Middle East and North AfricaFinding a job once they get to the U.S
During the 4yrs I have known Wael, and the many trips I went to see him in Egypt, we spoke alot about jobs here in the states. He knew pretty much what to expect with applications and interviews. This helped him and there were no surprises.

Wael was very fortunate to find a job two weeks after he arrived here. He works for a government contractor and had his benefits beginning the first week of work. During the first two weeks he applied online for many positions and he had a 80% reponse rate from these applications! He is also very fortunate to speak, read and write english which was a real plus. He also has his Bachelors in Accounting.

His plan is to pursue his MBA next year! I'm very proud of him what he has accomplished in his 7 months here in the states!

Happy Friday and good morning! Wael has a dental appointment today to have an impacted wisdom tooth removed, so our weekend will be a very quiet one! Thank God it will be done under IV sedation...he is such a big chicken.

Hope this post finds you well. i just wanted to share the good news and ask for a little insight...
Habibi arrived 4 days ago via JFK... Alhamdulilah. He passed through immigration and customs no problem, got the work stamp, and everyone was really very nice to him. I am so thankful for that...

We are getting settled and i'm so happy he's here... but it's really hard. We are bickering all the time (mostly about $$ and his smoking, which is about his health and more $$), and i find myself asking if we will really be able to do this? It's not him... he's my Habeeb (except for the excessive smoking habit that somehow increased over the past year mad.gif ) (i don't mind a few here and there), it's me... i'm the one taking issue with everything, and i'm starting to doubt that i'm even cut out for marriage. It's only been 4 days... is this normal for 4 days? i thought we'd at least have "honeymoon period".

i'm quite upset and find myself sad a lot of the time... and that can't make anything easier for him... he traveled a million miles just to be with me.

I have been living in a quasi hell since he has been here. It has only RECENTLY gotten better but its still been hard. The smoking WHICH NO ONE HAS EVER SMOKED IN MY HOUSE goes on in a back room with the door open . The culture thing has been one thing after another.. some of his other antics I have talked about. I have had suitcases packed by the door about 3 times. Its not you. Its real. Things are getting better little by little but not before they got really bad in my case. Its day to day for me...but he has made some progress. I had to do ALOT of compromising and catering to survive these past 2 months



I'm happy to know you are doing ok. Just take care!

Do you really think that's true? I haven't gotten that impression at all.

Nor have I. It's frowned upon in some denominations or individual congregations but accepted (in moderation) in others. I've been in Protestant communion services where wine was served, with grape juice as an alternative.


Well, it depends what type of Christian denomination we're dealing with - Catholics...we like the liquor - wine, beer, hard, etc. Protestants...depends which denomination someone is - methodists, presbyterians, etc - they will drink on occasion - just not too excess. Southern Baptists - definitely not - well, at least not in front of others that know them.

We actually have a joke here in the South about what religions do not recognize about each other, and I say this as a JOKE, so please nobody get offended:

Jewish people do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah;
Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Church;
and Baptists do not recognize each other at the liquor store. laughing.gif jest.gif






I'm an Italian-American Catholic and I don't drink nor do I smoke. I have no desire to do either. My husband is happy that I don't, but he also said if I wanted to drink it was my choice.

For our interview we were asked very basic questions such as where did we meet, how many times have I visited Egypt, etc....but the CO did ask me what was Wael's favorite foods!! So it just depends on how they see your relationship. Your questions were pretty normal.
