Called NVC just now, usual response 2-4 weeks..now I'm on hold with DOS. If nvc is in new hampshire, why does it need to take 2-4 weeks for them to receive from Vermont? arrrgh mad.gif

It doesn't...it only takes forever from CSC because they wait till they fill a crate to send them out. NVC may have it, but since yours was just approved last Thursday, give them a little time to receive it. It was probably mailed out to NVC on Friday, but all federal agencies were closed on 12/24 (only open for essential personal and NVC is not essential) & 12/25. They may have it logged in by tonight or tomorrow. Be glad yours was at VSC and not CSC, otherwise you'd be waiting 3-5 weeks for them to even receive it smile.gif

Well since Jeraly is in this group now officially, its time to bring it back to life. We got a hard copy letter from NVC, basically told me what I already knew, our case # that they got the petiont and had forwarded it to Auckland. <Sigh> how come I can not get to talk to a body at the Auckland consulate. I try and try but their automated system sucks and no one calls me back. Anyone have any ideas? I am dying to see if they got the packet and when they will be seding packet 3 out to Daniel.

I am fighting a head cold, I took cold eeze the day i felt i was getting it. I think it is keeping it at bay, havent got the full on cold, so maybe i am beating.... still rest is in order.

Jeraly, how is Jeremy? Tell him I said hi and to show you a good time!!! ;-)

Christine

Try calling the Dept fo State (DOS) 202-663-1225 Option 1 then Option 0 to speak to a visa specialist, they can tell you when the consulate rec'd the paperwork and when they sent out pkt 3 smile.gif

well i am in the airforce stationed in misawa japan. I have a question about the Japanese address system i was wondering if anyone could help me on formating it to western style address. I am starting the process of filing the I-129 and when it ask for her address it ask for number and street, Apt#, town or city, state or country and zip code. Now i am confused where to put in the information of her address

here is her address translated in english

9-78 okamisawa -street number
misawa - city
amori - prefecture **Do not include on I-129f, it's not necessary**
033-0021 - postal code
Japan

if anyone could specific details on how i can file the I-129 with the correct address it would be great
thanks

We filed for I-129 last year and the prefecture is not necessary. Good luck! good.gif

I was doing some more research, some of the information I was looking up was different than the others. When My Fiance goes for the interview ( Tokyo Embassy) What forms does she need to have with her? 1 forum says they dont need much, they need affidavit of support and another letter saying you still intend to marry her. Then another post said she will need both originals of the diovorce decrees for the interviews. If the Tokyo Embassy has the packet that I sent, then both Decrees are included in them. Does she still need them? any other information would be nice. Thanks

any U.S. Military on here?

is there any easier way to do this process if you are in the Military? I talked to the folks on base and they could not help me at all.

Just follow the K-1 guide above. Below the instructions for submitting the I-129f are what you'll need to send her after you receive the NOA2. My husband took all of the originals with him to the interview, but didn't need to show them. However, a girl who was being interviewed at about the same time was asked to show various items, but she didn't have most of what they asked for. We don't know the outcome of her interview or if she had to go back, but it's better to send too much, than not enough. smile.gif

(I was in Japan for 15 years..the first 7 with my ex at Yokota AB..where are you stationed?)

I was stationed at Yokota AB from 2004-2007, I'm stationed at New Mexico at Holloman AFB, but currently in Iraq right now on deployment

We were at Yokota from 1988-1995 and then I moved just north of the base to Iruma-shi, Saitama (about 15 min from Mizuho Mall) until 2003. Been back here just 5 years, but I miss Japan. If your fiance has questions about the interview process, my husband, Daisuke, wrote a review..just click on the reviews link above. If you have any questions, feel free to IM me smile.gif

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Emailed over Scanned copy of my NOA2...now what?
QUOTE (Iliad @ Aug 15 2008, 03:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Ok, so after more than 2 months of waiting and being told to wait by both USCIS and the NVC, I spoke to the people at the NVC and the lady on the phone told me to email her a scanned copy of my NOA2.

My question...now what? When can i call and see if they got it? What does me emailing them my NOA2 actually accomplish?

Thanks for your help and advice!

The same exact thing happened to me last year...CSC (USCIS) lost our paperwork! CSC said they sent it, NVC never received it.

By emailing or faxing them a copy of your NOA2, they can see that you've been approved and forward the information on to the US embassy in Japan. Then the emabssy can send out the necessary paperwork and information that your fiance needs (it'll all be in both Japanese and English) as well as a list of doctors for her to choose from for the medical exam. Without NVC sending the info to the embassy, the embassy won't do anything.

Get them a copy of your NOA2 as quickly as you can so they can move forward and good luck to you both! good.gif

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOpinions: what would you do??
[Well if you girlfriend is coming here on tourist visa, let her come she can stay here for 6 months. Apply for k1 (fiance visa) after she arrives, it probably will get approved by the time her tourist visa period is over, she can go back attend the interview and come back.

That way you guys get to be together during most of the process. I don't think there is anything illegal in what I suggested. Correct me if I am wrong.
[/quote]

I've never heard of a tourist visa for 6 months, only 90 days. I lived in Japan for 15 years and have been back here in the US for 4 and we chose the K1 route. It seems like a long time, but it's really not so bad. My fiance and I have been together for nearly 12 years now, and although it's hard being apart (he's come for several visits), we were told that during the process (once we filed) I could go and visit him, but he can't come here. We too, are hoping for a NOA2 soon and that he'll be here around Christmas time...don't worry...you're not alone in this "fun" waiting game we all have to play smile.gif

When you become more familiar with the process, you'll understand that the economic interest is practical -- you will be promising to support your wife for (approx) 10 years so that other taxpayers do not have to.

I'm sorry she was turned away but this is where doing research first would have saved you.

Just get your I-130 filled out and into USCIS and get the ball rolling. You'll have plenty more to complain about before the end of your visa journey. But you'll be in good company. ;-)

smile.gif Perfectly stated MsZ!

Shogimatt...please read through the guides above. This should answer many of your questions and of course, we're all here to help and be a sounding board when you need to vent. There seems to be no real rhyme or reason as to why some get processed faster than others, regardless of the visa type, but for most of us, the journey is long (waiting sucks!) and we all understand how hard it is to be away from a spouse/fiance while this process creeps along at a snails pace.

Keep your chin up, get the ball rolling! good.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVaccinations

Hi everyone,
Me and my fiance are working on getting a K1 visa for me, and I was wondering if I have to get vaccinated prior to entering the US.
We read online that I didn't have to get them until AFTER I went to the states.
I called the Embassy here in Japan and they told me I should get them before going in for my interview in Tokyo. I was wondering if there is an official site or page that I could print out to prove that I don't have to get the vaccinations now?

It'll costs about $1,000~$1,500 more if I have the vaccinations done here.

help?

My fiance is Japanese and I lived in Japan for 15 years. I never had to pay that much for any shots. My kids went to Japanese public schools and I never had to pay that much for anything that they needed for school (except uniforms :-) ) Did you mean that you're required to pay 1000 -1500 yen per shot? That would seem more along the lines of what they would charge (between $8-$12 depending on the yen rate)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Form

If you had that part time job last year, you will include copies of the W2 and/or 1099 from that job with the copy of 1040.

In our case this what the I-134 included.

  • I-134 signed and notarized.
  • Tax transcripts from the IRS for past 3 years, (Redundant for the (1040,W2,1099) but are free from the IRS
  • Photo copy of IRS form 1040, and W2s for past 3 years
  • Letter from my employer stating annual salary, job responsibility, and that is full time, on company letterhead.
  • Photo copies of past 6 months pay stubs up to a few weeks before the interview.
My income was well above 125% povertyline so I did not include any asset data.

Thanks. The instructions for the I-134 say to include tax returns for the last year if "self-employed", but doesn't mention including them for any other reason. So, I need copies of my tax returns for the past 3 years as well as tax transcripts for the same time period?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Form

u2rsobad,

Why did you obtain documentation supporting the part-time job but leave it off of the I-134?

You are questioning the meaning of the word "all" in "all originals of documentary proof"? Good for you. Send the originals (which may actually be certified copies) of 'official' documents such as birth certificates, divorce certificates, and the like.

Also, in looking at the step-by-step guide, it says to send my fiance a copy of the I-129f packet I made for him along with all originals of documentary proof that I submitted with the I-129f for his interview at the embassy..which documentary proof originals do I need to send?

Thanks for your help in advance

I just filled out the I-134 today and haven't had it notarized yet..will wait till I get the NOA2 I guess so the dates are relatively close; just trying to get as many things together as possible to save time later. I'm not intentionally leaving off the part-time jobs (I actually have 2) from the I-134, but there's no place to list them. So, I was wondering if I just needed to get letters and paystubs. One of the part time jobs I started last year in Oct. as seasonal help and it continued. The other part time job officially started in June 2007 with Dept of Homeland Sec. , but I applied in Jan..as with this K1 waiting game, it was the same for my new DHS job. The wheels of gov't aren't famous for turning too quickly :)

Thanks for your info on the "all original" docs. I wasn't sure if I needed to send my only original copies of my birth cert. & previous divorce papers to him.

I agree..it's always better to be safe than sorry, but I don't really understand why they would want copies of the fiance's passport. Maybe it was different for you since you're already married? Or if it's needed due to lack of airline boarding passes for supplemental proof of seeing each other?

I don't know if 20-30 min is unusual or not, but some other's reviews I've read from Tokyo, stated that they were asked many questions. It just depends on the interviewer and what documents you have. Good luck smile.gif good.gif

My fince's interview was yesterday..no strange questions and it only lasted a few min. However he said some others interviews were taking 20-30 min and they were being asked many questions. I think our case is a little unique considering we've been a couple for more than 12 years I lived in Japan for 15 years, so maybe they didn't need to ask him as many questions. They asked him when and how we met, what his plans are for when he moves to the USA and what kind of a wedding we're planning. He said they didn't really ask much else, wished him good luck and congratulations for a happy life together.

Hope this helps you smile.gif

If you want your fiance to receive a temp work stamp, that will allow him to accept employment for the 90 days his K1 is valig upon US entry, go through JFK. From what I have heard they are the only airport still issuing it.

FYI: Since your coming from Albania, make sure, upon a lay over in Italy or Germany, not to leave the international/transit zone of the airport. In some European countries he would need a transit visa to be able to leave that zone.

I've heard that any POE will if you ask for it, but I'll find out soon enough, although I was also told that the K1 is an automatic work visa for 90 days smile.gif

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionpacket 3 sent?
Along with packet 3 from the embassy, they send a list of the doctors she can see to get her medical evaluation. She can not use her own doctor. They also should've have sent the form to show at the police headquarters for her prefecture for the police clearance. In many other countries, you can get these two things prior to the embassy sending anything, but not in Japan. The police will not do anything until they get the paper/form that the embassy sends out and the embassy does not list the doctors they approve of on the website or any where else.

So if she has already received and sent back packet 3, then she needs to complete the medical and police clearance before they will schedule her for an interview appointment. The embassy sends the instructions in English and Japanese so should be no confusion. Good luck!! good.gif

In Japan, there's no packet 4 actually. Well, you might call the interview request confirmation "packet 4".

Regarding interview request, if you already prepared I-134 related document, you can go ahead. Police certification takes about 2 weeks, medical report takes a few days. If you feel OK with your plan to complete all the documentation by a certain date, then make a request for the week of the day via embassy site. I did that. good.gif

Wow, K & W, you got lucky smile.gif (Or we were just unlucky) My husband had to wait until he had the police cert and medical exam results in hand before he could even make the interview appt. They said too many people were making appts in advance that didn't have completed documents in hand and they'd have to reschedule, wasting everyone's time. I say to try and make the appt in advance if possible. Good luck good.gif

Thanks for the advice. I have all the documents together, just need to write the letter. I guess i will send the NOA2 to my fiance and see if She can use that to get her police certificates. Ill have to do some research on the Medical check...

She has to go to one of the doctors/hospitals listed on the paperwork that the embassy sends out once they receive the case from NVC. It never hurts to try, but my husband couldn't get the police certificate without the documents from the embassy either. My best recommendation is to have your fiance call the police headquarters in her prefecture and see what exactly they need/will accept in order to get the certificate. My husband lived in Saitama prefecture and they would not accept the NOA2, he had to have the paper from the embassy. Good luck good.gif

The priority date on our NOA1 is blank so would think that when they reissued the NOA to you they put the receipt date in the priority date box.

The important issue would be your approval NOA and remember to keep that in a save place because you will need it when filing for AOS.

Yes, I agree the NOA2 is most important, however, the priority date is about the date when it should've been received by Nebraska before being transferred to CSC. So as far as my timeline, would the the priority date be the date to use verses the date the check was cashed?
Thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI-129f / NOA1 question
I was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me as I was looking through various posts and didn't see it addressed. I received a replacement receipt notice for my NOA1. I had never received the NOA1 and when I called to get our case #, I was told to call back after 45 days if I still hadn't it. When I called back, they said not to worry that there had been some computer errors, but he would happily send me out a replacement notice. My question is there is no date listed in the received date section, but there is a date (6-5-07) in the priority date section of this replacement notice. The check was processed on 6-18-07 so which date is the one I would use as my NOA1 rec'd date?

Thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNo hard copy of NOA1 from CSC who filed 129F from April - June 2007
No NOA1 either, but called early last week to check on it since they told me to wait until 45 or more days had passed due to computer problems in sending out notices. I called, got a "touch" and then a replacement notice for the NOA1 in the mail yesterday. At least I finally got something tangible :)

With the I-797C (NOA1) and I-797 (NOA2) there are a bunch of dates that makes it confusing.

NOTICE DATE is the date the physical paper (I-797 or I-797C) was printed, and is basically irrelevant to your Visa Process...

Thanks for the info, but what I was trying to point out is that myself and now a few others have gotten replacement notices because we never got the NOA1 and there is no received date...only a priority date and so we were confused as to which date is the one we follow (ie: the date the check was cashed or the priority date.) I don't have a bunch of dates on my notice, only the priority date and the notice date which is the date they printed the replacement notice. Thanks for trying to help

To clarify, there is no significance to a priority date on a I-129F NOA receipt. Normally priority dates are important in the case of a person waiting for a visa number to become available i.e. brother of a USC. For K1s, visa are immediately available therefore the priority has no value. It's just the date it was received - nothing more - and won't impact anything.

I had posted the same question on another thread..apparently we were posting at the same time. I also got a replacement NOA1 in the mail yesterday with no rec'd date and only a priority date. I mailed my I-129f on 5/31, have a priority date of 6/5, check cashed date of 6/18 and a replacement notice date of 8/3. I don't know if the 6/5 date is the date they sent it to CSC or is my actual NOA1 date or if the 6/18 is considered the NOA1 date.

I'd be happier if I could just get my hands on an NOA2!
