Canadacan i still pay off my credit card in the USA from canada?
If you are in the Vancouver area, you can open an account with RBC because they have an account where you can have a Canadian and US account. I can transfer money back and forth and has made it a breeze to pay Canadian bills while I visit in the USA. When I move down I will keep this bank account because I have other stuff to deal with in Canada so it maybe worth looking into. I'm over in Victoria.

CanadaGoing Back to Canada for a visit

We are going up to Michigan for a visit during US Thanksgiving and were talking about maybe heading over to Windsor so my hubby could pick up a few canadian items he's been jonesing for....... Posted Image He got his EAD/AP card last week and the paper it was attached to said a lot of scary things about it not being a guarantee to be granted entry into the USA...... I understand that the Border Patrol has ultimate say in these things and can deny entry for a million reasons.....I was just wondering if anyone has had any issues with this.... I'd hate to lose my husband for another year over a box of Kraft dinner Posted Image

I would not chance it myself. If hubby needs some KD ask someone to send him a care package.. Enjoy your thanksgiving. We were really hoping to celebrate this one together with his family but I guess it will have to wait yet another year.

CanadaWouldn't it be nice
Boy I hear you on the house cleaning..lol.. My place is pretty spotless. My apartment managers said they will be able to give the keys to the next tenant as I walk out of here for the last time... And they are buying all my furniture. Makes this move easy...
Coming up to a new week.
Here's hoping

Canadamedical in montreal need more info

i'm debating doing my medical in Montreal bc it's cheaper it says it takes 3 days could i just get them to send it to the consulate bc i might not be able to stay in montreal long since i might leave our son with my friend and is going to be a big deal if i go to the interview with out it then get it sent in later i live near vancouver but the medical is only done one day a week and youave to be there by 6:30 our son doesn't get up that early and doing the mommy thing by myself demands a good amount of sleep i also need more info on the medical in montreal i don't see much info on the site with vancouver there only open the one day so i have no clue :P

I know Vancouver's Woking Clinic only does the medical one day a week (Wednesday) BUT they don't require as many forms and they give you your results the same day ready for pickup after 1.30. Oh and just a note. If you want to make sure you have your medical records when doing your AOS you can ask for a second sealed envelope for $30.00 and you must take an extra 3 photos.
Something to ponder.

Canadalisting/selling your house

Since one never knows how long the K-1 process will take, I look to my new friends on VJ to give me some guidance.

When do you put your house up for sale????

With 3 kids and myself....I can't list or sell too early as we wont' have a place to live (sure we could rent for a couple of months but the thought of packing and unpacking only to repack and re-unpack numbs me) ....and if I wait too late...I don't want to be in the US with an unsold house.

If it was just me, no big deal but with the kids it makes it more challenging.

Any ideas? I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,

what's the market like there? You can pretty much count on a little extra time because there is more than yourself going across. Extra paperwork. It takes about 60 days to close on a house sale. If I was you I would get the sale out of the way pack everything except the bare essentials needed to run your home, put the rest in storage and rent. But I don't know all the dynamics of your family. Remember if the house isn't sold when the time comes you will have to complete everything by mail courier, and fax. Which isn't unheard of either.

CanadaHomesickness
I haven't actually moved but mentally I'm not here in Canada. I have spent the 6 months at our CT home for the past two years and now waiting for this process is just the final step. I will look forward to coming back to visit family and it is beautiful (I live on Vancouver Island) But I feel at long last I have found where and with whom I felt totally at home. Home is where the heart is and mine is definitely with Glenn wherever that may be. And speaking of Nanaimo Bars... I was born and raised in Nanaimo, BC and they are an awesome tasty over sweet delight.

My most favourite Christmas gift last christmas....

After we had opened our gifts (we did it on Christmas Eve because.. well it was only the two of us and we had a few glasses of wine) Glenn disappeared and then came in to the room gave me a card that said inside to go out onto the deck and look out to the water( house right on the water) I did that and then I hear him playing "oh Canada " on his trumpet. I burst into tears at the thoughtfulness of his gift to me, and the sounds over the water were truly beautiful.

my memories as we are apart this holiday season.

Stay strong and true to your family's needs and the rest will work itself out..

Canadapassport photocopy for medical

hey everyone

i have my medical on wednesday here at woking medical. I know you have to bring a photocopy of your passport, but how?

like in black or white or in colour?

i tried making a photocopy at a few drug stores and i can only get black and white (due to i have no scanner at home)
also, everywhere ive been to do this, my photo is very dark and a little blurry, but my info next to it like my passport number, name, etc is clear to see.

will this be a problem? what should i do?

Woking doesn't say if the photo copy of the bio page has to be colour. It is just to hand in when you have your blood work done. It should be clear and not dark. If you have to go ask someone to adjust the dark/ lightness that would be best. I would hate for you to get there and have them say you need another one. In that case they can't do your medical. It would be worth just getting a better copy.
All the best.

CanadaDenied visitors visa twice (I130 pending approval)

I am a Canadian and I married an American on Jan 01, 2012 in Canada. My husband lives in the US and we applied for the I130 and received our receipt on Feb 29th, 2012. I have come and gone in and out of the US 3 times in the last month, however this past weekend I was denied twice. I provided every piece of documentation asked of me, however I was told that I had insufficient ties to Canada as I am a nurse that works "casual/on-call shifts" and I live at my parents house etc...I am just curious if anyone else has had similar treatment at the border and could suggest any ways to prove I have no intentions to stay in the US illegally while my visa is pending. I had proof of employment, tax returns, bank statements, return flight, marriage license, receipt of my I130! Verrry frustrated at this point as my husband is graduating at the end of May and Im concerned I won't be allowed entrance for that! Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks!

maybe try a different crossing

CanadaCanadian Taxes- Exit return

I can't find a thread that gives me any answersPosted Image
My husband has a simple return..... and we are trying to avoid paying tax prep person to do this ( not sure if I can find one here in my backwards town that knows how to do Canadian taxes)...
Just need to know how he has to claim me.... USC spouse with only US income.
He came here on a K-1 last year, we got married and had his AOS approved last year.

I saw online for Turbo Tax where it asked if you were living in US and having to submit your taxes. You could try there.
It will around 35.00

CanadaCoordinating Medical and Interview?

As I live in Alberta, I'm going to have to fly to Vancouver to do both my medical exam and interview. However, I'd really like to condense it into one trip if possible.. I've already spent about $1500 on plane travel alone to see my fiance in the last six months and it's busy season at work soon until the end of June. :( (While I haven't sent my packet yet, I doubt it will take that long.) The packet checklist states that I must book the exam before the interview, but the woking medical centre is only open Wednesdays. How flexible and available are interviews? Ideally I'd like to have the interview the day after so that my fiance and I don't need to take too much time off work at our respective locations of employment (especially for my fiance's sake - he has already taken a lot of vacation time for me and his brother this year). But I'm nervous I'll book something and find out there are no interviews.

http://www.visajourn...a&cty=Vancouver
If you go onto this site and find the site for booking your interview, you can set up your account so that you will be ready to book your interview when it is time, PLUS if you go through the process you can find out when the next interview date is.

Packet 4 contents (if known): A letter which directs the applicant to http://canada.usvisa-info.com to schedule the interview and pay the visa fee.
This is an informative page.
Hope it helps

CanadaQuestion About Vaccinations
No worries, all you have to do is have some blood work done to show you have either been or not been vaccinated for those things. Go to Woking Medical and read what is required for your age .

CanadaDriving my belongings to the us
I'm not sure I read the post correctly but if you are going to fly and then do a quick trip up to get your belongings remember that you won't have your document right away to come back across the border to US. If doing the whole thing on a one way drive, good luck and happy traveling.

CanadaVaccines.. ugh

You can get them done at the same time. If they aren't given at the same time you need to wait 1 month between each. You need 1 shot of MMR and 2 shots of Varicella if your titre test shows you are not immune. If you don't get both Varicella shots done before your medical they will mark your form as incomplete (this happened to me).

I am planning to send proof of my second shot along with my I-693 form when I file for AOS. If I get an RFE then I'll see a civil surgeon, but other VJ members have said they've done it without getting an RFE.

Good luck.

Woking told me that if you have at least one of the shots of series then you will be ok and that you will have to either finish it before you leave Canada or you can finish it before your AOS. There was also an update that stated they weren't requiring the chicken pox now as well as HIV or something. Sorry for no details on that it has been awhile since I got the information. September of 2011. I will be going through Vancouver this September I hope.
good luck keep me updated please.
And all our vaccinations show incomplete because we don't have the records from childhood. No worries on the technicality.

CanadaInterview at Canadian Embassy

First time on and doing this for my US Fiancee. The question is mine here in Canada. WE have filed the K1 Fiancee visa and NOA1 received on Jan 27th so they are about 30 days from reviewing. I will have no issue with approval, as I have seen my fiancee 8 times in the last 12 months and am ready to move from Canada to USA. I still have my home to sell and a few investments to tidy up. MY QUESTION : If anyone knows... when I go for my interview in June or July, will they take my canadian passport and not return? Reason is that since you must cross the border using the Packet 3 and marry within 90 days, my hopes was to still make a few more visits to Boston area over August and Sept and then in Nov cross and arrange the marriage in 90 days.

I can always delay the medical and stuff that might be needed. Does anyone know?

Hope you get to maybe take in a baseball game at Fenway (if you like baseball) we are down in West Haven CT, 2 hours away from Boston. What a pretty place Boston is. We went last summer and I had my sign ( hand made) which states I was Canadian but the sign police said it went against copyright so I was only allowed to show it between innings. ...... But they photographed it for their website.
Even going through Vancouver you can delay things by just taking your time.
