I was told by someone at the NVC that they are scheduling interviews in the second week in September. It is now the start of the third week and I have heard nothing. My case was closed August 14, 2012. Has anyone from Canada heard from the Montreal consulate about an October interview date yet?

I read today another couple going through Montreal had to scoop Nov 5 interview date.

Hope you get one soon.
I'm going through Vancouver and it will probably mid october for me.

CanadaBooking medical in person?

Just a thought that occurred to me. It's been over a week and after using both email & voicemail, I still haven't heard back from Dr. Cheema's office and was really hoping to get my medical done before October. I live really close to the office and was wondering if you thought going in person to book an appointment would be an effective way of getting a response. Is it set up to allow that?

I sent an email yesterday for a different matter regarding pickup times and they responded within an hour. So it seems odd. I would absolutely stop on by and get it booked. Let us know how it goes.

CanadaPacket 3 Checklist for Vancouver

On the Vancouver Checklist it asks for the following..
1. Divorce and Death certificate.

THE NVC had also asked for this July 5h of me and my Fiancee as a RFE. We sent the ORIGINALS and they acknowledged receipt and approved and sent us the NOA 2 on August 30th.

QUESTION: How can we supply again originals? Will our Orginal documents end up in VANCOUVER? Can I take photo copies? ( Sorry but just want to make sure I have what I need when I get to Vancouver)

Any suggestions or comments is so appreciated.

In my opinion I would take the RFE with you, receipt of them getting the document (original), then take the copy with you. You can also order another death certificate online through vital statistics and they are pretty darned quick at getting it out to. I had to aquire one for my first born.It came within a week so you still have time.

Yeah on the Consulate getting your papers..
Enjoy your trip to see your sweetie

CanadaFYI: Montreal

Just wanted to let you guys all know - I just booked my K1 interview in Montreal and they are booking at 73 days out. The earliest appointment (which I snagged) was December 6th.

I'm going to keep checking back to see if I can grab someone's appointment if they cancel (that's allowed, right?) ... but yeah, brace yourselves for a long wait!!

I believe any appt time is fair game if it's posted as available. I'm not sure how it works for the cancelling the later one but of ciurse don't cancel until the other is confirmed. That would just suck to lose any date.

Good Luck
I'm just waiting to hear back from the Vancouver Consulate so my interview date can be booked.

CanadaVancouver Medical Exam - bank draft?

Hello,

I have my medical exam tomorrow! Their website says nothing about a bank draft for payment but i have read that I need it here. Can anyone confirm how they paid for the medical exam and if it was by bank draft who did you make it out to?

Thanks so much!

Hi there just finished my medical this afternoon.
cash or debit only for payment is what they said. Dr Cheema is a lovely man and the girls at the reception desk are kind and helpful. If you have any questions drop me a line. I'm not sure where you are coming from but keep in mind you will have to go to 8425 - 120 th for your blood work and chest xray. It's only about 10 or so blocks.

There is 1 flight of stairs to get to the floor with the elevator. After that, you can use the elevator to go up and down.

Thanks... Could be a little trick but i would crawl if I had to to get to that interview...lol

this is for those of you familiar with Vancouver Consulate building. When I for my interview on Oct 22 I will have just had knee surgery on Oct 18 and will be on crutches. Is there an elevator to use at all stops before heading to 20th floor? How many steps are there?

CanadaWhen to transfer money?
Hi There
I opened an account with Bank of America and at first they said I needed the SSN but then I went up the ladder and founbd out you can open one without they just have to manually input a code for that. Also they will want to know how you got the money..
I had really no major issues. I also have an account here in Canada (Royal Bank)which has a US account on it as well withseparate debit cards and everything and you can transfer money back and forth.

CanadaMedical Insurance?

Thank you so much for your response!

I'm so excited for your upcoming marriage! Congratulations!

Do you know when we are considered not BC residents? I thought it was if you have spent more than 6 months of the year outside of BC?

Best wishes with everything!!!

We are considered not a residence from what I understand from a long conversation with the NICE folks from Revenue Canada today from the date stamped in our passports on our POE..
Gosh I wish everyone was on the same page.. Sheeesh I was told just in Aug that our insurance would cover us IF we still maintained a residence in BC otherwise we aren't covered no matter what they call it...lolol...I even asked about the not officially a permanent resident of US until we have our papers that tell we are.. So many grey areas. If anyone can shed more light on this I sure would like to hear also..

CanadaMedical Insurance?
Hi There
I already checked this out with BCAA and here is what they told me. At the moment we leave Canada our memberships are void. No coverage. If you have less than 5 months left on your membership you don't even get a refund. The travel insurance won't work because you have to be physically residing in Canada. Don't forget to cancel BC medical or they will continue to add amount owed until you do. That happened to my friend and she had to pay over $500 back. So basically I found no one to cover me in the interim.
Terri

And as for car insurance that too has to be cancelled because we don't reside in Canada any longer. I have kept a car down there for over a year and my insurance was specifically for the out of country insurance but when I cross to get married no longer valid and I have to send my plates back if I want a refund. I have timed it so it expires on Nov 12 so I will not even do a refund for 2 weeks worth.

CanadaCanadian wanting to visit USA for 6 months then apply for visa

Before my visa was issued, I used to go to the US alot too. As a Canadian, it wasn't scrutinized as closely as it would have been had I been from another country. *BUT* eventually, on my like 6th trip in a year, I DID catch the eye of a CBP officer, he put me in secondary, started checking into just how many times I had been crossing and how long each trip was. When questioned, of course I didn't lie and that was when I was told not to try to cross again for, at minimum 6 months and when I tried again to bring VERY strong proofs of my life in Canada and why I'd be returning.

So I guess what I'm saying is, you might get across with no issues whatsoever but be prepared to be questioned and possibly denied entry.

Yes I was pulled into secondary once but showed all my ties to Canada and was told to enjoy my summer but I would not make it through again. He stamped my passport with a B2 stamp and wrote in a date I had to leave by. I made it through several more times without incident.

But you just never know., It is a little nerve wracking to be sure.

CanadaCanadian wanting to visit USA for 6 months then apply for visa
I have been going back and forth now since 2009. We are now just a couple of weeks from our wedding. I would go across and stay for the summer but this last trip I did I went down in Feb until end of April but returned again in May. We put in our K1 (second attempt Feb 17) I stayed until Aug 26 because my 6 months across the border were done.I always carried documentation of my ties to Canada but the last time I went across they asked only 2 questions
1) where was I go going?
2) why?
I considered myself lucky took my passport from the gentleman and got out of there before they asked me something else..lol But NEVER tell a lie.

Good luck on your journey.
Even though most of the waiting was done together I have been back in Canada now almost two months. Keep in mind that VSC rus slower than CSC.

CanadaTaxes while we're still in Canada
I had a conversation at length with Revenue Canada on Feb 8. He said to make sure we look into something called section 217. My brain started to close up with all the info, but it has something to do with a reduction of taxes to be paid. There is a brochure on Revenue Canada site about determining residency and non residency of Canada. It is not as cut and dry as we think. Take a close read through. Plus there are two forms we have to send off to them. One for our change of marital status, and the other is to determine residency.

Forms and info:

RC65 - change of marital status 1 page form
NR73 - Determination Of Residency Staus (leaving Canada) 4 page form
Information Brochure - T4056

hope some of this helps.

I'm taking mine into an accountant here hoping he knows how to interpret this stuff.

CanadaImporting Car

yes you can... At least It was fine for me. I brought my car down to USA because it was too costly to keep renting ad I knew I would be here soon. BTY it took much longer than anticipated. But when I finally had my paperwork for here , EAD card and SS card I was able to get my Connecticut DL, car registration, insurance). You may need the manager at the DMV to sign off on it so ask for one if they give you problems.

He loves his car, its going to be tough to have to sell it if we cannot get the necessary paperwork to have it imported. Doubt we will be able to get the 21K that is left on the loan...again, sucks!

Is the car already states side? If it is drive it out of state if needed to an inspection facility have it inspected, get the verification paper then go back home. If it is still in Canada drive it to the states and take it to the nearest inspection facility. Really I have already contacted Customs on this issue and for me , I have already brought my car to CT they say all I need to do is to take it in and have it inspected for emissions and stuff. It is part of my personal belongings I am importing for my own personal use. I have a Hyundai also and it reads in KM in large font and MPH in smaller.

Getting the letter from Hyundai doesn't cost anything you will just need your VIN number.

CanadaHELP! Car Import from Canada to U.S.

We crossed over in Houlton, Maine. We had the letter from Canada but there was no sticker on the car. The Boarder officer told us we were good to go but that we had a year to import the vehicle at our local office. My husband went to the local office with the letter and apparently it is not sufficient. It MUST say that it is US compliant - NO WAY AROUND IT! So we are chasing any and all leads we can for a solution, but fear that we will have to return the vehicle to Canada to sell :(

When I called they told me it can be inspected at the local inspection place and if it is compliant to US standards you will be given documentation then you can finish the paperwork for the import without leaving the country. This is information with CT. I will see if I can find the website where I got the information. I also emailed them and they sent all the needed information on what to do.

CanadaHELP! Car Import from Canada to U.S.

We are working on importing Marc's car and are running into problems. It is a 2011 Hyundai and meets all Canadian standards, but we need a letter stating it meets all AMERICAN/US standards. Hyundai Canada refuses to add US compliance to their letter. Anyone in same situation? Any Advice?

Also tag expired and we cannot get a new one so he is car-less until all this is taken care of!!

I was told by the powers that be that because my car is already down there as I use it when I visit that I can have my car inspected there locally after the fact. Can you just have it sent down on a truck? I went to Seattle for a visit and decided to go with my boyfriend to his home for a visit and decided I would go back to spend summer so it was transported from Seattle. I then became a fiancee and decided to keep it there and use the bus system here at home.
Not sure if this helps.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionChanged address two weeks before being approved

I'm gettin a little frustrated about 4 weeks ago we moved house and my roc was still pending. Took 2 and half weeks to what we think was successfully change our address with USCIS. First attempts were doing it online but it wouldn't let us submit it. Finally we phoned up and the customer service rep said they did it for us, including for the pending case file. Last weekend we got the approval email for my roc. I think it was on the 21st which happened to ve the same time as a bother filer who I know already has their card in hand as do others who reported approvals a day or two before hand. Yet a week later even though I live in so cal as well mine still hasn't arrived. :(
I've had bad exPeriences before with USCIS not updating my information in their system correctly. I know it says 30 days but it normally doesn't take that long. We have the post office forwarding mail but I'm worried that it will get lost or sent back if it's not the correct address?

Does anyone have any experience with USCIS mail being forwarded via USPS ? should we call again this soon about the address or wait the 30 days?

Thanks in advance

I can't say for absolute certain but I was told the USCIS does not allow mail to be forwarded, that is must be sent back.
You want to call and see if that has happened.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionNo child as yet

Dear Members,

I have a bit of a silly question that requires firm advise.

I am the CPR, and my wife is a USC. Our marriage has not produced any children as yet. However she wants children, and I don't feel ready, for a number of reasons:[1)I have not attended college yet, and plan to. 2)My wife, in discussions with friends and family has planned to leave me in the past, taking away our joint assets, including house and car bought jointly. 3) My wife's daily discussions with her family and/or friends would include negative things about me, including she did not get the husband she had wanted, and what a bad person I am, with no good values.] The reason my wife wants children is because she thinks she is big in age (early 30's)and is thus pressuring me to have kids. I know all she wants is to get pregnant, then I am out the door, as she had discussed in the past that I have one more chance, one more chance of compliance. Yes, my marriage is based on how well I comply with my wife and do exactly as she says(her own words). So, my question is, am I wrong to refuse to have kids now? Would USCIS hold that against me? If she wants to divorce me based on me not wanting kids yet, will the USCIS hold that against me? I filed jointly for ROC in April and is still waiting. I will be grateful for your opinions/answers. Thank you.

It is only my opinion but I don't really think USCIS gets involved in the dynamics of your marriage. If all she wanted was a child there are ways to achieve this. Blackmail is never a good sign in a marriage. Think VERY carefully before adding another life in this world. It should be (in an ideal situation) a mutual decision. Do not be bullied in this issue.

My friends - I am VSC February filer. As VSC started to approve April cases, today I received a mail saying my case is still pending at this time and should receive a decision or notification within 60 days. I have been waiting the result of my case for 10 months. I don't understand what makes my case so special that takes them such a long time to review. Has anyone here experienced the same situation before? Please advise what steps I should take next. Thanks!

We experienced a similar scenario last year. We had received an RFE but still in Jan we received a denial. Ours was due to me being 5 days short of the free to marry.I was divorced but fell a few days short on the free to marry.I figured iity out before the paperwork came and we filed again in Feb and made it through this time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWaiting for NOA2, what forms can I start/tell my fiance to start gathering?

I am a June 2011 filer at VSC, still no NOA2. So instead of just sitting around and waiting, what can I start doing on my end to help speed up the process once the NOA2 does arrive? As in prepare documents for Packet 3/4 etc?

What is already listed on the Forum:
1.A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).
2.Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.
3.Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).
4.I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.
5.You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134. See this FAQ for more tips and ueful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.
6.A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.
7.Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, etc from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 date-now).

What else? Anything I can do to start preparing for the upcoming Packets and forums required? Passport Clearance/Police Clearance etc?

My fiance is in India, using the Delhi Embassy if that helps.

Thanks!!

check into your vaccinations. Prepare your DS-230, DS-156, DS-156K, I think there is a DS-157 for males. Go to your consulate website and see what information is needed for country specifics. I could be wrong because I'm in Canada. For some of the vaccinations they are done in a series so check them out with the approved Civil Surgeon for your area.
