Hello Michele&Omer,

I had my medicals done by Ungan. He will most probably try to get your spouse have as many vaccinations as possible...to make money. He is a nice person to talk to. But you say your insurance covers this...How?

Your spouse will not need to book a room at a hotel because he can get the results the same day (in the evening).

If you do a google search I am sure you will find hotels near the embassy. Some days ago I came accross with prices like 70-80 dollars at a 5 star (luxury) hotel room. (for August). There are of course cheaper ones but not as close ..However in Ankara you can take the taxicab and it does not cost much.

Congratulations on your approval!

It depends on your service center..how quick it processes your petition and also how quick you send the documents/forms/money they require to NVC once your case was approved and sent to NVC. And then provided you do not get any RFEs your case will be forwarded to the consulate.

You do not have to wait for the consulate to notify you/your spouse. You can e-mail them after confirming from the NVC (by calling NVC) that they forwarded it to the consulate.

Is it possible to arrange your own interview date? To a degree, yes you can. If you have compelling reasons -medical reasons for example (and of course proof) for a quicker appointment date and e-mail them you might get it. Also if you want to postpone your appointment date for a later date you can do that too. But in this case you should make sure that your spouse's security checks will not expire by that time.

Hope this helps...

Can someone tell me what the typical amount of time it takes from when you send your I-130 in the USA , to the time you have your actual interview in Ankara is?

For example, I sent my I-130 on behalf of my wife, approximately 2 months ago. (end of May). When can I expect the interview date in Ankara to be? Also, how much time was given to your spouse to make arrangements, meaning......did they notify you days....weeks....a month......in advance?

Lastly, is it possible to arrange your own interview date (once everything clears obviously:)........or are they inflexible in Ankara as far as that goes?

Thanks

Congratulations joyeann!

As far as I know from reading the appointment letter/the last packet the NVC has got all the originals already and they forwarded it to the embassy in Ankara. If they need anything else it would be expired documents like police certificate ( I think they do not ask this from Iranian applicants).

Congratulations again for getting the interview date after so long a wait.

My interview was scheduled for June also. However I am in the US and I might re-schedule it for September.
However I read at the Consulate's website that most security clearances expire in 3 months. Does anyone have any idea how andtill when I can postpone my interview date in order to keep those clearances still valid? But I think it would be safe to take as many documents (original and copies) to the consulate for the interview as possible.

Have a great weekend you all! :)

awaterlily

I am expecting to get my appointment for interview in Ankara.

My case was completed at NVC last month and I heard on NVC's automated response system that it was forwarded to Ankara a few days ago.

I would like to ask a few questions if you do not mind:

Who sends the appointment letter?
When does this happen? How long after this forwarding to Ankara takes place?

What does the consulate in Ankara ask for (if they do) from us (the beneficiary and the petitioner) ?
Could you please detail your husband's CR1 journey for me and people in similar situation?

I request the same from solcayto also.

Thank you.

Hello Debra&John,

Thank you. I received the SSC the same day I got the SSN at their office. (It was in the mailbox and I discovered that when I came home from SS office.

Justine is fine. She is at work now. She also attends university. So she is real busy. I will tell her you said 'hello'. :)

I think I will start working next week. Not a well paying job but it is going to be my first here.

I received an e-mail yesterday. It said they came accross with my resume on monster and offered me a translation job that pays 145,000 dollars a year with many benefits. I was excited to read that and today I called them and found out that the job is going to be in a US Military base in Iraq. That is why they were going to pay that much. That made me change my mind. :innocent:

But the money was goooood!

As for SSC ... I am pretty sure you can go to an SSA office and show them the permanent resident card and they will send John's SSC in a week.

I keep getting packages from my sister in Turkey. CDs, DVDs, Turkish movies and music etc. I got one a few days ago and that made me happy. 'Maskeli Besler' for example...it is a silly but equally funny movie..for kids too. I watched Kurtlar Vadisi-Iraq last month.

And we found a Greek store here that sells various Turkish food items. Now I can have White Cheese (NOT feta! please). Oh, by the way...the thing that people call Gyro here is what we call Iskender and I like it a lot. Greeks have a habit of naming stuff that is not necessarily their own invention. Iskender is Alexander and I guess it is after Alexander the Great who is a Macedonian..not a Greek as Greeks claim him to be. I am writing these to 'provoke'the Greeks ;) :innocent:

But honestly...they started calling Turkish Coffee 'Greek Coffee', Turkish Delight 'Greek Delight', Turkish Baklava 'Greek Baklava' etc etc. They got to love those because they had the privelege to live with Muslim Turks/Ottomans.

Anyway..have a pleasant week. It is nice and sunny outside.

:)

Congratulations Debra&John for the green card!
Congratulations Betty&Seyhan for the new development with USCIS!

I received interim EAD and waiting for the original one. I recently got my SSN with the note 'valid for work only with DHS approval'. I thank Allah (God) for everything. Although I still do not have a status I feel grateful.

Have a nice weekend you all :)

Thank you Debra&John, Mina for your replies&support. I needed some more venting.
Maybe I needed the knowledge that I am not the only one trying to adjust.

Noone misled me about the culture and ways here, Solcayto.. I was not surprised at all. Most of the things I have come accross to were things I knew about.
However knowing something and facing it and having to live with it are two different things.

I do not think it is possible for Turkish spouses to be misled about the cultural difference or anything. As a matter of fact Turks in general are more tolerant and accepting of the different cultures and ways of living. It may be because we live on a land between three continents, we have our own cultural differences in our society... we have borders with 8 countries. Athens,Damascus,Rome,Jerusalem,Cairo.... are closer to Istanbul than Texas is to Washington.

It is not solely related with adjustment either. It is equally related with the frustration born out of (mostly) immigration bureacuracy's inefficiency and aversion to reason and common sense.

Hello Ahmet,

Thank you for the information, I told Candemir about the link you listed. Thats great news to be able to do that here and also cheaper  No we have not registered your marriage with Turkish Vital Records office...is this something we need to do and why? Anyone have any military issues to deal with?

Candemir is doing better with each passing day. Adjustment is Hard.... He too might never adjust as well. It is a matter of Religion, Morals, Respect...the important issues...very hard for my Muslim husband...

Your very welcome and thank you for telling Justine hello for me. Also great to hear your baby is doing great, Yes Thank God! Always (F)

Best wishes,
Peace to All (F)
Debra

Hello Debra&John,

No you do not have to do that if you do not want to. I might have to do that because I will go back to Turkey for interview and if they ask for a certain type of birth certificate I will need it. In that form of birth certificate there is information about the marital status also. Since We got married in the US, Turkish authorities do not know it yet. That is why I might have to register our marriage at our consulate. And I was told that it might take 3 months to get it registered.
If we do not do this we also will not be able to get Turkish citizenship for our son. I think he should have it since he is a Turk :)

I completed my service with the Turkish Military. According to the Turkish Consualate's website they want to see the discharge document when you extend the validity period of your passport there. Otherwise they will not extend it more than 6 months.

It is the people and ways of living that are difficult to adjust to..at least for me. Yes, my religion is a big factor too. I do not hear 'ezan' here...there are no mosques here like the ones in Turkey. You do not celebrate my holidays. You do not eat my food. You do not talk like I do. You do not behave/react to certain situations like I do. Differences are innumerable.

I used to think people in this country would be civilized but I am disappointed.

Things like these...

Maybe I am exagerating. Maybe not.

Anyway...

Have a nice week!

:)

Hello Debra,

Yes he can have it done in the consulate of your area. You can look it up from http://www.e-konsolosluk.net
The fees the consulates charge is considerably less than the fees charged in Turkey.

Did you get your marriage registered with Turkish Vital Records office? If not and if you need it you can do it at the consulate too. We are planning to have it done soon.

Thank you for your good wishes. I told her what you said. :-)
Our baby is growing yes. Thank God he is OK.

I am not sure if I am ever going to adjust to this country and its people.

How is Candemir doing?

Have a nice weekend.

Hi everyone! Sorry I was away, Bulut had his interview and WE WERE APPROVED!! I was just too nervous to come on here a fw days b4 everything because then I would start to worry about what we sent and what we didn't send and AP and a whole slew of other things we had no control over. So now you can tell I'm the woman that worried about everything. I could take an HIV test and come back negative, turn around and take another one 5 minutes later and still worry about the results. I put an embassy report up if anyone wants to know what happened (not much, as it was only 5 minutes).

Tolsab, I'm so hungry now! That is the perfect kahvalti and makes me home sick even more. I really miss peynir, tereyagi and ekmek and I'm all good.

OMG.... Congrats You two! I am so happy for you guys... finally! And now your almost done..... what a good feeling that must be! We are still waiting to get through AP..... what a nightmare, this is horrible but what to do but wait.... I miss my Hunny Bunny so much!
We will be done with this process soon and then it will be my turn to post a positive word!:lol:

Hey guys,

I m at home now i got my visa hahaha i saw it with my own eyes so i believed i got my visa..
Iam praying to all of you to get ur visas and being together soon with ur loved one..

there is a thing the embassy sent all papers to us back that we sent uscis and also nvc (plus my visa)the thing is there is a warning saying that do not open the yellow envelope damn!! its already has been cut off the left side of the corner and its already open the yellow packages have our papers that went to uscis and nvc then there is another yellow envelope inside this big huge yellow envelepo i m so lost then i called to the ups office what happened the yellow envelope is already opened they told me we never allowed to open any packages that we got from the embassy its the way its when we get it from the embassy so i think it might having a damage when they were about to delivered it or dropped the package thats made me worry i think i m going to call to the embassy and let them know or what to do ?

I believe that you are just fine so DO NOT STRESS yourself! The Yellow envelope inside the other Yellow envelope is what you need to be concerned with and that is not to be opened as that is what the Officer at the POE will open when you enter the States. If it will make you feel better than yes call the consulate on Monday!

KD, Melbar, Kelly or Nihal,

What official documents did you have to get translated? The police and military reports, marriage and birth certificates? Any others?

see post #408

Per the DCF instructions, if documents were in English OR Turkish no translation needed. HOWEVER, I believe that if you are filing from the states if anything NOT in ENGLISH has to be translated by an official translator.

Hope this helps!

Oh Kelly... I'm sorry hun. That doesn't seem like they were fair to you at all. The last 15 mins and rushed because fatso had to eat? C'mon! If the marriage had to be registered in Turkey (for DCF), why doesn't the Embassy place that in their instructions in the first place! If that had been the case, and you two are meticulous about paperwork btw, then that CO wouldn't have a thing to say. Absolutely it is frustrating I am sure.

Hugs sister, it's going to be OK.:luv:

I'm waiting to hear news from the following:

Nihal & Cehun: That NOA2 is coming... :star:

Maribel & Unal: How are you?

KELLY & FATIH: Interview... how did it go?

Let's hear the good news AmeriTurks!

Mari

Interview was not a good experience..... they made us wait to be the last ones out of 31 Immigrant Visa interviews, PLUS more than 25 Tourist Visa interviews, that started at 8 am and by the time they got to us it was 11:40 am and the CO was more interested in telling us that his lunch time was in 20 minutes and so we needed to be quick only to tell us that our US based marriage HAS to be registered in Turkey before we can even think about being granted a VISA for one and for another, he put us in AP and said that it could be anywhere from weeks to months and "we would just have to wait it out". Needless to say, we were livid and stymied and Fatih (bless his heart) was very angry as they could not even tell us why, only that he wasn't going to argue as that is the way it has to be (referring to the Marriage situation) and that we could check the website often and then follow the instructions on the green sheet. ALL and I mean ALL Iranians received the BLUE SLIPS and I was able to decipher that the green are for the TURKS and the blue for Iranians. Another thing that made us upset, the CO admitted that when he opened our file as we stepped up to the window was the first time that he actually looked at it. Needless to say, I am not happy and will take this a step further. It is not right that we weren't afforded more than the "allotted" 15-20 minutes so we could discuss our case and Heaven forbid if we had any questions..... MORE than once we were told by the CO, "like I said, it is almost lunchtime and we need to get this done!" I cannot even say how I am feeling, and especially cannot say what I want to here on VJ.

Well since tomorrow is Friday, you cannot call the Embassy to get clarification, SO do exactly this and then relay this message to your wife just the way I am telling you and is as follows:

Strongly suggest to you, to tell your US-Citizen Spouse, to call in to the DOS Hot-line (IN USA) and inquire for 'case status'. Have him/her do that once every three days, and ask each time -

'Is the case file on AP?' (sometimes ignorance is bliss)
'When will the visa be issued?'

Then ask for the last 3 prior case file status updates, with date/time stamps.

I know, this sounds tedious, but -
there will be different answers each time the US-Citizen Spouse calls in ,
and finally, the last one to 'watch for' is 'Visa Issued'

SO melbar... get busy!

If you have all the documents like you stated above, then I believe that is enough. There really isn't anything that he can get here in Turkey that can help them, maybe if she was here it would be different as she would be a "resident" per say. In my opinion, they know that your Marriage is real BUT they have to take the extra steps and that is what they are doing unfortunately and that takes time
I feel as if you are over the Biggest part (interview) and now you just play the waiting game!

Now I think all he has to do is redo his physical and go to Ankara to pick up his visa. Happy, Happy Day!!!!

Thank you so much everyone, especially Tanya and awaterlily, Mina, Deb and John, Julia and Ferno.

You all have been a wonderful support and I could not have gotten through these past 15 months without you. Now I must go and starve myself and exercise until I drop!! (You think I would have used my 15 months wisely!)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year once again to ALL!!!

USCIS Service CentersAny idea as to why CSC is faster than VSC?
When I joined Vermont was the fastest of all.
They are getting paid generously for what they are supposed to do. They should not be paid by applicants at all. They should be government funded private enterprise, like the GM but efficient. Fire incompetent employees at once, hire those who do their jobs well. That is the way for speedy reliable efficient service. I hope you get approved very very soon Zain&Fariha. star_smile.gif

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Internet Cafes in Dneprpetrovsk
I can not give you any specific addresses of internet cafes in Dneprpetrovsk but I can comfortably tell you that there are many...just look around on a main street. It is not like it is in the US. Since not as many people have personal computers of their own this need is fulfilled by frequenting internet cafes.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Turkish Police Report: Please share your experiences
I have not heard of anyone who got criminal records via mail. But it is worth a try.
However if he can go to Ankara he can get it in 3 hours. That is the fastest you can get.
I do not know if your husband has Turkish citizenship or not but Turkish citizens need not go to each and every place where they had resided in the past to get police report. Ankara was not a place I had been living but I got it there. It is the highest you can reach. The Directorate of Criminal Records under the Ministry of Justice. And your report which is also in English is signed by a Judge unlike other reports you get elsewhere in Turkish.
This is all I can say to help you. After reading this you are the one to decide what to do.

Hello Akatagirl?

If you go to ADLI SICIL GENEL MUDURLUGU-the directorate of criminal records building in Ankara in the morning and gie the ID of Turkish citizen and pay 3 Lira per copy you get it from the same place in 3 hours.
The directorate is located in Kizilay. If you ask people when you/your spouse gets there you should have no problem finding the place.

Also the document is in English so you do not need any translation..no expenses for having that translated.

I hope this answer is not too late and it helps you.

:)
