CanadaNneeds some reassurance
I'm another that got married in the U.S. on a visit, then went back home to Canada. I visited every 3 weeks while the petitions were processing. I always brought a ton of evidence that I was returning to Canada and was only asked about whether we'd filed a visa on the 2nd to last visit.

We didn't want to do the K1 because we wanted to be married first and also I didn't want to get stuck in the U.S. while waiting for AOS.

Oh misa, that sounds like a cool game! Will definitely look it up. good.gif

I tried playing Uru (which is one of the games from the Myst series) but again, couldn't get into it - I think it was way too hard for someone like me to figure out. biggrin.gif

Here's a review for Evidence: http://www.adventure.../article/id,708

I haven't tried Uru but I breezed through the website. I know that Uru was supposed to be an online multiplayer game but the first one shipped as a standalone. It deviates a little from the original Myst games because it's 3rd person rather than 1st person.

Errr... okay, I am such a nerd. I shall stop talking about games now.

Um, at the garden centre yesterday we picked up seeds for peas, spinach, cauliflower and mixed salad greens. Hubby is out planting them right now. smile.gif

Re: The games I bought yesterday.

I just quickly installed Evidence: The Last Ritual and it's unlike any adventure game I've ever played. It's interactive in the fact that you are sent "clues" and "correspondence" from people working on the case and the serial killer by email. Very cool!

I haven't started really playing any of them because I'm playing Day of the Tentacle (classic!). Recently finished Myst: Revelations and Gabriel Knight 3 (they need to make a GK4!).

Oh... I also went to Best Buy and bought 4 games... I used to be a big adventure gamer but seems like I'm back at it!

FWIW, I got Evidence: The Last Ritual, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (which also includes the first game), Murder on the Orient Express and Secrets of Atlantis.

Try this recipe! It's nice and flakey. My first batch was a little tough but I totally overworked the flour.

I think there's pillsbury down here but I stay away from a lot of processed foods, especially here since there's so much damn ####### in stuff like high fructose corn syrup!

Anyone care to share some biscuit recipes?

This is the one I used last nght and turned out really good.

Flaky biscuits

2 cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening, chilled and cut into 1/4" cubes
3/4 cup cold soy or rice milk (unsweetened)

1. Mix the flour, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl.

2. With a pastry cutter or 2 butter knives (or in the food processor)s, cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse oatmeal.

3. Mix in the cold soy milk with a fork until mixture is just moistened and let rest for 1 minute.

4. Gently roll out about 1/2" thickness onto a floured surface and cut out about 12 biscuits around 2" x 2". Or if you're lazy like me, just divide dough into 12 pieces and gently shape 12 disc shapes 1/2" thick.

5. Bake at 450 for 10-15 minutes until lightly golden and knife or toothpick comes out clean.

Mmm... my biscuits were really good today. I used a different recipe that called for shortening instead of oil. It was a lot yummier. This is only the third time I've ever made biscuits. Never made them before I moved down here... it's a southern thing!

I saw some disco belles ( I really like disco belles!) on sale at the home depot. Too bad I don't have that much time these days to look after the garden, most of my bananas, papayas, passifloras, etc. are gone. I'm down to a few figs, one big frangipani and some small cuttings I brought back from Florida.

I love my cats, skf;sj;jswng;m 432423429 especially when they try to help me type on the keyboard.

I had to google disco belles, those are pretty! I had some hibisicus and canna lilies that flowered earlier this summer but after they were done they haven't rebloomed.

My two pepper plants are full of peppers! Hungarian hot wax peppers to be precise (they're only "medium hot"). Should be harvest time in a couple of weeks. Fall flowers are now selling at the garden centres too so I'm going to get a bunch to replace some of my summer annuals that aren't doing so great right now.

And it's not melt-on-the-spot hot outside anymore which is nice.

Err, I have nothing else to add except I'm making biscuits for dinner tonight.

Try and get your photos done tonight as there's no photo place open near Dr. Seiden's office that early in the morning.

Do you have a copy of the checklist you sent back to them with your case number written on it? You could bring that too. I mean, even if you had handwritten your own case number on it, the checklist is still a department of state form.

CanadaReceived IR1 visa...
1. X-ray not needed (keep it though) to "activate". Just the passport with visa and sealed envelope. Entire case file also not necessary but might be good as a "just in case".

Everything else looks good. Make sure your dog's rabies shot was at least 30 days prior to crossing (CBP info on dogs). Also don't bring that much dog food with you. There's a maximum you can bring but I can't remember what it is. All I know that I had too much cat and dog food with me but they let it slide (3 cases of canned cat food, 8 lbs of dry cat food and 20 lbs of dry dog food and a ton of rawhide chews and cookies).

The only thing else I can think of in regards to your dog is his/her bowls, food, lots of bottled water, leash and doggie bags for rest stops.

2. Petitioner doesn't have to be there. smile.gif

Maybe someone can clarify whether or not an IR-1 will be issued an I-94. At most border crossings there is a cost to the I-94 which is in USD ($6 I think). So if he is going to be issued one and have to pay for an I-94 make sure he's got some U.S. bucks with him. Any CR-1s/IR-1s here that can clarify the I-94 issue?

3. Not sure...

4. Should not be a problem. I believe several CR-1/IR-1/K3s have done just that -- neiks is one that comes to mind.

No, she's going over to have a big party. It's not a legal wedding or anything and she's not staying.

Jeremy, will they be bringing their dresses and stuff with them? You *might* want to head across the border and drive that across yourself as the USC.

They can say they are going to a party (true) if asked. How often does she normally cross or do you do all the crossing? Can she have one of her bridesmaids drive? They're going to a friend's party (true).

CanadaFrom here to I-130.....
As far as I can tell there is no official policy on the 30/60/90 day rule as far as USCIS. There's been extensive talk about it in the AOS forum. However, I agree with not raising any red flags. Of course I'm no lawyer or expert but I wouldn't think that it would apply to someone's minor son though? I mean, what kind of a jerk would deny the application?

Hey Debbie, I don't think you mentioned it anywhere but you are only petitioning for your son, correct? Not a spouse or anyone else? I'm sure you've already looked into this but is there a loophole anywhere about minor children of a USC being able to move with their parent? At 15, he's not allowed to live on his own in Canada and you're a USC. Just a thought (though I'm already sure you thought about it).

Hopefully the lawyer will have some good news for you! smile.gif

And you are right, we are pretty close to the interview date so there is no sense in trying to get it transferred to Vancouver, thanks for the advice though.

You can ask Liz to update you in the Mtl Timeline thread and she'll work her magic on the spreadsheet.

Since you're so close to getting a date, you may want to start calling and emailing Montreal to find out your interview date prior to receiving the letter in the mail.

Just wondering how long it takes to get an interview after you send back packet 3? Will they contact me by mail to my Canadian address or to my fiance at his U.S. address? How long after they notify us will the interview be? Thanks.

Hi Lisa, it'll take Montreal about 4-6 months (closer to 6+ months) after they receive packet 3. They'll send the Canadian the interview letter by mail... you may want to click on this thread: http://www.visajourn...showtopic=39547 (really only look at the later pages) and liz's handy dandy spreadsheet: http://spreadsheets....HOCavn_ONGctqIg

Do you have a friend or family in one of the western provinces? If so you could "move" (*cough*) out there and get your case transferred to Vancouver for a faster interview (1 month from them receiving packet 3).

ETA: Just checked your timeline so a transfer probably isn't worth it at this point. Hope that you get an interview date soon!

Tell me about it. Planning a wedding on each coast with a Chinese mother and a Jewish mother-in-law is a world of interesting in itself. ;)

My sister had the same problem. What they ended up doing was 2 receptions... a big Portugese one the night of the wedding and then a big Chinese banquet the week after. They could not get married in her (now ex) husband's church though as she's not Catholic so they did the ceremony at a Unitarian church.

I, on the other hand, had none of that. Got married on a visit, no witnesses, nothing. I didn't even dress up. :D
