Bill,

Thanks for providing the quote. It doesn't help me understand with certainty, but I'm most inclined to think they mean the face-to-face meeting.

The reason I asked the question was because if they want more information about an initial contact over the internet, they might have been asking to clarify in their own mind whether or not the contact was via an IMB as defined in the Act.

Yodrak

Bill,

Does "actually met" mean your first meeting in person - face to face - or your first contact with each other of any kind - such as in a chat room, writing e-mail via a 'dating' web site or after obtaining contact information through such a site or from a mutual friend?

Yodrak

...

They also want more details on how we actually met.

Bill

Specifically it says and I quote:

Submit information regarding the circumstances under which the petitioner and beneficiary met to establish the relationship

Yodrak, I posted a newer thread in the forum that goes into much more specifics, I would greatly appreciate your thoughts. I dont want to assume they mean 'fact to face' meeting and then get a 2nd RFE.

I posted this on the regular forum, in the RFE thread, and I think I should put this in the Thailand thread as well. YODRAK - CHECK YOUR MSGS :D

Tom sent a priority mail BOX of evidence of meeting in person and got approval in less than 30 days, here is what I sent:

copies of my airline tickets, receipts and itenerarry
copies of my hotel receipts
copies of my luggage tags
copies of my boarding passes
copies of my receipt for the engagement ring
copies of my passport with Thailand stamps
4 photos of us together

All this was sent for 2 trips I made to Thailand in April and July of 2006

The RFE specifically requests copies of bank statements or credit card statements showing withdrawals and purchases made in Thailand that include my name, location and full date.

I don't care what anyone says MORE EVIDENCE IS BETTER, THE MORE THE BETTER!

Maybe some of you have been approved with less than what I sent, and maybe it depends on who the person who is assigned to your case, maybe other factors play a role, but I am convinced beyond doubt that to send 'too much' is way better than not to send enough!

I will be posting this to the RFE thread also.

They also want more details on how we actually met.

PS I AM THRILLD THAT THIS IS ALL THEY NEED :D (unless I get another RFE  )

Ok I owe everyone an apology for disappearing. I was freaked out and I'm sure I stressed a few of you out. Well everything went just fine Pond didn't receive her visa on wednesday because there was a little catch since she had her name changed when she was younger but friday she picked it up no problem.
We will be meeting at LAX on thursday at 8:40pm!! I cannot tell you how excited I am.

So to everyone who was worried about the coup affecting Visas I dont think it did much.

Thank you to everyone for your help..

now to the AOS...

Without kowing your exact dates of travel, hard for me to check, but I would check with China Air too - I've made 2 trips to Thailand and found out that on the second trip Eva was less expensive - but about a month ago I checked for December and China Air was cheaper again.

You might also want to take a look at sites like Travelocity and Expedia.

It might even be cheaper to fly into Thailand and go from there to Cambodia.

Hello Stone,
I would recomend you to be there. The lady at window 5 can be a real bear and 1 mistake with her and she will really shake your girl up. We had 2 meetings with her and a friend of mine also had 2 meetings (she was alone at the interview and she was shook up). If she gets the nice man as we got at window 6 you will be ok.
I would say calm down and Jai yen yen. All will be ok.

  I hope I will not be ineterviewed with the lady you mentioned...!! Is she the only lady in the US embassy...1 week more  and I'll have my interview.

As far as I can tell, Stone hasn't posted anything here since Sep 20th, (right after the coup) and his fiance had not received her visa yet. Does anyone know if the coup has had any affect on visa's in Thailand? At last report, Stone's fiance still had not received hers.

The only thing I know you can do is request BKK embassy open a provisional file. You could probably indicate your circumstances on the request, including the fact that your case was expedited. Check out this link:

thank you that is very helpful. now i can do this before the BKK consulate receives our case?

I think that's the whole idea, to get the case going before they receive it, at least that is what I gather from the insturctions. I have not talked to anyone who has actually done it, so I'm not really sure.

update. my fiance called the embassy and they said that the reason she needed an updated police certificate is because a few thai ladies committed some crimes after they got their first certificate. during the interview day, they ran a check online and found out about the crimes and thats why they want a new certificate within 3 months. I think its kinda dumb especially if her record is clean. They are going to check her record in the computer anyways even if she gets a new police certificate or not. i will let you guys know. just to be safe I told her to go get another one.

We're not quite to this stage yet, but what I'm hearing is that its not best to 'jump the gun' and get all that stuff way ahead of time. How long does it take to get the police report? Do you have to make an appointment or can you just go and pick it up?

Also, I am hoping that our NOA2 is close to being approved, what things could we be getting out of the way ahead of time?

GOT IT!!
Pond had her interview this morning got there about 6am. Got the call 10 minutes ago about 9:45am bangkok time. Very simple interview the woman was very cordial and caring.
The questions she was asked: (in case anyone is preparing for theirs and curious)

WHere and when we met:
how many times I had been to visit
when the last time I was there
where she will live

pretty simple. I was worried since I wasn't able to go with her.

I cannot thank everyone here enough I would have been lost without this website.

Sep 20, 2006: scheduled to pick up visa. <----

My Fiancee is getting close to interview date I would like to know what should start doing in the US to prepare for her arrival, school, jobs, winter (New York) driver's license.

Please share any experience you have when your fiancee left Thailand to come to the US I would like to hear from you and maybe I can avoid common mistake.

Thank you.

Jean

My FIRST suggestion is to get a 'good' rice cooker :) After doing a lot of shopping online and reading customer reviews, I wound up getting the Zojirushi NH-VBC18 - again, I found the best deal on Ebay for $170. I almost paid the same amount for a Panasonic that did not have the 'fuzzy logic' or the 'induction heating' and my fiance said it was the 'old style' that most people don't use anymore :P

You might also want to consider driving school so your fiance can get used to driving on the 'right' side of the road with the steering wheel on the 'left'.

An appropriate beginning, intermediate, or advanced 'English as a Second Language' course at a local community college.

If you have not already done so, find a good calling card to Thailand that does not have extra connection fees so your fiance can talk to her friends and family in Thailand easily and cheaply.

See if you can make acquaitances in the local Thai community and maybe even establish some friendships with other couples such as yourself.

Get extra house slippers and get used to having your guests take off their shoes when entering your house or apartment :P

Get your fiance a cell phone.

And don't forget to check the maximum size and weight of suitcases for the airline you'll be using and get as much as you can on the airplane coming over to save on shipping costs of personal effects. You might even save money by upgrading your tickets so you can bring 3 suitcases instead of just 2.

Hi all,

As I try to be patient and wait for my NOA2, I've been busying myself with trying to think of things to get for the house that will make the transition to life in the USA a little easier and a little more pleasant for my fiance and her 7 year old daughter. Among those things I've been purchasing are Thai language DVD's which seem to be a little hard to come by. (My fiance is fluent in English but her daughter is not, also I just thought it would be nice to have a few movies with Thai soundtracks).

I hope the moderators don't consider this 'advertising'.

I just would like those in similar situations to know about 'mychaam' on Ebay. She sells very high quality DVD's for super low prices, (if they're bootlegs, I can't tell the difference, the quality is excellent). I also place a large order with 'suponsdvdshop' as she was able to find several titles she did not have listed, but I have not actually received the order yet.

I also found a 72 DVD box set of Disney movies that have Thai audio tracks from 'magaly1980' but I have not received the order yet so I have not verified the soundtracks.

Because I had such a hard time finding reliable sources for DVD's with Thai soundtracks, I just thought others might benefit from my efforts here. I found other sources but they charge quite a bit more than these.

What, you dont like my 'ka poon krab'? - its supposed to mean 'thank you' - at least thats what the transliteration sounds like to me :P

MY BIGGEST questions relates to my finaces 7 year old daughter. I am getting anwers that are drving me nutts. Eveything from 'it won't be any problem' to 'you better get an attorney fast!' *sigh*...

My fiance's daugther has never know the father. The father was a farang that divorced her and split after one year, and she has not seen him since. She lived with him in South Afriica for about 6months and she left him when he was unfaithful. He divorced her exparte in SA and has since moved to Singapore, but his exact whereabouts are unknown,

She made a 'mistake' in college and the child was born out of wedlock, although the fathers name is listed on the birht certificate. The whereabouts of the father is completely unknown. USCIS tells me they don't require the consent of the father for the child to accompany my fiance on a K-2. But some people keep telling me different. I'm really confused about this.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSenator/ congressman contact question
QUOTE (Haole @ Aug 7 2009, 11:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I've called my senator for help 2 times and his immigration specialist came thru BIGTIME in both incidents.
Never had to sign anything.
She took care of both problems within one week of my calls.

Friend of mine had a immuigration problem also and had the same positive results.

Sounds like you got a great Senator. From reading posts in this and other forums, results vary widely.

I also am going to be trying to adopt my step-daughter. I've called a few attorneys and have not been able to get my questions answered, maybe you can give me some insight. My stepdaugher's natural father is a citizen of Singapore that was living in Thailand, and disappeared shortly after her birth and has not seen her since. Before I can try to adopt her, we have to terminate his parental rights. Would the US courts have jurisdiction in this or do we have to get something from Thailand?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSenator/ congressman contact question
You say "almost everyone else in March is getting their approvals" and I notice you filed yours the END of March. I'd give it more time. If you start bugging your congressman now, they might get annoyed in the event you REALLY need them for something. This process takes a lot if time and you have to learn to be patient, otherwise, you are just going to drive yourself crazy.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSAWASDEE 3 (2009 Thai thread restarted)
Question for experts on this thread:

I just went to buy tickets for myself and my wife and stepdaughter to go to Thailand for Songkran 2010. My wife just got a new credit card with 0% interest we used to purchase the tickets. Problem is, we purchased my wifes ticket in her married name and it is her maiden name showing on her passport - so the name on the tickkets and on the passport does not match. It seems to me that I read and or was told that as long as you have a certified copy of your marriage certificate attached to the passport we'll be OK - can anyone advise me about this based on "actual experience" rather than conjecture?

Thanks!

Sawasdee!

I have not posted here in a while. I am back active, (at least once a week now), on this board as we are going through the I-751 process now. I've had to deal with a lot of strange issues throughtout this process such as assisting my wife in getting a prior marriage to a man in Singapore anulled and getting approval from Amphur for my step-daughter to accompany my wife, (then fiance), to the US.

I don't have time to read through all the posts here, but if I can be of assistance to anyone who's having similar problems, feel free to drop me a note.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RFE Master List

Bill

PS I AM THRILLD THAT THIS IS ALL THEY NEED :D (unless I get another RFE  )

I don't understand. You sent all of that information and then got an RFE for you to clarify the unsolicited information you sent? And this is good? And you encourage others to do the same?

Did you know that Adjudicating Officers are required to look at (and then vet and evaluate) every item that you send in? Did you know that sometimes the evidence raises more questions than it answers?

More than one person who have used immigration attorneys have said that they were told to 'bury them' with evidence.

Clearly thre are two schools of thought on this. I am of the opinion that it depends on a factors to which we are not privy, which may include different standards being applied depending on the country of the beneficiary, or just the particular opinion of the person reviewing the case. I suspect a combination of both. I honestly don't see how anything I sent would have sent up any kind of 'red flag'.

I figure if you send them every scrap of evidence you have, it leaves them nothing else to ask for. The fact that Tom had to use a Priority Mail "BOX" to send all of his "evidence" and was approved in less than 30 days, is proof enough for me that it does not 'slow the process down' when you send alot of information to them.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Visa questions

Is there a minnimum amout of time that you must have known your fiancee prior to putting in for the K-1 visa? From what I've read, the only requirement is to have physically met them within 2 years of applying for a visa. I've known her for about 9 months, but only have physically spent 10 days with her. My 2nd question is the K-1 Visa process really faster than the K-3 process? My fiancee and I have been debaiting whether or not I go down to Brazil to marry in-country, apply for the K-3 visa, or put in for a K-1 visa. Thank you

Make sure that you take pictures together and save all of your proof of travel (Airplane tickets, bagage claim tickets, car rental, money exhcange, etc.) every time you travel to Brazil.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPetition Rejection!! Need Help!

I received my package back today saying that the petition had been rejected because of using an outdated I-129F form (I used the example from the K-1 guide, not realizing there was an expiration date on the form). I now notice that the link to I-129F above the K-1 guide is what I should have used. The question I have is this...

They sent my entire package back to me (less staples and paper clips). The check, pictures, evidence and all forms are here. Can I just redo the I-129F form, put it back with the package and send it all back? The reason I wonder is because there is a line of information printed down the right edge of every piece of paper I sent them...it looks like I-129F, the date, and coding of some sort. Also, the check looks good, but simply has their USDHS and CIS stamp across my handwritten "U.S. Department of Homeland Security" on the "pay to" line...everything else on the check is intact.

I am really hoping that I don't have to do everything over again (over 100 pages worth and also the forms with her signature on them)...I just need to know if I can send everything back to them since it has the stamp on the check and the numbers on every piece of paper...Has anyone had experience with this???

Thanks in advance!

Small overlook...but a good lesson to all of us here at VJ. Never Give Up my friend

Hello my Friends!
I have a question: I took a passport picture to apply for my K 1 visa but on this picture I dont show my ears, I have long hair and I just put my hair on the back. Will that be a problem? Do we have to show the ears to send USCIS our I129F?
I am so worried! I already got my NOA 1, but I dont know if they will ask me for REF.
Thank you!

Hi Caty!!

Celia has very long hair (which I very much love!! )...and on her pictures for the visa, she was only showing her ears partially, you can only see the lower part of her ears on the pictures, and we had no problems...so I will pray that you have no problems either :-)

Good luck and Fica Com Deus.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 visa...now adding a child at a later date
My Fiance recieved her P-4 notification in less than2 weeks after sending back the P-3....she inquired at that time if her daughter could still be considered for the visa also. The daughter will be 21 in 1 1/2 months...they told my fiance to bring the daughters required documents to the interview...we realize the age of 21 being the factor here..but the embassy agreed to consider the daughteranyway, being as the interview will occur 1 month before the 21st B-day. However the fiance is worried, that if the daughter is denied at this stage of the process, will it affect the mothers's (my fiance), eligibility. Anybody know??? By the way the NOA2 touch was January 13...so this all happened pretty quickly considering all the delays I had heard of.
