CanadaAOS'rs...

I'm not sure how an infopass appointment will help you if you've only applied for EAD with in the last month or two.... I'm unclear with your timeline, but still. You can 'hope' for it... we ALL 'hope' for it when it best suits us (i.e. IMMEDIATELY), but we all have to respect processing times and can't expect special treatment.

Having said that, there's nothing wrong with making an infopass appointment to talk to someone who actually KNOWS what is going on. That's what they are there for :)

Miranda, does "IO" mean interviewing officer?

I was really hoping for my EAD this month. Maybe I should make an infopass appointment.

Yep...

I posted this for the January filers, but I thought I'd post it here too for anyone who cares:

I went for an infopass appointment this morning in Fresno. The man there was very nice. He took a look and said that everything was in order, but he thinks that because my interview is coming up so fast they have pushed my EAD to the side and are not going to go forward with it. He said he would send them an email to see if it could be pushed along...

But he said my best bet was to make a case to the IO, let them know the situation, and ask if they could a) approve my EAD that day or b) stamp my passport with the temporary I-551. He said the IO has the ability to do both of those things, but it's really up to them whether they decide to do either (or do anything at all). SOOOoo I guess I will wait to see if I get an approval today or tomorrow... otherwise, it'll be all up to the IO. FUN!

Argh, that sucks Miranda :( Maybe you'll get it soon! There's always hope.

Thanks Huggles! I've actually got an infopass appointment on Monday. My daughter's AP was approved 3 weeks ago, so I'm wondering what the hold up is with me. It's 1 1/2 hours each way to the USCIS office, but I really feel like I need to talk to a real live person (although I realize the chances of them telling me to go away are high). I fully expect for them to tell me that it's still within the 90 days processing... and when I remind them that my AOS interview is on the 80th day, then they will tell me to consider myself lucky and send me on my way. But I'm hoping maybe, just maybe, they will take a look at my offer letter, take pity on me, and somehow push things through. Posted Image

It's so weird how you guys are getting your interview letters before your EAD/AP approvals. They must be really behind or something...

Rhiann- That sounds really really annoying. But, congrats on getting your date! At least you know what's going on with your case now.

They are behind on my EAD and it is FRUSTRATING! It seems every other January filer has gotten their EAD and AP. My daughter even got her AP. I have no idea what the holdup is, but if it doesn't come today I'm probably going to lose the amazing job offer that was extended to me 2 weeks ago :(

Still don't have my EAD Posted Image Everyone else got theirs 2 weeks after Biometrics, it's been 3 weeks for me now.

Also, I still can't track my AP...

I think their processing times are increasing. It's been almost 5 weeks since my biometrics... and still no EAD! Posted Image

Wow.. okay. I'm somewhat in shock, heh. Now I've got to go on a frenzy of gathering documents.

So, does this effectively kill my other two applications (EAD/AP)?

No, they are still being processed and (hopefully, in my case!!) approved and sent to you before your interview!

I got an email lastnight saying my AP was approved. When I logged in this morning I realized it was not my AP, but my daughters. I called USCIS to ask if mine had been approved as well, and they said no. They put in an inquiry about my EAD, but I got an email back an hour later telling me that they are "reviewing it and a decision will be made in 60 days". Nothing new there.

I went for a second interview today and got a job offer for an amazing job. I told them I could start in 2 weeks, so I hope USCIS doesn't prove me a liar! I could probably push that up another week without them getting too upset about it, but I don't want to have to do that!

Waiting, waiting, waiting...

Has anyone heard of being approved for EAD without an email? My case hasn't been touched online since 2/17 and I am anxiously awaiting it's arrival, but wonder if I will be receiving an email first (emails haven't been terribly reliable for me - I didn't get one for my RFE OR notice that my RFE had been received, even though I determined it had been with a call to USCIS).

Does anybody know if it happens?

no no, that's what I meant. Sorry... like does Montreal keep it as in not give it back to me, and send it along with the rest of my stuff instead. I don't even remember what went and what didn't. I know they gave back the original birth certificate, but since it's AWOL, I wasn't sure if there was a photocopy kept instead. But, if you said that they had a copy of it there, that's a good sign.

The problem is, without sending a long form birth certificate with the AOS paperwork, if I get an RFE I'll just have to get a copy of the BC anyways. And seriously... me, get lucky with this process? You've got to be kidding. :P

Thanks though. lol

I had to order a copy of my long form birth certificate (I realized I needed it right before I filed my AOS paperwork). I filled out the form online, and I had it in my hands 5 days later! I was very impressed!

The paralegal emailed me today and sent me the Fedex tracking number. It was apparently delivered on the 16th. I'm assuming that's what the touch was for on the 16, and then the touch on the 17th was for biometrics. I just wish they would update the status online! I guess that's too much to ask. :crying:

I thought I would weigh-in on this topic. I'm patiently (or not-so-patiently) waiting to hear about my AOS as well.
I emailed my lawyer's paralegal yesterday to ask what the deal is with the RFE (they apparently sent it in on the 12th, but the online status still says they are waiting for it) and he said he'd give them a call tomorrow so he can give me the date it was received. :bonk:

Meanwhile, I see some people with the same timeline getting their interview letter... I hope mine comes this week!

CanadaSocial Security Card Bah Humbug!
QUOTE (darkchilde794 @ Dec 13 2009, 06:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So I went to the office last Thursday and brought my passport with visa/I-94, Canadian driver's license, marriage license and the form they wanted me to fill out. And when I got to the local agent/personnel, I was told that I cant get my name changed until I get my GC. She said that USCIS has not updated my file yet and so my number is "locked" in my maiden name and can't be changed to my married name.

I received a SSN in my maiden name when I first arrived here, then wanted to change it after I got married (I haven't even applied for AOS yet, will be submitting applications at the end of the month).

The woman at the SSO told me it couldn't be done because I had to change my name with USCIS first. Disheartened, I came home and browsed the topic on these forums and learned it COULD be done. So I went back to the SSO. I anticipated some resistance so I brought along a copy of their policies, an email I received from their head office and asked to speak to a manager. Even the manager told me it couldn't be done, but I was firm (but polite) in my position. Finally the manager told the customer service rep to just try putting it through... and what do you know, it worked! Got my new SSN card in my married name less than a week later in the mail.

Next up: my fight with California DMV. I was told by their customer service line (by 3 different agents) that Canada is considered "out of state" and can get the driving test waived if they have a valid license (which makes sense to me). However, everyone on this board from Canada has had to take the test. Will I be successful? I'm not optimistic but Tune in Dec 21st to find out... laughing.gif

CanadaWhat's For Dinner - Part Deux

having leftover tomato soup tonight and both my son and husband asked that I make those Mccain smiles with them.

I hate those smiley face potatoes they don't look like they're smiling - more like they're sneering at me... mocking me. :(

We had tomato soup lastnight! Made it from a recipe my daughter had in a recipe book she bought when she was 6 (5 years ago!). It was actually quite good. It called for small pasta but we put quinoa in instead and it turned out really well. Even my picky teenager son ate it!

Tonight is eggplant parmesan.... mmmm....

I thought that converting to vegetarianism would be difficult (my husband, and both his kids are vegetarian) but I actually don't miss meat at all. Weird!

Well I'd like to report that I've received my card by now.... but I haven't. Last Tuesday I got an email that USPS had picked it up and it was on it's way. Then yesterday I get an email that it had been delivered. I checked my mailbox, and all around my house -- nothing. I called USCIS customer service, and the first agent said "it hasn't been returned to us, so you need to call your post office". I asked if she had a tracking number. She said I would have to be put through to a 2nd tier agent for that. 35 minutes later, he finally gets on the line. He says "have you moved?" I said yes in March. He said "well they don't forward the card, but they forward all other mail." I told him that I submitted an address change back in March, to which he replied "that address is not in our system". I told him that I've received several notices, INCLUDING THE CONGRATULATIONS LETTER at the correct address (not forwarded), but he didn't seem to care. He just kept responding "well, the new address isn't in our system". How could it not be in your system if I've been receiving mail -- including the congrats letter -- at this address?

Super frustrating.
Apparently he put in a customer service request to have it sent out to my "new" address that he "updated in the system". Posted Image

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresmade appt. with lawyer
We hired a lawyer as well. It gives us piece of mind to have someone complete them who is familiar with the process.

Last year John had decided to do his divorce on his own since it was straight-forward (with the help of an online case mgmt account), but that ended up causing way more headaches with things not being filled out, and the forms being returned from the court for seemingly endless corrections... for us it was worth the money to have someone else deal with that side of things!

Good luck to you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTo-Do List with Lawyer
We have a lawyer for the AOS process. While I enjoy the piece of mind having a lawyer brings, I did find it useful to check up on the case myself. Before we filed, I was in regular communication with the lawyer to make sure that everything was put together. I signed up on the USCIS website to keep an eye on the progress. If I had any questions, I would contact both my lawyer and USCIS and usually the truth lay between what each of them told me Posted Image
