CanadaCanadian Passport Dilemma...
Why don't you call the Canadian consulate in Buffalo to see if they will mail you a "in lieu of guarantor" form. Just tell them you don't drive and can't get out there and see what they say.

Secondly, if for whatever reason, they lose your Canadian citizenship card you can apply for a replacement. You don't need to live in Canada to apply for a replacement card.

Also, if you think that's complicated, you should look at the K1, K3 and CR-1 process and applications. That's FAR more complicated than getting a new Canadian Passport or Citizenship card! :P Compared to those, getting a new passport or citizenship card from outside Canada is a piece of cake.

Okay another thing, you can have a U.S. guarantor as well:

Eligible guarantors

Your guarantor must:

1. Be a citizen of Canada or the United States and must be accessible to Passport Canada for verification.
2. Have known you personally for at least two years.
3. Be one of the following:
* Chiropractor
* Dentist
* Judge
* Lawyer
* Magistrate
* Medical doctor
* Notary public (notarial seal must appear on the application form)
* Pharmacist
* Police officer
* Signing officer of a bank or trust company, or of a financial institution that offers the full range of banking services (cash withdrawals, deposits and savings)
* Veterinarian

As far as the lieu of guarantor, I don't think that it will delay the actual processing, just that you need to get the form from a Canada government office in the U.S. and sworn in front of someone there (if I'm reading it correctly):

http://www.pptc.gc.c...tor.aspx?lang=e

Declaration in lieu of guarantor

If you have not known an eligible guarantor for at least two years, complete form PPTC 132 "Statutory Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor" available from any Passport Canada service location or Canadian Government office in the U.S.

The "Statutory Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor" form must be sworn to or declared before, and signed by, a person authorized by law to administer an oath or a solemn declaration. If completed outside Canada, a qualified official includes a Canadian or British diplomatic or consular representative, or a qualified local official.

I answered in your other thread but I would go with the courier route. At work use UPS to send sensitive financial documents to people in the U.S. and so far, nothing lost. Which courier company did you use?

CanadaK3 visas only go through Montreal?
Your spouse *should* be interviewing in Vancouver. If the NVC does makes a mistake by sending it to Montreal (they shouldn't) that can easily be cleared up by contacting both Montreal and Vancouver but for now, just wait until she receives Packet 3 to see who it's from.

BTW, if your I-129F was approved by CSC, it may take a couple weeks before it reaches the NVC. CSC takes awhile before they send approved petitions to NVC.

K3s are interviewed in Vancouver too. What province is your spouse in? If they are in the western provinces (not sure where the cut-off is... is it MB or ON?), then they will automatically interview in Vancouver which is a MUCH MUCH shorter wait time. smile.gif

Hi i fianlly received package 4 and it states nothing about envelop. Pack 4 is a letter stating time and date, s well they say you do have to pay at scotiabank (effective july1, 2007).

do i eve nneed envelop ot is visa issued same day or pick up next. Does anyone know about what Vancoever does? Also, i saved 2 copies of my DS 156 forms, are these good or do i have to get new ones downloaded again.

I hope i have everything for interview next week.............me nerves are gone!!!!! (newfie slang) lol

You're going through Vancouver so they will do either same day pickup or next day pick up. If your interview is in the morning, then it's same day. If it's in the afternoon, then next day.

You should bring in 2 copies of the DS156. You did do the electronic version that has the barcode right?

You'll be FINE next week. smile.gif

CanadaWe got our interview date!
Congrats on the interview date!

When I went for my interview in Vancouver, I had the originals and copies together. Not sure how they do it in Montreal but they asked for them both at the same time (i.e., birth certificate -- original and copy) so if you keep them together there will be less fumbling. I also had everything in an accordian folder.

CanadaCourier for Toronto Medical
Does the doctor's office use their own courier service? If so, I would go with theirs. It shouldn't be more than $20. When I was at Dr. Seiden's they quoted me $20 (didn't use them though since I worked only a few blocks away).

The GC is proof that he is employment authorised so he can work with his SSN and the GC, *but* he should go to the SSA and get a new one based on his GC (it will be the same number). He should be able to get a new one with the stamp in his passport too prior to receiving the actual GC.

No, that's not true what they said though. It's not illegal to visit while a petition is processing (there's no guarantee that they'll let you in though). But even those turned away here on VJ have never encountered a "5 year ban". Most were told lack of ties (need to bring more evidence of ties to Canada) and a few were just told to come back when they had their visa in hand.

I visited every 3 weeks while my K3 was being processed up until a few weeks of my interview. No problems at all and they only inquired about my immigrant intent the second to last visit (to which I told them about the K3 and where I was in the process).

That's not true. It's not against the law to visit while a petition is pending. School on the other hand, I'm not sure. Maybe give the U.S. consulate a call in Vancouver and ask them?

Oh nevermind, this is what I found:

http://vancouver.usc...cument=canadian

Canadian citizens do not require a visa to study in the United States. If you plan to study, you should go directly to the border or the airport with proof of your Canadian citizenship, the I-20 form issued by the school (or Form DS-2019 in the case of a person going as an exchange visitor), and evidence of means of support. The educational institution in the U.S. should be able to answer all questions related to you entering the U.S.

He should get an I-20 form issued by the school I suppose.

In this case, he should tell the truth that he's there to study with the appropriate paperwork from the school.

CanadaVery concerned about the I-134...
Necrotica, looks like you'll be okay. :)

FYI, I don't believe the I-134 is legally binding but the I-824 at the AOS stage is and they require lots of proof of income at that stage.
misaFemaleCanada2007-07-23 10:04:00
CanadaVery concerned about the I-134...
I guess the question for those who have already interviewed in Montreal is: did the consulate want to see an updated I-134 and updated supporting documents?
misaFemaleCanada2007-07-22 17:13:00
CanadaProof of Documents

hmmm... Montreal consulate website states that Visa applicants will be required to bring proof for the following...

Records of employment
Old pay stubs
Old lease agreements/home ownerships

etc etc

What happens if I am unable to provide all this documentation? I never keep anything like these things!

AGHHHH!!!!!

For what type of visa applicant does it list that for?

ETA: Just read your other post. Disregard that. K visas are NOT processed the same way other non-immigrant visas are processed. Just follow what is on your checklist. They will not ask the beneficiary for proof of employment or rentals. Those really only apply for people wanting to get other non-immigrant visas.

They don't check on that stuff, just estimate if you don't remember. If you were unemployed for a certain period of time, put that in too and try not to leave any gaps. If you were unemployed because you were going to school, then write that down too - "Unemployed. Attending school."

Okay, I'm a little confused. Your fiance is a refugee living in Canada, correct? Do they have permanent resident status yet? Are you a US citizen? Are you wanting to bring your fiance to the U.S. or are you wanting to join your fiance in Canada?

Oh, I had a "small world" incident too. One of the vet assistants/techs at the new vet I brought my dog too is from Ontario and has been here for about a year and a half. I was going to ask her "what visa?" but thought that was pushy. She did mention she was here for school so I think she's here on a student or work visa.

Mephys, I thought of you when I was at the vet clinic thinking how cool it would have been if YOU were the vet tech there. :)

CanadaWhat Vaccinations do i need for CR1
You can get yours done by a family doctor. If you don't have one, you can call the public health department and ask them where to get them because they are supposed to all be covered by provincial health care.

CanadaWhat Vaccinations do i need for CR1
Here it is. Click on your age group: http://www.panelphys...munizations.htm

In Ontario vaccinations are covered by OHIP as is antibody titre tests. But don't get the vaccinations AT the medical (I think they might charge you for that), get them from your family doctor before your medical and get documentation from them.

One annoying thing that I ran into was that I was previously vaccinated against measles and rubella (german measles) but at the time when I was a kid, they weren't doing mumps vaccinations. So I had to get the MMR because there is no separate mumps vaccine.
