It's 36 C right now (feels like 39 C). Ugh... I thought my 12.5 year old dog was going to collapse on his walk even though we cut it short.

I will tell you though that I will NOT miss Ontario winter cold snaps (like when it goes below -20 celcius). When I was here for Christmas, it was 18 celcius! :)

*waves* Hey everyone! My husband-to-be is from Chilliwack too! He's living in Surrey now, but will be coming to Louisville, KY when all the waiting is over. :)

I had my first trip to Canada in May/June and I didn't wanna leave! I completely fell in love. We spent most of the time in Surrey/Vancouver, but visited Chilliwack for a few days as well. Honestly, if it weren't for the children/ex-husband issue, I would be moving there instead of vice versa. Maybe in the future...

I had to bring home a big can of Tim Horton's coffee... *giggles* I'm addicted!

One of the K1 girls I was with at the interview with got hers in 3 months!!! I was amazed. She lives in Vancouver, her fiancee in Boston.

I got my K3 in 4 months... would have been 3 months if Montreal didn't take so long to transfer my case. ;)

If you don't get an interview letter for your I-485 by November 11, go back to Infopass. There's not much they can do in the interim since you've been given the standard line of 60 days after they resumed processing when they received your RFE. But hopefully they'll schedule you soon. Is your local office a busy one? Maybe that's why there's been delays in getting an interview scheduled. I doubt very much you'll be approved without an interview since you adjusted from a visitor. Looks like the only ones really to get approved without interview are those adjusting from K1s.

Yeah, that's where the filers threads fail... because you can't rely on other people's AOS experiences. It's all dependent on several things:

- being transferred to CSC (seems like 50%+ of K1s are transferred)
- namechecks
- RFEs
- and if you're waiting for an interview date... it's ALL dependent on your local office

Your status online will not change when an interview letter is generated. Sometimes the date is updated but the status itself will not change... so stop checking your online status! Do you know the timelines for your specific local office? Some busier ones take MONTHS to issue an interview date. Some slower ones only take a month or so.

As for your EAD, did you ever get "card production ordered" or that it was approved online? Or was it only a verbal confirmation? Hopefully you get something soon!

CanadaRenewing Canadian Passports in the US.
Now I'm just rambling! :D
misaFemaleCanada2007-01-26 18:02:00
CanadaRenewing Canadian Passports in the US.

Actually, it is not considered 'renewal'. Canadian passports cannot be renewed - you get a whole new passport each time and the process is the same as if you had never had a passport before. Part of this is for the security aspects, as is the 5 year duration of the passport. You shouldn't have a problem 'renewing' your passport from the US as per the directions given in the posts above. Make sure you follow the photo guidelines exactly because that is the most common reason for a passport application to be sent back - the photo isn't a good enough quality or the exposure is wrong or the person has shadows on their face - and now, if they are smiling!

No, I know what you mean, but there has been talk that people, who have a current passport, looking to get a new one (technically not a "renewal", but it is, because you know what I mean) will not need to jump through the same hoops since there is already information on file (and you need to tell them what your previous passport number is and they invalidate it when you bring it in). I know I read it on some government site... back in August, that they are going to reduce some of the requirements if someone already has a valid Canadian passport that is going to expire in the near future.

CanadaRenewing Canadian Passports in the US.
I remember reading somewhere that the Cdn. Federal government was going to streamline passport renewals since they have all that information on file still (i.e., your birth date, guarantor, etc.). Not sure when they will implement it though because the guarantor thing is a pain in the ### if you are just renewing, same with showing your original birth certificate. Seems silly since you are renewing a federal piece of photo id, so why can't you use your current passport to prove it's still you? If that made sense...

CanadaI will need to file another form I 212?

Thank you for telling me all of this. To say it has knocked the hope out of me is an understatement. The actions taken by us six years ago is now the death of any chance of me joining my husband in the U.S. He had immigrated to Canada two years ago and left again this past February stating he could not live anywhere but his home in Texas. He will not move back here. :crying:

Even given these circumstances that you cannot go back to the U.S. he wouldn't move to Canada for you? I hope that you both can work this out.

comments by particular officer can be entered into the system..

That's what I figured because one officer asked me a lot about my K3 (I told him we were in the process) and he was satisfied that I was telling the truth after asking me a ton of questions (not in secondary) and I think he put something positive in there for me because the next visit the officer asked me right off the bat if I was visiting my husband and if I had an interview date set yet. I told him yes and the date and he just wished me good luck and a good weekend. :)

CanadaMoving: Canada to USA. What company did u use to ship ur stuff?

I was considering UPS to ship my computer, but now I'm rather hesitant. I know they'll insure it if I let them package the tower, but neither do I want broken bits when I get to PA. *sigh*

Take it apart and bring the cards and the HD with you. Let UPS ship the case, power supply, monitor, keyboard and mouse.

CanadaMoving: Canada to USA. What company did u use to ship ur stuff?

While using Upack, is it possible to have my stuff shipped before actually moving to the US ?

My situation is as follows. Im moving back with my parents at the end of July because my lease ends and I can't renew it for an undetermined period of time. At first, we thought we'd store my belongings in a Uhaul storage center until it was time to move, rent a Uhaul and cross at the POE when I get my visa. Then my husband suggested that he and his dad come up, rent a Uhaul in Montreal, take my stuff and bring it to Burlington, transfer it to a new Uhaul truck and return the first truck to Montreal and go to Colorado with the one rented in Burlington(from my understanding, we'd save 1000$ doing so, dropping from 3000$ to 2000$). Im still waiting on my estimate from Upack, but if there's a big difference, I'd most likely consider it. My question is though, can I send my stuff to my inlaws house through Upack months before I move(therefore not have to store it here in Montreal until my Visa is approved) ? Is that possible ? Or I need the Visa to be able to send my stuff ?

No can do! You have to have a proper visa in hand to be able to ship your stuff over. Sorry. :(

Quick note about ABF Upack. The last item on the quote (number 9) says:

All U-Pack shipments are quoted in U.S. dollars. Any applicable custom fees are not included.

Nini, if you are moving your computer, I'd strongly suggest that you disassemble it, pack the HD and cards and bring them across the border yourself. Or at the *very least*, just the HD. Reassemble it later when the tower arrives.

CanadaDS-156K

I think Pakistan must have different procedures. Canadians going to the US consulate in Montreal are saying otherwise on this forum.

Quite possible.

I am going by what's written in the directions of the DS-156K Form (check out their required documents needed by the beneficiary), and what the i-134 requires as part of the affiv. of support required by the petitioner

all the best..
Winning23MalePakistan2011-10-12 22:45:00
CanadaDS-156K

But why does DS-156K ask for it? and then have them not expect it. It's kind of confusing .. don't want to risk getting and RFE for a stupid mistake like that you know? Is there any reason why the form would ask for that?

Your finance in the USA should have mailed you the following for your interview and Affividat of Support

1. Letter of employment
2. Recent paystubs.. two months
3. 2 yrs of Tax Returns from IRS
4. Bank Verification Letter
5. Filled out I-134

Your DS-156K must be filled and submitted to the consulate

Attach the following w/ your submission

1. Copy of Birth Certificate
2. Evidence of Engagement
3. Evidence of Financial Support. See Above items (1-5)
4. Divorce decree (if any)
5. Police Certificate(s)

Without submitted these items w/ your DS-156K, your submission will be rejected. You don't want that.

Hate to sound like a broken record, PLEASE read the DIRECTIONS on the forms. Government is notorious for returning missing information or incorrectly filled out forms.

Best

Lots of people travel back and forth especially from Canada. I never had any problems but there's never any guarantee and the final decision is always up to the CBP officer. I always brought proof of ties to Canada with me and my entire immigration file.

See this thread for ideas on what to bring.
