CanadaLen's ranting time....
Ugh, sorry to hear about the frustration. Believe me, we all here understand! Vent away. And when you're done, vent some more! People who aren't/haven't been through this just don't understand how our lives hang in the balance while waiting for approvals, packets, interviews, etc.

Golddigger???? What a stupid comment. Because everyone knows that canada is a third world country with no womens rights and women in canada dont know how to make their own $. we sit and wait for american men to save us lol what a bunch of clowns

Seriously... he was like, "uh, she makes more than I do." I was pretty insulted at first when he told me and now it's just a running joke with us. I think his brother choked when I told him how much I used to pay in rent in Toronto. :P

But seriously, I wonder how many friends and coworkers of USCs think something like that when they find out their SO is from another country?

Has anyone dealt with people criticizing the USC spouse for being the main breadwinner while the spouse stays home and waits for the EAD? (Especially when the USC is a woman) My supervisor calls my husband (not to his face) lazy for not working and making me go to work by myself! He just doesn't get it...that he won't work illegally! What a jerk! He says stuff to get a rise out of people. I'm sure there are people on the VJ that get jabs like this all the time!

Not in my case. My husband made it clear to his friends and coworkers that I made 3x more than he did with my job in Canada and saved up a ton of money before I got here. Funny, their first thought when he told them he got married to a Canadian was, "oh be careful she's not a golddigger". *cough*... yeah, I don't think so! :P

That is just rude and totally inappropriate for your supervisor to be saying such things. Anyway you'd be able to report him?

I always think it's better to hope for the best, but expect the worst in these situations so you can have a pleasant surprise when they wave you through. ;)

You'll do fine! :)

A lot of us "cope" that way. The nervousness is normal. I was nervous at my medical when I knew that I had nothing to worry about. And I've been nervous entering the US through all this too, but I was always let in.

My husband doesn't understand this style of coping. When I fuss and talk endlessly about paperwork and all this ####### it's so I can "get it out", not necessarily that I'm super paranoid or something. I've tried to explain to him that it's a way of working this all out in my brain, but he just doesn't get it. Maybe it's a girl thing?

Misty, just know that she's a royal ###### and you're not. :) People really don't understand how difficult it is to be separated until they're in the same situation. A friend fo mine was dating someone who was living in the Cayman Islands and I didn't understand how much it sucked until I met my husband and had to deal with long distance. Lucky for her though, her man is a Canadian citizen and he moved back and they didn't have to deal with immigration.

Anyway, I understand the nervousness and anxiety and over preparation. It's my coping method for all this immigration #######. You'll do fine at the POE. Your case is complete at NVC which is a good indication you're coming back! :)

CanadaHope this is the right place, filing Fiance Visa while visiting US?

isnt it true if she went to the states just to visit and they find out her intentions where realy to get married she could face a visa fraud 5- 10 year bann ?? ( just a question )

No. There's nothing illegal about visiting. Or even visiting and marrying. The fraud is when someone enters as a visitor with the intent to immigrate/stay at that entry. I entered as a visitor and married and then I went back home to Canada. Lots of us here in the Canada forum who filed for a K3 or CR-1 entered as a visitor to the U.S. and married but we all went home to wait out the visa process.

Going back to Canada to work on a GC shouldn't be a problem if Animika chooses to (but doesn't sound like she will do that) after she gets a GC.

Neiks does that (or plans to) on a GC - working in Canada, living in the U.S.

Hey and welcome. :)

Yeah, you can't live in the U.S. until you have a visa in hand and the fiance visa (K1) is only good for one entry.

If you want to keep your Canadian job later, you're better off getting married first and then filing for a K3 or CR-1. Be aware that all options K1, K3, and CR-1 will take some time as you will interview at the Montreal consulate which is severely backlogged. Given the current times of the consulate I'd say at least 9 months... maybe more.

You can visit the U.S. though while waiting for your petition to be processed and waiting for the interview but you'll have to bring proof of ties to Canada.

Hope this helps and good luck with whatever you decide.

Nope, she can't work unless she has an EAD (which is why I asked about the stamp). But hey, you can cross "get an SSN" off her list!

You'll be fine. Just refax the checklist and the DS-230 (part 1) with a coversheet indicating you mistakingly faxed the DS-156. Vancouver is awesome to deal with. Trust me, it'll be fine.

It should say on your checklist under police certificates. Here is the K1 checklist for Montreal (states that you don't need one for U.S. addresses)

CanadaHow did you guys meet?
Oh, I loved Gabriel Knight 1 and 2. I never did get around to playing 3 though. I have the KQ anniversary set of all the games as well. I remember playing KQ1 on an old XT with a green monochrome monitor! Ooops, we hijacked the thread. :P

Back on topic! :D

I met my husband on a messageboard... not a dating site or a gaming site. :) I'm the resident ###### there and he's the resident jerk. We're perfect for each other!

CanadaHow did you guys meet?

Okay, both my fiancee and I enjoy computer games. In fact, we were playing them long before it become "trendy" to do so (such as with Myst or World of Warcraft or The Sims and other high-profile games) back in the 1980s, mostly with the Sierra On-Line's adventure game series.

(off topic) What was your favourite Sierra game back in the day? I was a King's Quest fan...

Also, I'm not sure if you want to bring the filled out K3 forms... if you get pulled into secondary and they search you, they may think that you are intending to stay even though a K3 is for when the beneficiary resides. It might just cause more problems than help.
misaFemaleCanada2007-08-10 09:30:00
CanadaIs this legal? To marry while on a visit, and file K3 while in US?

If you are planning on staying I think you can file AOS but am not sure. I am sure someone else here has done this so can give you the correct information. Good luck

No they cant file for AOS.....

If you cross the border or POE with the intent of getting married and remaining in the US you can not file for AOS that would be visa fraud...

Yes you can enter the US and get married and then return to your home country and file for a K3/CR1.... The only way you can do AOS without first getting a K1 is if you entered the US with no intent to marry and remain, but on the spur of the moment you get married... then you can file for AOS and remain while it is being processed...

You can visit and marry and then go back to Ontario after your visit and wait out the process (you can visit during the process too). That's what I did as well as many others. I would not tell them you're going to visit and marry though...

CanadaTerrible.

Thats true...cuz once i went to emergency in the US and i was asking the nurse "what if i didnt have insurance?" she said: "we have to give you emergency treatment, it is the law"

And then you get hit with the hefty bill...

Its not totally un-heard of for an Ontario hospital to ask for payment of patients who do not have an OHIP card, but that person usually gets fired later, and the patient can usually get reimbursement from their own provincial health office.

A friend of mine from the U.S. needed to get treated in Ontario during a visit. They didn't charge her at the time, just sent her an invoice by mail.

My husband said he wouldn't be surprised to see more stories come out like this (due to the release of sicko) that makes the Canadian healthcare system look like #######. So yeah, makes you wonder if it's even real or not. So many things don't make sense! And yeah, I looked up bus prices! I'm such a dork... :P

Heh, I also just checked bus fares from Collingwood, ON to (I picked a random city in NB) Fredericton... $236. Hmm...
misaFemaleCanada2007-08-09 12:46:00
CanadaTerrible.
I wonder what happened because yeah, you can get treatment in Ontario no problem if you're from another province. Perhaps the intake nurse was clueless or something.

Something's not really right about this story though. He says it took him 45 minutes to speak to a nurse... I am assuming an intake nurse? I've been to emergency before and I've never had to wait 45 minutes for intake. Anyone after intake doesn't look at your healthcard...
