Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)AP TRACKER
It is common when going through a different embassy that you will be put in AP. Then it is common for your country to be in AP period. It is good news that they kept you passport(typically), but they could also send it back to you in the mail if they realize how long your AP could be for your country. This is a typical 4-8 months. could be less and as demonstrated in this forum, it could be more.

Hello,

I am new to all this and a little confused. I am reading all these post and notice different scenarios. I applied for a spousal visa at the US embassy in Sweden. My case is currently in AP and has been since June 24th. The embassy has kept my passport, but given me absolutley no timeline. The only info requested, was info on my male relatives.

Does each embassy handle the AP processing or is it all sent to an agency in the US? Anyone have any experience with AP from the embassy in Sweden? The embassy has not sent my case to UCSIS, so I have no case number, is this good or bad? Does contacting a congressman really help? If so, how do you find your congressman?

Any advice or info is greatly appreciated. I take comfort in reading all your stories. May we all be finished soon.

Went for interview on 23rd July. As expected, put on AP. The consular officer was least interested in usual stuff like marriage photos and proof of ongoing relationship/legitimacy of marriage. Instead, she was more interested in my travel history. She said that I should expect around 3 months of AP.
Its OK for me as my wife and daughter are with me and I am not in a hurry to migrate to US.

Can you please add me to the AP tracker as well.

Thanks.

sorry to tell you this, but there is no definate average of AP wait. The trend in this forum, which is the only place doing some sore of tracking to measure is 5-8 months. Could be as quick as 4 weeks and as long as a year.

Isn't that different than just being put on AP?
I mean if you actually have something missing or require something additional, and being put on AP when all documentation is complete...?!?

AP=Administrative Processing, which could mean security checks, they need additional information, or they need to do further research on your case stating you are not otherwise clearly eligible. i hope that helps smile.gif Good luck!!!

Now in these days normally AP time has increased. You can say now its starts from 7 months to 10 months approx.

Information from the embassy regarding admin proc is vague. They tell you a 6 weeks, just to get you out the door. you call they tell you additonal processing. It could mean anything or nothing to us.
I am thankful for this forum to figure otu some trends for some sort of relief to this Madness.

Stay on your case by calling the DOS weekly. AS them to give you an update on your case. They can read a back screen to what is going on.

Thanks for your replies!

Is it possible to be on AP as well as pending additional documents? My fiance received the 221(g) when he interviewed about a month ago for additional documents (only the first paragraph was ticked of the 221(g) form). DOS also tells us that his visa is pending/processing and we don't know what to make of that. Are they waiting on his documents? Or are they waiting on his documents AND ALSO have put him on AP?
If it is possible to be on AP and pending additional documents at the same time, then when does the AP start? After the embassy receives the additional documents or right after the interview, regardless of when the additional documents are submitted?
My fiance will be sending in his pending documents soon, but I was worried about whether it is a possibility for his AP to start after he submits his document (by the way, his pending document is his passport), as we have already are experiencing a 1 month delay due to his pending doc anyway, we don't want to have to wait longer for his AP afterward...I hope someone can shed light on this matter.
Thanks!

I have a question about Admin Processing...
My question is, is she under Admin Processing or are they only waiting for the co-sponsor's I-134??? Every time her fiance calls DOS, he is told the same thing, nothing specific about AP or anything like that. When one is put under Admin Processing, is the last date updated the date of the K-1 interview, or if one is under Admin Processing is the case updated after the interview? Or there are no updates until one is out of AP???

In other words, she was interviewed May 22nd, so according to DOS, last updated is May 22nd.
If she is under Admin Processing, should her case be updating or not after May 22nd?

Usuallyif they request additional information they will put you on AP. Some people are put on AP without any addition required documentation. Your AP seems for a specific reason, but one can never be sure. People have submitted the required information and them embassy would still keep them on AP. This is in more complicated countries though.

QUOTE (kmehmood1 @ May 28 2009, 07:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
How do you know that the last update was on May 22nd???? Cuz whenever I call DOS and ask they always say that they dont know..............

Khadija

Khadija,
When you call the DOS. Say, I am calling to see if you can see any updates on my case. They have a back view of what is going on at the embassy level. Even if the embasy responds to your email they will make a note and the DOS can see that note. I know from experience. You just need to act like you know they can see this information.
Some are informative and some are reluctant to help. Just keep trying weekly.

Congrats Emilybug! Sorry I haven't been in touch everyone, been worried about my passport myself. I wasn't told it was going to be 10-15 days or something, I only found out by calling the Embassy's over-priced extortion line directly. DOS freaked us out by saying we were still processing but they say you're pending when you're in AP, right? And the guy did check my case number and say that it was going to be 10 to 15 days...I actually got a letter saying I'd received clearance and not a call. I also figured it would be stupid of them to tell me I'd received clearance and ask for my passport if they still wanted to do more checks...they would have kept my passport off the bat. Sorry @_@ Just trying to reassure myself here because I'm meant to fly out on the 25th and I'm worried...but your news is reassuring to me, Emilybug, because it sounds like one to two weeks is just about right and we're on the right track to getting it back.

I hope and pray it goes fast for everyone else who's waiting. I know how agonizing it can be! And congrats to anyone I missed.

When you call DOS ask, can you check to see if there are any updates to my case. They will (usually) give you the alst update. Everytime the embassy does somethign regarding your case (even as simple as responding to your email) they document it. DOS can see these changes.

Some will give you this and some won't. That is why I always acted like I knew they had the information.

Good luck.

HOT GUY,

Our case is at the consulate, but all the security checks are done from the United States side, then they sent the security clearances back to the consulate, then the consulate will contact him to send his passport.

All cases remain at the consulate after the interview during administrative processing UNLESS the consulate feels that your case is fraud, THEN they might send it back to the U.S. and request that USCIS revoke the petition, but I think that doesn't happen that often and only certain consualtes are more famous than others for doing that. I don't think Cairo does that very much.

Try to relax and try to be patient. They will contact you as soon as your name clears the final background checks.

I call the DOS (Department of State) in the U.S. (202) 663-1225 then press 1 then 0 to ask about my case every few days. They just tell me the AP is still in process. They do pick up the phone without much of a wait at all. I call just to make sure they don't say something like they tried contacting my fiancee to tell her to make an appointment or something! In my case, the Colombian Embassy in Bogota, they only accept calls regarding individual visa cases once a week for a two hour period- Wednesdays from 2-4 I believe the embassy will actually contact her in Colombia by phone, when they are ready to continue with the next step?

Joe

All embassy's are different. Some keep the passport, but then send it in the mail. I associate them keeping the passport with the fact that it will be a quick AP. If they give it back, it means it will take a while and they do not want you to be without your passport. Those are just my views of what I have been reading here on VJ.
There is not much rhyme or reason to what goes on. But with this thread, I feel we are all making better sense.

Quick question: It seems like some people who get thrown into AP after the embassy interview have their passports kept and others have them given back on the spot? Ours were handed back when he said AP for us. What is the difference, good or bad, if they keep or give back to you right there, for AP?

Thanks,
Joe

Yes, you can travel to another country(not US) while in AP. As long as they did not keep your passport you are free to roam to any country that will hav eyou.

Thanks for the reply! Just another concern that maybe you have information about as well:

So let's say the K-1 applicant on AP/AR has traveled to a different country other than applicant is still out of country? Is it possible for the applicant to arrange with family members to send the passport to the embassy once the embassy asks for it to issue the visa? Or is it mandatory for the K-1 applicant to be present in the issuing embassy's country in order to send the passport to the embassy and receive it back with the documents through courier?

The reason I ask is there is a likely chance my fiance will be put on AP/AR once he has his interview. He is a Pakistani student in the UK interviewing at the US Embassy in London. His mother is not well so we were thinking whether it is possible that if, in the case he is put on AP/AR after interview, that he still make his trip to Pakistan to visit his mother and while there, if his AP/AR is over, is it possible for him to send his passport to the UK through secure postal services and have his friends/family in the UK then arrange for the courier service to pick up his passport and take it to the embassy and also receive his passport with the issued visa and documents from the courier and then they mail it via secure postal services back to him in Pakistan. Is this possible?

While in AP/AR, can one visit another country other than the USA while waiting for the visa?

This is what I am trying to ask:

Person is originally from COUNTRY A and interviewed for K-1 at the US embassy in COUNTRY B
US embassy in COUNTRY B put person on Admin Processing/ Admin Review
Person decided to visit COUNTRY A for a short time while under Admin Processing/Admin Review and then returns to COUNTRY B in a couple of weeks and wait out AP/AR in COUNTRY B until visa is issued.

Is this possible and doable? Or are there consequences?

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)AP TRACKER
You are not welcomed paciencia! No one is ever welcomed in this forum, but we are glad to help you through this difficult part of the process. You are in a forum where we know your pain, but can feel the elation when you are finally approved. I will continue to support this thread, because it is the most difficult and frustrating part of the process.

I learned and grew a lot through this process. Everyone can use a little work around dealing wiht one day at a time. Stay strong and possitve. Your AP is almost done.
