I asked ......and no. if the CO said his name, Scott doesnt recall it. When he called back after the initial phone call from the CO, he asked if he could get the guys name and they said no......just send the fax to the IV issuance office. When Mr John Doe Co Officer called , he made it sound like it would be a rather simple quick process so hubby wasn't overly concerned.

UGH!!

Damn, that's too bad. I know about the email address convention since the guy who helped me with my transfer emailed me personally.

You never know though, they could get to his case this week. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! And him... since you might still kill and clone him... ;)

Hang in there!

Soooooooooo my husband faxed a letter from the release section to Montreal stating his release date, verifying his pending release etc etc. He also followed up with an email saying he sent the fax and could they verify the receipt of the fax and they replied as follows;

"Please allow several weeks to work on your case. I cannot verify if we received your fax till the case is being reviewed"

****sigh****

Geesh... does he have the name of the consular officer from his interview? Maybe he can err... try and contact him directly?

If their emails are consistent with Vancouver's, the email should be LastnameFirstletteroffirstname@state.gov. Soooo John Smith would be smithj@state.gov.

Thanks you guys .......Im glad it's finally going to be over. He called Montreal to inquire as to what exactly he'll require for them to issue the visa. They said anything that shows a confirmed release date AND they said he could fax it............i didnt they even had a fax machine there ;)

They do have a fax machine there... I have the number! Though they "lost" my fax request before... Hrmph. Anyway, have him email and call a couple days after he faxes it to make sure they get it. You know, it might be worth it for him to fax it and put on the coversheet that a copy will come by mail AND then FedEx a copy to them just to make sure they see it.

I'd still like an extra to do the dishes while he's doing laundry :D

I wonder how I could clone my husband. One could be walking the dog while the other scoops the litterboxes...

30 days from today is his release date :D

the thing that cracked me up was he needed to book an appt 10 days in advance to submit a memo.....friggin idiots

Stupid bureaucracy! But he'll be with you soon and you didn't have to kill or clone him! :)

I got mine through the Commissionaires. It's yellow and looks super ghetto. Their inkjet toner was all streaky and my picture on it looks horrible. I still had my winter coat and scarf on in it! :P

That wasn't the inkjet toner. That was greasy doughnut fingers.

Ha! When I got it, I was like, "man, a 5 year old could have done this on their computer". :P

I belive it has only beent he last while that CR-1's have been faster than K1, I know K1'ers were moving much faster than I, when I was going through the process, which always brougt up the arguement that the marriage based visas should be faster over a fiance visa, lol

Yup, I think the priority through every stage of this process should be:

1. CR-1/IR-1
2. K3
3. K1

aren't the other( non-immigrant) visas handled at every other consulate and the embassy.....Toronto Ottawa Calgary etc?

Yup! AFAIK, all consulates do the non-immigrant visas (except for Ks of course).
misaFemaleCanada2007-05-24 15:39:00
CanadaStaff shortage in Montreal
The way I figure it is that CR-1s/IR-1s take some sort of precedence over K visas (as they should, since they are immigrant visas) and that they have a certain amount of dates alloted for that per month which they schedule with the NVC around the 15th of each month. I think the standard is about 2 months from case complete at the NVC to interview.

NP, I was just looking for an excuse to transfer to Vancouver. Was worth a try

Heh. You'll get an interview before K visas do when your case is complete at NVC since they have a different waiting period with shorter interview times.

Canadawhat to bring when crossing the border
Heh, as far as I know they won't make you start over again, but you would have to get it resealed at the consulate. And you'd probably get told off too.

Canadawhat to bring when crossing the border
I read someone that someone's fiance here in VJ *did* in fact open it! Not sure what country they were from. I don't know if they made it to the POE but I believe they went to the consulate to get it re-sealed.

DO NOT OPEN IT! :P

I guarded my passport and envelope (mine was from Vancouver so it was in a white envelope) with my life until I got to the POE.

Our Mao refers to a "brown envelope" in this thread: http://www.visajourn...showtopic=67793

Did you get your passport back from Montreal yet? If not, they should be sending that back with something for the POE.
misaFemaleCanada2007-05-22 22:11:00
Canadawhat to bring when crossing the border
Don't CR-1/IR-1s get a sealed envelope along with their visa in their passport to bring to the POE? K1s and K3s do. It's got the medical info ####### in there with a bunch of other stuff like your application forms, passport photos (I snuck a peek when I was at the POE) and it says "do not open" on it.
misaFemaleCanada2007-05-22 22:06:00
Canadawhat to bring when crossing the border
Bring the sealed envelope too. :) You don't need to bring any forms if you're moving everything yourself. Just have an itemised list ready with approximate value of items to speed things along. They probably won't even ask to see it. They may not even look at your stuff. Not sure if they will issue you an I-94... if they do, it costs $6 or $7 USD. They may or may not photograph and fingerprint you. They didn't do that with me (entered at Peace Bridge, Fort Erie).

Bringing the approved petitions isn't necessary but when I crossed the border, I had my entire visa file with me just in case. All they really need is the visa in your passport and the sealed envelope.

Have a good crossing!

YES! I've heard that more times than I can count. I actually had a co worker ask me why he didn't just come over on a boat like some other immigrants have done. Sheesh!

HA!

I still get, "What do you mean you couldn't just move here/there?" and "I thought you would get an instant greencard when you got married". Um yeah, not so easy. Their eyes usually start glazing over after I start telling them about the I-130/I-129F... for the K3.

Enjoy your time with him and get off the computer! :)

Thinking about this all some more, a lot of people don't really understand how hard this is. Sure a long distance relationship is hard but it's certainly harder when you throw immigration into the mix. If I was in Toronto and he was in, say, Vancouver, I don't think it would be as hard because there would be no immigration hoops to jump through. We could have started our live together when WE decided on it, not the government. As Canadians, I know we are a LOT luckier than those who have to cross oceans just for a visit but it's still difficult being separated.

I hear all of you. I was lucky enough to be able to visit my husband every 3 weeks while we were in process. It was only for an average of 5 days each visit (the longest being 11 days over the xmas holidays). It was expensive, but worth it. Each time got harder and harder to the point where on the last visit I had a mild panic attack at the airport because I did NOT want to leave. I ended up cancelled my flight out that day and paid, FULL PRICE for the latest flight out the next day with another airline. It was worth it though for that extra day with him.
misaFemaleCanada2007-05-15 12:23:00
CanadaHow do you decide when to get married (the legal marriage) after interview?
First, investigate how long it takes to get a license in the area you're getting married in. Some places take awhile and some issue on the spot. I believe that some county clerk's websites also list all the JoPs that are licensed/certified/whatever in their area. That's how we found ours, through the county clerk's website.

CanadaHow do you decide when to get married (the legal marriage) after interview?

Did the Justice of the Peace cost much money? We were planning on just going to the courthouse/County Clerk's office...but would rather something more personal... I'm just concerned it might cost $100+ and we'd need to schedule him/her in advance.

You might want to start searching around now and have a list ready. You'd probably have to schedule in advance if you want them to come to your house. We got married by a JoP in his house. Cost us $75 and only 3 days in advance. Most of them just do it on the side for extra cash so if they can accomodate you, they probably will.

CanadaHow do you decide when to get married (the legal marriage) after interview?
Check out mercy's timeline (do a search for her profile). I believe she got married ASAP after entering and filed her AOS the same day (they picked up the certicate the same day as well from the courthouse).

CanadaPOE Peace Bridge
That's an interesting comment by CBP about how they're rolled up into DHS now. Maybe that's why there's so much confusion about whether they should or should not give out the EAD stamps now. With most mergers, people are always unsure about what they can continue to do and what they can't (just thinking about my experiences working for companies who have been acquired by others).

Glad your border cross wasn't all that bad. I wonder if we got the same guy. I was sent to #1 and then asked to go to #3 as well. The guy I dealt with (didn't catch his name) was super nice and friendly.

CanadaIncorrect postal code
I would think that the post office would figure it's a zero instead of a Q since that character is supposed to be numerical. But who knows, Canada Post sucks.

Have you or your fiance asked Vancouver to send a 2nd packet 3 with the correct postal code?
