K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJust thinking in advance

Some calling cards provide call detail. You may pay a penny or two more a minute but ......

I dont know of any in the UK- plus we have so many other things we want to save for - all the small amounts add up - especially the phone! We are terrible - even when we lived together we would call each other from work and speak for 30 min or so! Surely the us government can understand that some people just dont want to spend all their money on phone calls! O well, aside from that do you think we'll have enough evidence of an ongoing relationship?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJust thinking in advance
We obviously want to have enough information for the embassy interview (yea I know that its a LONG way) in regards to evidence of an on going relationship. We'll have my flight stubs and info (here in the states from the 19Nov - 20th Jan), Jamals flight info and his leave orders from the airforce with my address in the UK as the place he'll be staying and of course emails and lots of them (we wrote everyday while we were apart for 1 month - just not used to the seperation). We will call each other everyday but we will have no phone bills as proof as we both will use calling cards and local access numbers as we really cant afford to spends $1000's on phone bills! Will this effect us and will the evidence be enough? I swear this will be the last question i ask for a while!! Just want to get everything sorted out before I return to the UK. Thanks all x

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting Mexico
At the moment I'm in Tucson with my fiance on a visa waiver and have been since November 19th - I'll be returning to the UK on Jan 20th so well within my 90 days. A month ago we sent the K1 application as you can see by my timeline. This weekend we are both celebrating our birthdays and want to visit Mexico for the day as its only 45 mins away from where we are. Will I have any trouble gettin back into the states? I'm not sure of the boarder procedures and nothing would be worse than being told I cant come back to the states when I have a plane to catch and my things are there! I think it will be fine but I dont have anything to indicate that I have a job in the UK or a house etc and surley they wouldnt turn me back to mexico with nothing?? Just waned some opinions. Thanks :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe hard part...

After spending 6 months living in England with my fiancee, and another 3 weeks with him at home (Chicago), it is now time for him to head back to England and wait for our visa. Our NOA2 should be coming any day *fingers crossed*, but now the hard part begins. I realize I'm lucky to have had so much time with him so far, but it still doesn't make it not suck. I guess I just wanted to share. If anyone has any advice or helpful info on how they got through it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

All I can say is good luck and hopefully the time will pass faster than imagained. I'll be in the same situation soon - I've been seeing Jamal every week since 2004 since he moved to England and I moved in with him at the end of 2005 until he had to return to the US in October - I joined him in November and my flight is booked back to the UK on the 20th Jan. So it'll be crazy! I'm really not looking forward to it! Good luck to you both xxxx

He's heading to a new base in Arizona in November this year and we'll be sending everything off then to California!!! I'm kinda scared but I beleive they will have NO reason to turn us down - good luck everone!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJust a question about RFE
It seems that RFE's sent from CSC are processed very quickly once they recieve what they asked for. Alot of peoples timelines show a NOA2 sent just 3 or 4 days after the RFE has been received. Now - Vermont seems to be a little - or a lot - slower at processing RFEs.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshow you met your fiancee question
We didnt actually write anything in that box except to refer to the attatched page. We wrote about 1/2 page with dates of when we first met, when we first got together, how we used to see each other everyweekend and the dates when I moved in with Jamal and when he moved back to the states. OK - it was kinda long - but at least they know the whole story and it wasnt just a case of 'how many times we met' as we didnt have a long distance relationship for over 2 years until now.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBankruptcy in the UK
Thanks for the feedback everyone :) I actually sent an email to the US embassy in London regarding this and they responded

"Owing a debt in the United Kingdom is not, in itself, grounds for visa ineligibility under U.S. law. If a visa applicant was arrested and/or convicted for any offence they would need to declare this when applying for a fiancée (K-1) visa."

So i'm free to do it :) I have all my faith that we will not seperate - we've been together for 2 years and lived together for one - we have never had a big argument and things are so wonderful between us - as he's in the military we have no plans of returning to the UK within 6 years - and after that time bankruptcy is removed from credit files. I know there is a stigma that some people think is still invovled but honestly, people who have done it say its the best thing they ever did in their lives and 3 years later have a house and are able to obtain credit (not that i want credit). I've found out that the debt and bankruptcy does not transfer to the states so it will not effect me over there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBankruptcy in the UK
OK - is there a number I can call to double confirm that if I, as the alien fiance, go bankrupt in my home country it will 100 % not have an affect on my K1, AOS and uncon greencard application? I am so worried!

To my knowledge, they do not look into the beneficiary's finances at any stage. They're more concerned with the USC's ability to support you and whether or not they have paid taxes, etc.
Correct
Once you get to AOS stage, they'll again look at you and your (then) spouse's finances in the US.
No, in this case the person sponsored is going to be a student, so there would be no income to add. AN dhtere is obviously no capital.

If the Debts are Student Debts, not sure it is that easy, certainly is not in the US. And I thought they closed that loophole in the UK.
[/quote

Its not due to student debts - its mainly credit cards - I do not want to run away from them, but I feel I have no option other than bankruptcy - I do have a payment plan, but with the pound being so strong, I have just doubled what I owed and we cannot afford $500 per month for the debts. The trouble is, they throw credit in your face before you really know anything about it. I was just 18 and I never had a lesson on finance or creidt - I was young and foolish and went through some hard times - credit cards were the answer! I know now, I've learnt and I would never make that mistake again.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBankruptcy in the UK
Will bankruptcy in the UK have any effect on my K1 visa and AOS? I feel I have little option but to go bankrupt before I move to the states as I will not be working once I'm here and will be going to college. The pound is so high to the dollar and I owe about 18000 GB Ps. Any advice would be very helpful - I'm so worried!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMarriage certificates as well as divorce certificates

From the DOS

http://travel.state..../T/Tanzania.htm website

TANZANIA

Available. Marriage certificates can be obtained for all civil marriages and other marriages contracted after May 1971 (marriage not registered prior to 1971). Certificates are issued by the Registrar of Marriages, P.O. Box 9183, Dar es Salaam. For a marriage contracted under customary law prior to May 1971, the marriage certificate is obtainable from a church or religious institution. In cases where such a certificate is unavailable, the marriage can be registered with the Registrar of Marriages and a certificate obtained. Since it may not be possible for nonresidents to comply, an affidavit by two persons who witnessed the marriage may be accepted.

Thanks guy fwaguy! I'll write to them and send it recorded delivery - even if they can give me information it'll be a start :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMarriage certificates as well as divorce certificates

I have received pkt 3 from US consulate in UK - the list of documents you need to have to take to the interview are: passport( valid for at least 6 months)... birth certificate.... adoption certificate ( if applicable)...... deed poll if applicable..... marriage certificate ( for each of your prior marriages).... divorce or death certificate...... police certificate........ court record ( if applicable)..... military record ( if applicable) 2 colour photos ........evidence of support .......translations (if applicable) So at some point they will expect to see it...

O no ... Does anyone have any suggestions with what I can do? I'm stuck now!

They won't mail you the certificate?

I have no idea who to speak to etc - Tanzanian law is impossible to research on the internet and my 'ex husband' will not do anything more for me - he sent the divorce certificate and that was the last thing that he would do! I've called the Tanzanian embassy in London but they said they couldnt help. I'm at a loss - without actually going to Tanzania myself - which I cannot do.

If you look on the instructions for the I-129F, a marriage certificate is needed to bridge the name change if either the petitioner or beneficiary changed there name as a result of marriage and adopted there respective husbands last name. Without this "name change document" they will most likely be unable to bridge the gap between your birth certificate and your current name.

phew .. I never changed my name and have always been known as my birth name so I guess I wont need it then .. thanks for putting my mind at rest!

A topic in another forum has got me a little worried - it seems that if you were married previously then you need to provide your marriage certificate as well as your divorce decree at the interview - and somw people have even had RFEs for not providing the marriage certificate with the K1 application! I'm so worried now! I just cannot get a copy of my certificate as it would involve me going to Tanzania to pick up! I'm not in the position to be able to do this! Help!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview in LA instead of Manila?

My friends (USA) wife (from Manila) who are married and living in the USA said that I can request my fiance have her interview in Los Angeles instead of Manila. She said we can apply for a temp visa to come to the USA and have her interview here.

Has anyone heard of this? I have not yet applied for the K1 Im just getting the paperwork together.

Unfortunatly the interview cannot be done in the states - it has to be in the country of the non us fiance. If it was possible to have the interview in the states, I'm sure that almost all K1 interviews wouldbe conducted in the states as it would mean not having to be apart for such a long time x

I was in the US when we sent the K1 application. It's fine as long as you dont 'overstay'. I had to leave early anyway because Jamal was sent on a course! But as mmb said - you may want to go back a little early so you can collect everything that you need for the interview.

We also lived together (Jamal was stationed in the UK for 2 years) Although my name wasnt on the lease, we sent bills and letters for each of us sepreratly, around the same date at the same address. We sent the full copy of Jamals passport (instead of the birth cert) which should some stamps entering and exiting the UK (when we went on vacations), photos and also his military orders. We didnt have any boarding passes, phone bills, emails, hotel receipts etc - and we praying that it'll be ok.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI really wish CSC would stick to '1st come 1st serve'

I'm sitting back watching all these December fillers get approvals. I'm not gonna lie - I am getting jealous!
The more December approvals that I see, the more I start to wonder. I feel really stupid being this way, but when I see someone who sent there application in weeks after mine - I wonder why - I think 'is our petition one that is stuck in a pile of someone who's on sick leave?' That would be the typical luck for both of us! I know that there are so many other people in this situation - but wouldnt this whole process be alot less stressful and worrying if CSC actually processed applications in the order that they are received?????!!!!!

I am right there with you! It's driving me crazy to see that it is not a first come first serve. I have even seen where someone from my state sent to VSC and was approved in 2 weeks. I was just looking at the updated timelines and am a bit dissapointed that my case hasnt even been touched. Now, I know it could be worse and I shouldnt complain, but it is hard to see all these other people getting approved when we had an earlier NOA date. It might be different if our case has been touched. But nothing. Nada. Zilch. What to do? Nothing really. Sit on the sideline and wait for now.

I know what you mean! Everytime I check that stupid case progress page I see the same horrible date: 12/9/2006. I'm really beinging to hate that date! Like I said, I know I shouldnt really be complaining, but everyday more approvals, and everyday there's nothing for us - no touch, no nothing .. it's very depressing.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDo you think this is realistic??
The more I worry about not seeing a touch or anything, the more I think my plans wont happen! Basically I was REALLY hoping to get married on the June 7th (we havent made any plans, but we want to start soon!) and sending my K1 of on 1st December I thought that this was a reasonable amount of time. I'll be going through London and was just wondering if anyone can help me know if this is realistic??? Also because I'll be attending college in the fall - I need to apply in June - another reason which we were hoping that I would have visa in hand by June!!! Also Jamal is coming to the UK in 3 weeks to see me (for 2 weeks!yipee!) so do you think its wise for him to bring everything that we need for the next step (adv of support etc???)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiancee visa... wants to go home
If she has up to 90 days to decide why not stick it out and forgo making a rash decision. A certain percentage of people involved in this process enter into this with their eyes half shut. This should serve as a warning as to spending time getting to know someone before making this commitment. I can see this man saying to her you have been here only 2 weeks and you desire to leave . Please stay and we can work this out. give it more time before you make this decision. I would rather you not go home at this point. You have a hard working christern man .Who could be the most honest man in his town and many people act as if he is an abuser without knowing any of the story. You people watch too many dramas on tv.Call the cops call the cops ,, what a bunch of #######. Call the cousin and have her send her home. Why give this man a black eye .
I totally agree with you on this! Truthfully, is there any USC who are bringing their fiance(e)s or have already brought them to the states with a K1 that would happily agree to let them go back home after 2 weeks of being in the states? If you love someone enough to go through this horrible process for them to be in your life, you will want to fight for the relationship (not in the physical sense) and wouldnt be like 'Ok - I'll get your ticket tomoro. Goodbye.' It's so sad to see cases like this (and there have been alot) when I know my fiance better than I know anyone and love him with all my heart (due to us previously living together and living in the same country) and because of the people that walk into this whole process 'with their eyes half shut' it delay the ones who truley know and want to be with each other forever. The ones who would not give up after 2 weeks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresmedical question?
For the medical you need to produce your vaccination record? Does it have to list everything that you've had or just what is required by the US? I contacted my GP and they said that I had to request it in writing but I couldnt just ask for my vaccination history, I had to specify which ones I wanted to confirm that I'd had. Is this right?
