Heh, pretty much the same here except replace "yellowstone and microbiology" with "cooking websites". My CO did ask when we got married (looked on the file when I answered) and few other standard questions but I'm convinced he already had his mind made up before even seeing us. Although I will say that I do hope my upcoming AOS interview next week is going to be as much of a rubber-stamp deal as my K3 was.

the interview thing really pisses me off. it was a total joke. there was no reason for us to go to Montreal for that lame of an interview. If the US really wanted to speed up processing, they would start waiving spouse visa interviews unless there were glaring flags suggesting the marriage is fraudlent. And have all applicants fill out all forms and pay all fees at the beginning of the process, like Canada does.

From what I've seen with interviews here where all paperwork is in order, etc., they've already made up their minds before you even get to the interview. Everything they ask is just a formality. I understand needing to verify identities of whether you're actually the person in the petitions, etc. but seriously, can't they just do that step (checking your passport with your file and taking your index print) at any consulate?

I'm not annoyed by others who do things differently... well unless they're totally blatant about it like, "I don't care, I'm just going to do it this way even though I'm totally lying at the POE." I'm not annoyed by EWIs either as their situation is completely different and I sure as hell wouldn't trade places with them ever.

What I am annoyed at is USCIS, DHS and the DoS and whoever that decided that family-based visas take a backseat to other visas that take a shorter amount of time. Everything is so damn backlogged, all the fees went up and the process itself is just... someone said it recently... like paper cut torture, slow, painful, archaic, inefficient -- come on ####### is up with how the NVC processes petitions for CR-1/IR-1? Ridiculous!

Ok, so if I understand correctly, whether one fills the YES box or not doesn't really matter.... hmm.... so one should go to the local SS office as soon as one gets there????????

You may want to wait until after you get your GC in the mail. If you go too early, you won't show up in S.A.V.E.

I think you need to apply at the SSA office like you had never checked that checkbox.

You can try calling the local office first: https://s044a90.ssa..../FOLO/fo001.jsp

Here's a link to the application page: http://www.socialsec...nline/ss-5.html (you have to download the PDF and fill it out).

This is great, thanks Misa! So would the code for the ROE be "E" (Quit) or "K" (Other - explain in box 18)?

Mine said "E" but box 18 was also filled out "Relocation due to marriage". I told HR & Payroll to make sure it had that notation. Something I learned here on VJ months ago... "relocation due to marriage" is a valid reason for quitting and still being able to collect EI.

FWIW, I'm not currently collecting EI but my claim is open. I've got my EAD and I'm making money, the claim is still open in the event that I cease working before my claim is up (1 year from... I think the last day of employment with my previous company).

Looks like I'll be in this boat soon as well. Just wondering if by law your employer has to give you a copy of your ROE or do you have to ask for it specifically? Also, when they list "Relocation for Marriage" is that just added to a comment section? I work for a large company and everything here is done electronically so I want to ensure that my reason for quitting is documented!

Thanks!

They have to give you a copy of your ROE by law and within a certain period of time. Yes, tell them to mark down relocation for marriage in the comments section. Payroll will know what to do. Follow up with them if you need to.

CanadaI NEED HELP
Misty gave some great advice. Since you've already filed the I-130 I am pretty sure you are ineligible for a TN work visa as you've shown you have immigrant intent.

The only other thing that could speed up your K3 is finding family or friends that live in western Canada... if you change your address to theirs when you file the I-129F, you can interview in Vancouver which schedules interviews MUCH faster than Montreal. And when I say "much faster", about 4-6 months faster.

CanadaToronto Medical
I was going to try and get it reimbursed by Sun Life but decided not to bother since it's like pulling teeth getting money out of them. I think it's kind of ridiculous that Dr. Seiden's doesn't provide a breakdown of what they did.

Did you get your medical back? You should have also received photocopies of the chest xray results and the blood tests. Maybe try and submit that with your insurance company and see what they say?

UGH! I'm sorry to hear that court didn't go well. How stupid of them to accuse of something from St. Catharines when you have never been there. Also the comment about the Canadian border wasn't even part of your case. Hopefully you can get this resolved and that your lawyer can get you out of this mess.

CanadaInterview going through Montreal instead of Vancouver?
I think the last of the 2 month waiting for CR-1 interviews group was Our Mao and Riblet earlier this year. Then interviews just ground to a halt...
misaFemaleCanada2007-08-17 10:15:00
CanadaInterview going through Montreal instead of Vancouver?
Yup, her CR-1/IR-1 interview will be in Montreal (no choice in that matter). If you continue to pursue the K3, it will be in Vancouver. You've still got several months of processing the CR-1/IR-1 through the NVC though even before it gets to Montreal.

At this point, the K3 will go to the NVC and then directly to Vancouver. So given the current timeframes, probably 2 months for an interview from today provided she returns the checklist and other required docs to Vancouver in a speedy fashion.

The CR-1 will be a few months at NVC and then waiting for an interview at Montreal. They've been agonisingly slow this summer but previously they've scheduled around 2-4 months from case complete (longer this past spring/summer though).

Good luck deciding which route you'll take. You could always take both though... get her to the U.S. faster on the K3 and fly back to Montreal for the CR-1 interview. Sure beats doing AOS.
