My reaction was like that too!! At first I was afraid to get too excited because I thought it might be an rfe.
But then I was running around jumping and screaming omg! omg! omg!
When I called Johan I was talking soooo fast "we're approveeeeeeeed"!!

Yeah, well I was crying and Josue thought something was wrong, he said his heart dropped to his feet when he heard me call him crying, but then it registered to him what I was saying lol.

You got and sent your packet 3 really quick - how did they send it to you? Do you have your interview date yet? Guatemala doesn't send a packet 3, they send the interview date, approved doctors, forms, etc. all at one time but we are concerned about him not receiving the packet 4 due to the way addresses are down there. His address is "such-n-such avenue, in front of the Catholic Church," so as long as the mail carrier recognizes the name, he'll be fine. Otherwise, it may end up at any of the many other homes/business that are in front of the Catholic Church. Also, did you reach the embassy by email? We are planning on emailing the embassy today in hopes that they will tell us how they send the package - via national mail or Express, so he can go directly to the post office and hopefully they can keep an eye out for his package. Any ideas are welcome! Don't wanna come this far only to have things messed up!!!

I've had a bad cold for the past two days too!

Well you and I are both teachers so no wonder we are sick dead.gif My mom has the same thing and I just saved a $15 copay by asking her what I needed to get at the pharmacy. I bought store brand of Robitussin cough medicine, sudafed, and Chlor-Trime something-or-other, oh, and tissues and cough drops. I get headaches often, but rarely do I feel like I do now - that my face is going to fall off. It's the weirdest thing, ME NO LIKEY!!!! Hope you get better soon!!!

Thank you everyone for your benedictions. I hope that those still waiting receive theirs this coming week, which seems quite probable in light of how many petitions have been approved this past week.

It was great telling my fiancée. "Honey, guess what I received today?"
"You got my sweater?"
"Yes! It was sitting outside my apartment when I got home. It fits great. I love it. Thank you."
"Your welcome. I am so glad you like it. I wish I could see you in it."
"Oh, and we got NOA2 as well."
"What? Really?"
"Yes."
"Wow! I'm so happy."

It made her day. Anything that brightens her day is ok by me.

Your's was a lot calmer than I was. I was on the phone with my mom and went to check the mail, not really expecting anything important, and I see something from USCIS. I rudely interrupted my mom and said "OMG I got a letter from the citizenship people" and almost dropped the dog's leash and the phone while I was shaking and trying to open it. I opened it nicely halfway, then got frustrated and ripped the envelope, looking for "Approval Notice" vs. "Request For Evidence," which I was fully expecting! Then I started saying "OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG we got approved!" then immediately started crying and I mean not just tears of joy, but bawling, hyperventilating, etc. My mom kept saying "Chelsea, I'm happy for you, it's ok" and I just said "I gotta call Josue, I gotta go, I gotta go call Josue." The timing worked out perfectly because he had just gotten in the house and he was on his motorcycle before so he wouldn't have been able to hear me well. He said "hello" and I was crying "They approved us! We got approved! I have the letter right here in my hand, the first touch was an approval!" and he started with the "OMG" and the "Really?" and it was Friday at 4:55pm EST, so I said "I gotta go call NVC in case they close at 5" and I called (btw, they are open til midnight EST but I do think it's only M-F) and this guy named Clark asked for receipt number, petitioner's name, birthdate, and beneficiary's name, birthdate, confirmed my email, and asked for Josue's. Then gave me the case number and said "It looks like it already left for Guatemala on the 25th." Then afterwards I called Josue to find out what his family had said when he told them, then my mom called me back to see if I was ok, etc. But it was a good day - almost forgot I was sick! This morning my headache reminded me blush.gif

But you all hang in there, you will all get your approvals very soon. It is a feeling without compare and I wish it upon all of you! Now to figure out what's next wacko.gif

Chelsea,
Thanks for this info about the flight. I have heard of Spirit and I think they do fly out of Managua. I hear of people flying into Miami. I have enough sky miles with Delta but I could save those for a few domestic flights. I may look into it. So do you think you will get through the process in enough time to go in April and return with your man....I think so. Congratulations again!

Yea, Spirit gives nothing fancy, no movie, nothing free (bring a credit card if you want a coke or some chips), but they are the only ones I have seen who actually have one way tickets significantly cheaper than round trip. But again, they don't fly into that many places to the US, but DC has worked out for me several times since it's only 3 hours away from where I live. I know if you are planning to use your Delta skymiles, it's as much for a 1 way as it is for a round trip, so you might wanna save those for a RT visit ticket later!!! Just a suggestion, I am saving skymiles too and hope by next summer we can have at least 1 free ticket to go visit his family!

I sure hope he will be able to return with me in April and I'm actually kinda nervous that the interview might be before I arrive so I won't be able to bring the papers, I'll have to mail them and that makes me SUPER nervous - I don't want to risk losing originals of my birth certificate, divorce decree, and a scrapbook I'm working on! But if the interview is while I am there that will be the best timing ever!!!

Best wishes to all who are still waiting - VSC approved 52 this week!!!!! Keep it up good.gif and we'll all be talking about the interview/travel arrangements soon!!!!! kicking.gif

WE GOT APPROVEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!

This has been the best support group I could have asked for, except for my fiance of course. Couldn't have found anyone else who understood us this much!!!!! This has been such a long wait and of course there is another step to go but thank you all so much for your support! I'm not going away, don't worry. I hope to be in here for the long run!!!!!!

By the way it was approved on 2/19, the day of the first touch, with no letter of intent from Josue, and forwarded from NVC to Guatemala City 2/25!!

I see that October has reached 50%. That was fast but now I am going bonkers. I am excited and the edge of my seat waiting. Who knows?! Good Luck today everyone! It sounds like there are a lot of teachers here. I miss my students in New York. I am looking forward to getting back to the Art Room once I am finished with this journey.

Where are you in the meantime? Are you in Nicaragua???

And yes, it did reach 50% pretty fast! Hopefully they won't start with too many Novembers til they get through most of October!

Yes, I am in Nicaragua teaching English and studying Spanish. I wanted to spend some time with my man before he came to the States. I figured being around me 24/7 would be one last thing he would have to adjust to once he was in the states. If we hear soon we may be able to get through the process and he could return with me at the end of March. If not I will return and hopefully come back to do the interview and fly back with him. I do not want him to be alone. I was thinking we would hear soon but now I have this feeling that it may be longer. Either way we are in it for the long haul and we will take it as it comes. I sure hope you hear soon. It must be so hard to focus on work. Do your students know what your dealing with? Mine where always so nosy. 'Hey Miss you look tired'...'Hey Miss something wrong?'...'Hey Miss you got a man?'
I am sending you NOA2 vibes...

LOL, oh yeah they're nosey. They are always asking "Is Josue here yet?" haha, they know nothing about the visa process and don't understand why he's not here yet. Shoot, what can I say? Before embarking on this process I didn't know anything about the visa process either and even now that I do I still don't understand why it takes so long lol...

Thanks for the vibes, and I send them back to you. It would be awesome to be able to bring him home with you, I'm going April 9-19 and I was hoping there was a chance he may be able to return with me, but it doesn't look like that will work out. Spirit Air (www.spiritair.com) flies pretty cheap and goes to Guatemala, might go to Managua if you wanna check it out. But...it only flies to some major cities in the US so it depends, but he'll most likely fly to DC (about 3 hours from me) but a one way ticket midweek is only $210 after taxes...that's for May.

Wow! Congrats on the pregnancy, job, etc. Josue's GC got approved 11/23 without an interview, so we are waiting for it in the mail. We also bought a second vehicle last Saturday, so it's a lot easier now with us both working. And...we booked a 3 night cruise for January (found a deal on Travelzoo) to the Bahamas to celebrate.

Hadn't checked this forum in a while! Looks like everyone is pretty much in the US now...Josue got a job the end of October and has already been moved from part time to full time within the same company! He also got his GED, his VA Drivers License, and is still taking English lessons. This Friday we will have been married for 7 months and we are still so happy! Still waiting on his green card...we are one of three pairs (I think) that filed in June and were transferred to CSC, still haven't been approved but we're hopeful.

We're still waiting for an interview date. It's been over a month, and they just released the new interview schedule through June 20th and we're not on it. I emailed the embassy, they confirmed they have received our Packet 3 and told us to wait our turn. There is still a possibility that we shall get an interview before June 20th. We're wondering whether the wedding shall happen on our scheduled date or whether it will happen at all this summer. Of course we're confident that everything shall work out, just perhaps not precisely as we've planned.

Though I am very excited to see her, my biggest concern is for our wedding guests; the friends and family whom I have invited but also warned "Don't book your tickets just yet, because this process is a bit unpredictable." They've all followed my advice, yet I really want to come through for them by having it on that date and for all of them to be there.

My father said, "What I don't like is how they can make you wait and wait indefinitely, but they only give you 90 days to marry from entering the US. How can they expect you to make all those plans in such a short time period?" I didn't tell my father that the beneficiary may wait upto six months before leaving for America, but even then nine months isn't much time in the scheme of wedding planning: Some couples plan two years out and this is less than a year.

That's what I get for marrying a foreign wife! Of course she's worth every single moment of it and I've found this process to strengthen our relationship significantly. Oh, as an aside, I graduated from Johns Hopkins two nights ago. It felt great to wrap up and fitting to move from a Bachelor to a Master, thus making me eligible to wed. Once she gets here and settled in, we'll both probably start our Ph.D.'s together. Mr. & Mrs. Doctor Doctor.

I hope you get your interview date soon. And Mr. & Mrs. Doctor Doctor - so cute!

What do you mean??? That's not possible! Don't get down - if you have the I-797 in hand "Approval Notice" then you are approved...of course, that's just the petition. Then it goes to NVC then to the consulate/embassy in your country. Can you explain more what he said?

Hi everyone,
My Fiancee just got the medical exam done this week. Designated panel physician has informed her that the result is all good. What's next after medical? Would the embassy inform us that she pass the medical or we need to call the embassy to ask about it?
Thanks everyone!

It is Embassy specific, but surely the embassy doesn't have access to the medical results. You will need to let them know that her medical is finished and most likely take the results to the interview.

QUOTE (ThaitoUSA @ May 11 2009, 11:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Some hospitals have been known to send the results directly to the embassy, though they are most often carried by the beneficiary.

Thanks everyone for your replies!
called the physician, they have sent the result directly to the embassy already. For now just preparing all docs to be brought to interview.hopefully by next week she gets the interview and visa!!
thanks everyone..God bless us all.

I apologize for the misinformation. I had no idea some doctors send the results directly to the embassy.

Glad to see some movement still - I'm working on the papers for the AOS, it just doesn't seem like we have time! We are closing on our house in 2 weeks (and moving that following weekend), and we just got a puppy! She's a black and tan dachshund named Bella smile.gif

We put all the stuff we thought they might ask for as far as supporting evidence, originals from the I-129F packet, etc. in clear plastic sleeves in a 3-ring binder, and then put all the stuff they specifically said in packet 4 to bring in a manila folder, multiple-page documents stapled but duplicates paper-clipped together. (such as the DS-156 and 157 were 3 and 2 pages respectively, we stapled those together but they wanted 2 copies of each so we clipped them together)

As far as the house, there's only 1 bathroom sad.gif As Josue says at least there is a fan in the bathroom for the bad smells hahaha

Congrats!!! I am about to take Balvino to his ESL class. I told him last night he needs to talk more. That is great Josue is jumping in with two feet. Balvino is doing well it takes time. I am so glad that I will have a buddy with the AOS process. I have put it on hold until I get back from NYC plus the wedding has taken over my brain at the moment.

Glad things went well!!

Things have gone extremely smooth through this whole process, so much so that I'm scared something wrong is going to happen very soon! He met my mom yesterday and that went well, my brother showed some videos he had transferred onto the computer of me when I was little and Josue liked those. We are going to see my dad next weekend, and he is learning a little bit of Spanish so hopefully that will go well also.

I have some translation work to do for Friday, but then we will be doing the paperwork for the AOS. We are also waiting for the official copy of the marriage license which I imagine should arrive by next week sometime. When are you going to NYC?

I know the feeling. Balvino and I had such a great experience with the transition that I was waiting for something to go wrong. My Brother told me I had a bad attitude:)
I am glad things are going well. You deserve it.

We are heading to NYC today for about 5 days. Balvino is very excited and my friends are dying to meet him...I hope they behave themselves. There is a new restaurant in the LES that is run by a Nicaraguan women. The menu looks great so I am hoping to go tonight.

I have a friend here in Boston that has offered to translate Balvino's birth certificate. Can he translate the document and then get it notarized or should I use a professional service...any suggestions? I am looking forward to getting the paperwork done.

Good Luck Lovesponge!!!! Keep us posted.

Thanks to all who congratulated us! We are very happy to *finally* be together!

Karen, have fun in NYC! That restaurant sounds great - hope it's authentic!

From what I understand, translating doesn't have to be professional. It just has to say the spiel "I am competent of _________language and English, etc." it's here on VJ, just VJ google translation and it should come up. I plan on translating Josue's BC.

That's one thing to suggest to those who are soon going for interview/POE - make sure you get an extra copy of your BC before you come back here so you won't have to pay to get it shipped when you are ready to file AOS. At our interview, they kept the copy Josue had, so we had to go get another one. Fortunately, it's a 15 minute and about $.75 process, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

Hey everyone, Hope you're all well! Well I rang the NVC today and was told that our petition was approved on the 7th of April, the NVC received it on the 9th and sent it to the Embassy in London on the 13th!!!! Gave the American Embassy in London a call and they said that yes they had received it and I should be hearing from them any day now!!!! Wow only last week Mike rang the USCIS to be told they were working on Sept the 23rds petitions and that he needed to be patient rofl.gif Seeing as we never received a email, update on the website or hardcopy NOA2 the NVC were able to gve me the date we were approved so I have just updated my timeline. What a difference a day makes people!!!! Hope you are all well M x

That's great! Sometimes it's better to find it all out after the fact instead of stressing out about each step. That happened to us too, since we got just got the NOA2 hardcopy and no email confirmation. By the time we got a hardcopy, it had already been through NVC and arrived at the Embassy in Guatemala the same day I found out the petition got approved. Everything from here on out goes faster! Smooth sailing, everyone! good.gif

Thanks! I hope your stuff gets where it needs to be very soon!!!

He's so cute learning and practicing a little bit of english. Last night at the restaurant after asking me if it was right he said "Excuse me sir, the check please." I'm so proud of him for practicing so soon! When I was so "young" in learning Spanish I was too nervous to use it with native speakers!

They're off being cute and marital.

Hahahah if only! I'm at work right now but yes everything went smoothly, we got married yesterday at 4:00 EST. We had an interpreter to translate what the judge said. Then we went to a romantic restaurant here in town and had a big steak dinner and a glass of wine. We were still tired from the travelling, but we are now official.

Mr. & Mrs. Cacerez!!

Thanks for the well wishes guys and I'm not on here quite as much but we will be doing the AOS papers as soon as possible so I will still be in and out. I guess we'll be applying for his SSN in the next week or two.

Hope everyone is well!

We now have the Visa in hand!!!!!

The interview went great, other than watiting to actually be called to the window. Our appt was for 8am, we arrived around 5:30am - the driver we had hired thought there was going to be more traffic. Even arriving so early, we were #6 in line in the immigrant visa section. Around 7:45am a man came around looking for 8am appointments and we were the first with an 8am appointment, so then we got to be #1 in line. We then entered the building and waited to be called. At 9:05am we were called to window #6 and a Guatemalan woman took Josue's passport and all the papers - DS-156, -157, birth certificate, police records, etc. We then went back to waiting, and close to 10am an American woman called us to window #7. Josue had to raise his right hand and swear to tell the truth and that everything written in the papers were true and then took his fingerprints (digital). Then she asked in Spanish how we met, but she looked straight at me. I said in English "Do you want me to answer?" She said "Sure" so I answered in English. Then she asked him if he spoke English, and he said "a little" so she just started talking to me in English hahaha. She never even asked him anything else. She asked how we communicate when I am in the US, how I learned Spanish, and asked to see some pictures. I had an album that didn't fit beneath the window, so I showed her through the window and stopped every couple pictures, explaining what was going on, she said "Can you go a little faster?" lol. For the communication part, I had phone records but didn't show them to her - but I told her what service I use (Jajah) and she asked if we had emails. I showed her just a screenshot of Yahoo Messenger chats that showed different dates with the two of us talking. She said she was glad I was there to talk to her in English - she didn't seem very sure of her Spanish.

Then she wrote on a piece of paper Tuesday 3:30 to come pick up the K1 visa. I asked if it was at all possible to get it earlier since Pana is 3 hours in bus from the Embassy, she said there was no way because of the processing it took to print. I asked for the original of my divorce decree since it was the only one I have and didn't want any problems with getting married here. I gave her a copy, she wrote "Original" something-or-other on the copy and gave me my original back.

He returned today to get it - they called all who had sheets to pick up passports in at one time, then called him by name to give him his passport & the envelope to take to the POE. We are very tired - him even more because he had an extra 6 hours in bus today, but we are happy and are now searching for tickets.

Those who haven't yet had their interview, I think it made a difference because I went and I recommend it if it is at all possible for you. Of the maybe 20 or so that we waited with yesterday, only about 7 entered to pick up their passports today. We were well prepared - our embassy didn't even ask for proof like photos but we are very glad we brought them anyway. You should be fine as long as all the paperwork is in order and you have a real relationship, as I know all of you here in the Oct forum do.

Thank you for all the support, sorry I kept some of you waiting lol. We are very happy and will be returning to the US on Sunday...together!!!!

Glad to hear things are still moving along! I am at TGI Fridays in the Atlanta airport waiting for my burger and then my flight in about an hour. I've never been to ATL and it's huge, so I found my concourse first and then looked for F O O D!

Everyone have a great day and I will probably not be on until after the interview...(insert nail biting smiley here)

Thanks for all the good wishes, guys! Although none of you technically helped with paperwork, you have all still been an EXCELLENT support system throughout all this and I really feel like I would have struggled through the waiting game a lot more without you all.

Beans, congrats! It's a wonderful feeling - wake him up to share it with him!

Dusseldorf, hope you hear something soon. There are always a few that fall through the cracks, unfortunately, but they will get handled eventually! Check out the 6+ months forum for some extra support, maybe some ideas of who to contact, and most importantly encouragement as there are ones who get their approvals in that forum too!

There hasn't been a WHOLE lot of movement around here lately, I guess people are in the interim waiting for their interviews.

ThaitoUSA, where are you? Did you finish up your master's classes??????

I am packing, will be leaving to drive to the airport around 1am tomorrow night/Thursday morning, then the interview is on Monday! I'm so ready for this part to be over to bring Josue back with me! Hopefully then we can get the ball rolling on the AOS stuff - so much to do!! wacko.gif Well, guess I should get back to packing. I can waste hours here on VJ!

Laura, I am sad and happy for you at the same time. I have read much worse reasons here on VJ for why people end their journeys, and really your's isn't and end but just a detour. Good for you both for being mature enough to make such a decision now and I wish you both the best. rose.gif

You guys are cracking me up with the cereal for dinner. I have yet to met a man that doesn't like cereal for dinner. My older brother turned my on to the idea. Balvino is the second guy I have lived with and it is fun but don't be afraid to spend time alone. We are lucky to have two bathrooms so he uses the downstairs and I have the upstairs. I read an article about June and Johnny Cash and they say this helped with the space issue. Try to find a place you can be alone, even if it means going to the library. Beware of putting on weight. I always think 'lets grab a bite', 'lets make dinner'...at first everything evolves around food and the next thing you know you have put on 15 pounds. I keep saying this but I hear the first year is the hardest. It sounds like everyone is willing to do the work and that seems to be what makes or breaks a relationship....from my experience. It is all so exciting!

That's true - milk doesn't sit too well with Josue but he still likes cereal for an afternoon snack - he thinks it's worth it LOL! The bathroom idea is good - I'll have to keep that in mind with our house shopping! A lot of the older ones that are more in our price range, brick, in established neighborhoods, etc., have only 1 BR!!

About the food - very true also. Not a day passes when we don't ask each other what we have eaten, if we're hungry, etc., and we're always talking about going out together or cooking together, etc. But the good thing is that I am in love with my best friend and I'm sure that all of you are too!!!

Winifred, do you know how to tortillar? And good to know about the Spanish-speakers in Atlanta. I know in Fort Lauderdale even the announcements were repeated in Spanish, so I hope Atlanta is similar. SO MUCH TO DO!! girlwerewolf2xn.gif

I'm worried about finally moving in with Jeremy. I mean don't get me wrong I love the s**t out of him but there's the little things. Like Sex and the City with single secret behaviours. And I've never lived with a boyfriend or anything of that magnitude and I like personal space so its going to be something that everyone has get used to.

Beans, I sympathize with your situation because I'm used to living by myself now - or before with my mom, and if I wanted to go out with my friends I just petty much told her. Basically, it goes from doing your own thing, eating cereal for dinner, etc., to having that "other half" to always think about when making decisions. It is tough, and nearly all newlyweds go through it. The good thing about being in a LD relationship is that you talk...A LOT. It is to the point now where Josue can tell just by how I say "hello" when I answer the phone what kind of mood I'm in. You two both speak English, but I know in my situation it has been a big help to learn how to express myself in a second language without gestures, signals, pointing, etc.

I wish you all the best in your "new" relationships!

Atlanta was very easy for us and we only had a 2 hour layover. Between Balvino and the cat I was pretty worried but we were fine. Balvino says that most of the questions were in English but the guy spoke a bit of Spanish as well. Balvino is doing well. He does complain about the cold a little. The reviews of Atlanta on VJ are pretty good. Keep us posted I am so excited for you.

Hmmm, well Josue doesn't understand or speak much English at all, but usually in international airports like that there are always ones who speak Spanish. I do feel bad for all the countries - Russia, MENA, China, etc. - if the visa-holder doesn't speak English, b/c Spanish is at least a little more common to find someone to translate. On the flight I have been watching we will have a 3.5 hour layover, hopefully it will be enough time for us to grab a bite too. I've always connected at Fort Lauderdale, so I don't know anything about Atlanta. Hopefully we can find something in that time!

I will keep you all posted - I still have 11 days til the interview, and I assure you once the visa is in hand we will be in the internet b/c we will be searching for flights!
