I emailed them again last night, no response. They've never responded to mine and I do the exact like everyone else said they did! I'm the USC and it's the US Embassy....they should respond to me! At least something........


Well I was getting worried that it might have got lost in the post. Not that I can't resend the information, its just going back 4 weeks in the process.
At least with someone else in the same situation I can sort of feel less troubled by the situation!

However, I have emailed them twice since Friday without a reply. At least before that they used to tell me they had not received it!

In fact, you do not even need a bank account. Just proof from employer that the USC is in fulltime employment for $xxxxxx Salary, a couple of paystubs and that should be sufficient. (Its always good to have the W2 though)

Hopefully our info will be leaving NVC in the next couple of weeks and going to the London Embassy.
I read somewhere here that we can book our medicals direct as the Embassy don't arrange them any longer (the packet 3 from consulate thread I think) but I don't want to jump the gun and do this before packet 3 is issued as I dont know if Kensington send the results to the Embassy - or if they give them to me. Obviously if they send them to the Embassy they won't have a clue who I am :lol:
Any thoughts?

Edit: Actually it was in the Med exam in Scotland or London thread I read about the booking direct

Kensington send the results to the Embassy... when you book your medical they ask you for your London case number LND xxxx xxx xxxx which is assigned when it leaves the NVC.
You can book the medical and provide the case number when you turn up, but you need to know it then and Kensington will charge £70 or £80 (I can't remember) if you do not turn up or change your booking at short notice.
Booking the medical is quick and you can normally get seen in a couple of weeks.

If you have not ordered the Police Certificate yet, then here is where you can save time, it takes around 40 days to obtain (ok, mine took 29, but that was quick!)

I got there around 0835 for my 0900 Interview as I had been unable to pay the fee beforehand.

Worrying about a bank being open had bothered me all the way there and eventually I was directed to a branch of Barclays which was some 5 minutes swift walk away on the other side of Oxford street. It says on the door that it opens at 0800, which will be good news for others like me who had still to pay.

By the time I got back to the queue it was 0855 and I could see that I had lost about 20 places (judging from someone who joined the end whilst I was asking where the bank was) in the queue.


(ohhh yes Richi, that is a nice eagle, well worth noticing!)

After going through the next queue for security and walking the long way around the front of the building, I entered the waiting room and was given my number. There were only two immigrant visas in front of me. It seemed to me that there was just one window processing immigrant visas and one available for interviews.
It is quite entertaining for a while watching the numbers and windows on the screen but after about 25 mins with no further immigrant visa numbers being called in wears off!

After about 40 mins I got called. Very efficient and they only wanted a fraction of what I brought with me. Just my passport, receipt for the fee, birth certificate, previous marriage and divorce papers, and the police certificate. I gave them copies of the certificates and all three originals were returned after the interview.
Then I handed over the I134 and the letter from employer, and the house valuation (we used assets to meet the poverty levels) but they didint want proof of ownership, W2s, payslips or anything else. I was then handed the XRay, which of course I REALLY wanted! and was told to sit and wait for the interview.

Again about another 30 or so minutes passed and I was called for the interview. Index fingers were scanned, I swore I had told the whole truth, she asked how we met and whether we had any children, and what they thought.
That was it I was then told to go and pay, so I had to ask like most others if it was approved, and was told as long as I hadn't robbed any banks in the last few weeks!

So there we are, I now wait to get the passport back, and wonder what I'll replace all that stress with over the next few weeks......

divorce certificate +copy

The original certificates were handed back to me at the interview

receipt of payment
Police certificate

I-134
Letter from employer
evidence of supporting asset

I took some extra evidence, but didnt need anything else.

and noone asked for the interview letter, they just looked my name up on their list.

I also got those emails until march 10th. Then I got one telling me my Interview was March 20th!. When I sent my paperwork off I requested an interview during the week starting the 20th. My sneaking suspicion is they do look at what they get and take notice of any requests for early dates. Especially if you got everything needed from the Packet 3 checklist!

Just wondering if your appt was at 10:30, how come you got there at 8:30? Or did it take you two hours to get to the window inside? Sorry to be a pain but we have an appt. at 9:00AM and will have a baby with us. We can't possibly be there 2 hours ahead, cause they're not even open yet, lol.

Someone else told me there were 2 lines, one for Immigrant Visa and NonImmigrant Visa but seems they did away with this...


I got there at 08:55 yesterday for my 09:00 and I stood in line for maybe 20 minutes tops. They divided the lines outside depending on appointment time so when I was there they let the 09:00 line go through before sorting out the next queue.
All in all the process took just under 2 hours from the time I arrived, to getting out of the building agian.

Inside you are given a ticket depending on the type of visa you are applying for. Generally there are less immigrant visa applicants, but certainly yesterday that was accompanied by very few windows doing the processing for them!

I can't imagine what you would want to take pictures of though! (Apart from the Eagle Richi!)

Itwas a bit slow this morning for you too then, neither of us got through as quick as Jahan last week. But that's behind us now. We can relax for a few weeks before the next round of paperwork!

I agree, but that was from London. It might be slightly different in Athens. For example, you may have the medical on the same day, so this info might be in there as well.

Although it is a year before I can apply, I am already doing the online test.
After many attempts I guess I am averaging 6 plus right per batch of ten already. However, they could ask me the questions I am unsure of.

So I will eliminate all the questions that are simple (for me) that is around 50-60 and then I only have 40+ to concentrate on in my spare time until I apply.

Looking at your timeline it would appear that you have spent almost as long out of the country as you have in the USA. You seem to plan on applying for Citizenship at 2 years 9 months, when you will have spent a third of the time outside the USA. I am not sure how this will be seen by an IO at interview, but to me it does not look as if it will satisfy the residency criteria, regardless of the 6 month + spell outside the USA. Good Luck!

This may be the same for Germany, but for the UK I believe that if you enter the UK with your UK passport, you would be entitled to free health care if necessary. If you entered with your USA passport, technically you are not entitled.

Does anyone have information on how often Detroit holds naturalization ceremonies? I'm trying to determine whether they schedule them regularly or if I am going to be stuck in limbo during a busy travel season. smile.gif

PS - I am okay to travel with my green card after the naturalization interview but before they perform the oath, right?

 

I can't tell you when they are in Detroit, but having had the interview in Detroit on Tuesday, my experience is that you are told to wait after the interview and Oath ceremony letters are handed out there and then. The folk next to me were assigned an Oath Ceremony in Grand Rapids and I was assigned mine in the U.P. So they try and assign them geographically.

 

Also, in reference to your other post on what to bring, I had done 29 trips out of the US in 5 years and one since N400 application. I took passports and a printout of my latest trip.

I was asked to put my green card, state id and passports on the desk.

He never looked or checked the dates of travel.

I did not take transcripts for tax or info regarding a speeding ticket.

 

This was of no concern to the inspector and he only wanted to know how many days I had spent out of the US since application, was not concerned when. I guess every case is different but my interview was about 12 minutes in total including the review of the n400, and civics.

 

IF you travel, after the interview, you need to answer No to question 2 on the oath sheet and supply the appropriate travel dates at the Oath ceremony, and yep you use the green card until it is taken away smile.png

btw, when you change your status ? did you just change at Social Security office ? how about your status on ID/DL ? I think we should go there too to update our status..

If you not change your name.. and you have AAA member .. you can update your status at AAA office instead DMV.

Yep, I just walked into social security, took a number and waited 20 mins. Gave them my state id and passport and said I had a status change. Took about 5 mins at the desk.

 

There is no status associated with Id / driving licence

Got my passport in the mail the same day as the passport card and returned certificate. Took about 3 and half weeks after application. Registered to vote fairly soon after Oath ceremony and yesterday took my passport to Social Security and changed my status to citizen. All done! Good luck everyone

Oath Ceremony took place in Marquette, MI on Friday. 35 new citizens there including snowflowers daughter from the dec filings. The new citizens sat with their friends / family throughout the ceremony which was nice, the whole ceremony was fairly short lasting just under an hour. As I am from a different county I have to apply to vote locally and then apply for the passport. Journey not quite done but almost there!

My daughter had her interview at Detroit today. She and my Philipino friend will be present at the Oath Ceremony in Marquette on May 24th.

 

Congrats, was wondering when your daughter's interview would be re-scheduled. I was wondering if I would be the only one saying the oath as its in the post office!

Arrived about 30 minutes early for the interview and went through security, got my interview letter stamped and was told to go to the seating area near window 7. My heart sank when I saw the number of folk waiting in that area, so I sat down and was immediately called to the window. This was just to hand my letter in and be told to listen for my name being called by a closed door.

So I started the waiting process, a lot of folk were coming out and sitting back down. I found this a little odd, but all of these centers work in different ways. After about 40 mins an officer came out with Oath letters for about 10 people, called out their names and handed them out!

 

Five minutes later I got called in. I was asked for my drivers licence, green card and passports. The officer was very friendly and we went through my n400. When it came to additional trips since the application he only wanted to know the days I spend out of the US which was 6. We never looked at the passports.

 

Then it was onto the test;

 

6 questions:

 

Who wrote the declaration of independence

Who is the commander  in chief

Name a state bordering Mexico

Name 3 of the original colonies

What are the political parties of the US

and one I cant remember.

 

He then said I had passed and said you come from the U.P. right? I said yes (the U.P. is Upper Michigan near Lake Superior, and it is a long way from Detroit (8 hour drive))

He said I was scheduled for the Oath ceremony on May 24 in Marquette Post Office (some 60 miles from me), so they must do some things in advance! They only do about 2 Oath ceremonies in the U.P per year. So he went to another office, got the paperwork for the Oath filled it in and gave it to me! (3 min wait)

 

So, this happy camper, just walked out with a smile on his face, journey almost done!

yes..for sure , I will bring everything ..DL, passport , GC , SSS ,( extra photo ) and copy of N-400 .



Yep, I got the yellow letter asking for DL only as well., I had 29 trips outside US, so will bring passports and originals of documents I submitted with n400 (divorce papers). I travelled outside the US since application so will create an addition for theit mountain of paper.
So far, I am seeing that folk never have to show anything (apart from passports) that they bring..Has anyone ever been asked for documents NOT on the yellow letter?
