I live in MN and I have never had any issues with drivers licence renewal/replacement I got my drivers licence 2 months after arriving in fall 2010 on an F-1 visa. It was valid for 5 years (expiring on my birthday in 2015)  but had the status check of July 2013 (which was my I-20 expiry date) Once I AOS'ed & received  my 2 year conditional GC. and changed address, I applied to change address & remove the status check date entirely from the DL.  My 2 year GC or NOA expiry date does not affect my DL in anyway as my DL is valid till 2015 even though my 2 year GC expire this may, 2014   So I am surprised with the DL expiring on GC anniversary or extended for 1 year based on NOA posts I read on VJ Or could it be that they ignored all those in my own case   I think this is the new procedure now. Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion	I-751 February 2014 Filers	I just tried to renew my drivers license today.  Was told I needed so much more information other than just my green card, expiring license and extension letter.  However, when I inquired a week ago about it (because I wanted to make sure that I had everything I needed...since they screwed me around when I initially got my Maryland license), I was told that I just needed what I stated above.  Total waste of 4 hours.  Not only that, the girl got very snotty with me and implied that I was illegal (apparently, until I have my 10 year card in hand, I am illegal, in her eyes).  I know management won't care or do anything (as per the course with this location).  So frustrated! I was also told that my documents to prove legality may take a few weeks to be verified, but they aren't even sure about that!  My license expires in a week!  Yes I realize that I could have sent my ROC package off sooner, but stuff happens in life and things don't always go as planned!  Why is Maryland so bad with this stuff, when I know of others in other states who had NO PROBLEM getting their license renewed with their extension letter and expiring card only?  I need to be able to drive to get to class and to work (a job that I JUST started!).  Seriously so angry...I just needed to vent.   Has anyone else had any problems like this?  In Maryland or any other state?   I am dreading about my license renewal too as last time they did not accept my NOA nor the stamped passport when I went to apply for a driver's license. Someone messed up the dates on my green card so I actually had to wait for the replacement (which took a while) before I could apply. So much pain in the butt. Since we moved, I am going to try at another DMV office and maybe it would be less hassle.   By the way, how many days since you guys sent the package before you received your NOA letter? I have not received mine yet. I am also surprised that I got a reminder from VSC to submit my ROC application. Philippines	NBI Clearance middle name correction	I had a similar issue. When I applied for a new passport in 2009 (lost the old one) my birth certificate surfaced with a slightly more complete name than the one I had been using. So now my official IDs (passport, drivers' license) reflect my complete name as in BC. When I applied for NBI clearance last week, I requested that apart from my current complete name, they also put in my old name on the space for "alias" or "AKA". I understand this is what the US Embassy has required from previous interviewees with a similar problem. (I am also planning to go in with affidavits "one and the same" but I doubt whether they will be requested, I will just have them in case of need.) YOu could go the official name change route, but that will take a long time. Good luck. did you present your old NBI clearance when you applied? i just want to know if their process is consistent. if i wasn't here abroad it would have been easier for me to deal with it. what happened was the officer refuses to change the name and put the alias (i requested this in a separate letter together with letter of authorization and the affidavit of identity) in the clearance and wanted me to go to the Philippine Embassy here to pay another $30 for a new NBI application. i was suspecting it is added revenue, the NBI staff operates by the book, or they just don't want to make changes at their end and would be less hassle for them if i just get a new application. with so much corruption, "padulasan" or whatever you may want to call it in the philippines...i really hate to enable that bad practice. i just hope the government will find away to fix our system to make things easier, efficient and more customer-oriented. We had same middle name problem (On her Police Clearance), and also misspelled both parents names(on her Cenomar). Lucky for us she is only 1 hour form the Local Civil Registrar Office that I believe has her originals. To fix her middle name took a week. And then the parents name another week. Then she went back to to check. Now all is well on those. Next is the NSO, and the way things have been going, I'm just expecting problems. NBI requested me to go to the Philippine Embassy here in Japan to apply for a new NBI clearance. Philippines	NBI Clearance middle name correction	thanks for the replies oh boy, sounds like a big mess. Merc, 1. What surname (spelling) does it show on your mothers and sibllings birth certificate? They use the correct spelling which is Viquiera 2. If your mothers and brothers/sister birth certificate shows the surname/spelling Viquiera, then you need to correct your birth certificate through R.A. 9048 - no lawyer needed. Just go to the Local Civil Registrar Office where you were born and ask about the process. Bring supporting documents such as your mothers birth certificate that shows the correct spelling of her surname - Viquiera and also your brothers/sister birth certificate. All should be from NSO. This will be the basis for the spelling/typhogarphical error correction of your birth certificate assuming that your mothers, brother and sister shows the surname Viquiera. If I do the R.A. 9048, will it override the previous Affidavit of Identity? I signed that with the condition that I would be using the Vicquera middle name. I am not sure what other legal implications will cause that big mess since I am also using Vicquera in Japan. I may really have to consult a lawyer if that's the case 3. According to you - items b and c - you are using Vicquiera as surname in your passport. If items 1 and 2 - your mothers surname, brothers and sister shows Viquiera on their birth certificate, I THINK only after you correct your birth certificate through R.A. 9048 will you be able to correct your Passport surname/biographic data since birth certificate is a requirement to get a passport. 4. Per NSO, it takes about 30 working days for the spelling/typhogarhical error of Birth Certificate. Hope this helps. My wife is also having the spelling of her fathers name corrected in his death certificate and R.A. 9048 is the process that we took per the Local Civil Registrars Office. Philippines	NBI Clearance middle name correction	hi everyone! hope someone had experienced it or knows something about this. i am on the process of gathering my police clearances (for K1) so i have asked my mother to renew my NBI Clearance in the Philippines (i am currently in Japan) just to be clear, here are the facts: a) prior to going to Japan, i have been using the middle name Viquiera (including NBI clearance) b) however, when i applied for a passport in 2005, that's when i only found out that my middle name was spelled as Vicquera (typo error) in my birth certificate. my previous employer wanted me to leave right away so... c) they had me signed an Affidavit of Identity stating that i would use Vicquera (same as my birth certificate) from then on (April 2005) i am having a hard time communicating with my mother since she's not used to this. she went to NBI in Victory mall today and she was told that they cannot give me a clearance with the Vicquera middle name since the NBI records has my middle name in Viquiera. i specifically told my mother to bring the birth certificate as i thought that would clear things up and provided an explanation in the Authorization letter. however, she said that the officer did not even look at the birth certificate and just told her to go to the Philippine Consulate here and have my fingerprints. i have not yet clarified with my mom what was this paper called (she cannot remember! so she will get back to me) but i have searched and perhaps the officer was talking about R.A.9048 now, i only want to continue using the middle name in my BC, as all my legal documents were spelled like this. i am not sure if the officer told my mom to correct the NBI clearance from Viquiera to Vicquera or go back to using Viquiera. if the former is what he meant, isn't it logical just to look at the Birth Certificate and my Passport and correct the error? can i just provide him the previous copy of my Affidavit of Identity to clarify this mess? i don't feel the need to continue paying for red tape for a typo error that somebody had caused. please any help will be appreciated. i just cannot take a leave at any time to go to the Embassy here so i want to do this when i am sure what i am doing. thanks	tokyobelle	Female	Philippines	2011-04-14 07:07:00

Philippines	Tell me this isn't bad luck -- now E-Census is giving me a headache	Hi,maybe you can check this site http://ecensus.gov.ph I got my Cenomar from this site online. I'm under K1 and my interview held in Singapore. And U.S embassy in Singapore they wanted to send my Cenomar directly so from NSO to consular office. what i did is I apply on that site and put the address of the embassy then i asked my fiancee' to open an account trhough Fedex so that it only takes for 3 days to delivered. So we paid $25 for NSO and $15 for Fedex. Philippines	Tell me this isn't bad luck -- now E-Census is giving me a headache	hi, does anyone know what number to call for requests made thru e-census? i requested a dispatch thru a UPS account and they told me in an email this evening that they have dispatched my request this afternoon and I should wait 6-8 weeks (will be sent through regular postal mail). I tried calling NSO Vibal number but it was busy last Monday. My BC is needed to be sent directly to the US Tokyo Embassy (and this is for packet 3 request only). Philippines	Request Letter for a Japan Police Clearance in USEM	ay sis, i looked for Aichi-ken police headquarters pero wala naman specific na namention na docs na kailangan. they have a phone number though that you can call if you want, perhaps they could tell you specifically what to do. here is the number :???????????? in my case i have to show them my passport and original letter from US Embassy in Tokyo with my name and case number. they copied the pages of my passport and the letter. mas mabuti siguro if you submit the NVC letter (it will have your MNL case #). kung sa manila ka naman nakatira i think it will be easy to apply. pero sis 2-3 months ata according to Japan Immigration.	tokyobelle	Female	Philippines	2011-04-27 21:25:00

Philippines	Stranger things have been said...BUT	fascination with a fair skin complexion is something that i do not get. but i think that is an Asian thing as I have seen that here as well. Filipinas should embrace the way they look. it just takes the right attitude and confidence to overcome the "skin" stereotyping. anyways, just sharing a story, i have an uncle who actually told me that perhaps i should get a nose job (my cousin, her daughter, had one). i told him i don't want to cuz my boyfriend (ex now) loves my button nose LOL. my fiance always jokes about having our kids confused with their ethnicity. their mom is Asian but does not look like one, and she has a Latino/Spanish-sounding maiden name LOL. he said he would teach our kids to say they are half-white when they are asked about their ethnicity LOL.	tokyobelle	Female	Philippines	2011-04-29 05:55:00

Just talking in general, Filipinos are "usisero" and "pakialamero". It's a big deal to catch a foreigner in Tagalog (nakabingwit ng malaking isda) because it basically imply money. As well as the superiority complex that is common to Filipinos because of course the foreign people who acted so superior in our ancestors. Anyway, it is supposedly none of their business if you want to marry foreigner, you shouldn't be judge, but you are because that's a common culture of the Filipinos unless of course, you give them money. About "slide thing", I haven't experience any, just a weird and understatement stares and glares. If they will, I will kick their ####. LoL. Kidding. Probably it depends on how your Filipino/Filipina partner handle the situation. 'Coz as for me, I wouldn't allow it, for they have no right to judge me nor say something about me having relationship with a foreigner. it is a social stigma like a scarlet letter. most people who give the flak to Filipinas are Filipinas who are married to foreigners themselves. i had friends whom i stopped seeing cuz they say a lot behind my back when i was dating another American before (they are married to a Japanese). i guess they were jealous of the fact that i can freely date anyone i want and they are stuck in an unhappy situation (some complain about sexless marriage and money problems). i believe the whole culture needs an overhaul. some think they will get rich when they marry a foreigner or when you are abroad. it is ignorant really to assume that. you should marry for the right reason and not because you expect someone to save you. i hear a lot of women (filipinas) say, "i think i will still date or marry a Filipino." nothing wrong about that but they say it like after knowing you are dating a non-Filipino. as for me, i do not limit myself to any race or color. it is important for me to find my match more than anything else. i have a strong, opinionated attitude that the typical Filipino men despise, plus I have always been independent and they mostly want a submissive wife. Philippines	Issue with NSO	How can SO MANY people have this issue with errors on their Birth Certificates? I almost have to wonder if it is something that is being done deliberately so that people, when they realize the error, will have to come back and PAY for the corrections to be made. It seems like it's not a bad income producing, job creating industry: Purposely fill in inaccuracies on Birth and Marriage certificates on a good percentage of births and marriages. Then charge them $300 to $400 a pop to get the document fixed. Hmm... my mom had issues with their names as well but they did not pay for $300 or $400 or she would have complained to me. I also had a misspelled middle name in my BC but my previous employer left it as is but they have me signed an Affidavit of Identity so I could use the name in my birth certificate. $300 or $400 is ridiculous amount. that is red tape. i also think they are deliberately doing this. Philippines	Beware if you travel alone to the Philippines	even as a balikbayan some people would still try to do this to you, or if you appear like you do not know anything in the Philippines. if you are a first-timer, just ignore them as much as possible, and appear like you are a frequent flyer. when i was in college and i go to Manila with my friends, taxi drivers always try to rip us off. some of my friends have thick Bulakenyo accent so it was a dead giveaway that we're not from Manila. i always have my mom rent a van from the airport to our house whenever i go to the philippines for vacation. just make sure you have a few bills ready for any emergencies. during my first vacation i cannot contact my mom thru my roaming phone so someone lent me their cellphone. please correct me if i am wrong but i haven't noticed any pay phones (or if they do you need to buy a card) near the meeting area. i always travel light but during that time i was carrying a remote control car as hand-carry and the guy who lent me his phone was telling me if i can't give him any bills any "pasalubong" will do. i told him to wait for my mom to arrive and i will pay him back. i gave enough money to purchase a new cellphone card. just assume that nothing is free. a few dollar bills won't hurt e? if they complain then just say no.	tokyobelle	Female	Philippines	2011-05-08 21:06:00

Philippines	Round trip airline to Philippines	Hello, I have read somewhere that to travel to the Philippines without a visa a person must have a roundtrip airline ticket. I will be going to Manila in either November or December hopefully to attend the USEM interview with my fiancee. I am planning on waiting for the visa and returning with her to the states. So I would need to book a one way ticket only to Manila then book us both one way tickets back after obtaining the visa. Am I confused on the roundtrip requirement to enter without a visa? Thanks for any reply Buy a ticket that you can change the date on, book it for a return as far in the future as travel rules for Phillipines will allow and then change the date when you find out when you are leaving. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports	Good things [can] come to those who wait .... and wait	Up until now, our K1 Visa application has been very slow going through the process. I've constantly monitored the other CSC applications filed around the same time as ours, and each step of the way, it seems like we were in the slowest 10 percentile. It felt like our application was made of lead or something, and it was very disheartening to see people who filed at the same time, several steps ahead of us in the process. Anyhow, that all changed these past few days .... praise God! We appear to have made up for much lost time (and may have even set a new speed record) as NVC issued the letter on July 16th confirming receipt of our file from CSC, and her interview is scheduled in Sydney for July 31st .... which is only 15 days from NVC receiving the file from CSC, to her interview date in Australia! NOT ALWAYS.......... I had an accident and require surgery so I asked for a medical expedited case. It was straight away sent to Delhi and there we received packet 3 and 4. his interview was set and we did not get our visa. He was given a form 221 asking for his ration cards and voters cards from 1990 to present.
