Does the doctor offer "premium" service for an extra charge to get your medical sooner? Might be worth it to ask about that.

One more thing I though of. Are you flying to Calgary for the medical or driving? Maybe you can compare the prices of flights from SK to Vancouver and SK to Calgary. The doctor in Vancouver does same day results, so maybe you could fly to Vancouver for the medical instead if you're flying and the costs are comparable. smile.gif

I didn't know that you could request interview dates in Vancouver.

Yup! good.gif There's a line that you fill out for requested dates. The consulate isn't that busy with K interviews. They only do 4 K interviews a day but the day I went there were only 3 of us. Stacey33 got her interview 9 days after sending in P3 because they had a slot open.

(sorry Montrealers...)

If the stuff is accompanying you, you make the list yourself. If it's being shipped after you enter, they there is an official customs form for that.

Canadasome news?!.. a whole lot more!!
jenmac75, I saw this on the board recently (within the past month, can't remember which forum it was in) regarding North Carolina, SSNs and marrriage licenses. I can't remember what the end result was but you can apply for your SSN 2-3 weeks after entry and it'll take about a week to get to you. Then you can go down to the county clerk's office and get the marriage license.

Canadasome news?!.. a whole lot more!!
Congrats!

Reorder your to do list though. Go to the SSA in 2-3 weeks and get your SSN. If you go too close to the expiration on your I-94, they won't issue you an SSN until you have an EAD or SSN.

See this guide: http://www.visajourn...h...om&page=ssn
misaFemaleCanada2007-09-05 09:02:00
CanadaAfter the move here are some QUESTIONS...
Apply for SSN after 2-3 weeks upon entry.
http://www.visajourn...h...om&page=ssn

Apply for AOS, EAD, AP all at the same time as soon as you can get everything together (including a copy of the marriage certificate). The AOS fee covers fees for all three. You should send them all in the same package but separate them within the package since they are separate applications (you'll need copies of some of the same things for each application).

Not sure about the name change. She's the USC right?

CanadaExpired passports, AOS, and AP

Yeah. It's pretty annoying being stuck between a rock and a hard place all the time. The US immigration process is kinda like death-by-paper-cuts. Slow and painful for the person going through it but invisible to the average bystander.

:D

That is soooooo true. I think in some ways it is even worse for the CR-1/IR-1 applicants. That whole, send this in ...then wait... then we'll send you this... then wait, then send us this... and here's your barcode... then send us this... etc.

You may want to ask the AP/valid passport question over in the Working and Travelling forum. The thing is that you do need a valid passport to travel to Canada and back by air don't you?
misaFemaleCanada2007-08-16 09:39:00
CanadaExpired passports, AOS, and AP

DO NOT RIP PAGES OUT OF YOUR PASSPORT!!!!!! The passport then becomes damaged, the missing page becomes HIGHLY suspicious and it causes more paperwork and problems for you.

Good to know!

Yeah, the I-94 is just stapled in your passport but the visa itself is stuck on a page... I just wonder if Passport Canada would have a problem if you ripped the entire page with the visa out. :P What would happen if you did that and sent it in? When you go in person, they don't look at all the pages, just the biographical page and they cut the corner to "invalidate" it.

Hopefully by the time my passport needs renewing it won't be such a hassle from the U.S.

When I went for my medical (Dr. Seiden's), all I had was a letter from my doctor, bad photocopies of vaccination sheets from Women's College Hospital (she's a GP there) and titre test results. Looked pretty ghetto. Erm... as others have read about my non-invasive medical at Seiden's, she just asked if I had brought records and barely looked at my stuff and checked off that I had everything except for the ones that weren't age appropriate...

That should be fine as it's on an official Ministry of Health form. He should bring that along with the updated tetanus record when he goes for his medical at the panel physician.

I know personally I didn't get a copy of my medical except for the vaccination blanket waiver sheet. Awhile back another VJ'er was able to get a photocopy of her results from the POE, though I never understood why she needed it.

It's because USCIS keeps losing people's medicals so if they can't get a copy from the panel physician when they do AOS, they have to pay for another medical in the U.S. from a civil surgeon which can run anywhere between $100 to $300+ for their (USCIS) mistake.

cdancer's medical was "missing" as was jq_am's wife's medical.

What is with these doctors not giving/selling copies to people? As a K3, you don't need to do a new exam for AOS. The issue is that USCIS routinely loses medicals handed over at the POE (it will be in your sealed envelope you give to the POE).

I guess I should ask here instead of making a new topic - we live with my mother in law. We don't have any bills, only bank statements. Should we bring those statements in if we don't have anything else?

The more evidence, the better. Bring in anything and everything that has both your names on it. You may also want to consider asking her to draw up a rental agreement. Are you on your wife's health insurance? Car insurance?

Get your mother-in-law, other family, mutual friends, etc. to also write a letters on your behalf attesting that your marriage is bona fide. Have your friends and other family mail you the signed letters and address the envelopes to both of you. You can use the postmarked envelopes as separate evidence (I did).

To make their life easier, make photocopies of all originals so they can keep what they want. With my future in their hands, I'm all for making things smooth and speedy for them!

Misa..where art thou??? haha My question is...my husband and I haven't been married all that long. 3 months. So, there are some utility bills that we just got changed into my name. Do you think it's going to be a problem if we show only, say, one example of a joint Comcast Cable bill from September? I couldn't get on the verizon plan without a SSN, as misa said happened to her as well. I'm on the electric bill but by the time of the interview I will only have..maybe three of them. Will that be a problem?

Congrats! I was out at the garden centre but I'm back now. tongue.gif

Okay, the stuff I brought to my interview is linked in my signature but I also brought letters from friends and family attesting that our marriage is bona fide. I also got them to mail the letters by USPS and address it to both of us. I used those postmarked envelopes also as separate evidence.

Do you have a joint bank account? Health insurance? Photos? Scour your house for anything with both your names on it. Invitations to events (even if it's by email).

I think you'll be fine though. At the end of the day, you can only provide what you have and these dumb companies won't easily put us on the accounts without an SSN and/or running a damn credit check.

You may want to ask in the AOS forum for those who adjusted from a B2 whether it's a good or bad idea to bring evidence of relationship prior to you coming to the U.S.

CanadaNneeds some reassurance
I'm another that got married in the U.S. on a visit, then went back home to Canada. I visited every 3 weeks while the petitions were processing. I always brought a ton of evidence that I was returning to Canada and was only asked about whether we'd filed a visa on the 2nd to last visit.

We didn't want to do the K1 because we wanted to be married first and also I didn't want to get stuck in the U.S. while waiting for AOS.
