Canada24 Signs You Might Be Canadian
My USC husband started saying "eh" sometimes. I always point it out when he does. :P

He should get himself a big ol' Canadian flag! :) I have one and the new place we just moved into here in has a flag holder outside. Though I think our house would probably get pelted if I put it outside. Hell, there's people here who still put up the confederate flag....

I'll add some to the list:

- You know who Dr. Penfield was and what he did.
- The log driver's waltz makes you smile.

and

- You know that "nice women don't want the vote."

:D

CanadaK3, Vancouver only
I did bring one too to my interview. They didn't ask for it and I didn't offer it up.
misaFemaleCanada2007-06-02 10:42:00
CanadaK3, Vancouver only
Yup, Montreal and Vancouver have entirely different requirements.
misaFemaleCanada2007-06-01 17:14:00
CanadaK3, Vancouver only
All packet 3 is the checklist (with links to where you can get the DS-230 and DS-156) and medical info. That's it.

DS-156K and OF-167 are only for K1s.

I-134 is not required for K3s going through Vancouver unless they have changed their policy. They did not ask or require me to provide any sponsor/financial information at all.

All that is required is what they will put on the checklist. Nothing more, nothing less. :)

CanadaJust to confirm: Should I still file my EAD first before AOS?
Yup, it's still the case. :)

CanadaUSCIS Fee increases and its affect on CR1 Visas

Just curious... Would you have to file the I485, I765 and the biometrics fee before July 30?

Say I file the I485 before July 30 for $305 and then file the I131 after July30 would I end up paying $305(new fee) I765 $340 (New fee) and biometrics $70? or do you pay all 3 together at the time of doing your AOS I485?

I doubt I will have my interview before the new fees increase but Im just asking ... maybe it will help someone who does manage to get in their AOS before July 30 :)

Anyone who has already gone through AOS please confirm?

The fees go up July 30, so if you file before they go up, you don't pay the increase.

If you file AOS before July 30th (you *have to* include the biometrics fee in there presently) and then decide to file EAD later (while AOS is pending), you'll have to pay the new fee for EAD. You're a K3 so you don't file for AP.

CanadaUSCIS Fee increases and its affect on CR1 Visas
The only other fee increase I can think of for CR-1 would be the I-130 petition. I didn't really look over new fee schedule so I don't know how much the increase is.

I think CR-1 will always be cheaper than K3 + AOS.

Also, it can take a VERY long time for them to forward an approved I-130 to NVC after you file to have it forwarded. I know that Stacey33's husband filed for hers to be forwarded months ago and it still hasn't been.

Definitely email them about if they received the fax okay. They'll usually tell you your interview date when they reply as well. :)

Canadadid i goof?
Vancouver only requires you to fax back the checklist along with the DS-230 Part I. Everything else you bring to the interview.

Canadaentering USA while having pending k1 visa
Bring your ENTIRE K1 case file as well as any correspondence from the consulate, etc. It helps to show that you'll definitely be back since your application is at the consulate.

CanadaMoving across Peace Bridge - Buffalo Border?
If your stuff is coming with you when you cross, there are no forms. Just make an itemised list of everything in your uhaul with approximate cost and tally it up. It helps them just look at it quickly to see what you're bringing over. They may or may not ask to see the list and/or your stuff.

Canadafinally

lolololol

now he just told me they almost gave him an EAD stamp.

looking at the passport stamp , it has all the info the I-94 would have .......I suppose if a person were to need an arrival/departure record ( which is all the I94 is) , this stamp could suffice

HA!

With AOS & EAD they specifically need a copy of the I-94 along with the number that is on it. He won't have to worry about that though.
misaFemaleCanada2007-06-03 14:12:00
Canadafinally
Ah, good good. Like I said, since he's going back to Montreal for CR-1, he doesn't need to worry about the I-94. LUCKY! :)
misaFemaleCanada2007-06-03 12:39:00
Canadafinally
Oh dear... he should have received an I-94. Though if he's going back to Montreal for the CR-1, then I wouldn't worry too much about it since he is not filing AOS and EAD (which asks for a copy of the I-94 and the number).

Well, at least he's there with you!

When they stamped his passport, they did put down the 2 year date right? That it's only valid for 2 years? I got the stamp and the I-94.
misaFemaleCanada2007-06-03 11:24:00
CanadaNew USCIS fees

It's good if it includes AP and EAD, at least! But then how long would we have to wait to be able to work?

Same time it takes now which is on average 60-90 days to receive EAD. I'd say closer to 90 days.

CanadaWhy did you choose the US?
Before you shut down your account, would you be receiving Canadian cheques anytime in the future? If so, you may want to keep it open and ask a family member or friend to deposit into your Canadian account. There's been lots of talk about depositing Canadian cheques into U.S. bank accounts. Some banks do it, others do not. I kept my Canadian account open and gave my sister my ATM card to do deposits. I transfer my money into my U.S. account through www.customhouse.com (no fees).

CanadaWhy did you choose the US?

I doubt Mel will let me leave the Country for a very long time :)

I am exchanging whatever money I have in my bank to American today!! I wanted to do it monday but the bank didn't have much american money on hand. The rate is awesome!!

So true... he's not letting you out of his sight!

And yes, the rate is soooo awesome. For us Canadians that is. ;)
misaFemaleCanada2007-06-06 10:06:00
CanadaWhy did you choose the US?

Now that the exchange rate is #######, everything just seems so much more expensive up here.

HA! I'm thinking the exchange rate is freaking AWESOME right now... if you're Canadian. ;)

My money was saved in Canadian currency so I've been transferring to U.S. currency now that the Canadian dollar is doing well. :P

I worry about going through some home sickness and having to adjust again when I get there.

I worry the most about one of the family dogs. She was my 18th B-day present, but this has always been her home. She will be 15 soon and I worry so much about if this is the last time I will see her. Even typing this brings tears to my eyes.

Aw Stacey... :(

Now that you have a K3, it's multiple entry even while you're adjusting status so you can travel back if you need to!

CanadaWhy did you choose the US?

I lived in Victoria for nearly 10 yrs!! Ur in for a wide awaening in Philly, if its like (maybe worse????) than DC!!

Ugh, I'm 2 hours south of you and I'm dying from the heat. And it's not even summer yet! :D

CanadaWhy did you choose the US?
My husband's job is specific to an U.S. industry and his certifications are not transferrable. My skills and background are transferrable pretty much anywhere.

We've talked about moving back to Canada at some point. Not sure when, but we'd probably end up on the west coast. Would be a change for both of us since I'm from Toronto.

CanadaApplication for Employment
One thing is, AOS might take a long time. Some people get held up in namechecks for a year or more, so filing for EAD is sort of a backup plan.
misaFemaleCanada2007-06-01 13:39:00
CanadaInterview Scheduled!
Maybe they are on their summer hours now?

Or maybe they are doing 2 sessions of K visa interviews... morning and afternoon? I know that they only do 4 k interviews at a time.
misaFemaleCanada2007-06-04 23:01:00
CanadaInterview Scheduled!

The questioning was really interesting- he had a great way about him and it just like having a nice conversation with someone you just met and they want to get to know you better. I remember him asking how we met- then he just draws questions from things that you answer. It seemed really natural and it was not bad to go through at all.

Yup, agreed because we had the same consular officer. :)

Honestly I think they are less interested in the actual answers and more how you answer it (e.g., tone of voice, body language, facial expressions, etc.). You can tell a lot about someone from those things over their actual words. I know at my old job when we'd interview people my boss would drag me in there (whether I had anything to do with the position or not) to do the "conversation" thing to get a better sense of the person.

CanadaInterview Scheduled!
Pretty much what Stacey33 said. K visas do NOT need to wait in line. Just show the security guard your interview letter and they will let you in.

E-mail the consulate about when they will issue the visa if it's a 1 p.m. appointment. And congrats on your interview date.

CanadaWITHDRAW I129F
Just curious, what does the I-130 say on it? Has it been forwarded to NVC or was it retained by USCIS? At this point I would not abandon the K3 either.

CanadaEntering the U.S. after NOA2...
Bring your entire case file as well including everything you got in Packet 3 which shows your in line for an interview back in Canada. I visited every 3 weeks and my last visit was 3 weeks before my interview date.
