As to me, doing just fine. Getting a little frustrated by the wait, buy, hey, who isn't smile.gif.

Jenni: My business trip was fun. I was visiting my team from another region (like province in Canada) for a charity project I was monitoring in one part of Ukraine. They did a great job and it was fun to sit down and relax with them after two months of crazyness and travleing all over the place. Feel so accomplished. This project is like my last gift to my country before I move away smile.gif.

Decorating your first appartment together! How exciting is that? If you need a place to look for cool things, be sure to visit IKEA (a lot of my friends are raving about it).

Melzy: I used to work with a girl from Australia and she brought us some vegemite - so tasty!

I will miss:
Ukrainian bread
Salty fish they make and I seem unable to find in the States
Sweet cottage cheese (all I could find was salty!!!)

A word of advice to everybody, once you make it to the U.S. be sure to check out World Market. It's an amazing store where they sell wines and beers and foods and decor items from around the globe. I used to go there so often to pick up German chocolate (my guilty pleasure).

Jen: Glad to hear that Bo's AC troubles are over smile.gif. To be honest I can't wait to get back to Florida heat. That's the weirdo I am. When I left the States in December (after almost two years spent in Sunshine State), I honestly thought I would die from Ukrainian cold, and it must not even be close to what you get in Canada! Lol. My mom makes fun of me for constantly dragging my huge pink blanket around the house.


Ryan: Sometimes I wish I could put it out of my mind for a bit. Tried taking extra work, did not really help just got me really tired smile.gif.

It’s not going to be charlotte that’s for sure, it was horrible! They asked me way I was coming back to America so soon and I told them the truth, told the officer that I had a boyfriend! And I had to spend the night in Jail!
Not just that, I had a round trip ticket to Stockholm (Sweden) and they only send me half home, When I got to Germany I realized that my other ticket to Sweden was missing, we called charlotte airport to ask about the missing ticket and they laid that I was the one that had lost the ticket! so I had to buy a new ticket to Stockholm!
It’s amazing the way the POE officers behave! Sometimes I get feeling that they think that they are GOD or something?!
It was a nightmare.


OMG!!! Are you serious??? Never heard of such horrible treatment at POE!!!! That is simply un-human!!!! Yeah, def. shoot for another place to enter the country.

I can't agree more with the fact that officers at the POEs are abusing their power. Last autumn when Dave and I were coming back from vacation in Jamaica they questioned me about our relationship and rudely asked what I was going to do after my visa expirations (I still had good 3 months to go on my J1). Not only that, they questioned Dave as if he was some criminal!!! That was Orlando. I'm really thinking JFK for my entry, since I can get straight tickets there and they should be more accustomed to dealing with immigrants and K-1s.

My mom just suggested I get my real wedding dress (for our big U.S. wedding) here too, but man our salons are just so unkept and tiny, plus they charge you for merely trying on the dress. I mean, brides are allowed to wear whatever they want this day, according to all those magazines. I guess just go with what suits you. That's what I'm going to do for my dress. It is blue in the pic I brought to my dress maker, but I'll just go to the store and see which fabric goes with my eyes. I'll just have to get Dave a matching tie smile.gif.

We already talked about it and decided to have a lil' civil wedding and than save up and have a big one with my family flying down for the occasion. Jen, o, my! Poor, poor Bo! When I lived in Florida my rommie once froze our AC and it was just unberable! Hope he gets it fixed sooeln.

It's wedding season in Ukraine, and everywhere I go there are happy couples celebrating new unions. Makes me sad and excited at the same time. Well, I just visited my dress maker to discuss my dress for the civil cermony (I really wanted something light and summery, and at the same time slightly formal). Am so excited that she agreed to work on the design I found, even though it is kind of complicated. Now, I just have to find suitable fabric. Can't believe my luck, I'll have an A-listish dress for a very tiny fraction of the cost smile.gif.

Anybody else bringing the dress from home?

As to health insurance, I have little experience but will share what I know smile.gif. I was able to get an insurance for a 18 months for a total of almost $800. But that was probably a student discount (I was on J1 program). Now, from what I hear purchasing insurance can be really expensive. If your hubby-to-be does not have insurance as work benefits, that is something to consider during your job search. Sometimes taking a lower-paying job can be compensated by the benefits. Most companies I worked for offered insurance for both employees and their families. Usually such benefits are available after 90 days of employment.

Oh, no. It's still early days. I talked to some guys who's gone through Kiev embassy lately and apparently it can take them one or even two weeks to get the case into the system. So, I'm staying put for now. Calling them on Monday will be a complete waste of money (mind you I'm still irritated they require you to pay for each call, urgh!!). I doubt that envelope will be out of mailing room by Moday sad.gif

Am I talkative tonight or what? Actually need some input. We just talked to NVC again and looks like they've forwarded our case to Kiev, Ukraine on Sep. 30 (well, hope they indeed did). I tried DHL tracking and there was a shipment to Ukraine under reference EX 30 SEP 2008A and that one went out on Oct. 1 and is in Germany right now. Can it be our file?

Sandra, any news on your case? I feel so guilty that we are out of NVC while you guys are stuck in there crying.gif

Our "bumps" are still t here, lol. Case hasn't reached NVC yet. It's still early days. I'm planning to apply for my police certificate tmr. As to my dress, it's not done yet. Based on those few timelines from the past year, average is 53 days from NOA2 date to receiving visa. Yevgenij, first of all, she can go ahead and do the medical. As long as you have the KEV number, you guys are fine. We do not have packet 3, and stuff you got from the embassy webpage is the same thing they will mail out. I guess they don't trus our mail service, lol. As to going to the interview... Kiev embassy was reported to be pretty easy. If all your docs are in order and you have evidence of bona find relationship, they often ask no questions what so ever. Thus, it's not really necessary. I talked Dave out of it. I'd much rather he takes time off work when I get there.

The only "hard" part is finding a decent certified translator in my hometown to do the Ukr-English translation.
