CanadaRescheduling Interview

You can call US embassy in motreal to reschedule ur interview. Tell them your st#pid lawyer did not inform you earlier.

Montreal will put the case at the back of the line if they reschedule.

CanadaRescheduling Interview
Get a flight booked NOW. Deal with the medical later. If you reschedule, you may not get another interview date for another 6+ months. There's someone who had to reschedule due to having a baby and they are still waiting for a new date... 5 months later.

Why did the lawyer get this information only to you today?

I'm sorry to hear about the treatment and the denial. I hope that this gets cleared up for you very quickly. Definitely see about lodging a complaint against the woman.

Thanks for the info! I'm under my husband's health care plan but maybe I'll inform OHIP after I get my conditional GC, just in case...

*bump*

So should I wait to get LPR status (conditional or otherwise) and then inform OHIP that I am no longer resident in Ontario?

I think you should be fine with saying yes and sending that stuff. Keep us updated!

And married in 9 days! Report back with photos! :)

CanadaFilling online for EI
Should be fine to file in French online. It's Federal so they should be equipped to deal with French applications since French is one of Canada's official languages. :)

The link is at the bottom of this page to start your claim: http://www100.hrdc-d...ench/home2.html

The only thing I might be worried about is them translating your U.S. address in French... that is, using "rue" instead of "street", etc.

Also you will want to send them a copy of something saying that K1s ARE employment authorised. I remember a few people had some problems with that.

CanadaCulture shock for Canadians in the US

They've tried to explain that it only accepts the real credit cards and not the bank visa type cards. Still don't know why it wouldn't do it as a regular ATM and I can pay with the debit, but it just doesn't take the card at all.

That happened with a friend of mine who was up visiting me from Detroit. The restaurant we were at didn't accept her "check card" as a debit transaction or a credit card transaction. It was an older debit card machine so maybe that's why?

It still boggles me that people even bother writing checks/cheques here! Just swipe your dang card already! sheesh! Banking is so far behind the times down here. :P

Seriously! It's unheard of to write a cheque in a Canadian retail store and has been for a long time. :)

I'm still getting used to the whole "check card" thing... like how it's not really like a debit card (but it is) and not really like a credit card... and getting asked if I want cash back each time.

I say zed and always use superfluous "u"s and generally use other British spelling like using "s" instead of "z" in words like utilise. My grade 6 teacher here in Toronto was from England so he hammered all of that into our heads. :)

What's funny is whenever I see "Checks cashed here" it always looks wrong to me and I always mentally think, "man, they don't know how to spell cheques". :P

That's funny, they have oven ready lasagna noodles in Kentucky. I always figure if we have it here they must have it everywhere else :)

What's the deal with not having "oven ready" noodles (e.g. lasagna noodles) in the U.S.? My husband looked at me like I was insane when we were in the grocery store and I was commenting about how they didn't have any.

And he still thinks I'm a freak about putting gravy on my fries. :D

I am pretty sure i have seen some down here in Los Angeles too....

although here is a good tip if you can't find any and have to use the other ones....

make the lasagna like you normally would using the uncooked, non-oven ready noodles.... just make sure you have enough sauce and leave in fridge for a few hours or overnight..... and then cook it like you normally would....

my mom always does this...

Maybe they just don't have it in VA? Couldn't find it anywhere... I ended up just cooking the noodles 1/2 way and then using them.

That is kind of scary that they'd ask for race on like everything! I figured it was probably illegal here (same with requiring an SSN on a job application or requiring your marital status).

On my marriage license there was something for race too, which I filled out, I just found it ODD... I didn't have to swear on a bible but I did have to take that oath swearing that we weren't incompetent or related to each other -- at which point I laughed since we are of different ethnic backgrounds.

Job application forms in the U.S. ... do they actually have checkboxes for race?

I've *never* seen that here in Canada, though it's been awhile since I filled out a job application.

CanadaGot my interview for Vancouver.....
Congrats! You'll do fine... they issue visas usually the same day at 2 p.m. so if you are booking a flight back, consider a later one so you have time to pick up your visa. Feel free to read my review of Vancouver in my signature. Also, you don't need to bring the x-ray but if you feel more comfortable bringing it, just roll it up and tie an elastic band around it.

Also, do NOT check your luggage! Keep your medical and paperwork on you on the plane as well as the "do not open" package when you get your visa. I guarded all that stuff with my LIFE until I crossed the border. Even in the hotel (I had 2 days there before my interview) I was tempted to put my paperwork in the hotel safe. :P

CanadaPacket3 contents and DS-156K Question
The checklist instructions can be confusing. Instead of saying something like "in duplicate", they should say "two copies" because I was looking forever for the form "DS-156 In Duplicate".

No seriously I was, until it dawned on me that they meant, print out 2 copies. :P

CanadaAPPROVED - THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Got my long Birth certificate from Quebec, translated ans notarized, in hand since August 2006  they even got a copy with the petition!

I got my long certificate too when I first joined this site and started reading ahead about packet 3. I had no idea that in Ontario the long certificate they keep and issue certified copies of are the ones that your parents fill out by hand! My mom made a few mistakes on it and had to scribble stuff out! :D

And oh dont mind me if I bring a Quebec's flag, its just more my color  But i got nothing against the rest of canada and NEVER ever wanted to get separated from it!!!

Of course you can bring it, it's part of your heritage! :)

Too bad you didn't have much luck with Vonage. I love it. I pay $40 Cdn a month for unlimited and I talk to my husband for at least 1500 mins a month.

I have Vonage (Canada) now and pay $40 for unlimited access for a month. I spend about 1500 mins on the phone with my husband each month.

CanadaEI denied?
Ohhh... I guess my friends I wrote cheques to in the U.S. were crappy customers. :P
misaFemaleCanada2007-02-18 22:14:00
CanadaEI denied?
Most banks should accept Canadian cheques though the waiting period for it to clear if over $500 is usually something like 30 days.

I've sent cheques to U.S. friends before and they've always been able to deposit, with no extra fee, but with a waiting period of 30 days.

Canada@ Dr. Seiden's in Toronto - photo question
You only need 1 photo. They stick it to your file that gets put in the sealed DO NOT OPEN envelope. If you want to pay for a second copy (where you can open it), it's $50 and they require another photo.

It was fairly busy when I went. Took 2 hours I think. I got there at 7:30 and got out at 9:30. Would have been out at 9 but I had to wait a long time to get blood taken for some reason.

CanadaFrigging Montreal!!!!
Just in case, try and get the letter from your ex while you're waiting the interview date simply because what you were told in writing (there is a record of that) is different than what they said verbally (which there is no record of). I only say that because I got conflicting things via phone and email when I spoke to Montreal initially about my case transfer, and what was said in writing to me was much more accurate than what someone told me on the phone there.

Good luck! :)
