That is great... and it sounds like you will be able to enjoy Filipino Cuisine as well.... and Tea here in Turkey, my opinion is, that it is better than the tea in the USA or maybe I haven't found the right blend where I was shopping. I will take some Turkish Tea with me when we leave here. I have a great Turkish Teapot and it is sitting on my Stove-top waiting for us!!!:dance::dance::dance:

When is your interview and will you two be attending the "gathering" together?

Well My Hubby Just calls me "Babe and Darling" as I didn't convert and so those are my special names......(F)

Have you met everyone here aside from Kelly & Fatih? (Luckywife)

We know Melbar,

I have a question and maybe some of you fellow Ameriturks can answer: Why Don't they use Clothes Dryers in Turkey like we do in the USA? I see them very seldom like in a Laundry in a Village but for the Norm... they just don't exist and at first I was going nuts :crying: and then I took up drying the clothes the Turkish way which isn't so bad, unless it rains for 40 days and 40 nights! :help:

All, i hope this inspires all of you to keep the faith and keep your will and confidence. Below is our story of my fiance going to Anakara on Jan 5th for the visa interview.

Hi,

Hulya didnt go to early for the medical exam( 2.5 weeks early) and after a few days she received the results. The day of the interview she went early around 7:30- and waited and at 8:30 they went inside.
She soon was told her passport style photo would not work( they could not see her ear good) , she was starting to freek and then was told she could go nearby and have a new photo made. She did go fast and took a new photo. I can imagine the stress she was under at that point. I can say she thought it was over when they said the photo was not usable . she was thinking she would need to reschedule and come to Ankara at a later time. Wow that was an awfull feeling i am sure.
As it turned out after she got the new photo Hulya was lucky. Her interviewer was a nice guy. He didnt make to hard on her. He could also see we had a strong relationship and that i had been there a lot. we were engaged in Istanbul and we had a lot of proof.

After the interview Hulya called me here in Ohio at 3:00 ish and she was crying and my heart sank. But , i soon learned she was crying for happiness she got the visa.

In the end its all about the good documents and the proof. If you have all the docs correct and the proof it will help you to be confident for the interview. That is what gave Hulya and i strength. We knew we were real and we had a lot of proof. So, be prepared in advance and dont stress to much ok . The process is long and keep LOVING each other and it will work out.
Hulya and i wish you the very best and if you need any help with questions let me know. i wil do my best to answer as soon as i can. Good luck to all of you.
Best Regards,
Clay and Hulya

Hi There..
When did you file your K-1 application? I am looking on the Website for the American Embassy in Ankara and seen the link that shows all of the Interviews and dates... and as I am always curious about the number(s) that are attached with the date of the interview IE (ANK2010773034) and then the type of visa and then the interview date. I am trying to make sense of how they put these numbers together and if they have any meaning that we can figure out....that is why I asked when you filed and then I can go from there...

Thanks!

Good Morning Ladies (and husbands too)!

It's Christmas Eve today and I'm thinking of the dream I had last night. My Lola (grandmother) passed when I was still a child and I not only resemble her when she was young, but her spirit is really familiar because we seem to be so much alike. I really miss her; I have many of her things and I love the memories. Last night while in prayer, I thanked God for the VJ friends here and asked that each of us "For Christmas have a sign, a message or a blessing in a translation we each can understand." Since many of us are away from our Askim, the holidays can be lonely and cold, instead of warm and beautiful. It doesn't have to be that way. We just need a little heavenly reminder, that we are not ALONE. :innocent:

Last night I had a dream I picked up my Bible as usual and when I unzipped the cover, my Lola's US Citizenship Program and Certificate fell out. When I flipped through the pages in The Book of Matthew (Chistmas Story), a colour picture of her holding her US Certificate for Citizenship and a white cake with an American Flag! Everything so vivid and real, I remember thinking, "Why am I awake again in the middle of the night?"

This morning, in 2010: I woke up, went straight to that particular Bible, and guess what fell out? Yes! Her picture (it was her Passport picture though in black and white lol), and in the back pages was THE US CITIZENSHIP PROGRAM from that day, for Sworn Oathe! OMG I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO FAINT. For me, this was a prayer answered. For me, it meant that from long before, and to this day, non-immigrants do get the grand opportunity to come to the UNITED STATES and get Sworn in! For me, it was a sweet memory of my Lola and her faith in God too. For me, it made me cry with joyous tears.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but when I get a message like this, I see it and believe it as a blessing and a hope [for all of us, not just me and Kadir]. I had to share it today, being that it meant more to me than something we might buy in a mall.

This, is what Christmas is to me... So Merry Christmas and God Bless All of You!
With Love,
Mariye

***The Facts: My Lola was a Missionary in the Philippines working with American GI's during World War II. My Lolo, (grandfather), was an US Army GI. They met, they married, they had kids *(My mom), and they moved to the States via his US Army Orders, so I guess she had to go through the Immigration process too.. **Note** I am unfamiliar with the process of this sort*** Eventually, Lola got her Green Card and hence the reason for the Celebration!! That was back in the late 1950's.

Question of the Day: It's really not a question, but if you have a special blessing or experience that has happened, please share it here? Afterall, it is Christmas Eve!

Mari, Thank you for this Post... it is inspiring and touching to say the least!
I have to mention a dream that I had just last night and mentioned to you earlier today in a PM. I had a dream last night that the Hubby and I were surfing the net together and I then went to my e-mail and I seen a new one that said Immigrant Interview and was set for March 2011... WOW.... we were so excited and thankful to finally hear something. Even though it was just a dream, I am still holding on and having some faith that things will happen for us!

I am Thankful for my family (whom I miss very much!) and I am thankful for Mari and that she started this Forum for us AMERITURKS and their loved ones! I wish everyone a Happy Holiday and yes, we will all be with our loved ones next year at this time and wont that be greatttttttttttt     ?

OMG so now the both of you two have me crying. Between the Music and missing our sweethearts. Oh my goodness. I am with you girls. One minute I am completely happy, then I will see a picture, I will have a memory and I turn to puddles of tears. This is so difficult at times. I don't know about all of you but my whole life I have waited and wanted that special person who made me feel like I was the most important thing in this world. My the grace of God/ALLAH this person was brought into my life, but I can not touch him, I can not see him, I can not be with him daily and it is such a struggle. However, I believe that this struggle, this pain we go through now, will make us stronger, make our relationships with our future husbands stronger and gives us the tools we need to learn how to cope. We just all have to stay strong and positive, of course we will have our moments of weakness but that is what this forum is all about, support and being there for each other. Anyway you two, thanks for these posts, you remind us all about the most important things in life, what not to take for granted and reminds us to focus on our futures.

Thank you for the shoulder to cry on. I love all kinds of music and Bocelli, Il Divo and some of the other Operatic-Pop (sarah brightman), I just love.
I think for Christmas this year, I will go to the Opera or see the SF Symphony with my son. There's a new theatre production out in The City and I am very interested in seeing that one. I'll have to look and see where the adverts are for it. Book those tickets, get in my formal dress and go.

OMG KADIR CALLING AS I AM WRITING THIS and I AM CRYING !!!!!!!!!!! <drying eyes hurry up mari!!> BRB!!!!!

Good,

I just put on Andre Bocelli Christmas CD and this is the first time up until now I have even wanted to listen to anything Christmas bc my Kadir is not with me --- just doesn't feel like Christmas to me. His gifts are in my closet waiting for him when he comes here. Here I am joyous over meeting all of you and as it helps ease the waiting pains, I just sat here listening to Bocelli's voice and the tears started rolling. :crying: I guess its good to let it out but gosh, sure can get lonely at times. mari.

Awww Mari... this makes me wanna cry :crying: and I can only imagine.... I am glad that we met here on VJ and know that we are here for you and each other! Crying is good, even though sometimes it bothers the ones that we are around at the time as they don't really understand what we may be going through... I don't know about you, but my tear duct is very close to the surface and I can cry at the drop of a hat! I feel like after I cry, a lot of unease and tension is let out! BTW your choice of music is very good. I love Mannheim Steamrollers Christmas collection and have 2 of their Christmas CD's and I am hoping that they are still in our car here! I love Christmas Music and often brings tears to my eyes just listening!

Before you know it, your sweetheart will be there by your side and this time next year will be very joyous for the two of :innocent: you, you just wait and see girlie!

Memnum oldum everyone!

Ok catching up to speed, my favorite Turkish foods are: karides guvec, haydari ve the little zucchini patty that starts with an "m" that has slipped my brain all of a sudden, cay (drink I know) and tavuk kebabs from Gaziantep kebabs/kebaps in Selcuk. Amazing. Now 3 questions of my own.

Is is possible to find a restaurant with good alfredo sauce in the summer (preferably in Izmir or Istanbul)? We tried Paper Moon and Rosario's with Rosario being the clear winner in my book and but my hubby prefers Paper Moon (but I think he likes it for the scene more than the food).

Which brings me to my next question. What celebrities have you seen in Turkiye? Every time I go, I see local and international celebrities. The most notable was some Turkish actor with his grandchild and the entire Beskitas football team complete with the media circus (and I had to walk through that to find my way out of Ataturk). This isn't celebrity, but My hubby and I ended up as extras in Ezel. Apparently they LOVE filming in Taksim.

Last but not least, do any yabancilar drink ayran? I just can't, but Bulut swears by it. I just can't, no way, not ever.

By the way, Mari, I pm'd you, but it was from my cell phone so idk if it made it to you.

I love Ayran BUT you have to get a good brand. My Hubby and I were at a Lake outside of Fethiye last year and stopped at a little restaurant by the lake and I had the BEST, I mean the BEST Ayran that I have ever tasted! I understand that you either really like it, or really hate it!

When my Hubby and I travel back and forth from Bodrum to Istanbul, we ALWAYS see Turkish stars at the airport and then of course, if your in the nicer part of Istanbul in the BIG Malls and nicer Restaurants, we see several.. However, I have YET to see a AMERICAN celebrity  BUT I know that they frequent Istanbul!

It's the little pot that you make Turkish Kafve in. I want to post a pic but I do not know how on this site. Do you have a machine like we do here in the states for homebrew? What am I missing Kelly? LOL

Here in Turkey, we have a rather nice size machine... it has 2 'pots' and can make either one or two cups per pot.... I have a lil Turkish Cezve with two little cups that match and took all three of these back to the states with me.... the machine is rather pricey and won't fit in my luggage!

I miss the Ramazan Pide that was fresh baked in the mornings. I had to learn how to make it here, but that oven they have? Wow!! I do not have this kind of thing, but when Kadir gets here, maybe he'll build me one in the backyard! LOL Hey it's not that far out there, my friends here in SF have a pizza oven in their outdoor kitchen. As for me? I have a weber bbq. LOL

Hello Ladies (men if you visit too)!

This morning while chatting with Luckywifey --kelly, I explained the reason for this Turk Kahvesi. Here's what I said:
"........
I saw a very common thread among us; we are all married / engaged to Turkish men, all face different personal issues and share some of the same kinds of joys, have our own yankee jobs(including but not limited to, stay at home moms) that differenciate us from each other, all need gf's that understand and listen because of these things I just stated, and we all are going thru the VJ together!" end quote.

I really hope you all have fun on here and get to meet each other as our days on VJ move forward. Please let's stay really postive, support through good and rough times, and encourage one another. Let's cut loose from the waiting pains on here and be ourselves, the reason why our men love us! Let's teach one another about what we learned of Turkey! All of us have traveled through different regions and have so many different experiences we can share. And when we cry? Lend a shoulder and a kind word. (L) Listen to one another's heart (L) I don't think that there is one among us who does not miss their Sweetheart when we are apart. But when we laugh??? Oh when girls laugh together... it makes us cry because we're so joyous! There will be days when the rain will not stop, but the sunshine between us will spread! B-) Overall, may this little Turkish Cafe bring your hearts much love and peace!

Always from my heart to yours,

Mari

Question of the day? What is your name in Turkish? LOL Make it up if you want, or adopt one you love?

My name "KELLY" in Turkish, I have not a clue... but otherwise I do know that the name 'Kelly has an Irish backround, coming from the name Ceallach. It can mean feminine, lady-like, or womanly.

Asia: East and PacificI-130 filing if alien spouse already in US

Hello everyone.
Am new member to the site.
If my daughter gets married and her spouse files I-130 and I-495 petitions for her today, how long approximately will it take for her to get visa.
She is currently in school here in the US, but her visa status expired over a year ago.

Any assistance I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Before anyone can assist you, you will need to provide more info such as what type of Visa she entered the US with in the first place and how long has it been expired and what country is your Daughter from? Also, are you referring to the I-485 perhaps? Like I said, more info is needed as to provide true and accurate information.

Good Luck! :)

I'm assuming your documents are original certified copies from issued by the nonUS country. They gave me this same issue. I sent them the original divorce papers of my husband. Which was printed on plain paper with a stamp that said certified copy of the issuing state. They did not accept it. I called NVC and insisted on that it was the original document that was given to him and it said certified copy on it. They said they will put in a note to reveiw it and call back in 10-15 days. I still received the RFE.

So I requested another certified document. And what I just received in the mail looks much prettier and more legitimate. Pretty colors, red and blue fibers, irridescent seal...I believe they will be much more pleased with this.

Our last interveiw they request another birth certificate for my husband and the new one had more security measures on it. Some of these documents are old and can be easily forged. In my experience requesting new documentation means that the new security technologies will be used to produce the document.

So yes. Wait for the RFE. Get your paperwork apostilled and send them what they want. Don't just wait and hope that they will change their mind about your documentation. In their eyes they didnt make a mistake.

Where did you get a Certified copy like the one that is mentioned above... (prettier and more legitimate)?????
Thank you in advance!

There aren't any because K3 is closed and converted to CR1 once it reaches the NVC :)

SO there isn't any point in applying in this fashion then huh?

I am just curious.... what are the pros and cons to filing a K-3 and likewise on the IR-1...if time isn't of the essence... K-3 seems a little simpler paper wise but more costly....

hi all,

ive posted in here a few times but havent really gotten a lot of advice sad.gif but i do have one question that im hoping people will help me with: recommendations for travel agencies in turkey, preferably istanbul, that i can buy a cheap ticket to the US with for my husband. there are no direct flights to the US from damascus, so he would have to go through their IST or Amman anyways. I got screwed this summer flying with Turkish Airlines and want to look for another possibility. Thanks a mil!

Hi Enraptured,

Did you buy the ticket directly from Turkish Airlines last time? I have never done that.I can see how it can be so expensive.
I do not like the flight crew members' (and ground crew members/luggage service) attitudes on Turkish Airlines flights.

http://www.bookinturkey.com is a good place to look for tickets. The best fares usually can be found midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday etc) and away from popular holidays.Uusually KLM, AirFrance,Lufthansa offer cheaper tickets. Never traveled first class or business class so I do not know them but I like Air France economy the best.
Also try to search flexible (+/-3 days) dates.

It takes a month or two for me to find and settle on a bargain ticket.I search endlessly, around the clock sometimes biggrin.gif

You can even get your tickets from expedia.com. I tried hotprice(I think it was hotprice) once. We do not have to buy the ticket from the city/country of departure.Today we can buy a ticket anywhere regardless of where we are going to and where we are departing from...

internetkafe...I see you live in Phoenix...we have been driving every few weeks to try a new Turkish restaurant in Phoenix...we don't have any Turkish restaurants here in Tucson...just got back form Med Fresh Grill in Tempe and it was very good! Efes was 50/50 Arabic/Turkish...ok and not worth the money! You know of any other restaurants?

Wow, how did I not see this message of yours? biggrin.gif

Sorry. We live in Wisconsin. Phoenix, AZ is the place where immigration papers were filed at. I want to visit AZ very much. Also Nevada.Because of CSI I started being interested in that region.

You are lucky to have several Turkish restaurants in your state. We have one and a half in the entire WI biggrin.gif The half calls itself Mediterranean restaurant (its name is Tulip). We went there a few times but its offerings are not authentic enough for my taste. The other restaurant is co-owned by a half Turk/half Syrian and an Egyptian. Their food is better prepared but the restaurant is very small and not all the menu items are Turkish. But they are all very delicious. I am getting hungry biggrin.gif

If you come to WI, let us know smile.gif
