K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApril 2010 K-1 VSC

Anything over a few days, and you probably have been flagged for additional processing at the NVS. I am in the same situation with them. It seems to be a more in-depth background check, but there is no way to know for sure. You have to call and talk to a real person to find out if your in the "additional processing" status, since their automated system does not report on 'K' visas. They won't tell you anything more though. After waiting for the NOA2, now we have to wait another 2-5 weeks for the NVS. It's really frustrating.

I was in the same boat and someone explain to me you get flagged for various things. So relax and just wait it out. It is a long process. I know it easier said then done. I will see if I can find that old post.

We just got the email, we have NOA2! So glad to have such a great place to share this news -- our friends and family will be overjoyed, but won't understand how it feels like everyone here! Good luck to everyone still waiting... it'll come.

Congrats!!!

It's hard to say. You should try calling them to find out; they seem to be very cordial and helpful.

I did call and they only can tell me that my case is receiving additional processing. That is it.

Does anyone know why the NVC would have my file for over 2 weeks? I see for most cases that the NVC only has the file for a couple of days. I have called a couple of times and they keep telling me my file is receiving some additional processing. What could that additional processing be? Does anyone know?

I have been doing alot of praying that I did all my paperwork properly since I did it all myself without a lawyer. The date on my NOA1 was 4/8/2010. I received my text message today and got online to check my email as well. WE ARE APPROVED!!!! 6/18/2010. I can't wait to receive the NOA2 in the mail!! I am praying for the rest of the April filers. God Bless.

Congrats!!!

Wow, very fast! Congrats!

My NOA1 date is 4/21 so this gives me some hope that I'll hear something about my NOA2 within the next week. I would love to receive the good news while I'm visiting my fiancée.

Well I have done some checking in some of the other forums and have discovered that some other people who have received their NOA2 either on that same date or a day or two after. So it is coming soon for you I think cause I hope a RFE would have been asked for by now.

:D :) :D :) I felt like I was obligated to sign up to #1 thank all of you for all of your helpful incite to the process and #2 to tell you that I just checked my status and as of June 16th my NOA2 was issued. I have been looking at this thread from the start and sometimes I feel like I was stealing information. With that said, my NOA1 was issued on April 22nd. So all of you who are still waiting please keep your head up. They are working on it. My wait time was less than 60 days. Now I have to look up some other posts about the next step. I was so worried about the NOA2 that I forgot about the the rest of the steps. Thank you so much all!!! Best of luck!!! :P :D :)

Have you called your congressional office?

Yup, called, filled out forms, mailed letters. I live Washington, DC, so I don't have a "real" congressional representative. But I've gone through Sen. Dianne Feinstein's office in CA where my parents live.

Like others on this thread, my fiancee and I are way past the 5 months mark: at 205 days today since we also filed with Vermont on January 17. Keep your spirits up!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary I-129F filers
Oh man. Well, that took a while.

I applied on January 17 and finally got a text message yesterday saying that our application had finally been approved on Monday, October 15. I need a drink.

We waited one day short of 9 months for a response. During that time, we never got an RFE, and never received any answer from anyone at USCIS as to why our application was delayed for so long. From what I gathered by speaking with my Congressman's staff, an immigration officer at the Vermont Service Center first got his/her hands on our application on October 3. I had filed a Service Request back on August 23.

Lesson to everyone else still waiting -- dig in for the long haul and use every means of communication possible. I contacted a Senator and a Congressman, called the phone line weekly, spoke with the tier 2 people repeatedly, filed a service request, emailed the VSC several times, emailed USCIS HQ several times, and was about to go in for an INFOPASS appointment on Thursday. I also filed a report with the USCIS Ombudsman. Who knows what it was that eventually caused them to pick up our file -- the horrible thing is that probably nothing I did made any difference, and I will almost certainly never know. Oh well, at least it's done.

I'm almost too exhausted to be excited about it. Almost ;-)

Now on to the NVC.....

Best of luck to everyone still waiting!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary I-129F filers

I don't believe I've posted to this thread before, but I filed an I-129F with Vermont on January 17 and my fiancee and I are still waiting for the NOA2. USCIS, who I call regularly, tells me they're still processing January 16, and that my case is thus still within "normal processing times". They've been processing January 16 for about a month now, from what I've been told by both tier 1 and tier 2 people on the phone. I've also contacted a senator in my home state (CA -- live in DC), but nothing has resulted from that yet. So that leaves us .... waiting. Still shows "Initial Review" when I check the website. We were touched on 2/08/2012. No RFE. This is a complete and utter debacle.

I would just like to add that this website and its members have been phenomenal in providing support and information on the K-1 process. Many thanks to all of you! We've been gathering packet 3 information and my fiancee has scoped out the Seoul embassy for wait times, etc. So I think we are well prepared for the next stage. Now if we could only get there!

I think there is another January filer as well who came to this thread recently that was still waiting. Not sure if that is still the case. Can't remember the name, but starts with a K.

I feel real bad for Texas22. I was glad she was able to come to Texas, but someone's not doing their job at USCIS. She responded to the RFE, they could process her file now for goodness sake. :protest:

Aw mrs dog, you flatter me!! I just wish I had her hair...and her money...and her shoes ;)

2 spontaneous combustions really is quite restrained for me ;)

Well last night, over a glass of cava (and following 2 mojitos for Dutch courage!) and whilst watching the most boring football match known to man (we can only hope England vs USA is more exciting) - I booked my flight!! :D October 21st is the day, gonna POE in Chicago then i'm connecting from there to Orlando.

It's on, and I'm SO excited!!! :D

Hi kids!! ;)

I'm on the train down to London from sunny Leeds right now...train only 40 mins late, grr, but let's hope that's the only delay in the next 24 hours eh? ;)

Tonight I'm meeting up with my not-so-little brother for a late dinner and soothing beer, then off to the hostel. I'm simultaneously ridiculously overexcited and absolutely s******g myself...I'm a lot more relaxed about the interview itself than last night (thanks for the pep talk mrs dog and naddy ;)) but I think the life-changing nature of tomorrows decision is overwhelming me slightly.

Can't wait to get it over with. I'll let you know the score tomorrow!! Big love!! X

Well......a bit of bad news....sigh :(
Joseph had his interview, all went well except my divorce decree was apparently not a "certified copy", although that is what I requested. So we are approved, pending receipt of the certified copy which I have on its way to me now. I will overnight it to the embassy when it arrives. So overall, its good but more delays......hate delays!!

hang on...YOUR divorce certificate?

I only have the copy of jason's certificate that's in the i129-f...oh boy. Is that gonna be a problem?

I thought the interview was all about me...they've done the bit that's all about him, havent they? *panic*

Good luck to you today! It will go swimmingly, I'm sure, and we'll have some good news from you soon!

Good luck to our dear Jess for tomorrow, as well! Don't be nervous - you'll knock 'em dead!

@Naddy - Ice cream sammies are the way to go. But when you're ready to dive in to the AoS, don't forget about our Nov. AoS thread that will hopefully give you some answers. Also, of course, don't hesitate to ask anything. But you just got married, and you deserve several days off of hanging out and enjoying married life!

Awwww thanks :) I'm actually not interviewing til Thursday but going down to London town tomorrow night. Packing is the order of the evening tonight - first thing that's going in the suitcase is the visa file!!!

Feeling less nervous today, just can't wait for it to be over :) (and I'm actually quite happy about having a day off work, I'm totally frazzled!!)

I am currently 80% excited about interview and 20% nervous. I suspect that may become 100% nervous by Thursday, but the thought of Phase 1 of this process being over is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo exciting!!! I can't wait to spend hours in that ridiculously hot room in the Embassy for the third time...esp since this time I'll be one of those poor b******s with an I number that I always felt sorry for when I was there with my N numbers before ;)

BTW [everyone]: Is there a 'sticky' list of things that need to be done, people who need to be informed (of whatever... e.g. banks, student loans, 'tax man',...), etc, etc on here?

I haven't seen one, but there should be one, and I'm thinking of starting one for the Brits. I did, however, find a very useful emigration checklist when I was looking at foreign exchange brokers for transferring the wedding fund:

http://www.moneycorp...list_4pp_A5.pdf

Things I've thought of so far:
  • Student Loan (boooo) - they have a form you fill out once a year and they calculate your repayments based on income. Bad news - threshold is lower in the US. Good news - if they do it once a year my income will be zero so I'll have a year's repayment freeze :D
  • Council Tax
  • Inland Revenue - I think it's a P85, and apparently you can get an income tax refund (hooray!)
  • Banks
  • Royal Mail (if you're getting mail forwarding)
  • Utilities companies - phone, gas, electric, water, etc.
  • Landlord!
  • Doctor/NHS - get a handover file (as a medical war zone I am reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly going to miss the NHS...)
  • Work (obviously!)

Feel free to add!! I know some of these are UK-specific but a lot of them are global...

BTW - and this IS UK specific, lol - did any of you Brits store your stuff at Goulds while you were in the Embassy?

My hostel has luggage storage but I want to take my phone with me 1) for Google Maps and 2) so I can call everyone I know the SECOND I get done :)

Actually... Not really. In fact i guess i couldn't really care what it costs (just as long as i have the money for it ;)), just as long as i get there.

I agree actually. I was REALLY mad at first, but then realised we've gotten lucky on the financial front in other areas, and that ultimately once I get the big YES it won't matter :)

One week to go til V-day for me.....I keep checking and rechecking my Monica-from-Friends style, excessively organised folder just in case I've forgotten something!!

They are going to leave for India on the 20th,but there are a lot of layovers and all.I will be getting to see them on the 22nd afternoon.I saw John last on the 22nd of Aug,so it will be exactly 10 months..wow!
We will have an Indian celebration kinda thing, for my side of the family,I will post some pictures of it. :star:

I hope days speed by,or atleast seem to!

10 months?! Lady you have amazing strength....there am I thinking six months is bad :( Me and J are trying to figure out if we can get him here before the big move, but the flight prices SUCK right now...you know, we chose November are our wedding date because last year flight prices (for our guests) were around the £320 mark direct...now I can't find anything for less than £500. Now a lot of my friends are a lot less likely to come, and can't blame them :(

But back to you my dear....VERY happy for you finally getting to see your man :) When's the big move?!

Just been catching up with everyone's stories......I'm so excited for everyone!!! :D HandA, Mrs. Dog, Naddyyyyyyyyyy all so close to the happily ever after!!

I realised today that the interview is 2 weeks tomorrow....argh. Time to do some serious photocopying and photo printing!! After yesterday's spontaneous combustion I am feeling a bit better. After all, my credit card company made a 'mystery credit' to my account which effectively paid for my medical and my wedding shoes. (and I checked with my flatmate, who works for them: I am under no obligation to inform them  ) So I really can't complain :)

I'm booked into a youth hostel that's a 20 minute walk from the Embassy - last of the big spenders ;) But they have a luggage storage facility so I have the option of leaving my stuff there or at Gould's. Then my best friend is going to take the afternoon off after my interview and she's going to take me to the pub for a very large gin!!

Lastly - I have been sorely remiss with the graduation board :( stupid work making me do stuff for a living!! I am waaaaaaaaay behind, but if you guys could possibly update me I'll happily update it............

Hey guys, know I haven't checked in for a while, but would like to share my little mental note to the London embassy:

"Dear American Embassy. Thank you for tripling the production costs for my visa. I mean, I really didn't think $131 was enough to pay to make a bit of paper with some sticky stuff on the back. $350 seems far more reasonable. And to be honest I thought £800 was really a bit cheap for you to deal with a bit of paperwork. £1000 sounds about right. And hey, here's an idea, how about you charge me another £1500 to stay in the country once I get married? Oh, wait, you've already thought of one.

Yours in bankruptcy, Miss Jess."

(if you didn't realise, got my letter today saying they've put the MRV up. :'()

wooooo, my Mrs. D is back :D . I missed you  . I'm glad that your medical went good :) . Good luck on your upcoming interview. I will be thinking about you :) . Come back with a bigger approve then mine lol.

Heisable, I posted my review here : http://www.visajourn...&cty=&dfilter=5
It was smooth, she asked additional questions about my revenues cos I was unemployed. I forgot to add more plain questions she asked, but it's stupid, we can't edit the reviews lol.

Crissie, I agree with you, it's stupid how each embassy is different from another. The interview process is fast in red flagged countries, and so slow in normal countries . But we are all getting to what we are impatiently waiting for, being with our hubbies

Miss Jess, can you please update our graduation list when you are bored and donno what to do lol? I'm starting to loose track on my VJ family, don't wanna miss anyone :(

HandA, huge good luck for your interview on monday. *crossing my fingers and toes for a smooth easy interview*

Hallelujah! Super sweet! You can start eating and sleeping again!

And, only £6? Some poor person got a £45 bill cos they called on their cell phone! They must have had a special offer or discount sale on their extortion line they day you called! You got a bargain!

Well it hasn't shown up on my bill yet...but I called at 8.01am on Tuesday, pressed 3 to get an operator, got straight through to a person. They only put me on hold for a minute at most so it was done within 5 or 6 minutes. I was desperate to get off the phone as soon as I'd got the code!

I sympathise on the mobile front though. When my flight to see the boy got cancelled in January, I must have called British Airways at least 10 times over 2 days - from my mobile, given I was sat in an airport lounge for most of that time! It was an 0800 number but O2 charge premium rate to freephone numbers (something I think is an outrage, by the way), so when my phone bill came it had £36 of calls to a number that's supposed to be free

I didn't unfortunately - stupidly it's the one thing I didn't keep a copy of - but I know exactly what I wrote on it and what dates I wrote and even what colour pen I used, so easy to replicate.

UPDATE...UPDATE...UPDATE...

I got an email back from the Embassy. Unlike I was told on the phone, they hadn't lost my checklist (I KNEW I'd sent it!!), but apparently were holding back on scheduling an interview until nearer my travel date (apparently I'd just put October 2010...clearly my memory isn't all that  although I knew I'd been debating whether to put October or leave it blank).

Anyway they have now forwarded my 'new travel dates' to the Embassy and say I should receive my interview date in 3-4 weeks.

So - a few things I'd like to note about this experience:

1. Can't believe how fast I got an email back from the Embassy....6 hours. Is that a record?
2. It appears the Embassy were trying to do something nice for me by holding back the date - but why not tell me that's what you're doing? Would save me freaking out. And anyway - regardless of when I'm travelling I just want this whole process over with. I'm knackered. Plus I want to avoid that $350 fee ;)
3. It's always good to know that when you're calling a premium rate number you're going to get totally incorrect information :bonk:

Anyway - it's fixed. I'm happier now :)

Some happy new to report...visa approved!! David said everything went very smoothly this morning, everyone he dealt with was really nice and he was in and out of the embassy in about an hour. We're both so relieved and happy to have this part of the process over. He probably won't move over till mid-June but it's nice to feel that there's nothing stopping him from coming over as soon as next week if we want!

We will write up a review in our timeline later today or tomorrow for those who are interested in the details.

Best of luck to all of you getting ready for your own interviews!

For this I would like to say...yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Will update our graduate list once I've trawled through all my post-holiday emails ;)

I hope you kept a copy of the checklist Jess, scan it and mail it back, to make sure they won't "misplace" it again.

GOD, this is frustrating. We have no time to rest during this process >.<

I didn't unfortunately - stupidly it's the one thing I didn't keep a copy of - but I know exactly what I wrote on it and what dates I wrote and even what colour pen I used, so easy to replicate.

I've emailed to ask if I can submit electronically. Adviser on the phone said she'd put a note on my file saying that I would email about it.

The small silver lining is that I was only on the phone for 5 minutes, so it 'only' cost me 6 quid to establish the Embassy's total incompetency :bonk:

Awwww that is fabulous Meg, many congratulations :) so glad to see someone reach the end game for K1 at least!!!

Here's an update from my side. I am almost at spontaneous combustion point again.....

Got back from stateside yesterday and I rang the Embassy this morning at 8am on the dot. I was told that I hadn't been scheduled an interview date because I hadn't sent in my document checklist.

There is no way on this earth that I didn't send that checklist. Which means they've lost it.

I've emailed them and insisted I sent it in with the rest of my paperwork and asked them to advise a way forward (and mentioned that I now have 'travel dates for July' too). If they put me back at the bottom of the pile I'm going to be absolutely furious because this is not my fault and I do not want up to a 2 month delay added because I go to the bottom of the pile cos the Embassy are incompetent.

Way to kill my post-holiday mood in about 5 seconds flat :(

So glad you made it. I've got my interview date 19th May. We've established that London does seem to allocate interviews depending on what travel dates you put on your packet 3 forms. I'd requested any interview date in May cos I need to travel in June (as I've sold my house and can't be having dogs in a homeless situation). Others who have got their interviews on the UK thread are saying the same, so whatever date you put on your checklist, they are going by that.

Happy househunting and safe journey back to the UK. Your last one.

Argh......I put no travel date and the wedding date as November *wail*. I could be waiting forever, lol!!

I rang DOS again today to see if there had been any movement...this time the lady said my P3 had been logged April 13th but that I still wasn't showing as qualified for interview...she said maybe I had forgotten something which worries me greatly. Lady I spoke to Monday just said they hadn't had a chance to give me an interview date.

Unfortunately I think the time has come to call the extortion line...6 weeks seems like an awful long time to wait for a date judging by other people's experiences. Gonna bite the bullet and bankrupt myself Tuesday!!

PS JL_n_JL - congratulations :)

J x

Hi guys!!! Just wanted to drop in and say hello :) Can't stop long but a couple pf things...

1. If you hadn't noticed by my absence - I DID make it stateside :D:D only after 10 hours sat in Manchester airport freaking out whilst they did so many checks on the plane they took the bloody engines apart!!
2. For the first time I told the Immigration Officer I was visiting my fiance - I got fewer questions than ever before. Definitely a good move.
3. My Packet 3 has been logged at the Embassy but no interview date yet.......anyone got better news??

Anyway just wanted to say hi - I'm off to look at apartments with my mother-in-law!! Yikes!!

Hi folks, quick update...

Yesterday afternoon it really looked like I had a chance but I think now there is no hope, although I still haven't heard officially. Virgin are making an announcement about their schedule tomorrow at 10.30 tonight - in theory I could still fly but I reckon there is no chance. Virgin's customer service so far has been somewhat lacking they haven't exactly kept me updated.

Anyway as soon as I hear I'll be on the phone to rebook - if I can get out before Saturday then I'm going otherwise I'll have to wait another month. (and of course you know my interview date will be right in the middle of that!!)

Feel like just sitting and home and crying - I still can't believe this is happening yet again - but still gotta work, so just have to hold myself together. Thanks for all your good wishes :)

...and my medical is a week on Thursday. :help:

Miss Jess, there's always Southampton to New york and 'road trip'. ;) (I'd do it. :) )

Right now if you gave me a snorkel and mask I'd bloody swim there.

Well, to me it looks inevitable now but Virgin still haven't formally cancelled my flight so there's nothing I can do. I haven't slept properly since Thursday and my appetite has deserted me (that's how you know it's serious!!).

The horrible thing is that one of my American friends was due to fly back with me from the US on May 2nd - and unless there's still an ash problem then it'll cost her a fortune to rebook - so it's not even like I can postpone until next week cos otherwise I'll be in the US and she'll be here by herself. So if I can't get a flight this week the earliest I'll be able to go is a month from now, and as much as I've been trying to brace myself I'm finding it very hard to prepare myself psychologically for that kind of disappointment.

Aside from anything else I'm so gutted at the prospect of not getting a break from work I'm almost as upset about that as I am about not seeing the boy!! I'm totally burnt out.

I know it could be so much worse - at least it's not the wedding - but I've been on the receiving end of so many cancellations and delays and disappointments in the past 8 months that it's very hard to take yet another travel disaster.
