My wife just finished the interview and was told to pick up her passport with a visa on Tuesday, 5/12/09. After all the waiting at NVC and writing numerous letters to congressmen and senators, finally every pain and anxiety seems disappeared. It has been very helpful chatting and discussing personal as well as process related issues here on VJ. I wish for all of you who are still waiting a very smooth process and good luck to all.

She wouldn’t' be able to file a K3 unless she legally got married in Nigeria, which is weird that they were denied on these specific grounds.

Africa: Sub-Saharaninformation on why they would deny you at your interview
I would take these with a grain of salt. I don't think just one of these would spark a denail. I think it is a combination of factors. My husband and I were only together for ten days and new each other for less then a year.

My husband, despite the fact that I told him for the purpose of the interview, did not know how to explain what I did for work at his interview. He got the company mission confused with my actual work. He said that I sold used goods. I work for Goodwill, but I do not sell used goods. I am in Risk Managment and work with the Human services programs and retail doing nothing to do with the actual buisenss of collecting and selling used goods.

This bothers me, what does it mean...for someone like me? I was married in Turkey with my Syrian husband; we tried to live together last year but it didn't work out (that was for 2 months). Then we just spent the past 2 months together in Syria, but I had to come back here to work...we didn't live together per se. Will this be a problem for me?

He just moved from Accra to Kumasi. My problem is that in case we are put in AP(God for bid) and they do field investigation at Kumasi, no one really know me there so it might be difficult to get the information they need and might affect us. Does any one know if you can ask for another forms? I'm trying to aviod the whole address change. It could slow down things as well. Any help will be appreciated.

WE buy toothpaste on sale. My husband is still using (8months now) toothpaste from Africa, which I do not know the name of. I know it taste like #######. LOL

I only cook about 5-7 meals a week. The rest of the time he is making some African dish, usually right before I get hom from work. An I grab left over’s or something quick while he is reading and not paying attention.

Gee Widbey, I am having flashbacks. Although My husband wasn't upset. He was everything went Great! I said so you have your Visa.. he said NO. I started freeking out. LOL Then he said they didn't give him anything. Of course I rushed to VJ to see what happened, which caused me to prod him further regarding what they gave him.

I am so sorry about the AP. I know you are crushed, but you are strong and can wait until the process is complete.

So, 2 1/2 hours after SO called me he called again and told me he would scan what they gave him. I was like, "You didn't tell me they gave you something!!!" I think he was so upset because we were certain he would be approved he just wasn't thinking to tell me about the letter he received. So this is what it says:

In order to proceed with your application for a U.S. visa, this office must confirm your eligibility for that visa. We will contact you if we need additional information from you regarding your relationship or if we need to conduct an additional interview. Until we have completed this verification process, we cannot move forward with your visa application.

What a mess. Well it does sound like you are in AP. The incorrect answer could have triggered it, but the fact that he asked the questions really fast sounded like he was going into AP to begin with. Same thing happened with my husband interview. Fast questions she didn't seem to be paying attention to the answers.

IF it is AP though usually they give them a piece of paper stating that. My husband at first said she didn't give him anything. But after further prodding he produced the answer i was looking for.

Please trust that this will become common practice. AR or AP are interchangeable terms. They will do a closer look at submitted documents, verify them with local agencies and possibly do home/work visits.

You are looking at anywhere from 4-8 months. My husband and I were in AP.

You should not have lied. But if something funky came back with your friends husband, they might associate it with him. But their relationship has no bearing. Fraud country requires more checks.

Sorry to hear your news. I know this has been a difficult process for you. My heart and prayers go out to you.

The fact that you travled there 3 times in one year is significant evidence that you believe you had a relationship. I would contact your congressman and senator first thing MOnday morning. You would have the same results with the CR1 without help from someone. Contact a lawyer too. Not jsut any lawyer one that has dealt with denial. There are some recomendations of good lawyers on the board.

Is there anyone on your husband side that has come to America? Family members? In the same way they associate someone from the middle east with a terrorist friend or family member they could associate your SO with someone who has committed fraud with the embassy.

There are Nigerian men here in American that make money fixing their friends and family up with American spouces. some do it for free for the share pleasure of bringing their country men over.

Nigerians were among the first to use the internet to take advantage of others. They quickly become associated with the letters from people seeking help in getting millions out of some where if only you can help them a little. In fact those scams are called by the Nigerian penal code number 419 for those scams. So when people take online scams they frequently say "Nigerian 419". Most people have little other reason to think of Nigeria.
That means the only words they hear about Nigeria is SCAM. If someone introduced you to a woman and said she was lazy , and the next person said she was lazy you might think she was lazy , not even knowing how she really is. It is that way with Nigerians , the first time you heard of them , they were scammers, the second time they were scammers. So you starting Nigerian and scammer are the same thing.

I have to disagree completely. Nigerians were not the first to use the Internet to take advantage of others. American have been using the Internet to take advantage of others way before Nigerian had readily available access to the Internet. Nigerian might have been the first to make a significant amount of money from it due to their high education rate and lack of jobs. But not the first to take advantage of others. I am sure America can take the trophy on that one.
