some offices act and other could care less, unfortunatly.

good luck on the interview and the rest of your journey

Thanks!

and just for anyone debating writing, it's easy, and I would have never thought that this particular senator or his office would be at all concerned with our puny little K-1, let alone be a proponent of immigration.

Congrats and good to know! I sent an email to my Senator also but mainly just to complain about VSC being sooooooooo much slower than CSC. We'll see if I get a response!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about K1 Visa Fees
Different depending on each Embassy. Best bet is to wait for the Package 3 or 4 for exact details, but in the meantime check out the "Embassy Info" link at the top of the page and look for your particular embassy.

It would be a wise idea to research any of your red flags that might come up at the interview and address them with this petition, along with any material evidence backing your case. If I had to do it over again that is what I would have done. I believe it could have saved me the additional 15 months due to a denial.

That is good advice for those going through the more difficult consulates

What would you consider the more difficult consulates?

we're facing the same problem. We put on our petition that the embassy is Munich,Germany.

Turns out that Munich doesn't do K1 interviews....it has to be in Frankfurt. We haven't done anything about it yet as we don't want to delay the process, but maybe someone has some good advice what to do? Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 / German Birth Certificate
QUOTE (hamburgapples @ Nov 14 2007, 01:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We went through this process recently. My wife (then fiance) showed me the copies and I thought the same thing. I told her that she needed the origional and she said that this was as good as it got as the origional was actually a page in some city ledger book in the town where she was born.
She has(d) a both the plain one and the international but I think we just sent in regular one. We did however send in a translation that my fiance did hersef as well as a self typed certificate of translation.
Let me know and I may be able to post or send you a copy of the cert. of translation.

Hey that would be great! Do you think you can post the translation here?

That would be a great resource for all German folks who are maybe facing the same issue, and obviously I'm not the only one, as you guys ran into the same problem.

Yep, I'll call the Standesamt and will ask for an International Cert,stamped and signed with blue ink (....if they do it), but will also order a regular Birth Certificate, just to be on the safe side, and will send it to the embassy along with the translation....

Thanks again....and CONGRATS to you guys! Alles,alles Gute nachtraeglich zur Hochzeit!!! smile.gif

Hey German folks,

maybe one of you has some advice about this:

I'm currently trying to get my stuff together for Frankfurt embassy, such as police clearances etc. Today I received my International Birth Certificate from the Standesamt, and it just looks like a copy.

The stamp is black, and so is the signature, the person who signed it used black ink.

I'm afraid that I'll be running into a problem at the embassy as an original birth certificate is required,and they might give me a hard time about the fact that the thing looks like a copy.

Should I now call the Standesamt and ask for a Certificate which is signed with blue ink, or what? Plus,I've ordered three certificates (for reserve), one looks worse than the other,and I've already paid for them via Bankeinzug.
I really didn't expect THAT....! tongue_ss.gif

I mean, all three of them really look like bad copies from a really bad copy machine.....

is blue ink a requirement or do you think that one of those I've received is good to go???

Thanks guys!

Personally, I would call the Standesamt and tell them to provide better documents. Tell them the print quality is not acceptable.
You've paid for them - you deserve acceptable products.

(BTW, the international birth certificate is actually a print out - anyway it was in my case a couple of years ago. The stamp was with blue ink. They've given my 3 originals - each with it's own stamp and signature.)

Hi Tweety!

Yup, that's what I will do....you're right!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshelp! online sayd you have been sent a decision!
Laura,

please, don't get all worked up before you know the details of their decision.....be strong and keep the faith.

If the RFE was all about legible copies of a birth cert and final divorce papers there's no valid reason for a denial!
The only reason I can think of is that they didn't receive what they were asking for,and then they would send another RFE,as far as I know....

ok, news on denial...my fiance told the lawyer that if she sent the divoce papers the package must weigh a lot (23 pages), but if it's true that they only received two copies his b c, then the package must weigh a lot less. so the lawyer said it's a great ideea, she now has the proof that she needed. indeed the package with divorce papers weighs 6.6 lbz, and without it 3.3 lbz...well, doing detective work here smile.gif) ok, so, besides that, we are also sending new plane tickets and pics from our recent trip. that's about it, enjoy! ( do you think this might piss uscis off for calling them liars or something?)

Laura,

what a hell of ordeal yo are going through....just try to keep the tone as reasonable and sensible as possible while dealing and trying to work it out with them. Unfortunately you still depend on them, so calling one of the agents a liar might be a bad idea and might have a negative effect, don't you think?

Do not let your lawyer back out of this now....she has to sort this out for you, now...and make sure you watch every little step she makes. Plus, get copies of all document she sends to the Service Center!!!

Good luck and don't give up!

Hi Rahela,

do you speak German? My English is not the best.
I´m Croatian born in Germany and still living here.
Now I´m trying to find someone who´s in such a situation.
I worry because of my croatian passport.
Is there anything I have to take care of while applying for the K1?
Do I need a birth certificate from Germany or Croatia?!?
I feel very insecure and I don´t want to extend the procedure with the K1 because of mistakes.....

Hi there and welcome to VJ!

Hast du schon damit angefangen, die Formulare fuer die petition auszufuellen? Folgender Link ist sehr nuetzlich fuer die I129F petition:

http://www.visajourn...mp;page=k1guide

Thanks for the info!

My fiance called his Congressman's office the other day, too, but didn't get very far. They called VSC on our behalf and got a super-standart answer,basically the same we'd get when we'd call.

Interestingly, calling the Congressman's office actually has helped some people(they've posted here on VJ).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPurchasing a house with my fiance BEFORE we have started the k1 application...
QUOTE (CoolHand @ Jan 26 2008, 09:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My fiance and I are engaged, but as yet we have not begun the k-1 process. We have known each other over 4 years now, but have got to know each other SO much better since May last year. I was there recently for 3 weeks and it was great to spend quality time with each other (a given).

We have been looking to purchase a house for a while now with interest rates being so low. We have found what we believe to be our dream home for a very good price. Both ourselves and the seller have agreed upon the price, but the question I am asking is... before I have received the k1, would this be a problem that we have bought a property for our future life together before I am living in the US?

My fiance has 2 children between the age of 11 and 6 and I just want her to have the best life she can, starting before I live there. We have a home loan approved and everything *seems* to be ok so far (we all know how stressful buying a new home can be). Do you think this will be an issue when filing? With this being our permanent address in the US, this would be the address we will use on our application. My fiance is currently renting.

Sorry for the long post and any help/answers much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

smile.gif

My fiance and I were actually discussing the same subject several month ago, while we were waiting for our NOA2.
I guess it's not a big deal buying the house together, having a mortgage together etc while you are actually not in the US yet.I don't think that the fact of you guys owning a house together when filing would be an issue (but I'm not quite sure though...)!

But I wasn't happy with the whole organization part, and me being so far away scared me quite a bit. The time between filing and Visa-In-Hand can be very long, and I disliked the fact that I wouldn't be around to help fix it up or whatever. Even a simple signature on a little piece of paper would have become an ordeal with me being in Europe and our house in the US.

In the end we've agreed on waiting for me to finally arrive in the US, get married and take it from there as husband and wife....that way everything will be a lot less complicated . And everybody says that the real-estate market will stay a buyer's market in 2008 anyway. So there's no need to rush!

Good luck for whatever you decide to do!! All the best! smile.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat is the RFE Trick?
QUOTE (Dr Mirage @ Feb 1 2008, 03:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello all,

I heard about the RFE Trick, but I do not know what is the purpose of that?

Can anyone explain it to me.

Thank you.

With the RFE trick you'll be able to speak with a breathing person on the phone:

* 1 for English,
* 2 for main menu,
* 2 for reporting an issue,
* 4 for more evidence,
* then 2, 1,
* then entered our case number (with the WAC at the beginning, that is 922+10 digits).
* then it took us to a representative in the service center.

For the VERMONT Service Center, follow these steps...

1-800-375-5283

* 1 for English,
* 2 for main menu,
* 2 for reporting an issue,
* 4 for more evidence,
* then 2, 1,
* then entered our case number (with the EAC at the beginning, that is 322+10 digits).
* then it took us to a representative in the service center

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCalling USCIS-does it generate a touch on your case?
Calling them does not automatically generate a "touch". Before we received NOA2 we called twice using the RFE trick and never got any touches.

The first touch we got was on the day they approved our petition, so don't freak out if you didn't get any touches yet. No touches don't necessarily mean that they are not working on your file...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewfangled Employment Verification @ my Company?
As the petitioner, I know that I am supposed to get a verification of my employment and salary. Trouble is, my employer is a large company in a volatile industry (airlines) and has contracted out everything it can, including employment verifications! The company they are using is called The Work Number (http://www.theworknumber.com). I'm supposed to give whoever needs this information a "salary key" and my "employer code" so that they can pull it up themselves.

Has anyone had any experience with this ridiculous system? Would the Embassy (in Frankfurt) or the US Department of Homeland Security, USCIS use this?

I've spoken to a Customer Service Rep at The Work Number and there is no way I can get this information on myself! wacko.gif The "verifier" needs to request it and the US Dept. of Homeland Security is registered in their system.

Is this going to be a problem? Can't my recent paycheck stubs and my tax returns suffice?

Any help on this score would be appreciated.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresmedical and depression
I know how you feel....
this time of your life is very stressful and uncertain. It drove me crazy for a while that I wasn't able to plan my life ahead.

First you don't know when NOA2 will come, then you don't know if your medical will be good enough for the US, then you don't know when your interview date will be and last but not least you don't know what the embassy will think of the validity of your relationship....a lot of unknown factors, and this is hard to cope with.

But it will get easier once you can see some results. All I know is that making plans is the best medicine. Start making arrangements for your move to the US ( I suppose you're the beneficiary,right?).
Keep yourself busy and shoo away all negative thoughts.....they are pure poison for your love, your life and well-being.

Seriously, I know what I'm talking about as I am the master of negative thoughts and pessimism. But I have learned to deal with them. I guess they'll always stay a part of my personality...but at one point I have decided that I won't allow them to rule my life anymore. Focus on the exciting things life has in hold for you...
I mean, come on: leaving the life you know behind and moving to a different continent and experiencing a whole new lifestyle, what a great adventure that is!
Plus, you'll have all of this with somebody who loves you....isn't that a blessing?

I don't think that your depression issues will be a problem during the medical...I guess they are more concerned about diseases that might be harmful to others.

Be good to yourself, a lot of beautiful things are waiting for you! rose.gif
