K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWaiting for a NOA2 from CSC for your I-129F?
I feel for all the remaining CSC filers as of now. It is a feeling of hopelessness and despair. Along with that you just think the day will never come. Hang in there guys, because I know it will.

Why don't they outsource this stuff to China?

(This is really a joke but I know some companies do outsource their paperwork to other countries.)

PhilippinesThings you found strange about the Philippines

I am comparing bulk buying to that of America, cases of canned goods, cases of water, etc. Those I could not find..... Gallons yes. but that is not "bulk" items.

(Yamy replying)

We do have those in the Philippines but maybe in the particular area where your fiancee lives, they don't. Wholesale stores (or those that really sell bulk) like Puregold Duty Free, Makro or Uniwide are found usually in business districts. Although, most malls do offer bulk. It's just not wise to buy those there.

Being Filipina, I still find those that you mentioned "new" or surprising for me.

If you're going with Gretchen to her medical exam or embassy interview, you could explore the metro together. I suggest Makati (nearer to NAIA) and Fort Bonifacio in Taguig if you would like to see places that are different from what she's used to. It would be nice for her to see these places in the Philippines before she leaves for the US. It would be fun.

I guess it is safe to say that the Philippines is just as diverse as people are saying the US is (or any other country, for that matter).

10-packs of American brand cigarettes

I saw eggs packaged inside reused cigarette cartons, which by the way weren't refrigerated. I don't think I had ever seen non-refrigerated eggs before then :P

...well I had... they were just on a farm, not a grocery store!

also interesting that the guys in the back pass their money up through 2 or 3 pairs of hands and the driver seems to get the money and you get your change

HAHA, yeah! As Americans, the only time we feel comfortable passing money around in public is to buy a few hotdogs at a baseball game B-)

Traveling overnight by ferry in economy class. I was the only kano.

In our case, attending a Catholic mass and he's the only "kano". Every one is looking at him like he's an apparition.

Fish heads in soup.

Hahahaha. I remember him saying something similar to "Why are the fishes looking at me?" or something similar to "They still swim." It was in good humor.

-Large fences and walls everywhere. Not common to see parks or open grassy areas.
wealthy people loves their privacy. beware, behind those gates are security guards with shotguns too

Indeed! :P I have to tell our private guards to enter stealth for him. He had to recover from shock for visiting the mall that day. B-)
(and of course, I'm kidding  )

And with Michael and Ivy mentioning fishes and their bones, I have to add that I made Deren try Tawilis (Freshwater Sardinella) from Tagaytay! For those who don't know, you eat Tawilis with the bones.

PhilippinesThings you found strange about the Philippines
I had such a good time reading the other thread about what your fiancee / wife thought about life in the States, that I decided to turn it around a little bit.

When you or your spouse first visited in the Philippines, what was most shocking to them? Here is our list!

-Security guards armed with shotguns and automatic rifles. Checkpoints before entering malls, even cities.
-Toilet paper must be purchased in public restrooms, and absolutely NOT flushed.
-Traffic is chaotic and disorderly. It takes hours just to drive a short distance.
-Spoons are the most common utensil. Even for cutting!
-Large fences and walls everywhere. Not common to see parks or open grassy areas.
-Stray dogs and chickens wander everywhere!
-Churches are always full no matter what time of day.
-Medicine can be bought without a prescription.
-Beautiful skyscrapers RIGHT next door to dumping grounds.
-Power lines are a tangled mess... even in urban areas.

Philippinesdental work

All of these prices are as of 8/12/2011 and they were done by a reputable dentist in Cebu.

Filings- 700 Peso - That is $ 16.00 dollars.
XRay - 1,000 Peso That's $ 23.00 in US currency.
Tooth Extraction - 500 Peso - That's $ 11.00 US currency.

Wow. Things are so cheap there. In America I bet you that it is likely four to five times these prices, at my dentist anyway. I met the dentist/surgeon. I believe she is very good.

Look up Metro Cebu Rehab Oral Center
Dr. Sandra Lavastilla
IT Park

Those are the typical prices of dental procedures here in the Philippines. You did a good job finding a decent dentist who doesn't overcharge. :D

I totally agree with your comment. Besides me having braces right now, I got LASIK at the end of last year. I used to wear glasses, and contact lenses while studying in the USA, and let me tell you, I was absolutely tired of them. Of course it would have cost me a lot more than what it cost me to get the LASIK here in Colombia. I only paid 1.700.000 COP --> 850USD Aproximately for 20/20 Vision ;) USA can't beat that!!!

Thumbs up for those who have that smart economical thinking, and mostly for those who appreciates the fact that in third world countries you can find excellent health professionals who can do an excellent job withouth taking any medical risks.

That's right. My fiance was also planning to have LASIK done next year when we get back to the Philippines.

People still drink tap water? Posted Image

"In some areas, tap water may contain added fluoride, which helps prevent tooth decay and cavities. Most bottled water manufacturers in the United States either add fluoride to their product or provide a fluoridated bottled water product. The Food and Drug Administration of the United States does not require bottled water manufacturers to list the fluoride content on the label"

There ya go. :)
But like I said, it depends on how we take care of our own teeth and genetic reasons.

I will be leaving for the US next week and am currently having an artificial crown being put to my 2nd molar (for free though because my aunt's a dentist lol). Yes, it is important to work on dental problems now before going to the US because the procedures there are more expensive.

It is a fact that the water in the US is fluoridated that's why people there have nicer teeth but at the end of the day it all depends on how we take care of our own teeth and genetic reasons that count.

SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST, PLEASE REMOVE THIS ONE. THANKS

Delivery fee? Isn't delivery included in the price of the interview fee?

That was before. Applicants pay for the visa delivery. :)

I don't think there's a difference between "You are approved" and "Your case looks okay". Usually the CO will say "hmmm your case looks okay.....okay you are approved". They are the same. That is why it is advisable to ask them about your status if you are approved or not to avoid confusions later on.

PhilippinesWhat kind of Car for the under 5' Filipina?

Marie is taking driving lessons again, and is serious about getting her license this time. We finally found an instructor more to her liking, a gentle matronly lady that is willing to take out a second time. The means I may have to replace the car I bought for her a couple, maybe three years ago, a 1993 4runner, that I have been nursing along with a schizophrenic transmission.

Lol yeah. It's pretty easy to drive here. The ones we used in the Philippines were manual transmission. Good luck to your wife I hope she gets her license now.
