In don't know if your particular make and model of vehicle is on a watch list, but I had heard that there is no discrimination with US and Canadian made vehicles as they were made to specs of both countries.

Anyways, I dug up my Vehicle Conformance letter from GM. The department is "Vintage Vehicle Services" and the number is:
1-888-467-6853 or 905-440-7697. When I phoned last March or April about it, it seemed that this was a small department with the sole purpose of doing these letters, so hopefully, you will do better with this than your previous attempts.

Thanks, and Good Luck!
Scott.

P.S.: Sorry, it was actually May when I did this...

Vintage Vehicle Services is who i called 2 weeks ago, and a compliance letter was sent to me within a week, and I had to pay $85.00. That was also through GM, I had no problems at all, and the guy was very nice on the phone.

I would keep sending them an email, once in the morning, once in the afternoon until you get a real response!! They told me the same thing, that my new interview date was set and they would sent me out a letter. I finally emailed them back, and asked if they sent it out, and someone replied to me and told me the date my letter was sent out, and I got it 2 days later. Keep emailing them.

Don't forget to also send in the I-865 address change notice for the spouse/sponsor!

Thanks, I checked both my NOA's, and neither one of them have an A #... Oh well... thanks for the info...

CanadaChange of Address (AR-11)
Thanks. I'll check my NOA's. On my visa in my passport, I have an 8 digit registration #, and also an 8 digit # in red, underneath my expiry date. Could it be one of those?

CanadaChange of Address (AR-11)
On the form AR-11, when filling it out, it asks for your 'A' #, (9 digits)... but it also doesn't have a red asteriks by it. (So, not needed).... but, if you don't have your green card yet, is that number on my temporary visa in my passport, or no? They all seem to be 8 numbers.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this question!

CanadaMontreal IR interview prep & looking for reviews of same
I just had my IR-1 interview 3 weeks ago. They already had all our original documents. No fees to pay, as I already paid the $380. last year sometime. I still brought my little my file folder with copies of everything anyway. I did have to renew my RCMP Police Cert, as it had been over 10 months since my last one was done. Good thing, cuz she asked me for it!!! I also had to renew my passport just before the interview, and she asked me if I had a photocopy of it, which I did!! Along with my interview letter, I got instructions of what to bring, etc. In there, it was stated to bring an expresspost envelope, and also was a list of all the original documents that they had received and reviewed.

The questions I was asked:

How did you meet your husband?
What does he do in the military?
What boat is he on?
You've been married 3.5 years, why did you wait so long to apply for your visa?
Wow, that must have been difficult huh?
So, you really want to move to the US and be a navy wife?? (we both laughed)

That was it. I think it was in the little closet of an interview room, for all of 3.5 mins.

CanadaI-130 Guide
We filed the I-130 (my husband petitioned for me), and I don't remember them asking for any proof. Weird. I would think your marriage certificate would be proof enough. But yes, all those things mentioned as proof would be good enough. We never showed any kind of proof, only sent in the marriage cert. And to this day, we still don't have any accounts together.

Samachi are you in a town that has an SSA? I think that you could go there and check if you are in the system. my hubby already had a SSN so was able to just go in and request a new card that didn't have the "need INS approval for work" verbage. He went on a Monday and waited for 2 hours then gave up, but the next day only waited 15-20 minutes and was out of there. He actually got the card 1 week later. I'd guess that's a bit quicker becuase it wasn't an app for a new number

Yep, there are a few couple of offices in the surrounding towns I can go to. Gonna go next week and see what they tell me. I read in another post somewhere that you need your I-551, and proof of residency (meaning, proof you live at your address). Which I don't have anything yet. I might be changing my address with USCIS, cuz my husband is deployed, (no one there getting the mail right now, exepct for when I go down to check it), and Im going to look for work for now. A job that I found, is just waiting for my SSN, and its about an hour away. I have found a place I can rent for now. At least I know the mail would be checked everyday.

I have an IR-1 visa if that makes any difference. But yes, you can tick the box, and they are supposed to apply for a SSN for you, but from what I've read, alot of times they never do, and you end up going into an office and applying again.

Samici-I'm confused. did you cross the border to activate your visa and then go back home to Canada? How are you waiting for your green card/ssn before you move?

Yes, I activated it 2 1/2 weeks ago. I was praying they were going to tell me it would be ok to come back and forth, and they did. Mine is an IR-1. (His exact words were: "Oh yeah, sure you can come and go as you please, you have an IR-1 visa." )I'm down in the US now, came through today, and showed them my visa/passport at the border this afternoon. No problems at all, and barely asked me anything. I'm hoping to find a job before I move, which I think I have a good chance at one, just waiting on my SSN, which isin't here yet. They are being sent to my husbands address in the US. (my future address)

Keep in mind Samaci that even if u ticked off the box on the form for the SSN (think it was form ds -230??) it may not come and you will have to go in person and re-apply for the SSN I had too. The SSn arrived 1 week later. One can download the SSn form from the govt site and take it with ya. http://www.ssa.gov/

Yeah, I know. I'm gonna head down next week and go into one of the offices to see if I'm in the system yet.

CanadaFlying to US -- border tips please
I agree with everyone else. Just be honest. I finally got my visa last month, but been married the last 3.5 years and crossing the border 2-3 times a month since then to visit him. I was always honest and told them that I was going to apply to move down there, or had applied for the IR-1... Sometimes they would ask how long ago I applied, they usually asked me where I worked, but I never had to show a pay stub (even though I had them). Sometimes I would have to pop open my trunk, I guess so they could see I only had enough clothes for a couple days, and not suitcases with my lifelong belongings. They just want to make sure you're coming back home, until you can legally move there.

This is not true. The deadline for the implementation of WHTI for land borders (the thing that requires passports to enter the US) was extended to April 30, 2009. On Jan 1, proof of citizenship (such as a BC) and photo ID will be required of all travelers at land borders.

really? I thought that bc as proof of citizenship had been required for years. I didn't realize that you could (theoretically) cross the border without any proof of citizenship right now.

its been required for the last couple of years now. BC and picture ID... Going through the British Columbia borders anyway...

I never had to do that. its weird, cuz on the SSN application, it states "address where your card can be delivered within the next 10-14 days", it doesn't ask for your HOME address. Seeing as my husband is deployed right now and no one there getting the mail, I had the card send to a friends address. The lady at the SSA office thought it was a good idea to do that too... and it arrived within 14 days..

I think honesty is always best, but if they ask you to show proof of ties (pay stubs, lease agreement, utility bills, etc), you might get stuck. You need to prove to them you ARE coming back home and not going down there to stay illegally... I would have some kind of paperwork to show proof. I have been going back and forth through the border for the last 7 years, and been asked every question!!

Hi and welcome Reeena... Just a thought.. My husband is US Military too. Until you found out where you might be stationed, do you have any family mbr's (parents or siblings) that you could use thier address in the US?
