Middle East and North AfricaA Moroccan man just gave me some advice...you may not like it tho....

I, as an Air Force veteran take offense to your words "Chair Force". You really know nothing

of what a military person either man or woman will go through to serve their country. Saying you

are a Marine brat should make you smarter and wiser to what you went through as a dependent.

I too was a military Army brat and very proud of my father's service, grandfather's service, uncles

service, my brother's service and also my twin sister's Air Force service! You have no right to

say the Air Force has "some mighty cushy jobs". Where are you coming up with all of this nonsense?

We as military service personnel serve and have served our country and until you serve please

don't bash my service in the Air Force.

Thank you.

She says she's in the Chair Force. I mean Air Force. FWIW, there are some mighty cushy MOS's in that branch. Especially when you compare it to other branches of service. I know a girl in the Air Force whose only job is swiping ID cards at a security gate all day. She didn't even pass their version of "basic training" but they are holding onto her until her contract runs out. You just have to put up with the fundamentalist Christians and mandatory "prayer" meetings. Also I'm not really clear on what sort of job in the Air Force requires traveling around for short periods of time to countries. It's not a deployment. Even for an officer that's strange. But what do I know as a Marine brat.

Alicia, Mimo has been on these forums a while now. I've read them for a while before joining. I think you are getting hung up on the wrong things. You are totally free to marry whoever you want. That's not a guarantee they can come live in the US or that your marriage will work long term. There are a lot members on this site whose marriages ended up failing. I can't quantify it because there isn't really hard data, but it's a lot of people. Probably the majority. Visiting someone on and off, even a couple years, isn't usually enough time to get a real sense of what it will be like to live with them full time. I have been with my fiance, both living together and apart for nearly 7 years. We didn't decide to get married until about 2 years ago. He could have stayed in the US on OPT or we could have gotten married after graduation but we weren't ready to spend the rest of our lives together. I kick myself about that sometimes, since our visa journey has been nothing but hell from the beginning. But I am glad we spent more time considering everything even though the separation is unbearable, given that the odds are rather stacked against all of us. Something to think about.

Hey everyone just an FYI, my friends husband went to his interview today and appoved of course. They also asked him for new police record which he had, also some of there wedding photos as she only sent in a few in the beginning stages of USCIS. The response welcome to America and your get your visa is 2 weeks.

Im getting excited I leave in less then a month for Egypt. I think were all ready to go, we also update my husbands police record.

The CO usually tells everyone 2 wks. It's more like 4-6 months. Hope they don't hold their breath waiting the 2 wks.

i have noticed something new in their replies and i hope you can notice it too as i guess it's a good point , by the end of their replies you will find 2 letters , i could be NI or MR .

When I would receive a reply from the embassy, my email would have NI at the end. Have no idea what it would be referring to as I also would think it was the initials of the person sending it. This was 3 years ago!!! So I guess they still have the same generic mail! Wish I could offer some sort of help.

Good luck!

i guess this is the first letters of the first and last name of the who replied the mail . i thinkkkkkkkkk this is a new issue they do to know who replies what to prevent anyone of giving fake replies to the inquiry mails , what do you think ??

but if the AP in Egypt it could be something else .like they check on some doc .they check on your back ground in Egypt .home visit if they want to ask your family and kinda questions .......

Hello, just reading this just makes me feel for all of you. I am just waiting for my husband to finish his military which is in less then 40 days now. Im wandering this, did any of you attend the interviews with your S/O's. If yes or no just wandering if they seem to speed it up when you are there. I know I ran into Ronell when I was at the embassy with her husband when she was doing her interview with her husband and they recieved there visa within one month. Im sure there is no real reason but just curious if any of you attended with your spouses? Im sorry to all of you that are still waiting.

I attended the petition interview (DCF) with Wael Nov 06. We were approved the same day. Waited 6 months for his visa interview and another 6 months for the visa to be issued. As far as speeding things up....no.

It's rare to have a visa issued from Cairo in such a short time. Usually the process is 9 months-1 year.
Many people here from Egypt have been in AP/AR longer. Our time frame from beginning to end was 1 yr.

Middle East and North AfricaWhat was it like to see him for the first time?
Made it thru Cairo's customs and to the baggage area to claim my luggage. I waited and waited and no baggage!!
Well I knew it left Los Angeles, and finally found it...it had been put with the tour groups!
After claiming the lost luggage, I turned around and saw this man...the tallest man out of the whole group of people
waiting and it was him!!! I began waving frantically and then I saw his face....it was so white with fear!!!
With my cart behind me, I was rolling like a wild woman to meet him. I remember my legs not moving and everything
in slow motion...finally go up to him and said hi and shook his hand!!! No hugging in Egypt!!! He tried to talk and
but he was so in need of some water! Finally he smiled and that was all it took...left Cairo for the trip to Alexandria
and he did non stop talking...the rest is history! (L)

Wael told me the Egyptians usually eat corn on the cob as a snack, not like we do with our meal. I remember seeing all the little vendors on the street grilling the corn and the smell alone was to die for!!

That sounds excellent! I have to add it to my "to make" pile.

I made some crab cakes (yay almost crab season here!) Sunday night and crab stuffed chicken breast last night here is my recipe:

1 pound of crab meat - jumbo lump is best but mine was actually claw meat (little cheaper and ok for crab cakes)
8 oz fat free sour cream
2-3 tsp Old Bay Seasoning
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp Paprika
1/2 lemon - juice squeezed
1/2-3/4 cup bread crumbs (depending on how wet it is)
1 egg
(some people use some more spicy peppers, celery or onions in their recipe, I don't like the texture but you could add it!)

Combine all of this and let it sit in the fridge for about a half hour. You can cook it right away but I like the flavor to combine.

You can either fry or bake the crab cakes. To fry heat some olive oil in a saute pan, form the crab cakes into palm size patties and fry about 3-4 minutes each side. To bake, place onto a baking sheet and bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes. They should get brown on top.

I only used half this recipe (which makes between 12-15 crab cakes depending on size). Last night with the rest of it:

Crab Stuffed Chicken

10 Chicken Tenderloins (you could use any breast or boneless thigh pieces)
crab cake mixture
bread crumbs
olive oil

Wrap a teaspoon of crab mixture with the chicken tenderloin and skewer --- I used a cupcake tin to hold them in a circle shape - it worked great!
Top with a little oilve oil and sprinkle with bread crumbs.
Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown on top.

Dipping sauce:
1 avocado
8 oz sour cream
2tsp mayonaise
2 tsp Old Bay
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1/2 cut lemon - juice only

Blend together in blender to make a smooth sauce. I served it cold with the chicken, as a dipping sauce. Very light and good for a warm summer day!

How I miss the crabcakes I used to get in Virginia!! And the clam chowder! YummOOOO

Hard to find good seafood here in Tucson....

you know i can't find any safron for the life of me!!!

You should be able to find it in most Arabic/Int'l stores. You might also find it in Mexican grocers. Some of your more "upscale" groceries should have it too. You might have to ask for it. We use it a lot. Let me know if you still can't find it & I can send you some from one of the stores here. star_smile.gif

We have one arabic store close to us, and nothing. I even went to the indian store and nothing there. its like no body uses it here, but i don't understand. I've heard its very expensive? Let me know what the cost would be. thanks.

Terrie, have you checked in the spice department of your local grocery store? That's where I have always found saffron. Yes it's very expensive here in the states, but ohhhh what a flavor!! Good luck!

Have you tried Rice Select's Original Couscous? It is the only instant couscous that we use and comes pretty close to made from scratch couscous. Better to steam it than to follow the directions of adding boiling water though. It comes in a plastic container not a box.

Hi Sam, when Wael had his visa interview the CO didn't keep his passport. Sometimes Cairo does this. Just wanted
to tell you that during his time in AP he had a homevisit from the embassy. I don't know if Cairo is still doing them, but
sometimes they do. The CO also told him he was approved and should be receiving his visa in 3 wks. When they
were ready to issue his visa he was notified to send his passport. Total time from the visa interview to visa was 5 months.

You just have to have patience. Best of luck and I do hope it won't take long!

Hi All:

Thanks for all the help that I have received on this site for the past few months. I hope someone can offer some insight into how I can retrieve our original documents.

Initially when the NVC requested that we send in our original marriage certificate and my husband's birth certificate, we were advised that it would be returned to us when we interviewed at the Embassy. Well, this wasn't so - after our interview, my husband asked the CO if we could have our original documents back, to which she responded that she could not give it to us, as she needed to send the complete package for POE. She advised us that we should get it at POE. Again, not so; after hubby was processed at POE in Fort Lauderdale, the immigration officer again told us that he could not give it to us as he needs to send the papers to the National Records Office and we need to send a written request to get it back. WTH??? He didn't offer us any additional information as to where to mail this request, if there is a form we can fill out, anything!!! I called the NVC, the operator told me to email the information to them to see if they could advise me. I emailed them and have been directed first to the Embassy and in a separate email, I am now being directed back to USCIS. I am confused as hell and I am reaching out to my VJ family for helpsmilie.gif .

Has anyone else experienced this and been able to navigate through this confusion?

Any helpsmilie.gif would be greatly appreciated!!! good.gif

Here in Egypt when Wael went for his visa interview the CO asked for his original birth certificate, original marriage certificate and his Army certificate (original). Wael asked the CO for the originals back after the interview but the CO told him he has to keep them for the processing of his visa.

Wael received ALL the original documents back in his package with the visa. There is a sealed packet that he will give to the immigration officers at his POE, but all of the original documents were seperate. Do hope you can obtain all of your originals soon!!
