I think that's me!!!! :D

Specially since not many at all go to Sydney haha. I've looked at like the past few week's trackings' and barely anything goes to Australia. So it must be me!!!

HAha. I'm so excited.. but you're right ELW, it does leave us lots less time to get things together (my fiance's side)
But he's going to go get his police report this weekend, and that will be done before his packet 3 arrives :)

This is great news after seeing someone broke into my car and left me with no passenger window at all :(
Who would want to steal an old Ipod that's not even being made anymore! lol. I still can't believe they broke my window just for a very old Ipod.. =/ blah!!

Good thing for insurance I guess...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUSCIS Case Status
YAY.. I just called this morning at 7:40am (EST) and asked if they received my case, and they have!!

Hey ELW or anyone else that can answer this question..

How do you know when the consulate/embassy receives the case? Is this found out by that DHL method? Or does NVC let you know if it has been received?

Thanks!
serendipitousFemaleAustralia2007-03-06 08:06:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUSCIS Case Status

So when we call they will give us our NVC Case number?

When you call the NVC, you give them the USCIS number (it's on the NOA2 approval email/snail mail letter). If they say no, we don't have any record of that case yet, keep calling (this is the obsessive compulsive part of it ).Once NVC receives your case and it is entered into the system (might take 1-3 weeks after your NOA2), they will tell you what the new case number is, and the day they sent it to the foreign Embassy.

Ah, that was a great help ELW Mine seems to have fallen behind a filing cabinet or something and after nearly 40 days of waiting I was trying to figure out what I needed to do to check on it at NVC. You are a life saver.

:) Ahh thanks, glad to help...I feel all warm & fuzzy... :luv:

Woot, you totally rock!!
I'll be one of those compulsive people who bug the NVC about my case and knowing the status of it. I can't wait! haha.

Thanks so much ELW!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUSCIS Case Status

How do we know when our package is received by NVC and sent off to the consulates?
Will we have the ability to access a status page sort of thing with the NVC like we did our I-129Fs with the USCIS?

Sorry, no status page at NVC like at USCIS.

NVC Info (to find out when your case arrives/leaves there and to get NVC Case number):
Call (603) 334-0700 - press "1" for English then "5" to speak to a rep on the phone. Be ready with USCIS case number, beneficiary name and birthdate. K1 visas are NOT entered into the automatic system. Reps are available 7:30 AM - 12 midnight Eastern time. Call right after they open or right before they close for best results - during the day lines are always busy.

Tracking your file via DHL from NVC to Embassy:

1. Go to http://www.dhl-usa.com/home/home.asp
2. Click on "Track"
3. Click on "Track by Reference"
4. A "Track it by reference" form will come up. Next to "Reference" type in "CORRESPONDENCE"
5. In the "Shipment pickup date range" put in the date the NVC said they mailed off your package.
6. In the box "Origin Postal Code" type in "03801"
7. Press on the red "Track" button
8. Several pages of results will come up. Look through the "Receiver's Name" for your Embassy. There might be several packages going to your embassy - but you won't know which one is yours. Anyway, most sent on the same day will arrive the same day. Press on the red "Tracking number" of any package going to your Embassy and up will come a page showing where it is now.

Aww thanks!! So when we call they will give us our NVC Case number? Or do we get that in the mail first and then provide that case # and the other information to get a status check?

So after approval at USCIS there's basically no more dealings with them.

How do we know when our package is received by NVC and sent off to the consulates? I notice a lot of people have information pertaining to these dates in their signatures/timelines.

Will we have the ability to access a status page sort of thing with the NVC like we did our I-129Fs with the USCIS?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresKind of complicated story.. ideas appreciated~
When I first started dating my bf who is in Australia, I didn't immediately jump to the whole marriage thing. That's something you really want to think about. I mean living together, and being that committed is a huge thing and being so young (not that i'm that old, i'm only 22) you change a lot in the way you think, & the person you become.

I took the less permanent route when I wanted to spend time with my bf. I did a study abroad program for 6 months in Australia. It was great! It's usually not that expensive, and plus you get to go to school! You don't put off anytime while trying to explore what it's like being with your boyfriend. I thought that was a huge plus, not having to put off school and getting to travel as well!

You should really think about that option since you are still... 16. What's wrong with putting things(marriage) off for a few years? I mean if you guys are meant to be together, he'll still be there in two years ;)

But yeah, that's just my humble opinion, from someone who did do the study abroad thing. You get the freedom of not being around your parents, and being with your boyfriend!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLawyer and ISCIS errors, big delays
I was going to get a lawyer for this process because like the OP I wanted NO mistakes and a case that would be processed as quick as possible.

Thank god I chose not to after realizing how much simpler(and cheaper) it could be if i just do a little research on everything myself. I looked online, and those lawyer fees were like at least 1000$+ That's insane imo considering I did everything myself and got things moving along pretty quickly myself!

Goodluck on the rest of your journey though :)

I figure, whatever the situation is that's really important to you, Google always always is one of the first places I go to, just because there's sooooooo much information on the internet from most likely people in the same situation/with the same goals as you. Plus there's forums for everything these days :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow soon do you check
I got my notice on a Thursday. I called the Friday and was told they didn't get the packet yet.
Then I called the following Monday and was told that it had been received. I called at around 7:40am EST when they first open up the lines. I got through within one-two minutes to speak with an operator :)

She told me it was received and that I should call back the next day and the day after that and if I need to the day after that as well to find out when it was forwarded to the embassy.

I then called the next day during the day and it was super busy. I called back later at night at around 9pm EST and it was still too busy to get through to an operator. I gave up that night and just called the next morning at around 7:40am again, I got through. I was told that my case was forwarded to Sydney, Australia. Yay. :) (But I had found out from an email notice from NVC first because aside from calling them, I also emailed them as soon as I got my NOA2 and they responded to me when it was forwarded to the embassy overseas). I only called to make sure the email wasn't a fluke hah. And sure enough, it wasn't!

:) I hope that helps!

Goodluck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTrying to marry a french citizen, don't understand times
If you go here:

http://www.visajourn...m/faq/k1faq.htm

It pretty much answers mostly all the questions you've asked.
It also has many "sample" forms and sample templates for the things you may need to write out.
If you take the time to read this guide alone, you'll have a much greater understanding of this whole process.
It really is an easy read, and makes things pretty clear about what is required, what you will go through and what may happen along the way.

If you go here: (which someone kindly told me about just recently)

http://www.visajourn...ex.php?letter=F

And click on embassy information and reviews you can see first hand what your specific embassy requires.
You can also read reviews of people who have already gone through the interviews/this whole process with the Paris embassy.

Take a look over those two guides. They really help to clear things up.

Perfect. If you are the petitioner, make sure the beneficiary signs a letter of intent also and vice versa.

You read my mind :)
That was going to be my next question. I will be sure to make one up for him as well and send it over with the packet so he can sign and date it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLetter of Intent

3. Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).

Quoted from this page:

http://www.visajourn...mp;page=k1guide

I have a question, I'm compiling my packet to send off to my fiance and I've just opened up my previous letter of intenet that I sent off with the I-129F petition. Do I just change the dates and the recipient information on my letter? (US Consulate of Sydney instead of USCIS Vermont Service Center)

Is this letter of intent pretty much exactly the same as the first one except for the much more recent date (the date closer to the interview and not that of before filling the I-129F petition)?

Sorry for asking so many questions! But I didn't find an example of the second Letter of Intent (this is also considered evidence of continuing relationship isn't it)?

Thanks for the response ahead of time.

hey,

Here's an example of the DS-156 Form filled out for a K-1 visa.

http://www.visajourn...Form-DS-156.pdf

I hope it helps, you can pretty much answer the same way, because the K-1 is considered Non-immigrant (even though you have intentions of living/working here permanently after adjustment of status), and since the DS-156 Form is used for more than just the k-1 visa, some of the questions apply moreso to other visa cases.

Hope I didn't confuse you more. :)

And here's the sample form for the DS-156K form:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat To Do If Your Fiance Is Already In The USA
My fiance was here when we first started to file for the I-129F. I prepared the papers like a month in advance and it made everything much simpler. We would compile our information together, he was able to sign forms and so forth and we got everything in order rather quickly because he was actually here with me.

We sent off the petition before he had left, and we got our NOA1 when he was still here.
That's what we did and so far although he is in Australia, everything is going pretty smoothly.
We're only about 3 weeks into the process and already our case is being sent over to the Consulate in Australia.

Are you intending for her to just stay with you without going back to get her daughter and all her belongings?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCrying!

I'm like most people here, haven't cried (yet) but get incredibly frustrated when I see that other people who sent their paperwork are getting NOA1s and NOA2s left and right. It's a bittersweet type of feeling because I'm happy for them since we're all rooting for each other but then I think "what about me??"

The one thing I've felt lately is guilt. For some reason I feel responsible for the whole thing since I was the one who filled out most of the paperwork, sent it in and am in charge of checking what is going on with it. Not receiving even my first NOA1 makes me feel like I'm failing, especially when my husband asks "did you get it yet?" :(

Aww, as long as you did everything you were suppose to for those forms, it isn't your fault that it's taking the service center a bit longer to issue you a NOA1. It will come in time :) Remember, service centers other than VSC is going to be a bit slower.
Don't blame yourself for things like this that you can't change/fix. :) We have enough in life to worry and agonize over, don't let the things you can't change hold you down as well =] You did all that you could!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCrying!
I haven't cried over this, but I have been SUPER frustrated.

It's so hard doing this process when your fiance is half way across the world! Today I had one of those moments. I was just so frustrated, I was trying to get my fiance to get his paperwork ready and he couldn't even find his birth certificate. Last year when I was there I organized all his papers (everything important pretty much). I have a compulsive behavior to organize everything.. lol. And so when he told me he couldn't find it, i wanted to smack him. I know it's in the filing cabinet in the sorted folders, but he keeps telling me it's not. Unless he took it out between now and last year, it should be there!! Things like this makes it so much harder, if I was there I'd find everything and sort everything out for him in a heartbeat. HAH. This is my rant about how helpless some males are without their woman :)

In the end, it will be all worth it though! It's only a few months of agonizing frustration. It will be over soon at least that's what I tell myself. =)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI hate VSC/NVC

Well,

Just to cheer everyone up we got in touch with Senator Collins office in Maine, and within 15 minutes she located my petition, they promised to take it out of the 'storage facility' its in (that they already wrote me a letter to promise me its not in), and as a bonus she requested they expedite it to make up some of the delay!

So, as I was told and others have said - if you get any grief from the NVC your senator is the person to go to. I know someone getting my vote in the future :)

Yay, I'm glad things are turning around for you. :)
I guess some politicians are worth the air on this earth.
I just got my NOA2. I hope nothing bad happens to our petition as well. Hopefully they've learned their lesson after being in contact with our congressmen!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhat do u fill in the forms when u don't have a middle name?
On most government forms NMN is used (means - No Middle Name). For UCIS - who knows.
If you submit your papers with a Cover Letter, you can mention that you have no middle name
and marked NMN, N/A, None or whatever you decide to use. Cover letters are also good to
list all of the attachments you enclosed with you papers.
