If I'm reading this write then not only do you have to go to the Federal police to request the document but then you have to go back to pick it up? They don't send it in the mail or anything?

yea I only thought she needs to take them to the consulate. I'll have her ask. It's good to know about the notary though, I don't remember reading that before as necessary.

So there is a specific notary in each town just for the police report?

is the police certificate needed to be sent to the consulate in Rio? From the Rio consulate website it seems that it doesn't need to be. However, the link below to VJ Rio Consulate page suggests the contrary

I'm not sure how important or unimportant it is to have your father's name on the birth certificate. You might want to try contacting the embassy if there is no other info in VJ forums. Or you could send a paper explaining the situation as well.

This link shows that it takes approximately 60-90 days for the interview once the NVC has received the document.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaOverstayed tourist visa in Brazil
QUOTE (mateo @ Apr 22 2008, 04:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I lived in Brazil for 7 years, and had a work, then permanent visa. I have a very good friend who still lives in Brazil, we were in the same band in Brazil fro about 5 years. He travels home every year after overstaying for 5 to 7 months. He pays the fine at the airport on his exit and then when he gets home applies for a replacement passport. Visits for the holidays and returns to Brazil for another year. He has never had any problems.

Hope this helps.

You can apply for a Brazilian passport while in the U.S.? My fiancee told me she has to go in person for it...

Mexico, Latin & South Americavisitor visa or fiancee visa?
At the beginning I considered the feasibility of a tourist visa or student visa before I even knew what a fiancee visa was. When I figured that out, it seemed the best choice for us since she would still have the rights to study, travel, and become a U.S. citizen (eventually) without getting into a likely complicated and stressful process of adjusting from student/tourist visa to permanent resident.

Mexico, Latin & South Americavisitor visa or fiancee visa?
QUOTE (Jomo @ May 6 2008, 09:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
That's not entirely true. If he is just visiting, then, no he would not face deportation unless something crazy like illegal things were going on.

However, if he specifically came to the US to marry her, using his visitors visa, there are circumstances that could arrise to cause deportation and banning. It is illegal to use a visitor's visa if the intent is to marry and stay. It is all about intent. Be very careful.

That's what I was getting at.
Jack and BarbaraMaleBrazil2008-05-06 09:26:00
Mexico, Latin & South Americavisitor visa or fiancee visa?
Also be aware that if it is found out your SO is coming on a visitor visa when in fact you are engaged, your SO would likely face deportation proceedings. How likely is that happening is another question because USCIS considers coming to the U.S. for a tourist visa (or other non-K1 visa for that matter) with the intent to marry as fraud.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaCivil Marriage in US then Religious Marriage in Peru?
Have not done it yet, but my fiancee (Brazilian) is going to get civilly married here in July and then next year we will get married religiously in Brazil. AP estimates are about 4 months which is something to consider. Another consideration would be finding a religious official to do such a ceremony. I think she has had some problems finding a priest to marry us without legally marrying us at the same time, even though we would be already legally married in the U.S. and could bring our marriage license.

I was thinking Visitor's Visa, but I am told that is not easy to get...

At this point I am planning another trip to JA in April.

fictional story? I don't follow...

Visitor's visa is fine to get to know the person, but is not a legal option to coming and getting married, just as student visas are not the legal path to getting married (though some people do it). I would recommend trying the visitor visa to meet the person more (it should be easier for the U.S. citizen to get one then vice versa) and if and when you both are serious enough, then look into the K-1 visa "fiancee" visa.

Taking pictures together (stamped with date) along with holding onto plane tickets would be a good start. I also recommend reading the guides (see tab at top) specific to K-1 visa or other spouse visas when you are ready (or now, if curious)

First off, I would recommend filling out your timeline timeline.gif

If yours is a K-1 visa, then start saving phone bills, letters, e-mails, receipts for engagement rings, plane tickets, etc for the application submission and eventual interview.

Do they only log the application at the same time they assign the interview date? and would it show as logged if there is a problem and they send an RFE?

I called the DOS yesterday Nick and they said they had logged my P3 April 13th (I sent it March 22nd) but no interview date yet assigned. So I guess that may worry you on the one hand cos it's been logged but take comfort from the fact I don't have a date either....know I'm clutching at straws :)

I didn't put a travel date either but I'm starting to wish I had. I only put my wedding date - Nov 27th. Admittedly I'm in no rush but I would like to get it all done and dusted!

Eeek... I just reread that. When you say "normally they would want a psych evaluation," is that something the Knightsbridge doctor said? We are hoping that with a note from the fiance's gp, a psych evaluation would not be needed... we're really not in the mood to shell out hundreds of pounds and wait longer for this useless step. I'm guessing if the embassy asked for psych evaluations often, more people in the forums would have mentioned that... I don't see this.

Her exact words were 'psychiatric letter' which I would take to mean I would be required to see a psychiatrist, but I didn't press her further. I honestly don't know so really sorry if I made you worry unnecessarily!! :(

Incidentally, I don't know how anyone can deal with this whole process and in addition have a full-blown, flowers/dress/cake/music wedding with relatives. I would go mad trying to plan something like that as well. I'm so much happier with our $150 Elvis impersonator in Vegas plan. I think the wedding will take 30 minutes. Perfect.

LOL I'm attempting the whole flowers/dress/cake/music thing, but fortunately (or unfortunately depending on which way you look at it) I am the world's worst bride, so I'm quite relaxed about the whole thing. Ceremony and reception are all covered in a package we got at the Marriott so the big things are all sorted - and I'm not fussed about the little things :)

It does mean though that when I go and visit in 13 days time (woooooo!!!) I will spend 11 days running around sorting wedding stuff rather than relaxing by the pool!!

Thanks Kristen & Hokie

I was simply curious and am now astonished that there is no checking up with GP, as humanity being what it is, their system is wide open for people being dishonest. Any job medical I have had has been checked with GP.
I don't have anything out of the ordinary or any hospitalisations in my medical history, apart from having my tonsils and adenoids whipped out age 6 (hope they're not expecting any documentation for that, 30 odd years ago!).

It's pretty astonishing but they do rely on you being honest. I guess the logic being that you're going to be interviewed under oath at the Embassy anyway so it's not in your interests to lie...

They check for the stuff they're most interested in i.e. TB and infectious diseases, but rely on you for the rest.

The checkup and questioning was pretty thorough (I got a good grilling!!) so I guess they'd know by experience if I was witholding anything.

Hey all,

Just wanted to let you know I passed my medical :D Just!!

Rito, thanks so much for that info you posted last week or I would have been buggered...as it happens the info I provided (letter from my current GP stating that they hadn't seen me in the 2 years I'd been registered there for that condition - had an eating disorder as a teenager) was only just passable - she really wanted my discharge notes :S I got a pretty good grilling from the doc (who, by the way, was not particularly pleasant - although once we started talking about prison tattoos of all things she loosened up a bit!) - it didn't help that I've been ill recently and so came up as underweight - but she said she was confident I was OK and not likely to relapse.

She said she will send off my stuff to the Embassy as a pass but that normally they would want a psych evaluation (as you mentioned Rito) so there is a chance the Embassy may send it back :( I think if I haven't heard from them by the end of next week I'm in the clear - for once no news is good news :)

Only one step left now...eeeep!!

Harsh! When I studied in London, I took the Megabus almost every other weekend to visit my boyfriend (now fiance) in Manchester... I gotta say it grew on me a little. It's not the sweetest smelling, but it has character. Also, UK train prices are outrageous!

Oh, don't get me wrong!! The megabus is an amazing (and cheap!) thing...but they do tend to be a bit whiffy and are either boiling hot or freezing cold lol.

And I'm with you on the train prices - I had to move offices because my 25-minute train ride commute was bankrupting me. But the advance singles, if you can get in there early enough, are brill - my now-in-jeopardy train to London for my medical was the same price as the megabus and cuts 3 hours off the journey time :) that's why I'm so frustrated!!

The rail strikes begin on our interview date - April 6 - and my fiance's traveling to London from Northern Ireland. :-/ We're altering plans now, trying to get him staying as close to the embassy as possible and praying the tubes run.

The Tube should be fine. Well, as fine as it ever gets, lol.

This is a National Rail unions strike rather than London Underground workers, so it will only affect national and local rail services. The Tube is covered by a different union so at least from that perspective he should be good.

I have my contingency plan in the form of a Megabus ticket that I really hope I don't have to use...the Megabus smells.

Oh, I see. My mistake. Well I guess it would be a similar situation where until they open the mail in London, DOS would have no way of knowing. Once it gets opened, then DOS is the easier way to find out. But London issued like 80,000 non-immigrant visas in 2009 so I get the sense that they don't open and deal with your docs the same day they arrived. Don't remember the number of immigrant visas. We sent it with a tracking or delivery type confirmation so we knew it arrived, but it took exactly 3 weeks to get the appointment letter from them. I think it's running at least 4 weeks now somebody said earlier. Good luck to you. It's a terrible wait because you're so close, but still in the dark.

Aw man. I thought I'd read somewhere on here that if you sent your P3 recorded delivery it got rejected cos they wouldn't sign for stuff, so I just sent mine regular mail. I'm not Royal Mail's biggest fan so if I'd realised I could I would have definitely got a signature on delivery ;)

Good question. I'm assuming you mean the beneficiary name is misspelled? Hopefully someone has an answer on this on for ya, but if it were me I'd call the NVC. Maybe posting this in the consulate section might get a few hits.

it was the petitioner's name that was misspelled. We rang nvc who told us to call the embassy....rang dos who told us to email scslondon@state.gov, but the auto reply said it was not for visa queries.

At the moment I'm not too worried as his name is spelled correctly on the noa1 and noa2 from uscis as well as the i129f - and I'm assuming by this stage it's all about me (the beneficiary ;)) but I was wondering if anyone had come across anything similar.

As an aside I also managed to miss some previous addresses off my g325a, which I thought might mean an rfe from uscis - but we got a straight approval. At the moment my plan of action is to take an amended g325a with me to interview just in case, but not send it in case it just causes complications. However I'd welcome any advice :)

So I am up to my eyeballs in P3 forms and despairing slightly, lol!

Few questions:

DS-157: For my last 2 employers (not including my current job), my last 2 employers are the same (Disney), but at totally separate times and in separate lines of business. Is this OK, or should I list my job before that with a different employer?

DS-157: Same section, if I can't remember my supervisor's last name should I just leave it blank? It was a long time ago!!

DS-230 (and DS-156): Do I literally have to list every time I've ever been in the US since I was a baby, or just times when I had a visa? My memory is blank pre-1994, but I know I visited several times - I first went to the States to see my granddad when I was 8 weeks old lol

Any advice gratefully received - it's really annoying that I don't have a printer at home cos trying to get this done at work is impossible!!

My finace was told that i shouldnt book the medical until we recieve package four? I have already booked mine and its next week (what can i say im eager to get things done and over with) has anyone encountered a problem with going for the medical too early?

Also, if packet three has been sent, is it really worth waiting for it to arrive or can i just go ahead and send them the forms? is there anything in there that is likely to trip me up if i dont wait to recevie it? I am 100% sure i know exactly what i need to send.

I know im soo inpatient, but if i explained my situation im sure you would understand why.

Nick when I realised you have the same NVC left date as me I too rang the DOS...and our Packet 3 is on its way too!!! Expecting it by Friday.

If you look at the medical info on the Embassy website one of the FAQs is what to do if you dont have an interview date yet - and it says not to worry and that the results are good for 12 months, so it's clearly OK and happens a lot. Mine's on the 7th :)

I have a similar problem in that we left the city that I had my baby vaccinations (and the hospital closed down) so there's no records available. That's why I stared the thread asking about what they actually ask when it comes to vaccinations. I'll let you know if I get a better response than 'I just had them all done again.'

I read in the Canadian forum that there's some kind of blood test that can be done to show what you're immune to but I don't know if that needs doing for the K1 visa or if you tell the doctor your reasons for not having or that you have had the vaccination they'll take your word for it.

OK, so let's say worse case scenario I have to have them done, and my doctor suddenly decides after 25 years it is safe for me to do so.

I guess my question is, would I have to have ALL the childhood vaccines done or only the ones that are relevant for my current age? The only ones that are relevant for my age are the Tetanus Diptheria and Polio (which I *have* had, and recently) and the MMR - and the Measles jab is what I had an allergic reaction to, so I should be able to get medical exemption for that one at least - or would they make me have alllllllll the listed vaccinations? Does that make sense?

You can book your medical. You only need to have your NVC case no. to do it, you don't have to wait for packet 3. Miss Jess and others recently have.

I have indeed, but I'm kinda with visacat on this one. I've given myself a good 4 weeks to allow the Embassy to log the case and hopefully send out P3. If I haven't got P3 by the beginning of April I'm going to consider rescheduling the medical - I just wouldn't want the results to be sent to the embassy and then just vanish into the ether....and then have to have another one *shudder*

I've just got back from my doctors, who were completely and utterly useless. They don't have my medical records except for stuff I've had done with them - so no childhood vaccinations record  (given that my company actually runs the NHS's IT infrastructure, maybe I should beat them up instead...). Plus, despite me telling them over the phone what I needed, the nurse I saw promptly announced that she couldn't issue me with a medical exemption letter, that I'd have to come back and see the GP and pay £20!!!

Gah. Useless. I'm getting kinda worried that the doctors for the medical won't believe I have a medical reason for not having the vaccinations and I'll have to choose between running the risk and getting no visa

No, you can book your medical as soon as you know your LND number.

I have a couple of questions about this actually - one of which I've asked before but as you folks are recent grads of the embassy you may have a clear answer ;)

So with the medical - guesstimate of what the wait for an appointment is at the moment? Just trying to figure out if I should just book it (and try and align it with a work trip to London so I don't have to pay for the train ;)) or wait a bit.

Also, I have a problematic vaccination history. I had an allergic reaction to the Measles vaccine when I was a kiddie and so pretty much haven't had any vaccinations since (Mumps and Rubella being notable omissions). Will a letter from my doctor advising I shouldn't have any vaccines grown on eggs for medical reasons suffice?

From the way I understand the vaccine chart I'm only supposed to have Tetanus, MMR and Varicella anyway for my age group - I'm just worrying about it.
