Well, we went through hell at the government building to get my residence permit, still don't have it... the lady made us come back 3 days in a row and then just told us that it had to go to "National Security" for 21 days... nice, should have told us that from the beginning instead of making us travel every day for nothing... sigh. I also didn't appreciate her "Stupid Egyptian men coming with their stupid foreigner wives comment". unsure.gif

The residence permit will hopefully be given in a few days, the problem I'm worried about is the US Embassy. I've been here since the beginning of February, but my residence visa only came now. When I apply for DCF in August, will they tell me I'm ineligible since my residence permit came in April? Or they will count from my entry?

Where did you have to travel to? We were in Alexandria and I had no problems whatsoever obtaining my residency permit. Did they say why there was a problem? Am very surprised about the comment she gave you. They were extremely nice to me.
Sorry this happened and I hope you will have it soon.

It sounds like she is saying "ha wo" ha wo"! Maybe i'm understanding
bird talk but I swear she is saying "hello"!!

Jillai, I don't know how you do it. Do you guys plan on living in the US? If so, would he be cool with staying home all while you work and not go out without you because you may be jealous? If not, then I don't think you should have to be sequestered because he's "jealous". It's really unfair, IMO.

Im not sure what the problem with me going outside is exactly, I think it might also be the way he was raised ... his brothers r the same with their wives also, and their wives are Egyptian.

We r not allowed to go outside, unless we call them and ask if its ok.... its a little different for me though, I have to have a very good reason for going outside.

I cant just get up and go venture outside, no way... also, I dont live in the greatest area, I think that might play a factor in it as well.

We have had the talk about American culture and how American women are very independent. and do not have to answer to their husbands on every little thing they do... according to him, he understands that. and always tells me, You live my way here Jill in Egypt, and I will live your way in America... so ... Im waiting for that day to come.... I would say we should be in America no longer than 6 months.... so we will see .... wink.gif

I'm sorry to drag yesterday into today but I couldn't sit this one out. Jill. I'm sorry to say that you are setting yourself up for big trouble when you all come here. Many (not all) of these men come here and have the same "perspective" as yours does and we didn't live with them in their countries to teach them otherwise before they came here.

You are "training" (for lack of a better word) him to believe that you will be completely submissive to all of his control and this is not a "live my way here and live your way there" kind of thing. Once you get here, he won't understand why you have decided to "go against his wishes" by being American and going to the store alone or going out with friends without him.

This isn't just going to be a small issue but rather a very huge battle between you both UNLESS you are willing to be kept captive in your own home for the duration of your marriage together in the USA.

You need to start getting him used to the fact that you are a strong and independent woman and you, as a human being, have the RIGHT to do as you please and he can not hold you behind walls for his enjoyment only forever. The only One that can hinder your life is God and sure, you can respect your husband but he has to respect you as well. You HAVE to teach him this and work on his insecurities THERE ....BEFORE you come here because he won't change overnight.

I may be totally wrong in this and I pray that I am. Good luck and if you ever ever need to talk...I'm here for you.

im confused bcz I live in Gwinnett County and the fraud seems to be happening all in the next county over in Dekalb. The Gwinnett Police are saying its not their issue and Dekalb is saying I dont live in their county so its Gwinnett county issue. The Police have been the least helpful. The bad guys opened a BOA account with my name and Social online on March 13th. March 20th they deposited a bad/fake check at 12:22pm March 21st (not even a full day later) they withdraw the $200 when the check hasnt even clearned (plus it wasnt a good check) did it 2 times I can find out from BOA fraud department. And bcz they used my social and name, it makes banks think its me doing it so my checking and savings with WAMU is closed down on me! Im waiting on the Dekalb police to call me back bcz I want to get a police report of all of this. Im mad too. Im trying in every corner to keep up with what hell they are causing to me!

Also have you all seen that big news story of the med student being accused of being a predator, I am thinking someone should tell his fiancee to maybe give a shout out to her wedding guests that there has been a wee snag in the wedding plans. Now I tell you compared to this MENA relationships are boring. Next time you think you have problems with your husband, at least he isn't the top news story of the night. lol

It's not unusual for Cairo to keep your passport. They DO and continue TO DO investigating
until they are satisified everything is fine. It's hard to wait, but, that's what you will have to do.

Middle East and North AfricaWHEN DO CAIRO EMBASSY UPDATE THE CASES
It's just a waiting game now. I don't know why they tell people that it will take a couple weeks. From our experience
he had his interview and was issued his visa 4 months later. CO told him at that time would only be a couple weeks.
Wish I could offer you a "timeline" of how Cairo operates, but unfortunately it doesn't happen. There is usually always
an A/P that follows.

Just be patient and good luck!

I would also like to welcome to VJ!

Her and I met on a flight from Morocco in 2007. I was crying because I was leaving my Tarik behind in Casablanca while I flew back to Ohio. Tarik was trying to escort me through the line but they sent him away. I saw a blonde girl with a blue jilaba. I looked at her passport and saw Blue. I looked at her and asked: "Are you from the US?" she said yes and helped me through my tears. She went through security while I sobbed my last goodbyes to my then fiance. I walked through security and when I entered the waiting area for our flight, there was the same girl, saving a seat for me. We were on the same flight to JFK smile.gif We talked most of the way back to the States. The flight was not very full so I moved my seat back to where she was, and when we got tired, we moved again so we could lay out and sleep smile.gif

Breeza, I never knew about John Abraham until I saw Water. I really had not seen many Bollywood films either until that just happened to cross my path. The instant I saw him in that film, I was like "WHO is that????!!!!!?????". I've never been attracted to men from Indian before. When I googled Mr. Abraham and discovered that his father is Syrian....I was like, okay....this all makes sense now. laughing.gif I must say, I do think John Abraham is about the most beautiful human being on the face of the Earth....outside of my husband and my cutie pie little boy! whistling.gif

I saw Earth as well. I felt like a complete idiot because I had NO IDEA that India had such a violent past. It was definitely a very thought provoking film...as well as Water. Deepa Mehta is an INCREDIBLY talented director. I wish she would gain much more international attention. She is BRILLIANT!!!!!

Water is in my Top Five list of best movies of all time. Very, very, very powerful. It is so outside of what people would classify as a "Bollywood" film.

Has anyone here every watched the movie "Osama"? I have. Just curious about some thoughts.

Movies/Documentaries I've seen via Netflix re: Mid East including Iran and India:

Inch'Allah Dimanche-Algeria/France-loved it! the mother in law was great as a miserable, awful nag of a woman.

Leila-Iran-loved it!

Arranged-Jewish/Syrian relations in NY-nice little movie about cultures being alike and different at the same time.

Water-India-Amazingly good! I cried it was so touching.

Children of Heaven-Iran-really touching, I loved it!

The Band's Visit-Egypt/Israel-Ok movie, husband didn't like it since most actors playing Egyptian roles were Palestinian. Quite slow and rather boring.

Heavy Metal in Baghdad-Iraq-Documentary about Iraqi heavy metal band, Acrassacauda...really good!

The Kite Runner-Afghanistan-great movie of course, very touching, ubiquitous.

Waiting for Happiness-Mauritania-Boring, I couldn't watch more than 10 mins of it.

Syriana-US-US/Mid East politics-Great flick and George Clooney...I mean come on.

On deck for future viewing:

Daughters of Keltoum-Algeria

The Color of Paradise-Iran

Monsieur Ibrahim-France-Omar Sharif as Monsieur Ibrahim
(A very good movie)

Kandahar-Afghanistan

Earth-India

Fire-India

Fireworks Wednesday-Iran

The Unwanted Woman-Iran

He also wanted me to get "The Message", so we should be watching it this weekend. I know he's seen it a bunch and I've seen it twice I think.
