K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCountdown to Interview
Exactly what Eddie&A said....if he doesn't know an answer, be honest and tell them that. Don't make anything up; chances are they already know the answer before they ask it. And if they don't, they are trained to know when someone isn't telling the truth. My husband was asked a question, something like "What does your brother-in-law) think about this (don''t remember what it was and he isn't here right now to ask)? His answer was "I really don't know". They appreciated his honesty.

Tell him the most important thing is to be relaxed and be himself. Be respectful and look nice (first impressions are always important). Best of luck to you!

Hi Everyone!
My fiance and I are 1 week away from our interview at the consulate in Casablanca, Morocco and we were hoping for any last minute advice that you may have!
We feel prepared and then again, we don't if that makes sense.
Happy thought and sound advice are welcomed!!!
Thanks everyone!!!
Love,
Liza and Redouane

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp, emergency!
My daughter also broke her femur this past year and she was out for about three months, but she healed successfully and is now out running marathons again. So don't worry, he will most likely heal and be fine in time;) I don't know anything about expediting, but I wish the best for you. Take care;)

I'm sorry if the title offended you.
I was panicking because the love of my life is incredible pain, and since the break is incredibly bad, like completely separate, he may not be able to walk for three to six months, and may have to use a cane for the rest of his life, according to a doctor.
Obviously, I'm a little stressed, and at the time that i wrote this, it felt like an emergency.

i'll be sure to title my posts my posts accordingly next time.
I was stressed, and upset.
My apologies.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions regarding K-1 Visa PROOF For Interview
Well, I recommend lots of photos with each other with family and friends (as someone mentioned above already). As for the emails/chats, well, what I did was just take a print screen of my email inbox folder between me and the hubby showing basically the sender name and the date of the message. With chats/convos, perhaps one conversation/month or week since knowing each other. All is too much in my opinion. I personally didnt print out our personal conversations, but i took screen shots of call logs (showing dates, times, and call duration) on skype and yahoo messenger. Also had my call history priinted from my starfone. I get email notifications of my facebook messages, so i have screen shots of the email log from him as well with the dates... also brought wedding pics and random pics with our fams... HOWEVER, at his interview he wasn't asked to show a single piece of evidence... lol... which drives me crazy since i spent so much time preparing it all... i wished he'd offered to show it all, but its ok... we were approved anyway... wish u all the best!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnother $350 at the time of scheduling interview
thanks, Ryan.

But.. is that the $350 paid BEFORE THE INTERVIEW?
Is there another fee to be paid after the interview, if the visa is granted?
GringoDMaleColombia2012-01-29 14:10:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnother $350 at the time of scheduling interview
Is this correct:

A.) When your fiance is scheduling online the appointment for the interview for the K-1 visa, it's another $350 USD?

And, THIS is IN ADDITION TO the $340 that we all sent with the I-129F initial petition???

And, to my understanding, this is paid online with credit card, or cash at a bank.

B.) Then, is there YET ANOTHER fee, AFTER THE VISA IS GRANTED? How much might that be?

Thanks for your help.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCOLOMBIA VISA QUESTION
Stefan,

Okay, I talked with her and with her sister, a more experienced traveler, and straight-up.

AT THE INTERVIEW,... they will ask her or arrange with her which DHL office she/you want it delivered to in Bogota.
I would imagine there are probably 10 DHL offices around Bogota, more or less. Just guessing.
I don't think one is quicker than the next.
It's just a matter of when the embassy gets her visa out to DHL.
My gal wasn't sure, if they were gonna call her or email her, when the visa was ready for pick-up.

I'm still a lil unsure. DHL should deliver. But, maybe she has the option of them delivering or her picking it up at a DHL office.

At ... any... rate..... by-passing all the colombian b.s., I would imagine they (DHL) will call when the visa is at their office and then you have the option of either them delivering or you picking it up.

I hope! to be able to tell you EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED... about next Thursday.

Take care, brother.
It's all almost over!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCOLOMBIA VISA QUESTION
Hey,Stefan... I'm going to get some current clarification on that for you in a few moments. (I hope!)

She was TOOOOOOO excited yesterday after the interview, to be able to answser all my questions.... jajaja... my interrogation was MUCH LONGER THAN her interview at the embassy :D

and, in case you missed it:

3 Questions,... 2 minutes.... VOILAAAA! LA VISA.

the only thing I got FOR CERTAIN from her yesterday about your question was, she said they told her she'd have the visa in hand WITHIN TWO WEEKS.

but, I think they tell them or her WORST CASE SCENARIO, jus to cover themselves.
Everyone here in Colombian section I believe says that IN BOGOTA, you should have the visa within 2-3 business days.

Now... once again... when is her interview to take place???
Easter... Semana Santa and Dia de Pasqual, you know... VERY BIG HOLIDAY WEEK IN COLOMBIA.
I could see this getting in the way of TIMELY ORDER AND FASHIONABLE DELIVERY... sorry to say so.
What? Easter is April 8th? i think.
From some colombians: Is the Semana Santa the week leading up to Easter or the week after Easter???

Just trying to help.

okay... I think you have little worries or none, if you have a co-sponsor that is president of a bank.
But, if the bank is in central america, then is the co-sponsor a US citizen?
If not, then... back to square one.

If he is president of a bank, then.... I'd think this issue of proof of income should not even be a problem.
What's going on, here?

Why is there even an issue with proving the income here?
What's REALLY going on?

He's president of a bank, and only makes $56K/year?
Something's fishy.

Swiss Love...

If you read 'in between the lines' of the instructions for the I-134,... basically THE THING THEY WANT YOU TO PROVE IS THAT YOUR FIANCE IS NOT GOING TO BECOME A PUBLIC CHARGE TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Write a cover letter, CLEARLY STATING YOUR CASE.
And, then include/back it up with APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTATION.

It doesn't appear that the OP or his/her beneficiary (unclear to me, which is which), THE SELF-EMPLOYED one, .. that one seems not to MAKE A GREAT DEAL of $$$ anyway, since the OP was talking about getting a co-sponsor.

To the OP:

The I-134 instructions for self-employed says PRESENT THE MOST RECENTLY FILED TAX RETURN.
How much more clear can it be?

It says 'THE'. as in ONE. 1 YEAR.

It no longer says "LAST 3 YEARS' TAX RETURNS"... as I believe it use to 3 or 4 years ago.

If the 2011 tax return is not ready, then send or present the 2010 return.

If the SELF-EMPLOYED ONE... doesn't make a substantial amount of money from being self employed, then so what?
It ain't gonna matter which return you send or present.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresfrom K1 to Citizen

As soon as she has her green card or advance parole document, she can travel without problems.

By residency requirements I meant that she will not be allowed to leave for extended trips of over 1 year without requesting a special re-entry permit from USCIS. She also must not have been out of the US for 18 months or more (cumulative, not consecutive) during those 3 years or the "clock" will start over.

Thanks much!

3 years after the original green card. She has to maintain residency requirements and file her taxes every year.

You can look at the eligibility worksheet on the N-400 application form online to get informed.

http://www.uscis.gov...attachments.pdf

When you say she has to maintain residency requirements, what you mean? can she travel outside USA during that residency requirement period?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplying for the K-1 Visa

First, be sure to read through the I-129F instructions: http://www.uscis.gov...i-129finstr.pdf

Then, read the VJ guide, http://www.visajourn...content/k1guide and the flowchart, http://www.visajourn.../content/k1flow .

On your co-sponsor, they don't have to live in the same state. It's more important that they are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident and can show proof that they can support your fiancé. Be sure to review the poverty guidelines for 2012: http://www.uscis.gov...form/i-864p.pdf .

Good luck!

Thank you! I will start with what you gave me. She is a U.S Citizen and makes well above the level..i just wanted to make sure that her residing in another state wouldn't be an issue.

Another question for anyone: Do you have to show you have accomodation? For example, in the UK you have to show that you have a residence that is big enough for your entire family. Is that a requirement for the US as well?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplying for the K-1 Visa
Hello everyone! My fiance and I are going to try to apply for a fiance visa. We had originally planned to get married in his home country but plans have changed and so we are going to try for a fiance visa. We are absolutely clueless when it comes to this so any advice, links, help, etc would greatly be appreciated! We are hoping to file by the end of next month so we are trying to get all of our ducks in a row. I know it's going to be a rough road ahead. I know basic stuff but that's about all lol I'm sure I will be leaning on you all for advice and support quite a bit in the next month or two!!! Thanks everything!

Questions off the top of my head..

What is considered public assistance? If you have received assistance in the past, will this effect your chances?

Our sponsor is a great friend of both of us. Does it matter that she lives in a different state than where we'll be residing?
What all do we need from her?

I think that is all for now. Let the journey begin :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHandwritten and/or typewritten?
I'm wondering if it's ok to fill in the forms both handwritten and typewritten? I've noticed that there is not enough room in the forms for my family name, to be written down on my computer. I'll have to write it down by hand.

Is it better to fill in the whole form by hand then? Or is it ok to fill it in on my computer as well, typewritten? What's the best you think?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresActivities (During Post Decision Activity) K-1

The NVC is the recipient of the handoff of your petition from one government bureaucracy, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to another government bureaucracy, Department of State (DOS). The NVC is an agency of the DOS. That is the "Cliff Note" version. If you are in need of further explanation, while you are waiting for your petition approval, you may have time to browse through the Immigration and Naturalization Act (INA) of 1952, for a more thorough explanation.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Thank! :)

K1s briefly pass through the NVC to get a case number, checks (name checks)are done and then the case is forwarded to the embassy.
Some cases are held up at the NVC when they do the checks, this is called additional processing (AP). I think this doesn't happen often.
The embassy will contact the beneficiary when they receive the case from NVC

What is involved in "Name Checks"? Do they see if the beneficiary's name matches their birth certificate or what?

According to the Flowchart located in Guides, After receiving the 2nd Notice of Action (NOA), my case gets forwarded by "MY" Service Center to the National Visa Center (NVC); then my case gets Forwarded by NVC to U.S. Embassy in my fiance's country.

My question is: What happens once it's at the "MY" National Visa Center (NVC)? I'm a little confused because it seem like they can just simply send it straight to my fiance's Embassy. Can you explain? Thank you in advance. :)

Dear I am the American and do you want to know honestly, each one of these question at one time or another have been asked. Like I said in an earlier post look at your embassies reviews the good reviews will list questions ask. Some interviews got so personal some didn't even want to post it.
Sorry you got offended. Many questions asked isn't as much for the answer as it is to get a reaction.
And name calling is never cool. This process is stressful enough. To get someone to laugh out loud I see no harm or foul. Good grief. :(

:bonk: Very ignorant. What I got out of the questions is that is how you view us Americans. If you feel that way why even come to our country? You should have put honest questions, not sarcastic ones. Apparently you must like the U.S. or why would you want to come to our country since you think we have a superialistic attitude. Figures. :ot2:

5. You know us Americans are hard headed think we the best people on earth you know?
6. Can you live with such superior beings?

This is very true about many Americans, especially when compared to many humble ones in 3-World Countries. RickJovi, I don't see what the problem is with Dwheels' comment at all. Of course, not all Americans are haughty, arrogant and presumptuous; just like not all Nigerians are Narcissistic Extortioners (but many are).

First No No and Hell no. No questions given in advance best to prepare by looking over the basic questions they have here in the guides. Than go through everyone of the embassy reviews (198 for Nigeria) the real good reviews post the questions ask. Some questions are couple specific maybe to address the red flags. But you can sse for couples that seem to have front-loaded very well there wasn't a whole lot of questions. But its all about knowing each other and knowing who you uncles cousins sisters dogs name is. (LOL just kidding). But for real I have quizzed my husband and he knows my first dogs name. None of it is true. Embassy doesn't communicate with the attorney. All the heads up he will give you is the same as you can read on this forum just by going to your country portal, and read embassies reviews. This is not an exam, so what kind of thing it is 1 question wrong??? The CO is just trying to establish whether this is a bonafide relationship, so you have to make sure to provide plenty of evidence. Being from high fraud country doesn't help a lot. And if it is a bonafide relationship, why would you need any heads up, you should be ready to answer any questions related to your application or significant other.

You're absolutely right. I thought this was true before because, I called an Immigration Law firm and was given a consultation and was told this. I knew it kind of sounded wierd, which is why I made this post. What exactly are Immigration Attorneys good for, anyway?
