Hey all -

Quick question: I know about Igor's list (new and old), but I've also seen Ewok's List mentioned a couple of times. Anyone have any idea what that is or have a link to it?

Thanks!!
- JB

Sorry Bono i'm not sure what that Ewok's list is, either. The only list i know about is the Igor's list. I really like the way the new one looks.

Hello everyone,
I sent the I129-F packet on December 30, 2008. Can I post in this forum or is it too close to January for me to be here? They received it on 1/2/09 and the check was cashed today, 1/8/09. What number should I look for on the back of the check in order to check online? Thank you.

Jenay

Hello JLP9576, Congrats on sending of your package and getting your check cashed. kicking.gif Hang on NOA1 is on the way. You are welcome to post on this thread if you like, it's all up to you. I say the more the merrier. Now the number you need behind the check is your case receipt number it should start with EAC......... with 9 digits after that. Then you can go to USCIS.GOV, click on case status online and register.

Very Interesting, thanks for that information Xaenyth. It's a little reassuring to see that they do have some kind of written procedure that should be followed, even though things doesn't seem that way sometimes.

I know patience goes a long way. biggrin.gif I'm trying to practice more of that myself.

You being the beneficiary, I dont really know what else you can do to prepare for your NOA2, i'm not sure what the embassy in Philippines requires, but maybe someone in here can give you some feedback or you can post that question in the phil. forum.

All my fiance is doing now is waiting..., getting his medical & vaccine records together and trying to figure out which paper work he need to get from his college, so he can get his credits converted when he comes to the states.

NatPatBen Congrats. I used the date that i received it in the mail also.

Hello everyone, glad I found this thread, it will enable us to ask loads and loads of questions during this long process. We sent off our package on December 15th and arrived in Vermont on the 20th. We are just now waiting for confirmation on NOA1, we paid by money order with the USPS but I don't think there is anyway we can check to see if it has gone through.

We will keep everyone updated!

Welcome! Yah, i dont think there is a way to track money orders so u probably just have to wait till you get your NOA1 in the mail. I'm waiting for mine also, it's taking a little bit too long.

Dave - I've done the journal thing....doesn't help me at all.

I know the soda's was a huge thing. I've cut down on everything else...eating lots of salads...veggies....fruits...cut out most of my sweets...it'll get there but I just have so much I need to lose.

I agree with Maire - you have a great start here! Do you mind if I ask, did you look at your journal and try to figure out what "trouble spots" you might have? Do you drink juice? Just like soda, juice is *packed* with Carbs and calories. Like my doctor explained to me, one small orange has ~12 or so carbs (including about 2.5g of fiber and 1g protein) and about 45 calories, not squeeze out all the juice (and most of the calories/carbs) of 10 of them and put them into a glass and that is what you are drinking. 8oz of fresh juice has about 38g of Carbs and 121 calories (and some fruit juices even *add* sugar!). My reason for a food journal is not to keep it forever, but just for you to use to look if there are frequent items that may have an impact. This helped me some, but whatever works for you...

No matter what, you have a great start - if you lose 5lb/month (not too far from what you have done already) and can keep it up for 6 months, there goes 30 pounds!

rofl.gif Only on this thread can we go from discussing weight loss to men in thongs..LOL!!

Maire - Thanks for the words of wisdom....I am going to take your advice and wait a bit longer with the pills.

D_n_M - I actually think having you as my personal trainer would do me wonders. I need someone to scream at me and make my butt get motivated. I don't have much will power but I love a challenge. As for Jenny Craig and Slim Fast...I've used slim fast and not seen any results. I was also on Weight Watchers with pretty much the same thing. I need...and will!...to exercise! I've had some set backs mostly with the knee surgery but I'm getting back on track.

Richard - I am like you...I start in the middle and work my way out...lol!

Thanks everyone for all your input and advise. It's necessary sometimes to get an outside perspective of things to see them clearly. I did see some results lately that frankly I'm shocked with.....between the first appointment on April 30th with my doctor about this whole Asthma thing and yesterday I've lost 6 pounds. Not sure how since I've not been exercising. The one thing I have done and been able to stick to...I completely cut out all soda's...even diet ones. I now only drink lemon water or tea (unsweet or sweetened with artifical sweetner). That is a HUGE accomplishment for me..lol!

6lbs is a great start. I think you may have explained some of your weight loss already. One can of coke is 140calories. If you had 1/day, you would have ~1000 calories less per week.

I would echo something though...if you don't find the "Jenny Craig"/"Slim Fast"/"Weight Watchers" very appealing, it is hard to stick to them. If you don't stick to them and substitute your "normal meal" for them or add in bad snacks, they won't help you. Also agree with regards to drugs etc...only use them if other changes are still not working.

If you want to attack the nutritional side, start reading the labels for everything you buy and eat and drink. Get a small notebook/journal and write *everything* you eat in it with the nutritional values (you can find them for most foods on the internet, private message me and I can send you some links when I dig them up). Use the journal and labels to try to reduce calories and avoid "bad foods". You can use this information to improve things and to get in the habit of understand the choice you make as you buy/order food.

From what i understand and have experienced there is a window that will allow a woman to lose weight quickly after giving birth. As soon as she is healthy enough to start working out, her metabolism is working fast at that time, she can lose quickly and easily. But that is not a rule of thumb for all woman. The body chemistry and a good recovery plays an important factor.

Any man in a thong is just wrong! IMHO... but I'm a guy! ohmy.gif

LOL!!

Ok..I have a question....everyone here is in a LOT better shape than I am but I'm working on it. I talked to my doctor yesterday and will be starting on Alli (weight loss pills) on Thursday. I'm walking 2 miles a day but i want to try something else as well....BUT...I have to be careful because I had knee surgery back in October and I still can't do a lot of things. Anyone have any suggestions???

You've gotten some good advice here already, but maybe I can offer some more (for good or bad). Losing weight is something that I have *had* to do since being diagnosed with Diabetes. I can now fit into clothes that I "outgrew" and have not fit into for the last 20 years (still need to lose another 10-20 though).

Overall remember to do what you can to address all of the aspects, mental, nutritional, and physical (exercise).

Mentally, don't fuss over a number on a scale. Weight will go up or down daily with all the intake and outtake and scales are less accurate than they appear. If you gain some weight, don't panic, it may be that your body is adding muscle more which weighs more while it is losing fat. Also keep working to manage your health and "habits" instead of 5-10 pounds. You can be healthy and a little overweight or "normal" weight and unhealthy. Also if you miss a day of exercise, or "splurge" don't let it affect your outlook - everyone has good days and bad, but you have the choice to let what you did yesterday affect your outlook for today - so just let it be yesterday and focus on what you can today. Also, don't forget you can make this a social thing as well - find someone to work out with (until your SO arrives, then you will have the "right" someone to "work out with" wink.gif.

Nutritionally, i would be careful with your Carbohydrate intake. I think everyone should. I was amazed what minimizing this did for my energy and hunger control. Eating Carbs can make you eat more than you would otherwise. I am not a fanatic about this - some Carbs are fine, (Atkins or something like that may be a bit overkill), but the average American's diet probably has 2-3 times the Carbs needed. Remember too that Carbs are "burned" first, and excess easily stored as Fat. You will get more "lasting" energy from protein. Watch your portions - you can use a nutritional scale if you want to be fanatic. Too much of a good this is a bad thing.

Physically, just try to get more exercise. You said you walk 2 miles a day, which is a great start. Try to get 3 miles a day, at least on weekends. Get a pedometer and track it that way and try to add 10% more in. Park at the far end of the parking lot and walk in, walk to the store (if you can). You can also try walking with some weights, mabye 5-10 lbs per arm and working your arms while you walk. Do some weight training - this can help your muscles burn more calories even at rest (work on your upper body to spare your knees). I am 150% with the swimming idea - don't worry about a free pool - look for community or gym with a pool, maybe that lets you pay by the day. So what if you spend $50/month to be happier and healthier! How about going kayaking/canoeing? Now *that* is a serious workout that for you arms.

No matter what, don't lose faith in yourself. Get exercise as you can, try to stay healthy. It sounds like you have been doing some great things for yourself already.

After the last few weeks of nothing happening we were getting pretty frustrated so this is such a blessing. We got our NOA 1 on the 2nd of Feb so 3 and a half months is amazing. I wish all the other Feb VSC filers the best of luck. Cheers, Chris x x

Congratulations Chris and Julie! It is so great to hear a Feb VSC filer get an approval! It seems there have been a few approvals starting to trickle out (via post) and I hope this is a sign of a flood to come over the next couple weeks.

Thanks for sharing your great news and I hope NVC and USEM are equally as quick!

i just read the HB-1 season update. There are about 45000 applications that came in for the 2010 season. The cap is 65000. I would assume that there are reps that take care of certain types of visas. Otherwise I think all the other types will have a lag in processing. Only time will tell, and right now time is the enemy!

I do not disagree with anything you, or Dave and Jenny or D n M has said. I know I will get flamed for this, and do not misunderstand I am as anxious as anyone else here to have the incredibly slow process move forward. I just think we have put too much faith into Igor’s list, which is only an estimate, and because of the fluctuations, such as the HB-1, constantly changes. I do not even look at it any longer. I am not sticking up for the sluggish work at the VSC, I think it is pathetic, but their date for our process is 6 months, which sadly at this time almost seems more accurate than Igor’s list….please I want to be proven wrong so much, I want Igor’s list to be the more accurate of the two. Sadly I do not think that is the case.

Greg

Well, I do not worry much about Igor's list or the "timeline". I was commenting on the approvals as reported here. If you chart the last 2000 K1 approvals reported here (that is back to like Oct 2007), you will see the seasonal drop off in April/May/June. This year looks like May will be a record low *as reported by folks here*. I hope it is short lived.
