I think 'well done' gets a bad rap because of all those people who don't know how to cook a well done steak properly.

It's not supposed to be burnt, or burnt on the outside but not quite done on the inside. It should still be flavourful and not dry (although I like it dried out too!!).

I also think it's funny that people think well done steak is somehow 'badddddd'. For instance, if your friend thought having a hamburger half cooked was fabulous (and a lot of people do) and you thought it was gross, it would just be accepted, but for some reason because it's steak - it's weird.

Also! (yeah i've thought about this haha) if you like your chicken sandwich with mustard but your Husband hates mustard, you would just leave the mustard off, you wouldn't say omg Hank!! you must put mustard on your chicken, it makes it taste so much better!! No of course not because you know Hank does not like mustard.

Just some thoughts on steak I thought I would share laughing.gif

I used to be a well-done'r when it came to steak, too. But the melt-in-your-mouth flavor of a medium cooked steak is just hard to surpass.

Now, with that, I only like well done roast beef, hamburgers, etc. Chicken/pork HAS to be well done, imo.

Steak is really the only thing I'm picky about. Hubby is a medium-rare (which is too undercooked for me).

Use the top of the tomato you cut off to trash, scrape it with some sugar, and use it as a facial rub.

We both had Ropa Vieja (shredded beef mixed with peppers in a spicy sauce) with fried plantains, yellow rice, salad and Cuban bread, and we picked up an order of croquettas Jamon (ground ham with spices rolled in flour and fried) for an appetizer. It was all very good - and of course we have enough left over for lunch tomorrow. We did it backwards tonight having dessert first. And yes, I'm stuffed.

Mmm.. Cuban food. :x Makes me miss home so much more - and my Gramma for cookin' it! My aunt made me ropa vieja for my birthday (I'm half-Cuban biggrin.gif). It was delicious.

They make theirs in a spicy sauce? Weird. Cuban ropa vieja isn't spicy.

We're making sushi at home tonight - first time. Gonna make california rolls and kappa rolls.

I'm confused!! Which map are we using?

1) http://www.quikmaps.com/show/124583

or

2) http://maps.google.c...i...007135&z=17

Anyhoo, I marked myself at Vancouver, BC in both.

Holy #######! Raven, you're less than 30 minutes* away from me. tongue.gif

* Time adjusted for HWY1 means 90 minutes.

She's closer to me, so there!

Anyway - I put it in the general area.

I have been reading Deception Point by Dan Brown.... it's a scientific thriller. OMG, I can't put it down!

Deception Point was an excellent book!

I am reading Dark Fire by Sansom right now. Interesting fictional novel that ties in historical fact in 1540's England.

Canadawhen did u give up your CDN residency?
QUOTE (flames9 @ Sep 7 2009, 05:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I crossed over to the USA in My U-haul van on Dec 17 2004. When i filled out my Cdn taxes for 2004, right on the first page of the tax return it asks the date one ceased to be a Cdn resident. I jotted down Dec 17. Never did file NR 73--I actually called them up and the said it was not a "must" so why bother with more useless paperwork! lol When I got my VA drivers license, they kept my Nova Scotia license! And as a non-resident of canada, ur not entitled to health care. If you have RRSP's you can leave them in canada, but notify the company that is looking after them and tel them that ur a non-resident of canada, belive there is a form u have to fil out. As well u have to let the IRS know u have them, and thats form 8891. IRS wont tax you on them as long as u dont touch them, but some States will tax you on them!

Yeah, BC kept my WA license. sad.gif From what the ICBC lady told me, they actually send the license back to the issuing agent.

I prefer Pac Crossing over Peace Arch, simply because it was easier for us to get to and the guards have always been nicer there.

I would say Pac Crossing would be better because they handle all the customs and the guards have always been a bit nicer.
