Hi,

Just to check again - for traveling to the U.S.A. I only need that big yellow envelope that I can't open and passport, right? Someone mentioned MBE package - what does MBE stand for?
Thank you! kicking.gif

Mysterious Brown Envelope. Yes you need your passport to travel and the MBE which you must not open. Hand carry your x-ray results.. just incase.

You have been the biggest help to me I am indebted to your kindness and time!!!
Okay I have no boarding pass but I do have my passport stamped so I can photocopy that! Otherwise I have a hotel receipt but one that concludes only in my name.. I bought biscuits and chocolates for my better other half and I have that as a receipt and I even have a receipt of the BK meal I had before boarding back to London...... I also have car rental receipt for my last trip. Is this sufficient??

As long as you have stuff bought in the same area on the same day then that should suffice. Lets say you were together in Niagara, if you have a receipt for dinner and he has one for lunch it shows you are in the same area at the same time. I think some pictures of the 2 of you together would help as well.
I like you are just starting ( or planning to start ) the K1 process and this site is superb for helping.
I have also found a calling number from the uk that only costs 1p a minute to US land and cell phones if that helps with your expenses. It does not show on your phone bill as you calling a specific number but if your other half has phone records that show the times you called are times he was not making calls then you will be fine.

Thank you for your messages!! It's very helpful and even more a consolation that you are just now starting up the K1 process... the best of luck with your journey!!!

What if I only have itineraries and photos of us and recent phone records? I used my place of employment to call him (ooops) and he used a call card so we could obviously save money. I explained to my lawyer and he said I wouldn't need to worry as that can be explained.... I really didn't know we had to retain all these little things!! helpsmilie.gif Had we known we would have certainly kept receipts/event tickets etc... how do you think the USCIS will react to our poor evidence?? huh.gif

Thank you thank you and thank you again for your words of knowledge!!!

Hey smile.gif Welcome to VJ! good.gif
What they are looking for is stamps in either passport, copies of boarding passes to each others countries, hotel receipts (if you two stayed at one), car rental agreements, etc. All copies of course.
I did throw in 2 photocopies of cards that Nick and I had sent each other as well as the envelope they came in to show it went through US Post.
I sent a couple of emails as well, only because in them we both talked about the visa process and how exciting we were, etc. etc.
Pictures, emails and phone logs are secondary evidence, they don't PROVE that you have met, however they do show there is a relationship. They are needed for the interview but it doesn't hurt to throw a couple of those in there.

Do either of you have stamps in your passport that you can copy and add in the petition? You said itineraries....that proves that you had travel plans but without the boarding passes it doesn't show you actually got on the plane...do you have even one boarding pass? All you have to prove is that you have met once in the last 2 years. If you've had a few visits, just proving one of those visits will suffice.

Have a look at the Guides here at VJ and read up on other pieces of evidence you can submit.

I wish you all the best in your journey!!!

Haha... No mooshy stuff needed here. Just how and when you met. They will expect you to prove that you were in the same place at the same time. They don't need to know (nor do they care about) whether you call each other "schmoopy" or "honey biscuit".

Also, it doesn't hurt to provide evidence of an ongoing relationship with the package, but again, nothing "mooshy" needed.. For example, I included photocopies of the fronts of cards (and postmarked envelopes), but didn't disclose what was exactly written in the cards.

Good luck!!

Thank you for responding as well as the other helpful party!! Yup I have met my fiance 3 times this year and I have itineraries to prove that though we have one problem. We can't prove that we met in a Yahoo chatroom as neither one of us saved our conversation and also our regular phone contact was done from my place of employment simply because it was free and my better other half used a calling card. Anyone in my position would save as much as they could on phone bills so they could spend all the money being with them instead!! We only just now discovered a service called Vonage so I can have a US based number here in the UK for which we can prove ongoing evidence. How will the USCIS react to our story?!! Please help!!

Thank you all so kindly.

[size="3"]Hello my dearest experts,

I am new to the journey and just beginning our K1 petition. I need to write a letter explaining how and where we met. All I need to know is does Homeland Security want to know the mooshy stuff regarding our dates and/or just how we met and dates we visited eachother?? We need to write a whole page so I'm wondering how to jot it. I know it's a silly question but one that one doesn't know either!

I would be grateful for the knowledge.

Stay blessed.

There is no "Official Engagement" All you need to provide USCIS, and later the embassy is a signed letter from both persons that they intend to marry within the 90 days of the K-1 visa.

See the example letter of intent in the example forms.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNot engaged before married
Hi VJs

I hope this is the right section to classify my concern.. Basically I consulted a lawyer for our petition and upon reviewing my letter of how we met and when we intend to get married etc. my lawyer amended the letter by inserting 'we recently got engaged' but we are not officially engaged that states it on paper or anything else. Will the USCIS want to see evidence of our engagement? We are not engaged we just want to get married! Am I worrying for nothing? I'm sure the lawyer knows what he's doing but thought I'd ask you guys first. I've left him a message to contact me back so any responses would be great.

Happy new year and all the best for 2008!
Cheers.

Thank you for your fast typing skills Rebs. Yup he has had 13 years of family immigration law. If I'm understanding correctly, the visa waiver is going away? Non citizens of countries formerly requiring a visa waiver will now have to register biological information 3 days before travel to the US, but then they won't have to register again for two years when they travel.

What do you guys think about this? Have you heard about it? Looks like August it will be required!

i heard sometime in aug it wil take effect!

1. Passport photo. UK standard size is 1.8" x 1.4" instead of the US standard 2"x2" - how much of a problem will this cause me? I know plenty of people who have had no problems with the UK standard, myself included, but we knew no better at the time! It's prolly best to play it safe and get the US ones if you can smile.gif

2. Proof of having met. We have the stamps from his passport over the past couple of years, and the stamp in my passport at Xmas along with a copy of the E-ticket I purchased for my flight. We have multiple photographs, dating back to 2005. I have one of my boarding cards from my trip, but I lost the other. IS this enough? It sounds ok - we sent a whole bunch of stuff so it is prolly better to include all you have - better too much than not enough IMHO. Remember to make a copy of everything and send the copies - keep an identical package with all the originals in for your reference or for if things get lost smile.gif Another thing we didn't do whistling.gif

3. Proof of ongoing relationship. I have my E-ticket for my next trip at the end of February, and I have all of the above. How much information do I need to give at this point? I was never really one for hoarding emails. I may have a couple but they're not anything of a "I love you, I must have you right now" nature. They're just general stuff. Oh and call records, for me to call the US, I dial an access number which lets me call at 1p a minute - so this means the access number shows on my bill, and not his number. If I provide proof that the access number dials the US, will this be ok? This only needs to be covered at interview to show you have been maintaining a relationship while the application was getting processed. Of course we sent everything so... We sent e-mails, screen prints of conversations on instant messenger etc. We'll prolly use the same sort of thing when I go to interview - online conversations, phone bills, photos etc etc

Good luck!!!

Thanks so much for your help and advice. This site is an awsome source of information and support. I have been going mad trying to think of all the things we could or should get.

Have you already completed the process or are you still going through it? If you're complete, how long did it take from start to finish? I'm thinking at VSC it's going to be about 120 days to get MOA2, would this be about right?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewbie here - Help please!
Hi everyone. I've been scouring this site as a fabulous source of information over the past few days and I thought it about time I joined in.
I met my US fiance in February 2005, in person while he was working in England for a while, when he went back to the US in July 2005 we stayed in touch by phone and email, but didn't see each other in person again until April 2007. He was in the UK until September 2007 and we spend almost every weekend together. We decided that we didn't want to be apart and that we would figure out a way to make our relationship work. I flew over to Florida to see him at Xmas, and he proposed to me....

We are now filing the I-129F, and honestly it's a nightmare. I'm helping him just as much as I can because I know how he hates paperwork, but i'm getting so tangled up in a couple of things.

1. Passport photo. UK standard size is 1.8" x 1.4" instead of the US standard 2"x2" - how much of a problem will this cause me?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPOE Question
My fiance and I have just filed the I-129F forms and I have my ticket booked to go and visit him in the US on Feb 29th. I have been reading the forums trying to establish if I am going to have any issues at POE customs but can't seem to figure it out.

The proof i'll have of returning will be:

A letter from my emplyer on letter headed paper stating my date of return to work.
My return ticket
My receipt from the airport car park showing what day I have to collect my car - along with proof that I own the stated car.

I have bank statements but there's really no money in them - but they do show rent payments to my local council.

What else could I have (or need?)

If they ask me the reason for my visit I do not want to lie and say visiting friends because I belive honestly should be the best policy. So I will say that I am visiting my fiance. If probed i'll explain.

Does anyone have experience of this? I'll be flying out of the UK and into Orlando International - for 9 days....

Thanks in advance for your help.

However, I was hoping that someone could clear something up for me. We decided to go through the K1 process with a lawyer, who is incredibly unhelpful and for some reason refuses to answer any questions we have. I wish I had found this site before spending unnecessary $$.

We received this e-mail from our lawyer:

"We just received the approval for the first step of the process. I'll be sending you documents for the next step, which we can't file until we hear from the US State Department in about 30 days."

That is all it said.

Please could someone explain what is meant by this? I thought that our petition is sent to the NVC, then the embassy in the UK, where I will need to take all the remaining documents for my interview? What exactly needs to be filed after hearing from the US State Department?

I'd really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this-- I did ask our lawyer, but haven't had an answer.

Thank you!

Mia

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan I Travel To United States While Waiting For K-1?
Hi everyone.

I am a British Citizen, have filed the I-129 form and received the 1st NOA. My fiance, who lives in Illinois, and I are currently waiting for the 2nd NOA. I was wondering whether anyone could tell me if I am allowed to travel to the United States, to visit my fiance for three weeks, while we are waiting for the 2nd NOA? Could I be denied entry if Immigration find out that I am waiting for a K-1 visa to be processed? Would it be better not to visit him at all in case it damages my application?

I would really appreciate it if anyone has any advice!

Thanks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffadavit Of Support
Thank you all so much. It is a relief to know that a co-sponsor should be enough, and that my fiance not having a bank account etc shouldn't cause that much of a problem. We will make sure he files taxes from now on, so it will be sorted in the future.
I wasn't aware that the London consulate would allow the petitioner to sponsor themselves. I don't own a house or have any other assets yet, but so have some money in the bank, so perhaps it will help to take those details along to the interview...when it finally happens...

Thanks again!
