No, you can book your medical as soon as you know your LND number.

I have a couple of questions about this actually - one of which I've asked before but as you folks are recent grads of the embassy you may have a clear answer ;)

So with the medical - guesstimate of what the wait for an appointment is at the moment? Just trying to figure out if I should just book it (and try and align it with a work trip to London so I don't have to pay for the train ;)) or wait a bit.

Also, I have a problematic vaccination history. I had an allergic reaction to the Measles vaccine when I was a kiddie and so pretty much haven't had any vaccinations since (Mumps and Rubella being notable omissions). Will a letter from my doctor advising I shouldn't have any vaccines grown on eggs for medical reasons suffice?

From the way I understand the vaccine chart I'm only supposed to have Tetanus, MMR and Varicella anyway for my age group - I'm just worrying about it.

But presumably not putting a date is fine? After all, they do say you shouldn't make any concrete plans until the visa is issued (even if this is advice we have ignored :))

I'm not trying to get ahead of anyone - I'll happily wait in the line once my P3 is returned - but conversely I don't want to be bumped to September because I put a specific date and then find there's something wrong and be in a major flap to fix it cos we're running out of time.

Definitely agree with Julez...

For medical exam date, you can only book them a month or two in advance, so when we sent our p3 docs off, he put down "January 2010" since he knew he would have it sometime then. Another word of advice is to not put your POE too far in the future, otherwise you might have a date in the summer like one of our past DCF'ers! David is doing some trips in April/May around the UK (doing the West Highland Way) and so we requested an interview from mid-Feb to mid-March in a written request.

11 more hours! Sorry everyone :) Dentist cancelled my appointment, so I went shopping...bad for the wallet! But it was wedding invitation stuff, so fairly necessary ;)

so is it ok to put an earlier poe/wedding date even if you *know* you're doing it later? Like we are getting married 27/11 and planning POE for last week of October but I'd quite like to get everything done and dusted by June...but equally is it bad to tell porky pies?

PS...good luck tomorrow :)

Woohoo!!! Called the NVC - our case is on its way to London :)

Next question - how do I find out if the Embassy has got it? I'm 99% sure you're going to say extortion line....but worth an ask ;)

That's awful! Feel for you. Talk about having your nerves shredded. So, what if you don't live in London and had booked non refundable flights/train tickets, hotels?

Also, may I ask anyone on this thread, how do you find out when the embassy has received your case from NVC - do you call DOS? And, I what is the likely wait for packet 3? And, thirdly, how do you find out when they have logged receipt of packet 3 when you send it back to them?

muchos gracias for anyone's time. I've read so much on VJ, have now got confused over how to track it all. Whatever this process may or may not be, it certainly could never be called "user friendly"!

a friend of mine (not on VJ) has told me to expect a 3 week wait from NOA2 to getting P3. Obviously just an estimate but here's hoping :)

sundrop - can you add me to the waiting interview list :)

Hi guys

Just got our NOA2 a couple days ago so thought I'd hop on over to this thread to see how things are going at the business end of the process ;)

Bit worried about that lovely backlog the embassy have got going on - but after 101 days of sleepless nights over USCIS it would have been too good to be true to have nothing to worry about!!

Best of luck to everyone going for interviews :)

United KingdomTransferring money from UK to US

Hi guys,

We want to transfer some money from our Barclays bank account to the Bank of America account.

Can you recommend the most cheapest and easiest way?

Depends how much you're looking to transfer. Up to about £5000 your best bet is probably someone like XE Trade. Beyond that, HiFX, Moneycorp, Currencies Direct or Foreign Currency Direct are all good bets. I went with Foreign Currency Direct cos I got really personal service and they offered me the best rate. You can set up accounts with all of those companies for free.

Just using Barclays is highly unlikely to be the most cost-efficient way as most UK banks charge shocking fees and have even more shocking exchange rates, but it is worth asking.

Money Saving Expert (my financial bible in the UK...really need to find a US equivalent!!!) has a reallly good guide - http://www.moneysavi...rrency-exchange

Hope this helps :)

United KingdomHow much to save for big move?
There is no set amount you 'should' be saving. It depends entirely on the salaries you and your fiancee have now, where you will be living in the US, whether or not you will have to pay rent, etc. But I would advise you to save as much as YOU can. What another person saves may not be even remotely feasible for you.

The saving onus was largely on me as in the UK I was in a relatively well paid job whilst my now-husband works for a company that definitely doesn't have good pay as one of its selling points Posted Image FWIW, here's what I did. At the beginning of every month when I got paid, I put 20% of my salary in my savings account. At the end of the month, whatever I had left over that I hadn't spent, also went in that savings account. I'm a tight-fisted Yorkshirewoman, so this happened quite frequently ;)

Essentially me and my fiance had an agreement that we would save as much as possible but that we both also still had to have lives and money for ourselves (going out occasionally, seeing friends, etc) - otherwise we would just end up resenting each other. However, I was saving for 2 years before I finally quit my job and moved over here. If you already have your NOA2, you're probably much closer to the move than I was when I started saving, so you may feel you want to really scrimp and scrape to maximise your funds.

Remember, at the very least you will need money to cover:

* Wedding-related expenses (marriage license at the very least)
* Application fee for AOS ($1070)
* Unemployment Survival (money to live on while you're awaiting your EAD - expect 3 months and then hope for the best)

Plus a little extra to cover unexpected expenses, and yes, they will happen - my laptop needed $300 of repairs within 2 weeks of me getting here and then don't even get me started on the work I had to have done on the car I bought...

Try not to worry too much, though. Many, many people are in this situation every year and most find a way through :)

United KingdomSix Nations

So the Six nations kicks off in a few hours, and this event usually signifies the highlight of those dark winter months. WE have had a terrible turn up the last few years so to all you welsh, Scottish and Irish good luck and here's hoping for a much better tournament this year. With England as the winners obviously

For anyone using Expat shield, which isn't working anymore i have a Proxy address that will let you watch BBC Iplayer and hopefully that means also watching the rugby live.

Please Pm me if you want it.

I don't want to post it here so everyone has access as this will cause the connection to become super slow.

Good luck all

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!

BBC America are also showing some matches if you have it on cable. Thank god for BBCA, and yay England!!! As an unemployed lady of leisure might actually get round to watching it this year Posted Image

Re: Expat Shield there was a message on Facebook this week saying one of their servers is down and that they're fixing it. Should be done this week...fingers crossed, I only just found it!!

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusNOA2 Issued

Progress Update:

Although I have not received a letter yet the USCIS website says our petition was approved and notes post decision activity. This is a huge step in the process and now  my thoughts switch to Elena's interview and steps and beyond.

Congratulations!! It'll take a few days to get the actual letter... our case status changed on tuesday to reflect the NOA2 but the hard copy has still not arrived.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaJamaican Dual Citizenship?
I have always been somewhat of a survivalist: no, I am not a far-right wing nut or a far-left wing nut, I just try to be prepared in the worst of circumstances. I've read in multiple pieces of survivalist literature that it is often a good idea for citizens of a "first world" country to have citizenship of a smaller country, just in case things totally hit the fan and cause everyone to try to flee the United States or Europe if some big crisis were to take place. Yeah, this sounds crazy, and there is a chance nothing like this will ever happen, but it isn't the worst idea just to have all your bases covered, is it?

I am a USC married to a Jamaican citizen who is a U.S. Permanent Resident. Do any of the yardies here know how difficult it would be for me to obtain dual Jamaican citizenship?

Wah Gwaan fellow Yardies? Ok, I sent an email to Kingston Embassy last week with attached (scanned) DS-230 and I also mailed them the hard copy. I used Jawi's awesome cover letter and everything! I was hoping to get an interview date emailed back to me so we can set up a medical appointment and get this thing rolling.. BUT... this is what they wrote back...

Good Day

As soon as an interview date and time has been scheduled Mr. Francis will be notified.

Regards,

This email is UNCLASSIFIED.

Has anyone thought of including the ds-230 in the body of the email instead of an attachment? Microsoft outlook is good with that.

What the hell is that??? <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZUfox000%2526i%253D4%252F4%255F14%255F6%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_14_6.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D4%252F4_14_6%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a>

I would wait for the embassy to received the mailed hard copy. If you included your email address in the email they should email you the interview notice letter. I did the same thing you did. I emailed them the ds-230 they emailed me back and said that they do not open attachments. But I also mailed hard copy. When I got confirmation that they had received it, I received an email the very next day with the interview letter (packet 4) attached.

I am a VJ newbie. I was in Jamaica in September and my fiance and I saw the commercial on t.v. and smiled at each other. We actually considered checking it out, but due to finances we are going to wait. We are planning to get married in the states, then have a vow renewal and reception in Jamaica at a later date and will come by your bridal shop.

Q 1. She has to be friendly and not just fake friendly and have the ability to listen and envision the bride and groom to be dream wedding.
Q 2. What would impress me most is that she is really taking the time out to know what I exactly wants and within the price range specified and not trying to secretly upsale me if it wasn't in my best interest.
Q 3. I don't have a clue what the going rate for a wedding lanner is now.
Q 4. Overwhelmingly unorganized bridal clutter. It should be well organized by type of needs. So, I was a bride and only needed wedding favors I would expect it to be to the front of the store not way in the back. Bridal gowns and tuxedos should be to the back of the store.
Q 5. Same as question 3.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaJamaica's Extradition Refusal - Dudus
By time you are ready to file, the fees might have increased by then. Does anyone think this is the reson why its taking so long to get NOA2 because of this Dudus situation? Going on 4 months and counting for at least a touch from USCIS. I will be happy with just one touch that means they knocked the dust off of it and going to review it, lol.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaJamaican Dual Citizenship?

((BUMP))

does anyone know how long it takes to get dual citizenship?

It took me I think 2-3 months. It is an very easy process. My mom and I went to the embassy, for her to renew her passport and for me to get one, but I had to be a citizen first before I could apply. So, they took the information from her that they needed and they gave me a generic letter stating that I wanted to be a citizen of Jamaica. The embassy sends it to the office in Kingston, I believe that is the only way they will accept it unless you personally go to the office in Kingston. The picture for it is very specific so you would have to go to a passport picture place that specializes in country specific requirements. There is no fee to apply for citizenship. Once you have certificate in hand you can apply for a passport, which I have yet to do, lol.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaLength of time from USCIS to NVC
I finally got approved after 150 days in waiting and I didn't receive an email confirmation or nothing. Although, it was updated on May 1st but was still stuck in reviewing mode. To my surprise yesterday, I received NOA 2 and it was dated for April 30th. I just called NVC and they have not received the case. Does anyone have a clue how long it will take for them to receive it. Thanks greatly!!!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaLeaving Montego Bay Airport
I think its best to leave out of Mobay. Less hassle. Plus she may end up having a connecting flight to Mobay anyway. So kill 1 bird with two stones. I see your wedding date is very close to the day my guy proposed to me. Before I sent in the application I told him I wanted to get married on the day he proposed and by our 150 day approval, it looks like it may finally happen that way. Congrats!!!

Thanks you all for your help. I will email them again to ask them to send all correspondace to my email, because last week they said they will send out the instructions "soon". Its almost a week now and I am trying to get the ball rolling.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaEmailing the DS-230

It is worth a try...

At one point they were accepting scanned copies of the DS230 via e-mail... then it seemed a bunch of us tried it and they stopped accepting them... when I tried to e-mail the scanned copy they replied saying they were unable to open attachments. Because it was so close to our NAO2 expire date they gave me a fax number and told me to fax a copy of the DS230 to them...

I say send the e-mail and see what they say...

maybe they will accept a fax if not the scan... worse case scenario send it DHL...

Good luck

Thanks I was thinking of having the attachment within the email without having a link to open it.

I want to get some thoughts on those who recently had an interview or had one scheduled. Is it okay to email th embassy in Jamaica the ds-230 because I want to be able to minimize the amount of time fiance has to travel to Kingston right now. I had took him a copy of the ds-230 while I was in Jamaica and I told him to fill it out and mail it to me and I can scan it and send it to them through email. Do you all think that will be okay? His case is there in Jamaica but he has not received his packet 3 yet, so we are trying to get an head start on things. Also, I would like his interview be done before his b-day in july. It would even be better if he could enjoy DC's Carnival as well, but we will cross our fingers on that one, lol.

No, not yet. Fiance havent received his packet yet so I emailed them today about it and requested for them to send it to my email and all important information regarding his case. Sometime this week I will send them the ds-230 and hopefully get a date set.

What the Fudge? They couldn't have those whose petitions already approved and at the consulate pay the old fee and those who are waiting to be approved pay the higher fee. I had to wait the full 5 months of processing time when everyone else who filed after me got approved and had their interview already. I hope with these fee increases their processing time will increase as well and you call USCIS you don't have to hear the same information that is on the petition read to you by an live operator and actually have someone that can tell you more about your case.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaWEST KINGSTON JAMAICA BLOOD SHED!!!!!!

I am actually applauding the US gov't and Kingston for cancelling interviews/appts scheduled for tomorrow. For once they are being PROACTIVE instead of REACTIVE! Hell I think they should go ahead and just cancel them the rest of this week. I know how bad people want these appts, but to risk your life to do so? You can't be with your SO if they are dead. I would rather a delay. I'm praying for a resolution to this madness soon.

They need to delay fare hikes as well. I am with you on delaying things for awhile. I spoke to my sis in Portmore last night and her biggest concern is if ithe violence going to spread to them in Portmore.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaWEST KINGSTON JAMAICA BLOOD SHED!!!!!!
I spoke to my sister last night and she says its not pretty. She says news break has been on tv since 7 pm. A lot of places are being caught on fire and police are being attacked. Today is Labor Day in Jamaica and business' are closed. Thugs have burned down Hannah Town Police station and I think Denham Town as well. Everything is spreading out of the Tivoli Community into neighboring communities. JPS cut off the power to downtown Kingston hoping Dudus will give himself up, but thugs have the city on lock down. At first I was going to try to push my Fiance through quickly to get an interview, but I think I may hold off a bit until Kingston cool down. My sister says it could be a month before things get better. I would advise if anyone has upcoming interviews to kind of hold off a bit. I know we love them and want them here, but Kingston is not a good area to travel to right now. I don't even think air traffic is flying into there because my sis says from windward road up to marcus garvey drive to spanish town road is locked off. Police are throughly searching people on the street. Also, people in the community that wants to come out can't come out due to thugs detering government help from coming into the communities. It does not look good there at all.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBringing the kids to the interview.
Do you all think bringing our kids (his son and my daughter) to the interview to show that we do have an genuine relationship. I have pics of all of us together and especially with the kids eating together and just being silly together. Also, my daughter clings to my fiance like white on rice and at times call him daddy, but primarily calls him by his petname.

One more thing, my fiance sent me half of the $455 k-1 visa fee. Should I include that in the packet of evidence or will it discredit the case?

Thank you for any feedback.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAir Jamaica suspended flights from Baltimore

Sasha -- have you looked at AIRTRAN

Airtran is a bit more expensive, if I was traveling alone it would be no problem but I am traveling with my daughter as well. I decided to Air Ja going doing and do a connecting flight coming back.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAir Jamaica suspended flights from Baltimore

There is a lot that goes into these decisions and I doubt that it truly is a stupid decision. Airlines are a business meant to make money (although they often don't). While flying from Kingston to Nassau might seem ridiculous, I imagine that they make more money due to lack of competition. They probably charge much higher rates because of this.

I can understand maybe leaving from a US city to increase revenue, but from Kingston to Nassau highly unlikely. They may have some ridership for those wanting to connect in Jamaica. Also rates will not be higher leaving from Kingston to Nassau because of the distance it is from the island. The further the distance, the higher the ticket and the last time I checked Ba;timore is further away from Kingston than it is from Nassau. My point of the whol matter is not to suspend the service, in the past they have combined flights with other cities to have full capacity. We have a large base of Jamaican's in our area and like the fact that the airline is able to fly direct without having to spend hours and hours in layovers and risk having your lugguage lost in the process. When we jamaicans travel, they probably make more money in luggugae being overweight or in excess than how much we pay in ticket prices. Despite the changes and craziness, I will still stand by them. I dont like it, but until I win the lottery I would just have to deal with it, lol.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaAir Jamaica suspended flights from Baltimore
I am planning on going to Jamaica for my fiance's interview. Come to find out Air Jamaica suspended their service for the summer period from Baltimorebeginning July 1st. When I went to Jamaica in April, I found out my flight to Baltimore was cancelled and the were offering a flight to Philadelphia with ground transportation to Baltimore. Then to take the plane to use to service other heavier traffic routes, but coincidentally at the same time the are offering services from Nassau to Kingston. I love Air Jamaica because out of a lot of airlines that fly to Jamaica you can get a direct flight without layovers. Also, I would like to share this they have had so really stupid flight schedules. For instance, if I were to fly to Kingston and to come back to Baltimore, I would have to fly to Mobay in the evening and leave to Baltimore the next day in the morning. I have seen some other ridiculous flight schedules and I just wonder who makes these type of executive decisions. Has anyone recently felt frustrated with Air Jamaica since they have been bought out by Caribbean Airlines? Sorry yall had to vent a bit.
