IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresInterview Experience
I just had my interview yesterday and it seemed to be fine. ^_^

Here's my story. The Indian prescreener took my fingerprints, my passport, medical results, & our photos together. Ask few questions like, who petitioned me, the date of our marriage, where she lives, who are in the photos, where was the photo taken, what is my job here, how much is my salary. Then he asked me to go back to seat and wait for the CO to call me.

After about an hour an a half, the CO called my name. He verified my fingerprints, then ask me to sign under oath the part II of the DS-230. Then he started to ask me questions like, what is my wife's name, how old is she, where she lives, how long have she been there, what is her job, how did she get to the US, if she has any relatives in the US. :reading: He also ask me what is my job here, if what job am i going to take once I get to the US, if i applied for any job in the US already, if I have any relatives in US. He also asked how did we meet, when did we get married, how long we've been staying together, when was the last time we're together, do we have any children, or been married before.

So far that were the questions I can remember that the consul asked me. It took us about 10 minutes in the interview. He finally asked, if my visa will be approved when am I planning to go to the US? After that he took a purple card with a serial no. & a text "pickup passport date" then he stamped the date January 30, 2010. Then he told me to go back to seat & wait for my name to be called. After a minute, the prescreener called my name, give me the purple slip then asked me to go to fedex and return back the air waybill.

Not like the other vj'ers, I never heard the magic word, "Congratulations!" or "approved" from the consul. Then when I returned back the air waybill, I asked the prescreener if I'm approved. He just said "Yes!". ..then I went home.

That's all I can share for now. I am hoping that my visa will be delivered very soon. I just can't wait to be with my ONE GREAT LOVE!

Goodluck to all those with upcoming interviews! Just keep praying...and it will all turn out fine.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOffically a LPR in USA
It's been a while since my last post. I've been enjoying my time with my wife. I arrived here in the US last Feb. 16, and also waiting for greencard & SSN. We tried to apply for a learner's permit but the DMV is asking for at least 2 valid US ID's, but I only have one, the visa in my passport. :( I also wanted to start applying for work, but I'm not sure how am I going to do it without my SSN or green card.

And by the way, I think there is an option on the forms we filled up during the visa processing about the SSN application, and I marked it YES, do I have to apply again in person or just wait till they mail it to me? Thanks again.

Oh gosh, I am sooo sorry that happend to you ..... What A-holes... But if it is any consolation, it is a very good sign that they kept your passport and got your cell number... If they did not intend to issue the visa, they would have given you the passport back. Chin up... Keep strong and have belief that it will work out... That is all that you can do at the moment... Give them a few days to verify all the stuff and look through everything and I think you will get your visa!!!!

Fiaz, Yes I COMPLETELY agree with this.....so stay positive and tell Brenda "NO tears" cray5ol.gif and I pray your AP goes by smoothly and quickly Inshallah wub.gif you will be with your love soon. I hate they acted so horrible but these things are challenges to test you. I truly believe everything will work out fine since they did keep your passport and took the number. You have to look at the positive things and try to not let the negative things bring you down. innocent.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresUpdating timeline info
Hello all,

I was just approved for my NOA2 for K-1 on March 16th when I went to go check the timelines I noticed that my info was not there for others to see. I then remembered when I filled out my timeline and tried to put in the beneficaries country I could not find Mexico so it defaulted to Armenia. For some reason Mexico is not in alphabetical order but is the very last country listed. For those of you who do not see you info listed under the timelines do you mind seeing if you have the right country listed as I would love to follow cases approved before mine to follow how long things are taking for others.

Thanks,

Jessica

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-157 FORM HELP

I did have the same problem and I still need to fill that one. My interview is going to be next month. So if anyone know i will appreciate too. Thanks

So it appears what we were attempting to file out was the new DS-160 which I thought was replacing the DS-157, however I found this save enabled link in another post.

Hopefully someone can help in responding if this is the correct form to fill out

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow much is your phone bill?

My fiancé's last phone bill was $800

We do talk a lot though, I think it was about an average of six hours a day on the phone.

We do talk every day via facebook when he's at work and then every night we're on yahoo messenger and web cam....

We just need to upgrade his sound card so that we can talk via skype now!

I think the card should be a no brainer versus an $800 bill!?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow much is your phone bill?
We try to use Skype when possible but since I am on the go constantly, I found a specialized calling card for Africa from Locus that gives you 1 hour 13 minutes for $5. Vonage is my backup but a bit more to use. Its about the same as Skype-Out. So, we talk at least an hour a day, and 2-3 hours Saturday and Sundays when my cell has no surcharge to the access number. The cards really help to control the cost because we could go on and on for hours otherwise and Vonage will grab the money out of your account every $100 immediately but I can at least meter out the money on the cards. We spend nearly $300/month yaking and I eat a lot of pasta when she's in Kenya to help the budget. I miss my Sweetie (can you tell?) :crying:

Hi,

Does anyone have similar experience? I am a US citizen but my wife in a foreign national. Can I petition for I-130 while my wife is here in the states? We want to get married under the foriegn law. My plan is to have my wife come here with me when I go overseas to get married there and she would come with me to the US on a tourist visa which she already has a visa. She is currently pregnant and we would like to have the child born here in the US. While she is here, I plan to petition for K3, starting with filing I-130. I know that eventually she has to go back to her home country to receive K3 visa overseas. But due to our particular situation, we just want to be reunited and have the baby born here. Then she can go back and start filing for K3.

I know that there are steps in filing K3
I-130
waiting for NOS
Filing I-129

etc...

Appreciate your help and advise.

Thanks,
Tom

You say she is your wife but you also say you want to get married.? If you are married you can file a 130 now. You may want to look over the differences in K 3 & C R 1 visas. The C R 1 is a better visa. Study the guides.
There is no chance that she will be given a tourist visa. Read & understand the " strongest ties" rule . The embassy told me they would view a applicants strongest ties to her spouse as soon as she entered the USA & therefore she would have no reason to return to Thailand. Every applicant is presumed to be attempting to become an immigrant.
A pregnate women entering the USA to have a baby is never going to convince them she will return.

Sorry dont know how to fix my mistake of double post.

Sorry I should have said my girlfriend. By the time in Thanksgiving we will be legally married under Thai law. She already has a toursit visa which is valid for 10 years. Last time she was here was in March this year and she went back in July which we found out that she is pregnant.

All we are hoping for is the POE will allow her entry with a maximum 6 months stay as a tourist visa for the baby to be born here. Hopefully we can file for one more extension of a tourist visa if needed. It is our intention for her to be in the US as long as the tourist visa will allow and she will remain in legal status the whole time when she is in US. While she is in the US, that's when I will start filing either K3 or CR 1 as you suggested and she will go back and wait for a visa in her home country.

Well, that is great news!.. I thought that the last email you got meant that the interview date was the next email you would get in a couple of days, but didn't want to get your hopes up too much because other posters thought that it meant something else entirely.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday and can find some reasonable airfares. (hint flying on Thanksgiving day is usually a bargain and has lots of extra seats on the plane)

Have your spouse go ahead and get medical done as soon as possible so you don't have any hangups with a re-do on a TB test or annoying stuff like that, so you will have time to deal with it. The medical is good for a year I think.

Hi,

10/19 --My wife hasn't received an official package letter from the US embassy Thailand yet. I checked the US Embassy's website and already know the name of the hospital that she can have her medical exam. Wonder if she can go ahead and do this immediately before the documentation has arrived or she has to wait.
Thanks!

Tom,

Sorry you are having so much trouble getting through to NVC. Here is the link again. If it doesn't work this time, go to US Embassy Thailand, click on Immigrant VISA processing, look to the left and see the appointments scheduled link. Click that and see the link for the PDF of the appointment schedule. Currently looks like they only have the October one published. Best of Luck

@brokenfamily Thanks for the visa appointment calendar for BKK embassy.

I also received an email from NVC today. NVC has completed the processing of my wife casefile and it has forwarded the casefile to US Embassy in Bangkok. A visa interview has also been scheduled for her on Nov 19, 2010. So, it is looking good for her to join me by Thanksgiving. (Provided that the visa will be issued just a few days after the interview).

Thanks for all who replied. I never been able to call NVC directly (other than sending NVC Inquiry email). The phone line is ALWAYS busy. I contacted our local congressional office staff to help check the status, and she was kind enough to follow up on our behalf. Seems like they have the separate congressional phone line separate from the general publiclines.

I've come to accept that Thanksgiving will not be possible. I will know by the end of this week from the congressional office if there is an update. I've also checked the website that one of the responders mentioned about the interview schedule but the given link does not seem to work. Since my wife hasn't received any package letter from the US Embassy in Thailand yet, I doubt if I can even check her case status online (maybe I am wrong). Is there a website that you can check the case file starting with the case number BNK####### online?

Thanks again for all the info. I have learned so much from you guys.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPreparation for an Interview at US Embassy --Thailand
Hello,

As a husband petitioner filing for CR-1 for my wife. I just received a letter from NVC yesterday (Oct 6, 2010) stating that.

"All documentation necessary to complete the National Visa Center's processing has been received. As soon as an interview date has been scheduled, the designated representative of this case (applicant, petitioner, or attorney) will be notified. The US Embassy or Consulate General may require additional documentation at the time of the interview."

What is the next step? Will the US Embassy mail a package letter to my wife in Thailand and she needs to get ready for her medical exam? When can she expect to be interviewed at the US embassy? What kind of questions the embassy staff will be asking her?

I am eager to have my wife and a US citizen daughter join me here by Thanksgiving. Is this reasonable expectation?

Thank you all for the info you may have and share.

Well, it is an asset. A letter from an accountant, or whom ever handles the account, stating the net value would be the way to go. The net amount is what is important.

765? You weren't eligible to file, so of course it was denied.

Have her check her correspondence as well, it may be that she already has the approval notice on the I-130 - and if that's the case - NVC is waiting on her to call, to start up NVC processing.
Some Stuff about NVC Processing:
paper processing - http://www.visajourn...he_NVC_ShortCut
electronic processing - http://www.visajourn...onic_Processing

The I-797-C is a general purpose form letter, it can have, as contents:
1. NOA-1 - the receipt notice or
2. NOA-2 the approval notice or
3. RFE, asking for more stuff .

Don't know whose advice she was following, to file the I-765. But do suggest, to tell her, to not follow 'that persons' advice in future. No, I'm not suggesting you follow MY advice at all - but hey - we have all kinds of guides and docs here... Join my Be A Reader™ campaign?

FWIW, no, processing an I-765 won't hurt the I-130 processing, but be prepared to tell a ConOff in Montreal - 'Sorry, I had no idea what to do, she filed it, not knowing anything about it, she got some bad advice from some other person (hand over yer wife's affadavit about it when you say that, btw ) '

This electronic processing looks very complicated to get started. unsure.gif
