IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFeeling despair...

Hi everyone, I filed a few weeks ago for and was feeling pretty good about things, but recently I've been feeling like getting my husband to the states is going to be an impossibility. Like there is just no light at the end of the tunnel and we'll be denied at the embassy no matter what. Has anyone else gone through this at all? I have such crazy anxiety and have been waking up during the night from dreams about the petition. I really feel for everyone out there going through this process.

you are still early in the process, the hardest part is the waiting. We filed in April and are hoping we will be able to have a december wedding. Missing them is almost unbearable at times and you will feel very sad sometimes but just know we all have the same anxieties You are FAR from alone... hang in there... we are here to help you weather the tough spots and rejoice with each milestone achieved...

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR1 - VISA

Hello everyone!:)

This is my first time posting a topic here and I'm also a newbie.:) My name is Trina and im 28 years old form manila Philippines.:)

My husband been living here in the Philippines since 2008 we just got married last 9/24/2011. since 2008 we've been living together. we are going to file our cr-1 visa by the end of November.

Some says that it will take like 2 years for process, and its easier for me to go to U.S if we did fiance visa.

Do you have any idea how long it will take for CR-1 visa?:)

thank you so much!

Good Luck to everyone!

you are already married so a K1 visa is out of the question. Check out the forum and read the guidelines for how you should proceed.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresThis is probably too late, but what red flags should I watch for?

Hello folks,

I've been watching this forum for a while - and oddly, I should have known better than file our I-130 prior to asking for advice, but I didn't...and I can't change that fact at this point :D Moving right along.....

I realize that my husband and I have (most likely) a good chunk of time ahead of us before we will have to defend ourselves, but I'm trying to be alert to red flags.

About him: Canadian guy, never married (previous to current). Lived in the same city all his life, stable jobs, no criminal records, etc etc.
About me: USC. Moved around a few times with family growing up, then continued to move as an adult. Switched careers a few times before settling into my current path - just finished my most recent schooling May '10, now back in school for more. I have a decent job (RN).
This is my 3 marriage - first was right out of high school (over a decade ago) and ended in just over a year. I have a daughter from that union who is currently 11. I have no idea where he is, we never had contact after I left due to spousal abuse. Second spouse - married during a particularly depressed time, moved across country, was away from friends and family, etc. This is where things get interesting.
I was married to my second spouse for a bit over a year when my current spouse and I met, playing World of Warcraft. We had a mutual friend who both of us knew in person, and the attraction was mutual. After several months of talking in game and online, we decided to meet in person (Fall '07). I flew up to Canada to spend time with him - and while we liked eachother, we just weren't ready to do what needed to be done to be "together". So we went back to our respective homes and went on with our lives as friends.
Fast-forward a couple years. I had finally gotten my fill of the sham marriage I was in - final straw was when spouse was accused of abusing my daughter, and there was an investigation. Though unfounded, I myself could not convince myself of his innocence....so I finally left state. Moved back in with my folks. Through a stroke of odd luck, in late December, I returned to playing WoW (hey, I had to try out Cata!) - and there was my guy. We hadn't talked terribly much over the previous year, as my home situation had deteriorated. But we started talking and spending time online together, and this time it clicked. We were head over heels for eachother!
I flew up to Canada to spend time with him again in Feb '11 - when I came back, we knew we were the soulmates we had always looked for. My divorce from previous spouse was finalized in April, in May, my dear hubby and I married - (he came to the US for a week to visit, meet my friends, etc), after which he went back home to Canada. We had aprivate ceremony, his parents couldn't come due to health problems, my family was not invited due to previous issues regarding their views of my relationships. My daughter and I went back up during the summer to spend time with him and his family, and he's coming back down here to spend Christmas with us.

The potential pitfalls and how I addressed them (feel free to chip in with what I missed, or may have coming up >.<):

Problem: My previous marriages- They were both to USC by birth, no visas/immigration issues involved. That being said, current relationship began while I was legally married to another man. Yes, feel free to judge me, it is what it is. May have possible concerns regarding bona fide?
Solution: a) I wrote a personal statement as part of I-130 packet, detailing the evolution of current (and most important!) relationship
b) Was not able to get affidavits - my flakey teenage sister (19 years old) said she would write one, but never did. After nagging for months...gave up. Other friend who knew both of us was killed in a car wreck in July.
c) Included copies of previous divorce decrees, current joint bank statement
d) Included what few photos we did have of our actual marriage ceremony. It was small and meaningful, nothing flashy. We both decided on having something more "traditional" in late '12, near his hometown, so his extended family could attend.
e) Skype logs, phone logs, and a brief statement about how we spend time together online via WoW and more recently League of Legends and Lord of the Rings Online, etc....

On a side note, not sure how to handle the issue with back tax transcripts, either. Assuming we'll be into 2012 when I have to provide transcripts, I'll have one year of our marriage, but previous transcripts would be joint with previous spouse. He and I do not speak, he has the tax records. I have no issue making minimum income qualification this year, but previous years, I was in school and making minimal income...will that be an issue? What do I do about it? Joint sponsor may be...out of the question.

I'm sure this was more rambling than it needed to be, but I sure do appreciate your assistance!

-Stormherald

they aren't there to pass judgement on the reasons for marriage failure,. They just want absolute proof of the relationship you are petitioning for.
I wish you luck. I'm Canadian also married 3 times before. All bad mistakes. life goes on and they have all lead to this place in our lives.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCanadians shipping goods

I am looking for cheaper ideas for shipping my goods to California - truck rentals are so expensive with gas etc... my brain is overloaded and not really capable of cognitive thought. Thought maybe people who have done this already might have some ideas.

Thanks!!!

INTERVIEW IN 6 SLEEPS!

depends how much stuff you are packing. If you have boxed it up have you kept an itemized list for shipper? My girlfriend just went through this last November and she had movers do it from Victoria, BC to Florida and it cost her between 2 - 3K. She was able to find a pretty inexpensive mover. I will get the info from her if you would like.Remember to only bring across what you REALLY need. I was packing up my stuff for the eventuality of the move and found myself packing printer paper and stupid things I can purchase once I'm there. It will cost you between .60 and $1.25 or so to ship as it will cost per pound of goods.

ps good luck on the interview.

CanadaInterview at Canadian Embassy
At the time of interview they keep the passport so your visa and I-94 can be put in. As for your medical it is good for a year. If you want to stall then just schedule your interview later in august or september as we schedule our own interview dates.Once you have interviewed you can still wait (I think!!!) for up to 4-6 months) better check that time frame to cross the border. So in reality you can delay your POE for awhile.
Hope some of this helps

CanadaVancouver Interview Run down please

Hello,

Thank you so much for your help!

Can some of you who have had an k1 Fiance Visa interview in Vancouver share your experience please?
Especially can you share:
-what was the waiting period to to get an interview after you received notification that you can proceed to an interview?
-when do you get your passport with your visa in it after your interview?

Thanks a million!

Carin

Hey Carin
You can also set up your account to prepare for the booking of your interview and that way you can kinda gauge how the times are going for interviews.

Hi all Canadians going though Vancouver for your medical at Woking Medical Services. I just received a confirmation on a couple of changes they have made to requirements.
1) Only one color passport photo needed
2) If you would like a second sealed envelope for your AOS just in case yours is lost you need (1) extra photo and the cost has gone from $35.00 - $50.00

Hi Terri,

Yes only 1 photo is required now and we will only issue another copy of your medical in a sealed envelope if it is for your adjustment of status and there is a fee of $50.00 and 1 additional photo is required.

Canadaafter NOA2

Hi Terri...

Today my fiance, the USC, received a letter from the NVC & I received a letter from the US Consulate in Vancouver.

Coincidence we got letters on the same day? In any case, I'm happy we both got them.

My letter from the VANCOUVER Consulate, instructed me to download packet 3.... VANCOUVER: Packet 3 (2012-June-07)
It's basically the same as what I downloaded months ago, HOWEVER there are *changes.
(Better to go with whatever site they tell you, because things change & they're in charge).

*Photographs: Three (3) ..... previously was five (5)

*Medical Examination and Visa Interview: Due to the changes in Department of Homeland Security procedures, the medical exam should be completed on a date close to the actual visa appointment in Vancouver. Details on how to schedule a medical examination and a visa interview will be provided to you as soon as we receive notification that you have collected all of the required documents.

The above are the only real changes I saw. So really, I don't think there is much you can do before you get your NOA2.

Hope this was helpful.

thanks I know the amount of photos changed because Woking doesn't need as many. I hope to book my medical and interview either on the same day or within the same week as i have to come over from Victoria.

keep me updated..
much appreciated

Enjoy your sweetie.

Canadaafter NOA2

Hi Terri,

Lucky you spending the summer with your honey. I sent you a PM response.

But for others that might read this, that are waiting the LONG wait between NOA1 & NOA2 (hopefully no RFE) you're waiting.
I will be doing my interview in Vancouver as well, and while waiting in between NOA's, I looked at packet 3. Did what I could do, and did what I needed to get done. (photos, renew passport, send away for LONG Birth certificate...etc...etc...)

Print off the packet 3 'check-list', and start checking things off.

Enjoy your time with your honey.

Happy Journey!

Canadaafter NOA2
Hi There Fellow Canadians

As you can see by my timeline we have an NOA1 date of February 24 2012. I will be interviewing in Vancouver.
Here is where my confusion sits.
I am currently visiting my fiance for the summer. I have until Aug 27 when my 6 months across the border is used up.
We want to be able to do most of the steps from here and hopefully go back for the interview and medical together.
Anyways I know the steps after the NOA2 but when we get our new case number what exactly can I get done with just having that number?
How do I know when the Consulate has our file?
Can I book medical or interview? I know I have to fax info to consulate but do I have to wait for them to contact me? How do I request all my packets by email only? All my mail is being held until I return. I have my forms and everything ready to fax and my account is set up to book interview.
What I would appreciate is someone giving me the detailed steps and when and how I can start things going.
Thank you very much.

CanadaVANCOUVER WoKing Medial: Extra copy of Medical

HELLO to my fellow Canadians from the 'currently' sunny Vancouver!! Posted Image

*I am a Canadian-K1-Beneficiary* (just so ya'll know that eh)

My medical in Vancouver, at 'WoKing Medical' is this week. I've already got my bank draft and all the other stuff ready.

QUESTION:
I know you can pay an extra $50 for a copy of your 'sealed envelope' for your AOS. Is this advisable to do? Has anyone actually done it, and used that 'copy' for their AOS?

Insert from Vancouver Consulate info...( which also included "WoKing Medical" info..)
*If you would like and extra copy of your sealed envelope just in case yours gets lost within the immigration system, you can bring an extra passport photo and $50.00. this is only if you want it for AOS which you tell them at the start of the medical*.

Looking forward to advice from CANADIANS ... and anyone who went through 'WoKing Medical', in Vancouver.

Thank you & Happy Journeys!

CanadaFiance flying to Canada for my interview

My Fiance is flying to Canada this Saturday to attend my K-1 Fiance Visa interview on Monday July 23rd. We are planning for him to tell the Border the truth, that he is coming to attend the interview with me, and is then returning to the US on Tuesday (he has a two way ticket) because he needs to return to work on Wednesday. He's already going to have his employment letter with him (since I need for my interview).

Are the Canadian border people familiar with the K-1 Visa? He's taking with him my interview confirmation letter, and NOA2 that shows him as the petitioner and me as the beneficiary, I also believe it shows that once I get accepted I have 90 days to marry once I enter the US.

If they are familiar with the K-1 process, then they shouldn't really question whether or not he is planning to stay in Canada.

I'm just a worry wart I know :P

Yes they are familiar. the only thing you need for your fiance to bring are the required documents for the interview. there shouldn't be any concerns on him coming into Canada. Breathe,,,,,, and all the best on Monday.

CanadaLots of questions for Vancouver interview

1. Vancouver P3 states “birth certificates”. Does this mean I also need an original of the USC’s certificate, or just my own? Same question for Police Certificates- just for the beneficiary, or for the petitioner too?

Only the beneficiary needs to bring documentation. As a note, I brought both a regular long-form birth cert and a certified copy birth certificate and they preferred the latter (costs more to get though).

2. Someone once mentioned they ordered two original copies of their long form birth certificate. Is this necessary, or will one original (with extra photocopies) be enough?

They only wanted to take one photocopy of the birth certificate, and took the original birth certificate briefly as well.

3. Does Woking give you DS-3025 and 1-693A at the medical? And are both of these necessary?

Woking didn't give us any paperwork.. Just the exam results in a sealed envelope and an envelope with vaccination data/a CD.

4. I believe a TB test and syphilis test are necessary for AOS, but maybe not for K1 (?). Does Woking test for these? If not, can I ask for them to?

You'll probably have to ask, but I'm pretty sure the x-ray they did was for TB. Possible that the blood test checked for syphilis.

5. I keep reading about signing up for DHL, but am not sure how/where to do this. Does this apply for Vancouver? When signing up for my interview, it said Loomis would be used to return my passport, and that I could log into my account to get the waybill # once approved. Which account does this refer to? The CSC Visa website account?

It refers to the stuff you filled in on the CSC visa website.. If you picked the closest Loomis location as you were in the process of booking your interview, you should be good. Pretty sure you can edit that info on the website if need be. And yep, same site for waybill (though I got it by email first).

6. Last question- any suggestions on how early to arrive before the scheduled interview time?

We arrived roughly 25min ahead of time, which seemed to be just right. Fortunately we had little in the way of lineups on the way inside.

The Beneficiary takes an original of all needed documentation, take a photocopy of each to leave with them. they would appreciate that and will return your originals.
Long form birth certificate needed.
Yes the x-ray tests for TB and the blood work is for the syphilis
Police Certificate is only for you.

CanadaMedical in Toronto

I am losing sleep at night worrying about all the things that come with the K1 and immigration process in general.

My biggest concern is the medical exam for my fiance. I am the USC. He is going to be going for his medical in Toronto. He was born with a hole in his heart. (I filled it of course when we met 11 years ago :innocent: ) But he has a pacemaker now to make sure everything keeps beating like it should.

Do you think this will cause an issue? Obviously when they do the chest x-ray they will see the big hunk of metal in his chest. I don't want him to fail the medical because of something he had since birth. He goes to his regular pacemaker appts and everything is going great like always. He actually has an appt at his pacemaker doctor in Toronto next week. Is there anything he should get from this regular doctor to bring to the medical appt for the visa?

Any advice would be great! Thank you :)

I was told I needed a letter from my DR. if I had any surgeries and explain what. the doctor had to list the diagnosis and the prognosis. A letter from the Doctor will be needed.
If they require the same information. I was told this last year.
Hope this helps

CanadaFlu Shot for Interview in October

So reading the drcheema.ca website for the Vancouver medical, for vaccines one of the comments says:

"Influenza (only required during October - February, annually)"

I was hoping to schedule my medical for early October, but when I phoned public health to ask when the flu shot would be available they told me probably not till the end of October but that no one really knows exactly when it will be available yet. Will it be a problem if I have my medical in October without having had the flu shot? I don't know if I have a choice if it's not even available yet, other than waiting till the end of October but that just seems silly - I'm assuming they will make an exception to the October requirement. Any experience from last year?

I have been phoning everywhere here around south on Vancouver Island and no one will really have the vaccine for 6he the fu shots until possibly the beginning of Oct but most said not until closer to the end of Oct. one pharmacy said perhaps they would order it. But if it is not available then we just have to tell them.

Thanks, I just called the NVC again today and they said I have my interview date OCT 1, 2012. I am so excited, I never expected it to be so soon! Good luck to you too!

I read today another couple going through Montreal had to scoop Nov 5 interview date.

Hope you get one soon.
I'm going through Vancouver and it will probably mid october for me.

Terri

I was told by someone at the NVC that they are scheduling interviews in the second week in September. It is now the start of the third week and I have heard nothing. My case was closed August 14, 2012. Has anyone from Canada heard from the Montreal consulate about an October interview date yet?
