Off the top of my head, his page simply queries the Visa Journey database, so only reflects what you've personally entered.

Keep those timelines updated!

In the UK you have booths which, if you follow the on-screen computer prompts correctly, print 4 perfect (UK) passport-spec photos instantly.

Are there not similar over in the US?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPeople just dont get it, do they?
I think going through this process has made me more aware of other immigration situations as well. My daughter's teacher is currently in Vietnam waiting for her adopted daughter to recieve a visa to bring her back home and I think to myself, I kind of know how she feels trying to bring a loved one here.
My family has been supportive, but they don't really seem to know what's going on, even though I've talked to them about it.
So far, the only people that seem to even have a vague understanding of what Stu and I are (just starting) going through are my best friend and my dad. My dad even surprised me by reading up on as much immigration law as he could, so when I was talking to him last night about EAD's and the process in general, he knew what I was talking about and he knew how long we have to wait without me having to really tell him about it. It was really awesome and made me feel like he really cares about what's going on in my life. I feel gratefull that I have people in my life, who even if they don't "get it" completely, they at least are excited and/or interested about it all and just happy that I'm happy.
It's frustrating when people don't seem to "get it", but like it's been said earlier in this thread, I don't think they will ever fully understand until they go through it themselves. Hang in there! smile.gif

I've actually thought the same thing blink.gif It kind of really worries me when people say they just used that exact format. I mean it seems a bit scam-artisty doesn't it? I don't want them to track down this site and go 'oh nos what's this' and think it's like...a big cheat sheet way for fraudsters to get through the gov. and convince them of relationships. I know that's really paranoid but yeh...it's like cheating on an exam...you have to change SOME of the words around for goodness's sake unsure.gif

Paranoia, I reckon wink.gif This place doesn't help you cheat, it just helps reduce the likelihood of RFEs, amongst other things.

I need to stop lurking in the ROC forums and check in here more often!
Congratulations to all the new parents-to-be and recent little ones coming in to the world! Babies are so tiring, yet so awesome! :D
We thought I was pregnant with baby #3 (not planned), but that's not the case this time, which is ok. We're planning on trying for baby #3 later this year anyways, if everything goes well. Having two kids already, buying a house, filing for ROC, and buying plane tickets for the UK can really drain a bank account, so we want to get the finances in order again first.
On a side note, our 14 month old has both passports and that worked really well when we traveled to the UK for Christmas. Hubby carried her UK passport and I had her US one, so of course no problems at either border.
Also as an FYI for USC parents with children from previous marriages/relationships, we were asked for a letter from my ex for my 8 year old daughter at UK immigration and also for her birth certificate, since our last name is different from hers. We had the letter giving her permission to travel to the UK, but completely forgot her birth certificate. Fortunately, the border agent let us go through, since we weren't staying very long and it's obvious she is mine, as she looks like my clone, but he said not to forget it next time.

Good luck to all those that are trying for little ones! I'm in my early 30's, but have had a few issues in the past with pregnancies and my doctors were very positive about all the different options that are out there, so don't give up if you're having trouble! :)

Interesting, no TB skin test either? Are we Brits exempt from this or something, or just assumed to be intelligent enough to guess how to go about it, despite there being no instructions!

Sigh.

Sorry to double post.

Someone in the AOS forum kindly confirmed that I will need the TB skin test. Unless it's something that has to be done here locally in the US, I'm really disappointed Knightsbridge weren't more on the ball.

Anyway, now to figure out where we need to get this TB test done :s

Folks, should I have had a TB skin test during my medical? I'm just starting the AOS process and noticed this:

QUOTE
Q: When did the new TB requirements become effective?

The new TB testing and treatment requirements became effective on May 1, 2008. However, CDC allowed a 30 day grace period. Therefore, any medical exam that takes place on or after June 1, 2008 must be performed in accordance with the new TB testing requirements.

which kinda suggests they should have done one at Knightsbridge.

Just when you think you're on top of this process, something else renders you completely confused.

Medical July 9th, 1.50pm, Bentinck Mansions.

I got there around 1.30pm. It really is only a few minutes walk from Bond Street station, I printed out a map from Google Maps so that it had a bit more detail, as "Map B" provided wasn't very clear.

At the front desk, I was asked for the questionnaire sheet that was included in packet 3, a photo (I gave them a spare US sized one I had handy) and a copy of my vaccination record. My local GP's office were able to provide a print out of my vaccination records going all the way back to when the computerised records began in the late 80s, and Knightsbridge were happy to accept this.

In the waiting room, I was asked to fill out a similar questionnaire (only ticking yes or no, not providing any detail) and sign an AIDS test consent form. After around 10 minutes I was called in to have my chest x-rayed, the guy was pretty amusing so made me quite relaxed.

Back in the waiting room for a few minutes, I was eventually called in by the Irish doctor. After going through the yes/no answers I provided, he asked a few more questions and asked me to take my shoes off and hop on the weighing scales. It didn't break when I stood on it, thankfully. He then measured my height (seems I'm closer to 5'10, could have sworn I was 5'11) and then asked so sit in front of a selotape X on the carpet. He turned around and said "oh no sorry, I said stand in front of the X!"

I guess my hearing is a bit pants tongue.gif

Anyway, read some stuff off the eye chart, then sat on the bed. He took my blood pressure (through my shirt) and checked my lungs and heart at various positions on my chest and back. I then had to lie down and he checked my feet. I honestly had no idea what he was checking there, although I think my socks were a bit stinky. He then went off and wrote something down and started talking about my background, whilst getting me to un-button my jeans. I knew exactly what was coming and started babbling on about my physics degree to avoid the looming uncomfortable situation. After leaning on my stomach a bit, he was waffling about something and, sure enough, said "and just a quick peak" whilst looking down my underwear. I'm not sure what he ascertained in that split second, perhaps that I'm male.

Anyway, last thing to do was the blood sample. I was still waffling about physics, dreading the needle, when he proceeded to puncture my arm with a sword and take some blood. After a few minutes he put a plaster on it and that was me done! Nothing out of the ordinary.

When I went out into the foyer to pay, I noticed blood all over my (best) shirt. I nipped back in and he spent ages cleaning it up and put another plaster on it. He rolled up my sleeve to hide the blood stain and said I should start a trend of having one sleeve rolled up. tongue.gif

Anyway, job done smile.gif I would guess it all lasted about 30-40 minutes. Worth noting that because I had the interview earlier in the day, the Embassy still had my passport. They gave me a photocopy of the picture page to give to the Knightsbridge people, which seemed to suffice.

I've been wondering about this, too. Thankfully I appear to be on an older loan with different conditions. At last check, I had to be grossing £24k (£2000 monthly before tax, basically) before I needed to pay the loan back. Can I assume then that the terms will more or less transfer to my needing to earn about $48k ish or am I best discussing the specifics with the SLC themselves?

United KingdomTransfering dental (and medical?) records
Hi folks

Been trying to think of all the things that might crop up in the future while waiting for the NOA2 and suddenly thought about my dental and medical records. Is it possible to obtain these and take them with me to the US, when I eventually get my visa? Is it actually worth doing, or will GPs in the US want to just start from scratch with a thorough once over?

This mostly came to mind because I've had trouble with my wisdom teeth in the past (twice, in the last 10 years) and thought the old x-rays and dental history might be useful to a US dentist.

Thanks in advance!

Ah, lovely, cheers! I was on that page earlier (the first link) but couldn't understand the terminology. OK, so I've done a bit of searching about,

QUOTE (Iowa drivers license site)
Permanent resident foreign nationals should bring their Permanent Resident Card (I-551). Permanent resident foreign nationals may be issued a full term Driver's License or Non-Driver Identification Card.

Does that mean once we're nearing the end of the AOS process and I get that I-551 stamp in my passport, I'm good to prod the local license place and see about being issued with a full Iowa license? I must admit, all this time I was assuming I'd need to resit a test and start driving in the US from scratch.

Obviously your mileage will vary, but I've found UPS couriers in this area to be rather excellent in particular, as compared others. United KingdomSir Alan slams equal opportunity laws
I must admit, I had no idea young women were asked these sorts of questions in interviews. It does seem a little draconian, although I suppose protagonists on either side will have a long list of pros and cons. It got me thinking though - there was a piece on BBC news a short while back showing how both maternity and paternity leave can be much better on the continent. I don't recall which country it was, but the deal was something like 14 months total paid leave, to be divided between mother and father as it suited them. As such, you'd see a lot of dads at home instead of mums, if that was more useful to their situation.

Assuming I'm recalling this correctly, I wonder if they have the same prejudices there? Arguably, dads could potentially be off for a long time.

Well, I'm not too worried about credit rating per se. Shan and I have a joint checking and savings account in the US already, and apparently they do some sort of credit card where you stump up a deposit up front ($300-$10,000 I think the clerk said) and they give you a credit card with that credit limit on it, so you can build up transactions and history in your name.

Just would have been nice to bring this rating over as is!

Thanks for the replies, folks.

United KingdomTaking my credit rating with me
I've had a good search for credit rating threads, but can't seem to come up with anything relevant to what I've just read on another (unrelated) forum:

QUOTE
If you move from America to the UK (or vice versa), your credit history follows you as from May 2007. It's unclear if it can be used to judge your future credit, and as far as I know it can only be used as an 'influencer'. It's not applicable to all countries either yet.

Is that true? I've built up a decent credit rating over the past 6 years so being able to take any of that with me would probably be quite handy.

Anyone have any experience of this?

My medical notes had no record of my vaccinations either so I just got my GP to do them again before the medical.

Trying to pre-empt things, I had a word with my GP, whom I've had since I was a lad, and the only vaccination records they had were a couple from when I was in school, nothing of early childhood etc.

To be honest, I'm just gonna arrange to have the relevant ones (I mentioned I was emigrating) shortly now, before NOA2 pops up. Shouldn't be any cost at all, to my knowledge.
