies my age (notarized of course). For me that is the refugee forms and pictures that we have from our camp in the Philippines in 1985-87. I was born in '84. I hope this works. Please keep us updated on what you decide to do.

REGARDS HCMC FILING
I am in a process of applying for a marriage license in HCMC and here are the questions
1. the website on the vietnam embassy outdated, do you need to notary passport and authenticate by your state before sending to vietnam embassy?
2. mental health check no longer applicable because SO TU PHAP doesn't trust the STATES or BIO form didn't need also
3. the fee now $100 (site stated $50)

Here you go: http://viet.vietname...ai-Viet-nam.pdf

Follow those instructions, you will be fine.
1. You don’t need notarized your Passport
2. Mental health is always requiring unless VN Embassy changed, it did not require blood test anymore. When you see a Doctor, make sure present Mental health form to him, let him fill-out and he needs notarized his signature before hand back to you.
3. Fee: Due to the fees change, you have to call Vietnamese Embassy and ask for “Hop Phap Hoa Ho So Dang Ky Ket Hon”.

Remember every single form, it must notarized, otherwise, it will return back to you. When you’re done with those forms, take it to your local County Clerk, and ask for notarized. After you finish with your County Clerk, take another trip to your State Capital ask for Secretary’s State notarized. And then send them to Vietnamese Embassy for “Hop Phap Hoa”. The process is about 4 weeks unless you want expedite (extra money is required).

Haonie

I just did this is September 2008.

1. Officially, passports need to be notorized by the State Department since this is the only seal that the VN embassy can verify. Although, I was able to by-pass this since I paid $300 and had a service do all the paperwork for $300.

2. Mental Health is required. But for me, I paid a doctor to sign off on the off in the U.S. but when we went for our interview in HCMC it was rejected and we had to redo the mental health assesment in HCMC .

3. What fee are you talking about? This form should be submitted by your spouse in VN if I remember correctly. The only costs should be for notorizing by the VN embassy in the US. The paperworks should be performed here, stamped, and sent to VN for your spouse to submit on your behalf.

Bob, we aren't trying to nitpick. As you go through the fiance(e)/spouse process at the HCMC consulate you learn to think as a HCMC consular officer. They have seen so much fraud there that we all end up being held to a higher standard than many other couples from different countries. No reason to complain, just facts is facts.

Tradition matters a lot. The more you can show yourself being integrated into that tradition, the stronger your case will be.

You want to front load your petition (include more evidence and information) so that when it lands in HCMC the CO will have more to read when they do their prep work for the interview. Take some time and read back through this forum and see where folks have been successful and where they have been tripped up. Take all those experiences and apply it to your petition. The extra work will payoff with the visa and you together with Ngoc.

Keep the questions coming. You are part of a good group here on VJ

According to this Reuters video on Yahoo, the Citadel in Hue is flooded.

http://cosmos.bcst.y...4...476&lang=en

The Citadel is surrounded by a moat, and is adjacent to the Perfume River, so the river must be over it's banks. This is very bad news. Hue is on relatively flat ground, with most of the city at the same altitude as the river banks.

The attached AP photo shows people walking through a street in Hue on Tuesday. I imagine most of the city is probably like this, or at least was on Tuesday. Phuong's home is elevated by about 2 feet. With a little luck, the water wasn't high enough to flood her house. I haven't been able to get through to her this morning. I don't know if she's been able to charge her cell phone. I don't know if Hue has any electricity.

My friend Van talked to his brother in Thuan An village yesterday. Everyone is ok; his family, Phuong's family, Phong's family. Most of them went to Phong's parent's home, which has a steel reinforced concrete roof. Van's brother lost the roof on his home. Phuong and I were in his brother's home last month for his daughter's engagement ceremony. Van said the damage in Thuan An is severe.

All this talk and news of Hue and Danang makes me miss vietnam. crying.gif I'm glad the worst of it is over. Several regions hit by Ketsana and two earthquakes yesterday. unsure.gif Brings life back to perspective and all our 'troubles' with HCM and visa process seem so trivial... unsure.gif

Which bridge are you talking about in Da Nang? The new bridge or the rotating bridge?? When I went there to DaNang early September 2009, the first day we stepped foot on land in the AM it was already raining and never let up. That night, the streets were all flooded. Poor taxi guy's car died in the water and he had to push it...poor us, we had to walk about a mile back to our hotel because the streets were all flooded and no taxis would dare go through them!

Hi Linda-

tuyen son must be the new bridge since it is not the rotating bridge which is off bach dang. Tuyen Son bridge takes you directly to Son Tra road around where Futurama resort is. My first experience with the rainy season was last November for our wedding. It rained 19 of 21 days but cleared up beautifully on the day we scheduled for photos and two laters on the day of hte wedding devil.gif

I was hoping that maybe some of you could take a look at our timeline. I have read many samples and tried to utilize the advice from many. I know they say to keep it somewhat short but after three visits this year I find it hard to eliminate much. Maybe I am overwriting. I would greatly appreciate your opinions - dont be shy! Asia: East and PacificSending money
But one thing that the OP and others should also consider is that when you send money, you should keep in mind that $100 is ALOT of money in VN. People with a good job over there only make an approximate average annual salary of $2,000 USD--if even that! If your SO is asking you to send money, you should ask why--not in the questioning way, but rather for what. Sure you love them and everything and you want a better life for them, and it's nice to send them money for special occasions or specific purposes, i.e. English Classes, Specialized Employment School, Weddings/Funerals/B-Day, etc. but people in VN are used to the lifestyles they've grown accustomed to.

Hey guys,

Thu asked me to send her some money because she needs to buy new clothes. I have to admit, the clothes she has right now are starting to fade smile.gif
I read at at the K1 Forum about members sending money to their fiance'. Since I will be dealing with the HCMC consulate later down the road when I file, I was wondering if any members here that have sent money to their fiance' in VN. Is this a good idea or bad idea? Also if I do send money to her, should I provide evidence of this with my I-129F petion? I am a bit worried that it is going to look bad if I send money to her just so she can buy new clothes. Anybody dealing with VN have any experience with this? The Walmart Visa Green Dot Cards are basically pre-paid cards. I can add funds to the cards here, and then mail the card with her name printed on it, to her home in VN. She can use the card anywhere Visa is accepted and at ATM machines to withdraw cash.

Sorry for the double post. Please don't send money cards in the mail blink.gif it will either not make it, or if it was me I would say I never received it and keep asking for more cards devil.gif

I sent money to my Fiance when she was in Vietnam. I was paying for her english classes and internet. Also bought her a motorbike.

I went to a local VN market here in town to send the money. Much cheaper than Western Union. They gave me receipts everytime. They charge $3 for every $100 sent. I actually used the receipts as evidence for our ongoing relationship and her interview at the consulate.

Nthing says love like MONEY tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif LOL

I guess you haven't used Western Union in a while. Sending to locations in the US is very expensive, but it's very cheap to send money with Western Union to Vietnam. I pay $6 to send $200, and $8 to send $400. It's the same price to send the money online as it is in most Western Union agent locations. Once sent, the money can be picked up in any Western Union agent shop in the Vietnam within about 15 minutes.

I agree. I use moneygram (try any CVS). Its a flat rate $9.99 so sending $300 or more makes it compariable to other methods. All you do is walk in the the CVS and pick up the money gram phone. The operator asks you a couple of questions and writes a 10 word message an a confirmation code. You pay the CVS cashier and the money is avaiable in VN in about 10 minutes at numerous banks. crying.gif you almost wish it wasn't so easy crying.gif

Sorry OP for hi jacking the thread whistling.gif

one more thing to add- while the US has its own set of problems. There is not another county on earth that say it is better off. It truly is a land of opportunity- not to say that there is prejudice, racism, poverty and etc- but there is hope and opportunity. In this country, there is federal and stated subsidized education (not free devil.gif ) and more university and opportunities to obtain advanced education than any other country on earth. The result is that an average a person can be upwardly mobile in society and that hard work, persistence, and talent are worth a damn. innocent.gif

that really sad story, damn those communist they make the country poor. every one just want to eascape from the country.

OMG, vietnam have no future

VN did not do it. It was mrs Phan.
VN has a bright future because they are spending so much money to educate the children and improve technology. When china forcloses on the us VN will be in better shape finacially than the us will.

OMG, who teach you this info ?

every child go to school in VN have to pay fee even 1st grade, is this spend too much money for education ?
all technology you see now are foreign invest, the VC just do sheet.
you never know what is dictatorship. No country have a future with dictatorship.
sound like a communist to me.

I've thought this much of VN for most of my 25 years - not knowing anything of the country except experiences from elders and history books.

My perspective has changed in the last two years after having the opportunity to travel back 5 times. Without a doubt, the disparity between rich and poor, ethics, sanitation, and the way 'business' is done is appalling, but it is not VN I imagined and feared all these years. We do engineering work extensively in Vietnam and the Vietnamese government has earnestly sent research teams and leaders to learn from the U.S. in the fields of water treatment, environmetnal sustainabilty, landfilling, recycling, and waste water treatment. I grew up thinking that the VN was lost and a hopeless country and maybe it still is for a disproportionate of the population, but is also not the same VN that my parents risked everything to escape.
