Middle East and North AfricaHas marriage & life been what you expected?
Met Wael almost 8 yrs ago and have been married almost 6 yrs. He arrived in the states Dec 07, so
it's almost 5 yrs since he left Egypt. We certainly were very fortunate to not have any adjustment problems.
He has loved the states since his arrival, worked for a few months and decided to go back to school. He has
a BA in Accounting, obtained his BS in Economics, and now will graduate with his MBA (Finance) May 11.

Last year he went home for the first time since arriving here. He had just graduated from the University of Arizona
and was a new American citizen. The first week he was back in Egypt, he couldn't wait to come "home"! So much
had changed. Of course he misses his family and speaks with them a couple times a week. He's just been so busy
studying and it has consumed so much of his time. I love and have always loved his independent nature and his
love for learning. He's still the same kind and gentle man I met and married. We have no problems with him being
Muslim and me Catholic. I learn and he learns. My family just adores him!

Tammy, replying to your topic of has it been what I expected....it has been more than that. I count my blessings
everyday and could not imagine myself without my sweetheart. He's such a good guy!!

Middle East and North Africalooking for MENA success stories

Sister,.no one is trying to put you on the defense. I think what we're trying to do is make you keenly aware that craziness abounds in MENA, fraud abounds, and to take everything with a grain of salt...actually, two grains. Be smart, be vigilant and be prepared. Nobody wants you to get crapped on...I can honestly say that we all have your best interest at heart.

For those of us that have been around these boards for years, we've seen everything. Hell, one if my favorite stories was the time that the CO brought the wife in to the embassy to tell her that the reason for the denial was that her husband already had two wives and children! Who had been presented to her as nieces and nephews. Yes, true story....my personal fave!

You two might be drama free, but just know that yours is a totally uphill battle and the COs will look at your age situation with a very leery eye.

True!!! Staashi, you are so right as usual!!! :star:

Middle East and North AfricaThe hoping not to be denied at Casablanca thread

I guess my kid will be the only one out of the three of us not going straight to hell  Thank goodness my fiancé isn't an ultra pious Muslim, because, despite my sincerest efforts to TRY TRY TRY to believe, I'm still a Buddhist heathen, and he accepts that for what it is.. For those who'd say OOOMG, he MUST be using you!! Nah.. While this may be a Muslim country, that CERTAINLY doesn't mean that people follow the book here.. Stay for a while, you'll see what I mean.. And I'd hope the "immersed" COs realize that too.. :hehe:

P.S. Ramadan is coming soon, I've actually seen some effort around here to dust off the prayer rugs, for the first time in nearly 5 months.. Kinda like they way my Grandma used to start putting out the nativity scene before X-Mas..

Are you Buddist?

Middle East and North Africavisit me
Shortly after Wael's visa interview, he also had a home visit in Alexandria. He did not wish to speak to Wael, only to his family. The only
person home was his dad and an uncle that had come for a visit. Asked if we had a wedding party, how did they feel about
me being Catholic and how well did I interact with the family. The interview took less than 10 mins. He then went to one of the
little shops and asked the owner if he had met me which he told him yes.

During our visa process, it wasn't uncommon for the embassy to have home visits. Some of the people here that were going
through the process at or about the same time as we were had home visits. I don't know if other countries have them, but, it
isn't uncommon for Egypt. If I remember correctly, his visa was issued about a month or so later.

Best wishes!

Middle East and North AfricaMandatory Administrative Processing

They may or may not do a field investigation, pretty rare from what I have seen here. They may send someone out to interview your fiance/spouse, their family, neighbors, etc. to determine it the relationship is legitimate. Usually they just ask a few questions such as do you know this person, do you know they are married/engaged? Have you ever met them? etc.

Again rare but it can happen.

Many of us going thru Cairo have had field investigations. Don't know about other countries, but seems Egypt will do them.
Usually someone will interview your neighbors and family members. It's pretty standard procedure from Cairo, with some members
having a couple field investigations.

Middle East and North AfricaHow to deal with leaving
Reading this thread brought back many memories. Going to Egypt 4 times, each and every trip was harder and harder to say goodbye.
Watching him thru the glass made it difficult to concentrate with tears streaming down my face and this huge lump in my throat not
knowing what was ahead of our journey. The stress was so overwhelming. My third trip I decided to stay a few months. That helped, but
made it even harder to leave. My last and final trip I knew I couldn't leave without him, so just waited and then our visa came!
We traveled back to the states together and I will always be grateful for that opportunity.

Those memories are so vivid. I treasured each and every moment. He did return to Alexandria 3 yrs later after receiving his citizenship.

Middle East and North AfricaMENA Baby Names
QUOTE (amysaid @ Oct 29 2009, 12:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Actually, this is a subject we've been discussing a lot lately, because we found out there is another MenaWeed on the way, inshaAllah smile.gif We have been debating it a lot, because Ahmed really wants a name that goes both ways in English and Arabic without being translated. So far we've come up with:

Girls:
Layla, Maryam, Maia, Arwa, Nourai, and a few others I can't recall right now...

Boys:
Aiman, Amir, Adham (He really likes this one, me not so much), Amar (he doesn't like this, because he says it's not Arabic... Umm, hello, the Imam on Little Mosque on the Prairie! tongue.gif ) I don't know how we got stuck on so many A names. smile.gif

Congratulations!!!

Go take the trip. I still regret all the trips I could have taken but never did because I justified it with logic being in the same place as you are. You never know what's going to happen and it's better to be together when you can then wait a very long time to see each other again. Days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months and months into years. Don't let the years pass you by. Be with the ones you love most.

Middle East and North AfricaWill having a wedding party help avoiding AP

Yeah it does tend to. My husband is a Mohamed. So yay for us.

For the OP - for name checks a wedding party would have no bearing. Be thankful that you're dealing with Cairo now and not 5-6 years ago when everyone had MONTHS of AP. A few days or weeks was almost unheard of back then.

So true!!
