Be very careful. Only approved doctors can do these vaccinations. Most of these doctors are not on common insurance plans. I just had another friend at work with this similar situation and paid $100 a shot due to the doctors not being on the insurance plans.

I would check either the embassy web site or the NVC web site for more information and answers. I'm not sure if this applies to you, but make sure your doctor meets the required qualifications.

I am confused about this. I am bringing my fiance and her daughter here from Thailand. Her daughter has her immunization record, (as she needs it for school), but my fiance does not. She was planning to get immunized prior to comming to the US simply because it's cheaper there.

Are you saying there is some list of USCIS 'approved doctors' that have to do them, or are you just saying that in order to be covered by your insurance you have to go to a doctor on your medical plan...

If my fiance gets her vaccinations in Thailand, brings ther record here, and has her daugthers immunization records fom Thailand, will that be sufficient for AOS?

US Citizenship General DiscussionPlease Help with the N400 Process
Hey folks! We're BAAAAAK! :)

The links to the N400 USCIS Instructions is broken... Can someone fix the link or have the new one?

Things have have been going great for us, but its time to quit procrastinating and get on with things. Can anyone tell me if the "step by step" guide above is current and accurate?

You can pretty much see what our situation is from our timeline. Can anyone in a similar situation add anything else to the proceedures or provide any up-to-date information that would help us to avoid any potential pitfalls or problems in this process?

Also what is the cost now and how long are applications taking?

Hi folks!

My wife came to the US on a Fiance Visa in February of 2006, we were married in March, but we piddled around, (you know how time flies when you're having fun smile.gif ), and we did not file for AOS until June and she was approved in October.

Where the confusion comes in is something I was reading on the USCIS website:

"You are given conditional resident status on the day you are lawfully admitted to the United States on an immigrant visa or receive adjustment of status."

So which is it "the day she was lawfully admitted" (in which case we need to file to lift condtions 90 days before the 2nd anniversary of the day she entered in February 2006), or "receive adjustment of status" (in which case we need to file for the lifting of conditions 90 days before 2nd anniversary of receiving adjustment of status)???

On a side note, my experinece has been that USCIS NEVER does anything within 90 days - LOL! So what happens when we do file 90 days before and they still dont have things done after the 90 days?

Lastly, I remember reading that she can go for citizenship after 3 years - 3 years from which / what date?

Thanks for the link - I'm looking at the form and I assume that all I have to do is list my stepdaughter on my wife's petition - is that what they mean by "joint petition"? Will I need to submit evidence for my step-daughter as well, such as here report cards from school etc?

My wife and her daughter came here from Thailand on a fiance visa and we were married in March of 2007 and she received her green card in October of 2007. (If anyone remembers me, everything has been going great, we're both working and I am looking into adopting my step-daughter).

My question is, what is the next step? Everything I have done so far is on my timeline. I know that we need to file something else soon but I dont know what it is - help!

I have not been posting here lately however this site and its members have been so helpful to me throughout this process I figure I should keep it updated for posterity smile.gif

I might add that my wife and I are very happy and that everything has been going very well. My new 10 year old step-daughter loves it here and is now very fluent in English which is amazing to me considering she did not know hardly a word of English before coming here. I also love her dearly and plan to begin the process of adoption soon.

Does anyone know if there is a forum like this for adoption?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionQuestion Regarding "Verification Of Inclusion Of A Dependent"
I had forgotten what a hassel it was to get questions answered at the USCIS 800 number... *sigh* - and I am getting conflicting answers again..

We received three I-797C's:

1. Regarding the appointment for biometrics for my wife with an "Application Number"
2. Receipt for payment including notice of one year extension for employment and travel (for my wife)
3. Same as 2 above titled "Verification Of Inclusion Of A Dependent" for my step-daughter

The "receipt number" for 2 and 3 above match, but do not match the "application number" on 1 above. I tried entering the "receipt number" in order to add the new case to the online case status at the uscis website and the receipt number was not recognized, (I used the "application number" which did work).

I called the USCIS 800 number to try to find out if my 10-year-old step daughter needs to accompany my wife to the biometrics appointment. The customer service representative told me "yes". I also wanted to know why I could not enter the "receipt number" into the online case status at the USCIS webstite and was trransferred to an immigration officer, (my call was escalated).

When I got the immigration officer, I was told that since my step-daughter was under 14 years old that she did not need to go to the biometrics appointment with my wife, but that we should schedule an Info-Pass appointment at the local office to get a stamp for the one year extension on both of thier passorts...

When dealing with USCIS, I figure it's always better to be safe than sorry, so we're planning to for my step-daughter to accompany my wife to the biometrics appointment and have scheduled an info-pass appointment.

Anything else we should do or be aware of that USCIS has failed to inform us of?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionDo I have to send copies of my tax returns?
I took some criticism for not including tax returns when I posted (in the July Filers thread) a list of the items I sent with my appliation to remove conditions for my wife and step daugher. As it turns out, I was approved without them. Could have just been a fluke, but the way I read the instructions, the tax returns are merely "examples" of types of evidence that you may want to include. Here, again, is my list:

• Copies of the social security cards and green cards of daughter and wife
• Two original sworn affidavits by U.S. citizen friends, attesting to our relationship and marriage.
• Copy of beneficiary statement for my retirement plan
• Copy of my life insurance beneficiary
• Copy of auto insurance declarations page listing both of us
• Copy of my wifes on-line dependants for life and health insurance listing me and her daughter
• Copy of a statement of an auto loan showing our joint liability
• Copy of my step-daughters most recent report card from the local elementary school
• Copy of the check to DHS from our joint checking account

Tax returns were not sent, and the approval went smoothly.

what I know is you have to include your tax returns, if not you might get RFE for that.


Well, as I read the instructions, tax returns were "examples" of financal records to send. I have not even filed for 2008 yet since I did an extension - i guess I'll see. I notice that some people did not include afidavits in their list... I don't think that everything given in the examples are "required" - at least it didn't read that way to me.. I guess I'll find out! smile.gif

I can be added to the list. I sent:

• Copies of the social security cards and green cards of daughter and wife
• Two original sworn affidavits by U.S. citizen friends, attesting to our relationship and marriage.
• Copy of beneficiary statement for my retirement plan
• Copy of my life insurance beneficiary
• Copy of auto insurance declarations page listing both of us
• Copy of my wifes on-line dependants for life and health insurance listing me and her daughter
• Copy of a statement of an auto loan showing our joint liability
• Copy of my step-daughters most recent report card from the local elementary school
• Copy of the check to DHS from our joint checking account

I hope this is enough smile.gif

I'd like to know what sorts of RFE's people are getting (if any)...

After tracking my petition on-line via the #'s on the back of my check, it stated a notice was sent to me on May18. I waited and waited...by June12 I couldn't wait anymore therefore I called Vermont and they said it was mailed and I should have rec'd it but they would go ahead and mail a new one. Yesterday, i thoutht I rec'd it but it was only a letter saying "your petition was rec'd and a notice was mailed 5/18...unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, we were unable to produce a duplicate receipt notice...retain this letter for future reference and as proof of receipt."

I guess I'll never receive the original :unsure:

Has this ever happened to anyone? Will I ever need it?

I guess I should be happy they at least responded with something. :unsure:



The NOA2 is the one you'll need, the NOA1 is just a receipt.

I just got my wifes NOA for AOS and it had the wrong address! I was lucky because my postman caught it. I have copies of everything I sent and it appears that whoever entered the data for the AOS made a typo. One thing you might do is verify that they have your address entered correctly, (if you've not already done so).

As long as they have your correct address, I agree that the NOA1 is not that important and that it's the NOA2 that you will need in the future.

Hi... In our case.. I got an email with the interview date letter attached to it... I then forwared it to my wife in Brazil.

Hi daphne...I took my green card and my driver license... and I signed the paper there in the ceremony. I did not have to go to the SSN office. You dont get the passport right there and then... you have to pay the fee and send in your apllication for it, they have all the info at most post offices.

Our interview was yesterday and all went well. She had only one copy of DS-156 and she was asked to bring a second copy today at 1pm, which she did.
The visa was approved yesterday though.

Saludos a todos from Bogota, Colombia..

Great news, after 4 hours at the Colombian Embassy today, Our K1 Visa was approved..

They asked for no additional evidence and I was never asked any questions.. Maritza was only asked about the dates of my last trip and how we met.. They told her the paper work looked good and they were approving the Visa..

I cannot possibly tell everyone how much the VJ Community has helped, but, there is no doubt in my mind we would not have been able to get through this without all of you..

I just wrote the NVC number with a black pen on the top- right corner of all our documents...I said to my self that if I needed, I could always get new ones...I just did not want to give NVC any excuse to delay the process any longer.
