US Embassy and Consulate Discussionmedical completed Montreal
Just wanted to drop a note on our medical experience in Montreal.
August 9th 12pm had medical at Medisys located at Sherbrook.
Upon arrival receptionists requested copy of the interview letter from consulate along with passport size photos. She handed hubby a medical history questionairre to complete. She gave directions to the restroom and requested urine sample as well.
Completed questionaire and waited. then a series of women took him in at different times and returned him to the waiting area... first one took weight, height etc and asked if he had any allergies, second one took Chest Xrays, third performed eye exam, third took blood, fourth gave vacinations ( he recd three) , then finally the doctor came and took him in for a total of about 11 minutes. Very general, listened to heart, lungs, checked ears and throat, asked some simple questions and sent him back.
Proceeded to the receptionist to pay, Office visit cost $210 (canadian) and $68 extra for vacinations. I was a bit upset because when I scheduled appt, women said bring insurance card it can cover some of the vacinations, however the receptionists was quite adimant, "no isnurance covers cash or credit card only because we are a private practice" Didnt argue... (I was even more disturbed as I waited I noticed some people she took insurance cards from and some she took payments. AS close as I could figure was immigration to the US cost cash but Immigration to Canada they took insurance.. not positive) We came this far I was not going to hold things up for $68. The recepionist then gave us a receipt and said call in two business days for your results and to pick up.
Lastly, The waiting area was clean and neat BUT very very boring... we were there for 2 hours and 45 minutes... not a single TV, Radio or even a simple magazine to read anywhere!!! So bring your own busy work or entertainment LOL
Good luck to all... now we await our interview August 21st

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionhelp with I130 visa interview pending Canadian refugee
My husband NEVER stayed past his visitor visas in the US. We went
to Canada for a week (yes, we were married before entering Canada) and returning home his current visa wld expire the next day and border said his visa was voided because we were now
married. Said he couldnt return and I had to file I130 back in the US.. (Even though before
leaving to canada I was told we could file the I130 when we returned as
long as it was before his us visa expired, obvisiously wrong info)
Later while in Canada he applied for refugee status, waiting the hearing. I have since been
told that in the US I130 visa application package it says he cannot have
his visa interview in canada us consulate unless he has been accepted
as refugee. which wld mean he wld have to go back to egypt and wait
if he were denied refugee status right? he has with him now from
canada a document titled "Refugee Protection Claimant" valid til Oct
2010. I am totally confused.. if he cannot have his visa interview
at canada's us consulate, then canada's egypt consulate or have to
go back to egypt??? HELP
Also found out 6 months later that I could have filed the I129F (even though my 5 hour drive to Vt, they told me no to filing th I129F just file the I130) had I filed the I129F my husband could have been here waiting his I130 interview instead of Canada. ugh
I can provide the words on the page in the package if need be
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAOS
Ok this is my first post here, I have the conitional 2 year GC through marriage ( we are married just over 3 years now ) and the GC expires on Dec 4th this year, now last time we had a lawyer and all went very smoothly, but this time since I didnt have the $2000 fee he asked on top of the filing fees so I took a deep breath and filled it out myself, the tracking says it arrived at the Vermont office on the 22nd, and today the cheques where cashed, so my question is, does the cheques being cashed mean they have accepted the form and evidence as ok to prossess or can it still come back as not done correctly?
I am SO worried that I did something wrong left something out and wont get it back in time to correct and re send before the 3rd.

Nothing needed for children, you will get another biometrics (fingerprints only) appointment and then an interview.

Thank You, Looks like we might get off cheaply for a change LOL, Immigration costs sooooooooo much, hubby might not have to take days off work for appointments and interviews this time.

As soon as you naturalize, your children under 18 become citizens. Only send application and fees for your self.

Thank You for answering. will the children need biometrics ( AGAIN ) and will they need interviews to?, sorry if these seem like stupid questions.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN400 filing fee
I recently recieved my 10 GC and have been checking on naturalisation, It says I can file 90 in advance which for me means early September since I will have held legal perminant residancey for three years on December 4th this year, I have 2 children also with GC's my son will be 17 in August my daughter will be 10 this November, I decided to go ahead and file the N400 this coming September, the question is I am asuming the filing fee is only for me, so I need to send three filing fees to cover the children to, am I right?

US Citizenship General DiscussionNY citizenship appointment

Only the applicant has to be present for interview / oath. Your USC husband is thus not required to attend. If your children are already US citizens they too would not be required to attend.

Some ppl don't get paid days off and rely on their income. This concept may be foreign to you, but this is reality for others.

My kids are not USC, they are Scottish born same as me, will they have to atend the interview? My son will be 17 by then and my daughter will be almost 10 ( she did not get called for biometrics in Jan this year when we did them for removal of conditions nor did they update her picture )

US Citizenship General DiscussionNY citizenship appointment

Not having paid days off is not a foreign subject to me, as I myself do not get paid for days that I'm off from work. However point being, if your biggest concern about naturalization is that you might miss one single day of work, maybe you should prioritize other things.

But in truth the immigration prossess is not "just one day off" my husband is a USC and his boss has already been put out quite a bit with all the previous "one day off" for interviews etc, we have 2 kids and are saving for a house and the economy being what it is, one more day off would not be our best course of action unless absolutely necessery.
My children ( aged 17 by the time I apply and almost 10 ) they are not USC so they have to come with me?

US Citizenship General DiscussionName Change Question
I am getting ready to file N-400 this coming September, I am married to a USC but I have two children I brought to America with me that are not his biological children, long story short I cant/wont change thier last name ( which was also my name before our marriage) his health insurance from work does not cover the kids even if they where his biological kids because they dont have his name, we decided a long time ago that I would change my name back to my former name and he would change his to that to, so we all have the same name, question is would it be better for me to request a name change on my N-400 or wait and do it after all the imigration stuff is over and I am a USC.

US Citizenship General DiscussionChange of Address Question
Thank You for your reply, we are litterally only moving up the hill though technically it is another town but not another district as far as Im aware.
Do you have any idea how long the snail mail will take?

Are you moving to a different location that has a different district office? You should check this out first before applying. From your thread, it doesn't sound like the case but it is good to double check and not end up losing your money due to a technicality.

If you are within the same city then you should be ok.

Both, the USC and the GC holder need to submit address change forms. The USC needs to mail in the form which the GC holder can submit it online. From what I hear, a receipt letter will be sent in response to the USC's change of address request so my recommendation is to wait for that to arrive then submit the application. If the snail mail went through then the electronic one should be processed by then.

HTH

US Citizenship General Discussionmy interview experience Garden city NY

hey Guys!
today i had my interview in Garden State NY. my appointment was @ 7.30 AM. we left the house @ 6 AM. i reached there around 7.15AM. the customer service is bad. i stood in line for 10 min. then guy said, wait in section B till some one call u to go up stairs. around 7.45 AM. lady came took us to second floor. there were around 10 people waiting. i thought i will long day. but Chinese IO called my day, i was shocked that they call my right less then 10 min. As soon as we go inside the room he told me give me u r passport and green card. so i gave it him. before i put my bag on the chair he asked me
Who were brought to America and sold as slaves? i thought he will ask me to raise my hand instead he ask me the questions. i answer the 6 questions he told me read and write. IO did't even ask my name or date of birth. only thing he ask me was how many children do u have? have u ever been arrested? he asked me 3 year tax. then he said, u passed n gave a paper stating that. bye bye the process took less than 10 min.

here are the questions
01. who were sold as slaves in america?
02. who makes the federal law?
03. who is the vice president now?
04.how many amendments are there?
05.why did colonist fight british army?
06 FORGOT THE LAST ONE
he told me read WE CAN VOTE
he told me to write CITIZENS CAN VOTE

Hi this is probably where my interview will be so Im curious, when will you take your oath? was it offered same day? Thanks.

US Citizenship General DiscussionI passed my Interview today.

Left the house at 7am with husband and arrived around 9:15am in Sacramento. There's a long line outside the building, so I waited until about 9:30 to go in (since their appointment letter mentioned to arrived not sooner than 30 minutes before your appointment time). Went through the x-ray machine, then to the second floor (2-200) and there were several people waiting, some with their attorneys (suits and all). I placed my appointment letter in the window box (that was around 9:40am). There are people who arrived after me and got called earlier, I figured their appointment time must be early but they just arrived late, and so i just patiently waited for my turn. Then there's this guy who just arrived (past 10am) and placed his letter in the window box and after 1-2 minutes was called in, then another guy butt-in (pardon the words) and asked the IO, "we were here since (not sure what time) and he got called in?". The IO asked him: "what time is your appointment?" and he answered: "9:30am". Then he was asked to wait and they will looked into it, meanwhile the guy that was called went in to the room. After 5 minutes, they called the other guy- well, actually it's his wife who is for interview, and when she approached the IO, she said: "finally". Her interview took a lot longer than others, maybe the IO is getting even with them?

10:40am, I was called in. My IO's name is Gloria and she was very nice and polite. She told me sorry for the delay and I said: "that's OK". While we are walking to her room/cubicle, she's already asking me if I still live in the same address and I said "Yes, in Cottonwood", and she asked where that is, and I replied: "near Redding" about 2 hours drive from here, and she said: " then you must have woke up early to get here, at least it was not like 4 hours drive."

In her room/cubicle and asked me to remain standing, asked me to raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth, etc... and I said yes then I was asked to take a seat. She went through my (thick) files, and went over my N-400 Application form, went through all the questions (one by one) and checking each numbers with a red ink pen. What's your husband's name and date of marriage, date of birth and when I said his birthday is on the 9th, she said "that's close, do you have a gift?" and I replied: "No, not yet, don't have time to buy, but I will.", she smiled.

Then she asked me if I studied the 100 questions and I said yes. She also asked if I studied alone or if my husband helped me. I told her, my husband helped me and I that I also asked my husband those questions and that he cannot answer all. She laughed and told me that is fine because she, herself, cannot memorize all the answers to the 100 questions.

The questions asked:
1. What is freedom of religion?
2. How many senators are there?
3. What ocean is in the East Coast?
4. Name one state that boarders Canada?
5. When was the Constitution written?
6. What is the supreme law of the land?

Then she asked me to read a phrase: "What we pay..."
Then asked me to write: We pay taxes.

Then she wrote 6 and congratulated me. Took a piece of paper (N-652- Naturalization Interview Result) and gave it to me then she went through the N-400 forms again and remembered my 2009 ITR and gave her a copy. I was not able to send in my 2009 ITR with my application because I submitted my application early (February) and all the paperworks are with our CPa, but I did sent a copies of our W-2 forms (mine and my husbands). She told me the oath taking will be on the 17th @ 8:30am and advicved me there's no parking area at that place and I should parked far and just walked and in that way I will not get stucked with the other people attending the oath taking. She said they schedule 800 people for the oath taking. She asked me to sign the forms, and write my full name on the picture ID's. Then we went to this other room and she asked the man there to do this one before he went to lunch. She asked me to wait at the waiting area and she said, congratulations again, and I said Thank you and have a great day.

After less than 5 minutes, the guy called me and gave me Form N-445 (Notice of Naturalization Oath Ceremony) and explained the procedures, what to bring and the map/location.

And that's my interview experience. ;) Thanks to VJ members for all the advices since I started my journey (CR-1), it's a big help.

Congrats!!!! Thanks for sharing

United KingdomHow are you getting around the mothers day issue?

I just made my mum a card, and I know that she will be more than pleased with it. It will mean more to here than a bought one anyway as I took the trouble to make it, and here in the US there are so many nice things for card making.

I've handmade cards before and they were always well received. Means just that little more if you know someone has sat down and spent some time making their own.

I send on the UK date. I made my mum a card last year, wrote a nice verse in it, she was crying cause it was sad, but it was a nice verse I thought. I sent her a gift too. This year, I asked my sister to get a card for her and some flowers, and I am going to write another verse and my sister will put it in the card for me.
