No, there is no Vonage in Pinas. You have to order it here in the US and buy that Vonage box. I think we paid $70 just for that box. When we received that box, we called the customer rep of Vonage and they helped us to set it up, After the set up , we sent it to Pinas. Don't forget to inform them that you'll send it to Pinas because they will ask for some code located at the back of the box. We only paid $9.99 + taxes on the first 3 months of their service then $31 (including all the taxes) after the first 3 months. Btw, the customer reps of Vonage are Pinoys smile.gif

But we don't necessarily need to use Vonage here in the US, right?

Can my parents from the Philippines call me here in the US using Vonage?

Yep, I know they're Pinoys? I used to work for Linksys as a tech rep too and some of my friends for Vonage, ATT, Comcast, etc.

yes they can call you. I have a vonage phone here in the Phils. and i have same area code with my husband thats why its just like a local call, my husband called from his line or cell.....he doesn't need a vonage to call me

good.gif yes, they can call you anytime they want. it is unlimted call every month and not only that vonage users can also call UK, Canda, Puerto Rico etc for free. Just check out nalang their website hehe.

I agree with you in that. good.gif I guess those people who prefers to see the person they are talking to prefers YM Messenger and for people who prefers to pay minimal amount and are satisfied with MJ's service uses MJ and for those people who has parents like me uses Vonage laughing.gif i love my parents though tongue.gif

I have parents like you so may I know how much do you pay for Vonage? You parents are in PI, right?

Yes they are in PI. Marilyn is right, their monthly fee is $24.99 (including all their features) + taxes = $30 to $31 (monthly total)

Is there Vonage available in PI or I need to buy it here and send it to PI. That's cheaper than our monthly phone bill. I call my parents every other day and if i use MJ, i dont know how are they gonna install the driver in the PC, so i guess i'd prefer Vonage.

oops! i just asked my hubby and he said we didn't pay for the box. i checked our online billing history and i found out that the $70 that i was saying was our bill hehe. thanks for clarifying this Marilyn smile.gif

I have a question. Isn't your pc should be on to be able to use MJ? follow up question, Isn't you need to install software in able to make a call using MJ? smile.gif

Yes it should be on. But when its off, all incoming calls goes to your voice mail and will be sent to your email or you can retrieve it through your MJ phone when you turn your computer back on by dialing a 4-digit number. For first time users, when you plug MJ in the USB port it automatically installs the software and will have to go through the set-up process. We have one cellphone for emergency or mobile calls and MJ for a house phone. Everytime we go out, we have the option to forward calls to our cellphone.

Thanks for the info. My parents don't know how to use pc that is why we are using Vonage instead of MJ. Yes, Vonage is much expensive than MJ but in our case and in my opinion, Vonage is more convenient to use as you don't need to turn on the comp to make or receive a call. Another reason why i prefer Vonage is because what if the computer got messed up and it won't turn on? then that means no call? wacko.gif . But oh well, it is not that i don't like MJ but for us , Vonage is more convenient for my parents to use. smile.gif

Try to make her independent. I loved it the most, every woman is different but for me it was a blast to go on buses on my own, do the shopping on my own, even if its simple grocery shopping or buying cloths for me.

I walked a lot, trying to understand the roads and directions. Teach her how to pay bills online, how to use electrical appliances which she might not have used back in Philli. In Asian countries people aren't that used to canned food, so it might be a big adjustment for her. I am still not used to all the sodium infected prepacked food of America, I stick to my home cooking.

The more things you do on your own, you gain confidence, you know you can talk, communicate with people without any help. If her English is weak, let her take some classes.

Amen on the home cooked food. I want my pinay to stick to home cooked asian food diet. the western fast food, sodium packed diet is a killer and makes us all so fat.

PhilippinesText messages for evidence
If you'll run the Nokia PC Suite into your computer to see your cellphone's inbox this is what will appear on your screen.

You can not edit the message that was sent to you on this screen. The picture below is what will pop up on your screen if you'll click one of the messages that was sent to you. In this part, you can edit the message that was sent to you.

To prove that we constantly contact each other, I print out the summary of text messages i got (like the first pic above) and some of the text messages itself (like the 2nd pic above) for them to read. Sorry for the late post of this as I was busy this past few days.

I'm not familiar with using text messages as evidence of a bonafide relationship. Do they show both numbers that contacted? Can they be faked easily.?

I used text messages as an evidence of our relationship but it wasn't asked by the CO or the pre-screener from me. I used Nokia PC Suite Software as my cellphone was Nokia. Anyways, what can that software show to you is the sender's contact number, sender's message and the date and time the message was sent and no it can't be fake that easily.

I'll scan a sample of it tommorow. I can't do it now as it is already 2:03AM and I am sleepy *yawn* hehe.

PhilippinesReuirements for Philippines civil wedding
The USC should get Legal Capacity to Contact Marriage at the USEM. The requirements for getting it are: USC's passport, USC's Birth Certificate and USC's Divorce Decree. USEM is open every Mon- Fri except US and Philippine Holidays. There is a service fee of $30.00 for the affidavit. It only takes 10-15mins for them to release the Legal Capacity.

After obtaining the Legal Capacity, go to the Municipal Hall or Local Civil Registrar and apply for Marriage License. Here are the requirements in obtaining Marriage License:

For Filipinos
1. NSO Birth Cert
2. Parents' Consent (for 18-21 years old) or Parent's Advice (for 21-25 years old)
3. ID
4. CENOMAR (not all Local Civil Registrar requires this)

For USCs
1. U.S. passport
2. The Affidavit from the U.S. Embassy
3. A divorce decree or spouse's death certificate, if previously married;

NOTE: Under Philippine law, the legal age for marriage is 18. If the contracting parties are between the ages of 18 and 21, they must present written consent to the marriage from their father, mother or legal guardian. While any contracting party between the age of 22 and 25 must present written parental advice, i.e., a written indication that the parents are aware of the couple's intent to marry.

The couple MUST attend seminars (Family Planning and Pre-Marital Counseling) as this is also part of the requirements in obtaining Marriage License.

It takes 10-11 days for you to get the marriage license after submitting ALL the requirements (including the Certificate of Attendance in seminars).

Once you got the Marriage License then you are free to get married any time you want to.

*this is just based on my experience and my knowledge*

incorrect. not posting in a thread does not mean it will be closed.

Well just noting the differences and the diversity of Philippine culture. Thre are many different types and we often put all filipinas in one bucket. But now I see that their is a big difference. Like I am being told mostly the girls in the clubs are Visayan.

I can't believe you do not see that you are judging/belittling an entire population by the actions of a few of its members and justifying it by saying it is to make the rest of the population of the Philippines look better..Some have said that black men do not like to work like the other Americans but I did not post a thread attesting to the truth of it..BECAUSE I AM SURE THAT NOT ALL BLACK MEN ARE LAZY AND THAT ALL THE OTHER RACES ALSO HAVE THEIR LAZY MEMBERS.
Are you stoned? or just stupid? Greg (Pink's husband) & o0pink0o

Well I dont see anything wrong with saying something that they think is true....I don't think its anything wrong with saying that most black men dont like work, or that they are in prison, in fact there is alot of truth to this in many places in America. I am me, so why should I care about what people think of black men. If it dont stick to me, then why think its offending? You think I am gonna defend all black men.....lol or all Americans? Sorry I am not tribal...So why would you try to defend all filipinos, visayan, ilocano/a etc....?? i have not pointed a finger at any individual person...so why is your hair raised?

I am offended by all intolerance and ignorance that is spewed that hurts another..or others...whether its physical or mental or whatever...just because YOU dont feel its wrong doesnt mean it it doesnt hurt others..this OBVIOUSLY WAS gonna hurt people..Neither my wife nor I are Visayan, I am, of course, American..but what you said was offensive to us both...Rodney Kings beating was offensive to us as well..Any generalization of a people in a negative light is offensive to others......if they are tolerant and want peace with their brothers and sisters and truly believe that everyone is responsible for their own actions no matter what hole they had to crawl out of..everyone has a story and people are not THE SAME because they came from the same neighborhood..That's all the enlightenment i care to give you...I won't waste my time further on your gibberish...
