US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion 11 on I-134

Ok Alex. I can always leave it blank since I'm going on the interview and fill it in there if need be.

Its not uncle Sam I am worried about.

So... who is it you're worried about?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion 11 on I-134

Question about I134. I will fill this form out, hopefully, by mid jan. My income for 2006 will be around 90K.
In my case would this be all I would have to indicate on the affadavit? I could leave my savings, 401s and all that off the record?
And then what sort of back up would I need? Just my W2?
I have no real estate, just money buried and I would rather leave that undisclosed at this point.

Thanks.

Read the instructions, the only back up you need is the letter from your employer. Many have suggested taking pay stubs and tax returns, but I dont see that requested anywhere in any of the instructions we received. I'm sending them anyway just in case they're asked for, but I'm not going to have her volunteer them.

In regards to the other, hehe, if its buried in 401k's and bank savings, you can bet Uncle Sam already knows about it anyway :P

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion 11 on I-134

Hi all
We need assistance on a question on the I-134 form
Lorry is filling these out now so I can take them back with me after my Christmas visit
and have them ready for my interview
She's unsure about a couple questions and how to answer

Do You have other personal property, The reasonalble value which is ?
She lives in an Apt Do they mean all her personal belongings like furniture ect.

She has no realestate as being an Apt dweller.

Also Question 11
Does she intend to support me (the Fiance ) with room, board
and money and for how long
Does she put we intend to marry and she intends to support me monetarily and provide room and board forever a we will be married
She won't have to support me so what does she put for the answers

Thank All
Allie

I think, (and I'm guessing), other personal property in the sense which could be used for an affidavit of support, would be expensive collections of jewelery, stamps, coins - or better yet more liquid property like gold coins, (eagles, maple leafs, etc). Anythings she might own that does not fall into the other categories that could be converted to cash.

Regarding 11, I would say that you plan to marry and support each other permanently.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK-1,second denial...i am devastated, help plz,
Many retired people have significant assets in non qualified tax shelters, real property etc - but don't hve to file taxes because their pension(s) and social security income are low enough that no taxes are owed. If the cosponsor does not have tax returns, then he should submit a statement of net worth with evidence of ownership of each asset.

Bill

Thx a lot guys!~

My step-father has 03/04 returns and he has more than enough income and assest to be a cosponsor. I will have copies of em tomorrow and mail em to China along with my another letter.

I was kinda freak out when i heard her crying over the phone. It takes a lot of effort to submitt additional materials in China. 12 hrs of overnight train travel, dangerous neighborhood in Guangzhou and all that. sigh...i just read some other forums and there are some stories of cases been turned back to DHS. That really scared me.

oh btw, does retirement affect one's eligibility to be a cosponsor? even tho one has enough income and so.

Under these circumstances, I'd take the time to go to a good immigration attorney and have him look over your paperwork and make sure you get them all the required documentaion this time, so she does not have to make yet another trip.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVisa denied- HELP!
UPDATE!

I called the US Embassy in Bangkok but at first, they would not let me speak to anyone in the visa unit and insisted that I must email. I demanded to speak to the operators supervisor and explaind that it was my opinion that the officer there was readjuticating the case, and wound up actually getting to speak to the officer who did the interview. After hearing my argument - she agreed to reverse her decision and grant the visa for my fiance, and explaind how, under the circumstances, that she could get a statment from Amphur about custody of her child.

SO... half way there, fiance approved, child pending :P

I'd have your fiance call the embassy and first request to speak to the supervisor of who ever answers the telephone, then tell the supervisor, (should be an American), that you want to speak to the Consul General, (get the name first), and register a complaint.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionRe-interview question
Assuming you have all of the necessary documentation and financially qualify, all that remains is proving that there is an ongoing relatioship. Just make sure you have plenty of evidence of that, and the interview should not be a problem. Additionally, study the sample questions that the consular official might ask her, and be prepared for that interview.

Oddly enough, my fiance didn't even have to answer a single quesiton or show one shred of evidence of a continuing relationship at her interview. This most likely was due to the fact that she got a 221g, (request for additional documents), at her interview and I burned up the phone lines for 5 days arguing with the Embassy lol. I guess they figured my hell raising over the additional documents they were requesting was sufficient 'evidence'. When she went back and gave them her passport(s) (for her and her daughter), she said the consular official did not ask a single question, he just smiled at her and said 'you can come and get your visa's tomorrow'

Are you sure you need a tax return? I didn't. It was not in the Packet 3 or Packet 4 instructions that I received. I gave them to Pao just in case they asked for them, but the never asked. The I-134 does not require tax returns unless you are self employed.

If I were you, I'd go ahead and do the interview as scheduled, and in the mean time order the police certificate. The worst that can happen, (i think), is that she will get a 221g and will not be issued the visa immediatly, but her application will be pended until you get it. There is also the chance that the consular official will not notice and it will 'slip through the cracks'.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 3?

Hey guys!

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question... but what is packet 3? What exactly is in it? And who will receive it, the USC or the fiance? How long does it take to get it from the day we receive the Noa2?

About those forms, so they will mail me the forms instead of having me to get centain websites to download them myself?

Packet 3 is mailed from the embassy to the foreign fiance. You should have your fiance scan every page and send it to you IMHO.

I would check with other couples going through the same embassy if possible and they may be able to provide you with the packet three copies or at least tell you what 'consulate specific' requirements there are. Keep in mind that they change the requirements from time to time, and that what someone else got in their packet three may not exactly match what you get in yours. Even the online documents cannot be trusted based on my experience because the instructions we received in our actual packet 3 did not match what Bangkok had online.

....i was thinking maybe a life insurance plan to make it look better but my lawyer says dont worry about it......

Doesn't your laywer care about his family? (Of couse, maybe he's rich and doesn't need it..) I think this would be a good idea, some inexpensive term life would be good if you can qualify. (Very important coverage to have IMHO, especially if you dont have alot of other assets, and not just to make your I-134 look better).

Your packet 3 will have specific information depending on which country your fiance is from. I suggest you fill out your profile and timeline here and direct your questions to others seeking to bring thier fiances from the same country (Philippines I presume?). It's very hard to give you much helpful advice as it is.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)what do the USCIS dates actually mean?
when I look at the graphs, for example: USCIS statistics show processing times of average 5-6 months. does this mean for both NOA1, and NOA2?...from start to the time they send it on to the Fiances embassy?
...If I filed and they recieved application in Oct. 2012...its going on 3 months now.....does the 5-6 months mean approval or disapproval for the fiest NOA?.....after 3 months still waiting, can I hope for the NOA2 to still be approved in the same 5-6 month window?

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusRe-visiting Russia

Marc, were you in Vlad? What hotel did you stay at, airport transfers, what did you do... etc?

There is a wealth of info on here for trips to Moscow and St. Pete, but not too much for the Far East. I think besides Turbo Guy, you may be the only one to have been in the Far East.

(And Laura K on here somewhere!..... LAURA... WHERE ARE YOU???)

I wasn't in Vladivostok, just the closet airport to my hotel in Nakhodka.

Olga and her parents met me at the airport and drove me to my hotel then we went to their house for my first Russian supper. I felt awful being so tired but they were very understanding! :)

We did go to Vladivostok for a day and I really wanted to see the US consulate building and some of the historic buildings in Vladivostok, not enough time though.

We did go to a museum to the Primore region, an aquarium, dolphinarium, saw the "White House" and a nice monument to the Revolution. (I will try to resize the photos so I can fit them all in my photo album tonight after work or tomorrow)

I never found much on the Russian Far East except an article on the city of Nakhodka and a "walking" tour of Vladivostok. Most of the "travel Russia" sites always mention Moscow or St. P., one book (Lonely Planet's Belarus and Russia) actually mentioned Nakhodka being a nice place to visit to see some cliffs, I don't think I saw these cliffs as when I asked Olga about them she said "if I was there she would show me but it is a little far". Considering we usually just took the bus or walked, we did take a ????? at night, as it was quite cold. I did not mind walking except for all the stairs... everywhere there were stairs! The movie theater we went to had probably 100 steps to it...this is not including the 1,000 steps to get to the theater! :ranting:

It was nice though we saw a movie that we both wish we had not seen the first time. I had not seen it before and didn't remember much of the previews I had seen of it before my trip, the movie... Brace yourselves!

????e? (Hostel, Dubbed in Russian)

For those who do not know, this movie is 1) not for the weak (It's a very graphic hack and slash) and 2) REALLY not for Americans traveling overseas! Even with my then limited (still limited, though growing every day!), I knew what was going on! Olga picked it! <_<

The next day we saw a cute Russian cartoon/movie and all was better!

:secret: I also scored a Russian version of Windows XP (SP2!) for a very decent price. ;) I had been wanting XP for sometime and I don't mind my little ???? button. Certainly not for the price I paid for it! :)

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusRe-visiting Russia
I know I was very nervous upon entry, the rest of the trip was cake though! I stayed in a hotel the whole trip and they registered me with no charges.

I did get my visa through www.russia-visa.com, also. They were quite nice to work with and I had no problems with them (they got it corrected for me) when I discovered a MAJOR error on my visa (My visa said I was born in 1906, I wasn't!)!

The only hassle I had was entering on the tourist visa when the officer learned Olga was going to show me around. She said I should have gotten a guest visa, but as I was staying in a hotel I thought the tourist visa was the visa I NEEDED! Next time I go, I will definately get Olga to get the invitation letter and hope the hotel will register me! That is, of course if there IS a next time, I WILL take another trip next February if our case is still pending.=/

I would love to go more often but as mentioned the prices for hotels are quite steep, I think I paid $130/night! :crying:

I never paid any fines of had any interaction with the militsa. :innocent:

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusAP what the hell for? Dont change name!!!!

Another key advantage for our Visa Waiver Program countries is that when you are still in the "dating" part of the whole visajourney you can actually come and go as you please. Not to mention you guys actually have jobs with incomes closer to if not higher than what Americans make. Sure makes life a lot easier while you are apart or planning visits. While our mostly "poor" Russian ladies have to decide to marry us without even seeing America. For us that was the biggest barrier to overcome. I can handle the wait apart, but the fact that only I could realistically visit still drives me nuts.
See for example:
http://www.visajourn...showtopic=21098
But there are plenty of other threads with similar problems in getting a tourist visa.

I feel ya there Satellite, my biggest concerns are not ONLY the culture shock of coming to America but the climate shock! Tucson is FAR different from the Russian Far Eat. There was snow on the ground during my trip, the last time Tucson saw snow was something like 1993!

About the income, that also is VERY true, Olga makes 1200 Rubles a MONTH! 1 ruble = about $0.04, how many of the UK/Canadian fiance(e) only make about $50/month? My understanding is outside of Moscow or Pete's, this is about the average income, in Moscow or Pete's it is closer to $300/MONTH! "It's Russia!" ;)

I understand Slim's feelings, I make pretty good money, ESPECIALLY for Tucson but the cost of the trip I took in March was about $3000 (not including spending cash), I still could not afford to do that more then twice a year and the visa means I have to plan well in advance!

Yet, while browsing these forums you can read of people with thoughts such as "We've been apart x weeks and I miss them soo much, I think I will go visit this weekend". I wish I could go for a weekend but if you read my travel plans below, my weekend would be over before I arrived there! :(

That's it, I just need to win the lottery then all MY troubles would be over...at least were my loved one is concerned!
Marc and OlgaMale02006-07-11 15:37:00
Russia, Ukraine and BelarusAP what the hell for? Dont change name!!!!

If the folks here on the Russia forum had to "struggle" through the visa process the way those from the UK/Canada do.... I don't know how we'd make it. I mean gosh, it must be hard to go three whole months without seeing your S/O. And all the "hassles" to travel back and forth, the six month visitor visas, man... it's gotta be hard. I feel sorry for those guys.

Is that my sarcasm radar going off again?!

I tell you all 1 thing, I'm seriously considering quiting my job and cashing out my 401(k) and moving off to Russia...too bad my retirement plan isn't exactly up to par with my age, if it was, I wouldn't be as hesitant! :crying:  :crying:

For those who didn't know, the easiest way to immigrate to Russia (like the US and probably most of the world) is to marry a citizen...I want to know if they will accept a legal US wedding as I am thinking in 20-30 years when I retire I want us to move there. This is assuming she does not take US Citizenship (just remains an LPR) which is probably a bigger hassle!

I am assuming I live that long.

:ot:

I thought I read somewhere within these pages that someone had an unofficial wedding in Russia, does anyone recall reading that? I am planning on returning to the Far East in Feb (hoping that Olga has the visa then) and having (or attempting to have) an unofficial ceremony for her parents, then fly back together! :)

/hijack on

Also we plan on visiting St Pete's and Moscow eventually (sometime after she receives travel authorization),

Great news chuckles!!!

Very soon (well, I don't know about VERY soon... but in the next couple of weeks) you'll see that website update, and you'll have an interview date!

Get that I-134 stuff sent ASAP!!! (If you haven't done it already.) I had to get Elena's interview pushed back because I was a chopf##k and sent it through USPS right before her interview. (Which in retrospect wasn't such a bad deal, Russian Post dropped the ball, and held it at the office for two weeks before she finally called them to find out where the hell it was.... just a word of advice if you do use USPS, write her phone number on the envelope!!!) Or just use FedEx/DHL/UPS, that way you have a tracking number that actually works. If you send it now though, you should be able to get it to her in plenty of time for only $16 or so via USPS.

Actually USPS has a global express option which I used when I learned the letter of intent had to be an actual letter, thanks to VJ, which I discovered shortly after my trip! :o

This option allows tracking and is MUCH faster then air mail. I knew when the package left the US and when it cleared Russia's Customs House! All together about 2 weeks and about 2 weeks faster then air!

It was about $25 to mail the letter to Olga (she returned it Russian Express Mail which was just as fast! It was very expensive from a Russian point of view at 1200?)! I also mailed her a copy of the packet sent to USCIS this way! I intend to send the originals and the I-134 this way as well!

About learning to read Russian myself, i agree it is prolly a good idea... but where to start. Anybody have good online resources for me to get started on?

I'm concentrating mostly on speaking as of now but I have a good working knowledge of the alphabet, but there are some letters that just drive me up a wall! ? ? ? and the worst one that I know from an american point of view, ? =

I use a software translator I bought during my trip and read the translation to Olga during our weekly talks and she seems impressed and ALWAYS understands what I am stumbling over to say!

Ah yes Babel fish!

I have never had any success with the webpage translation but it is useful when translating sentences and words.

Word of advice though it will sound VERY strange through the translation!

I have written short sentences using it and translating, then translating it back into English...very strange indeed!

I think that website posted would be much better, in fact I think I shall send that off to Olga! =)

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusRussia Visa
Go there to meet her, yes you can meet in another country but I recommend visiting Russia, it is truely a beautiful country with wonderful people!

I enjoyed the fact that I was able to:

Meet Olga's family
See her town
See her work
See how she lives
Experience the Russian culture

However, depending on where she lives the cost can be quite different! Slim mentioned $2000+ for a trip, I WISH my trip was ONLY $2000!

My total:

$1695 airfare to VVO (Vladivostok)
$950 Hotel (very nice hotel though! =)
$170 Russian Tourist Visa
$1300 spending cash

$4115 total

My next trip, probably in Feb 2007 will be less expensive as I will apply for the visa through the consulate in San Fran, instead of using the online visa service ($70 savings) and I won't take as much spending cash, that was far more then was actually needed! =)

I actually bank at 2 banks, 1 saving account and 1 checking.

I plan on submitting statements from both but the savings account (higher balance) is less then a year old I opened it back in October when I first started planning my trip, now I'm using it to save for our future expenses. Currently just under $1,000 and a long way to go before I am confortable with it's balance! :(

This tends to leave my checking account somewhat lower then 3 digits! :o

Again, my tax information (I have 3 years of them) shows I make more then enough!
Marc and OlgaMale02006-07-04 17:16:00
Russia, Ukraine and BelarusBank statements, Moscow

For Katya's interview I just sent photocopies of my two most recent checking account statements. Here is a complete list of what I sent with the I-134:

Checking account statement (2 most recent months, photocopies)
401k statement (most recent quarterly statement, photocopy)
2003, 2004, and 2005 Income Tax Returns (photocopies)
2005 W-2 (photocopy)
Employment Verification Letter (original, notarized)
Paycheck stubs (3 most recent, photocopies)

I like this list!

I worry about my "Employment Verification Letter" since it is to include wages. ($5.50/hour)

I work as a blackjack dealer and earn far more in tips then I am paid by the casino. State law requires 100% of our tips be reported... so on my Tax Forms I am very capable of supporting Olga and myself, in the letter...it may not seem that I am! :crying:

I guess I should start saving my bank statements! =O

Also the 401(k) statement I like, I thought of that but, for some reason, did not think it would be usable...even though it is an asset. Will definately include now though! :D

Good luck!

That said I have read it is next to impossible for a Russian to receive a US Tourist visa.

I do believe Chuckles is right on though, having traveled to other "western" countries with visas showing you honored them would be a big bonus!

Also showing LOTS and LOTS of strong ties to Russia would benefit you GREATLY!

I was amazed how easy it was the other way, then again how many Americans (myself not included  ) want to immigrate to Russia?

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusMoscow NOA2 to Interview
I have our stuff organized into 3 envelopes:

1. Originals from I-129F submission.

2. Recent proof of ongoing relationship, which includes NOA1, copy of IMBRA RFE, NOA2 and other assorted items (phone bills, even the packaging from a CD Olga sent me recently...though the CD was stolen from my car with the stereo. :( )

3. I-134 Affidavit of support and evidence

I HOPE this will help Olga! Also labeled the envelopes in English AND Russian! (hope the translator was close! LOL =)
